Scanner Error Message

I am running an OS X Version 10.9.4 MAC system. I have the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium printer connected through my WiFi network. When trying to scan to PDF from the printer's scanner I get an error message "Scan failed/ Automator could not run the workflow because one or more actions were not loaded."
Going to my System's preferences I find under "Save as PDF" under the Scan Tasks for my printer the following messages:
* The action "Scan from an HP Device" could not be loaded because it is damaged or missing necessary resources. Try reinstalling the action.
* The action "Change Scanned File Type" could not be loaded because it is damaged or missing necessary resources. Try reinstalling the action.
I have already followed "MechPilot"(HP Support Agent" posting on 07-14-2014 and resetted the printing system and uninstalling the software. Then downloaded and installed the HP-Inkjet-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.37.dmg file and non help.
If I scan from the computer, appears to scan ok. :-(

Hi B777Captain,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I understand you are running into some problems with the software for your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium and your Mac running the 10.9 OS. I see you have tried some previous recommendations with no success.
I would like you to continue with the steps listed below:
Scrub/ Uninstall
• Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
• Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
• * Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers. Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
• Click uninstall.
Reset Printing System
1. Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
2. In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
3. Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
5. Type the correct Name and Password.
6. Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol..
Repair Disk Permissions
1.On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
2.Double-click Disk Utility.
3.Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
4.Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
5.Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
Restart the printer. Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. Click on the link below to begin the download and follow the on screen instructions:

I hope I didn't leave anything out. Like I said, easier to tell someone on the phone so I can hear what it is you are looking at on your system so I can walk u thru it  is all.

For some reason, the scanner will not work.   Initially when I click on Autoscan on the PC menu  the message reads that the scanner is warming up.  Then I get an Error Message:  Internal Error Occurred Scanner Driver Will be Closed.  I don' t know what I'm doing wrong all of  a sudden.  There is only one computer in the network, mine, and I'm trying to scan from the 5420 via a USB cable into my HP laptop (Windows 8.1 64 bit).
Copying and printing work fine.  Where do I even start?

    Hi ellenrozsa,
The IJ Network Scanner Selector EX application will need to be running in order for you to scan wirelessly.  If the IJ Network Scanner Selector EX is running, its icon appears in the notification area of the taskbar as shown below:
If the icon is not displayed in the notification area of the taskbar, please click IJ Network Scanner Selector EX on the Start screen.  If IJ Network Scanner Selector EX is not displayed on the Start screen, select the Search charm, then search for "IJ Network Scanner Selector EX".

  • Scanner in use error message. Print and scan doctor page not found

I have an officejet pro 8500a which is giving an error message: scanner in use.  it frequently does this and I reboot computer, turn off router and prnter and then turn all back on again and it usually works.  This time it won't.  I was directed to download the print and scan doctor but whether I enter the address in the url or click on the link I am directed to a page saying that it is not found.  What else can I do besides throw this through the window?

Hello @trishdg and welcome to the HP Forums!
Which operating system is on the computer you use the printer with?
If you make a Copy (as that uses the scanner) do you get any errors that indicate the scanner is in use then?
This Print and Scan Doctor link will start the download for you right away (meaning it doesn't take you to a page, that link starts the download as soon as you click on it ) so you won't feel the need to through anything out the window

  • I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud

I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud option in Acrobat. Kindly help me to sortout this problems?

So I tried generating the same PDFs on two other computers that have Acrobat 9 Pro.  Results were reproduced.  The verdict is:
    - complex PDF files (that is, containing cross-references, tables of contents, and bookmarks) generated by Acrobat 9.x Pro are roughly 2-5x larger than the identical file generated with Acrobat 8.x Pro.
    - different PDF conversion settings make a negligable difference (less than 10% rather than 70-80%).
    - using the "Reduce File Size" or "Optimize PDF" option cuts the file size roughly in half, almost always resulting in a "image downsampling mask" warning message, which requires acknowledgement (that is a problem for batch processing or automation).
    - adding an Acrobat watermark to the file cuts the file size roughly in half.
    - just using Save As to another filename has no effect on file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 with links but no PDF bookmarks still results in the inflated file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 without any links or bookmarks results in approximately the same file size as the Acrobat 8 PDF with full links and bookmarks.
It appears that Acrobat 9's manner of adding links is what's bloating  the files, and in my case it's probably not related to images or image resolution/print quality.  It's a shame, because Acrobat 9 seems to have made some  improvements to the Review Tracker interface, and a few other bells and  whistles which I haven't really gotten around to exporing yet.  But  unless I find a way to keep my links and the PDF file sizes comparable to what I was  getting with Acrobat 8 Pro, it looks like I'm going to stay with Acrobat 8.

  • How do I fix an error message of "failed to open a session on this devices" for my HP photosmart 6510 scanner?

how do I fix an error message of "failed to open a session on this devices" for my HP photosmart 6510 scanner?

    Hello Kwastfamily,
It sounds like you are unable to print from your computer to your printer. I would run through the troubleshooting steps in this article:
Troubleshooting printer issues in OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3147
Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • I get an error message on my Photosmart B210 - "Scanner is busy"

    1. Photosmart B210e printer/scanner
    2. Mac OS 10.6.8
    3. "Scanner is Busy"
    4. No changes to systemr since the last time the scanner worked
    5. When I try to scan from the computer I receive the above error message. When I try to scan directly from the device, it hangs. The only way I can get the device to shut down is to upplug it.

I have this same problem (exact same printer, same OS) and posted question earlier:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Software-Drivers/Help-w-Photsmart-all-in-one-Scanner...
Since then, I have also repaired the disk permisisons, reset the printing system, checked for soft ware updates and uninstalled and reinstalled the HP software package (for like the 6th time).
I have no other computers networked to the printer. There are other internet devices using the router though.
I noticed that there are numerous posts about the "Scanner is busy" messgae, but no solutions. The HP experts seem to offer a suggestion, ask for kudos, then disappear.

I have scanned photos using an Epson V500 scanner set to scan using jpeg format at the highest quality (least compression) setting.  When I try to import the scanned jpegs into iPhoto, I get an error message from iPhoto saying "The file is an unrecognized format."  But if I reduce the quality setting on the Epson scanner to just slightly below highest quality, the images import into iPhoto just fine.  Why won't iPhoto accept jpegs scanned at the highest quality setting?  Wondering?

What scanner format settings dis you use?  Are these color photos? If they are B/W did you scan as grayscale images?  That could be the problem.
Are you able to open them with Preview?  If so do a Save As, select full quality and save as a jpeg with a new file name.  See if that file will import and work as intended.
