I can't get my scanner (epson expression 10000xl) to show up in my printer and scanner dialog box. It was there initially when I first installed it but now only my printer shows up. I have a scanner icon in the dock but when I press that the printer dialog box pops up - weird! I am on Lion.

You can try installing twain twacker and see if the driver is working properly. You can download twacker from:

If the scanner is working properly with twacker that would mean there are no issues with the scanner drivers.

I just upgraded to a new iMac running OS X 10.8.2 and can't scan from by Brother MHC 7820N. Printer works. I reinstalled the scanner driver but when I try to scan, the scanner doesn't connect to the imac. Image Capture says no scanner connected.

You might try a third party scanner software. Printer manufacturers are terrible about keeping their products updated. I'd recommend VueScan, you can get a trial version here and if it works and you like it you can purchase it.

Cannot install scanner driver for Epson 1650 Perfection

This isn't making sense to me. I was running Snow Leopard on another drive and was using my Epson Perfection 1650 scanner just fine. I bought a 2TB drive and installed Snow Leopard and am booting from that now and my scanner isn't recognized. If I try to open the Epson Scan utility, it just quits before it fully opens. I downloaded the scanner driver from Epson's website again and when I try to install it, the installer quits before it is fully open.
I did a Repair Permissions but that didn't help.
I tried manually copying the Epson Scanner Module folder from my Library on the other drive to the Library on this new drive and that didn't help.
I found a webpage on Apple's site listing scanners that are compatible with Snow Leopard and mine is listed. It claims most drivers are installed with the system. If so, how come my scanner isn't working now? But it did work in Snow Leopard on my other drive. I can boot from the other drive and use the scanner now, but I want to be able to use it from this drive.

I have been able to use OmniPage X in Snow Leopard with only one problem. I think it is because I did not try to instal it. It came across with my auto transfer from earlier software/hard drives. It reads documents but does not scan because I haven't transferred over my old twain files. I understand that the OmniPage twain file may not work in Snow Leopard but there is a freeware twain driver which I haven't tried.
So if you are having problems installing OmniPage on your Intel Mac, try copying over the app, (OS9 style) from an older Mac which has an old OSX system on which OmniPage X successfully installed.
I use VueScan to scan pages from my scanner, save the multiple pages as a pdf, open OmniPage and get it to import the pdf file. Then I do steps 2, 3 and 4 manually (though you could do all steps automatically). The result is much better and incredibly accurate text - much better than in the olden days when I could scan directly into OmniPage. The only things occasionally misread are numbers, particularly fractions.
I am scanning two pages at a time and the VueScan OCR, though it otherwise does a quite accurate job, tends to blend the two pages together, so it is not useful for me. It would be far too slow to scan in each page separately.
It's a shame that Caere sold OmniPage to Scansoft. I remember getting regular messages about improved accuracy upgrades and I'd always buy them. Caere cared. Scansoft does not, even though OmniPage still is the best OCR software for the Mac.
If Scansoft is not interested in upgrading OmniPage for the Mac, maybe it should stop hogging it and sell it to someone who would be interested in looking after its users.

How do I find my scanner driver?

I have a new iMac. I've imported everything from my old Mac using TimeMachine. Every thing is fine except my scanner driver appears to be missing. I have a Canon MG6250. I can print fine but scanner is missing from both "Canon Soloution Menu EX" and from the import options in Photoshop. Can anyone help?

Would any of you know by any chance how to find the download for a Mac OS X scanner driver? my Canon LIDE 600F scanner normally works fine - and i've checked and in principle it should be compatible with the latest Photoshop CS6 trial i've successfully downloaded. i've checked the Apple software update and that's fine too. it's just that when i open my photoshop CS6 and go to File - import - scanner, the scanner is 'missing' - and then when i try every which way, an error flag comes up, stating there's an internal error and cites the scanner driver. it looks as though i need a scanner driver download for Mac OS X 10.6. i've googled this and can't find it .... has anyone else encountered this hitch since downloading the latest Photoshop? previously i had Photoshop CS3 - it's the CS6 version now that i'm trying to work with. Hi - does anyone know how I can still use my old Canon scanner (driver: CanonPI CS-U 3.9X) with CS4? On opening Photoshop CS4 " One or more plug-ins not available on your system" - this is the Canon driver.

How does one install Canon Imageclass mf 4800 scanner driver to imac?

I just purchased a Canon Imageclass 4890 wireless printer for my office. I successfully connected to my wireless network, and I can print from my imac rather new, purchased last year. But for the life of me I can not install the scanner driver, or it just won't take. I spoke with Apple support, but they really could not help me as the problem, apparently, is with the Canon software.
I also run Windows on my mac, and can both print and scan using this OS, although I can not print checks or reports, either in Windows or Mountain Lion.
I replaced my Canon 4680 (which worked fine in all aspects) with this printer because I wanted to free up some desk space and get rid of the USB cable, but this new printer has proved quite a problem so far.

I had the same problem so I called Canon support and they gave me the following instructions:
1. Open the MF Toolbox
2. They will give you the message that "Scanner is unavailable
3. Click the "Scan" button on the device and select "Remote Scan"
4. Click on the "MF ToolBox" next to the Apple on the top left corner of your screen and select "Network Scanner Setting" from the drop down menu
5. Click on the + Button to add a scanner
6. A screen should pop up with your network scanner on it. Select the correct scanner you want to add and close the window.
7. Then click on the "Scanner" tab in the MF Toolbox Mode and you should see your device have been added and start scanning.
These steps worked for me. Hope it helps! Cheers!

How do I install Brother MFC-5840CN scanner driver to eMac OSX?

I've done the installation but the icon doesn't exist to show that the scanner driver was installed. Plus, when I go to open it up from the CD, it asks me to choose an Application to open it. So far, nothing has worked. Do I need to uninstall it however many times I installed it? And/or what am I doing wrong?
The Brother printer is an all-in-one w/photoshop. I feel like I must be skipping a step but instructions are not helpful in troubleshooting this. Any help is greatly appreciated!! And I cannot wait until Monday to call Brother. We need the scanning feature for a school project due Monday.
(And for those of you who offered suggestions to my previous post about which all-in-one printer to buy for an eMac, I thank you very much! For some strange reason, I wasn't notified when your answers came in even though I checked off that box.)

I'm installing the file from the CD that came w/the Brother printer. It seems to successfully install to a Mac OSX but when I try to install and open up the BrotherTwain.pkg, it asks what application to use to open it. There aren't a lot of choices and so far, the 2 I have tried don't seem to work. Still trying to figure out what step I'm missing. I'm normally quite good at these technical issues.

What is the name of the file you are attempting to
install the drivers from? If it is a .exe that only
works on PCs. You would be looking for a .pkg, .app,
or .dmg file. If it there are none, please let us
know what they are.

Epson Expression 1600XL Scanner driver for Windows 8.1

I have an older Epson Expression 1600XL A3 size scanner. There's no driver for Windows 8 and 8.1 Pro. When I turn the scanner on (on USB), Windows tells me that it is an unknown device. I tried to let the scanner software run in various compability
modes and with administrator rights, but that does not Work. It tells me that "Epson scan cannot start" - probably because the content of the twain32 folder is wrong.
I was advised by Epson to get a an Epson Scan Driver package for another scanner that does comply with Windows 8.1.
The software Works, but it cannot find MY scanner on USB, - it looks only for the scanner the software is made for.
I was then advised to go here and find help for making the Scanner software recognise the scanner.
Any suggestions?

You need to discuss this with the Epson Technical Support. Based on information posted on the Epson Support website, the answer is probably "no":

Acrobat 9 tells me that "Either Scanner Driver is Not Installed or Scanner is Not Connected."

I have Acrobat 9 and I get a message saying that "Either Scanner Driver is Not Installed or Scanner is Not Connected" when trying to scan from a document. This happened on two separate scanners with updated drivers. I already tried rebuilding my Acrobat installation to no avail. I'm using Windows XP.

Won't boot after installing scanner driver

I am running Leopard on a MacPro.
I installed a Microtek scanner driver and when it rebooted it just constantly shows the winding gear. It won't go into safe mode, I have tried to use disk warrior and rebuilt the drive, I also tried to do an archival install and it said it cant install... Any other suggestions?

PIXMA MP800 scanner driver error

My Canon PIXMA MP800 was working perfectly until today, when I tried to use the scanner software MP Navigator. Instead of starting up the program, I got this dialog: "The scanner driver supported by this software is not installed. Install it and then retry."
I downloaded all relevant drivers & software from the Canon website, deleted all the old software, restarted and reinstalled, but still I get the same message. The printer works fine, it's only the scanner software that won't start up.
These are the current drivers & software:
ScanGear MP800 12.23.0
MP Navigator 2.1.2
Canon MP800 4.8.3
I wonder if it is the 10.5.7 update that has glitched things, because I haven't scanned since that update. Nor have I installed any other scanner or printer software.
Any ideas?

One thing I noticed after running the 10.5.7 update was that all my USB connected printers were no longer listed in my Printers list. Only the network printers and the Adobe PDF writer were still present. Maybe this has also reset the scanner setup.
I check that the MP800 data source file is still present on your Mac. This will be located in Mac HD > Library > Image Capture > TWAIN Data Sources and will probably be displayed as Canon MP800 Series.ds.
If the file is present then I would check that you can scan via the Image Capture application, located in Applications. This will indicate if the the Mac can still see recognise the MP800 via some other software compared to Navigator. With Image Capture running, you should be able to select Devices and then Browse Devices. The MP800 should appear in the list and when you select it you should be able to scan.
If the above works then you have narrowed down the symptom to it being related to Navigator, although I'm not sure why the update would have stopped it from working. You could try running a repair disk permissions via Disk Utility. This is always a good thing to do after any software install or update.
