Scanner flashing

When in standby my machine scanner LED flashes on the glass platen continuously. I end up turning my unit off when not in use. I bought this unit so I could leave it on and family members could print whenever they wished. Now we need to go to the printer, turn it on then return to it to collect the print.
I don't remember the scanner flashing previously. Is this caused by an in-effective update?

Hello scarbs,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you have some concerns about lights flashing on the printer when in sleep/standby mode.
This is a normal action.  Make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
The printer already has a built in surge protector and if the unit is connected to a power bar/strip, this can cause unusual activity on the printer.
I also suggest that if the issue continues and if you would like to talk directly to HP Total Care, here is the contact information.  If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
Thanks for your time.

  • IPhone is not showing up in iTunes. I've tried just about everything. Please help!

    Everything was working just fine until I updated my iTunes to the latest version (11.1.3).
    I'm using a PC with Windows 7. I have an iPhone 5 and a couple of different iPod. Now all of them wont connect to iTunes.
    I've tried everything, uninstalling, re-installing, all the troubleshooting and tutorials on the apple support online.
    Today I was on the phone for about 30 mins with the apple support staff and we couldn't get it to work.
    My other PC, which also Windows 7 has the newest iTunes installed and all of our iPhones and iPods have no trouble.
    After I install the new iTunes on this PC, my iPhone is apearing in the computer, but will not connect to iTunes.
    iTunes diagnostic will say it is not finding any iPhone or iPod.
    I've even removed all of my antivirus software, tried re-installing an older iTunes version, nothing seems to fix it.
    The apple support staff I talked to said a few other people have had a similar problem and they don't really know how to fix it.
    As far as USB ports, they should all be ok. I've tried other devices (printer, scanner, flash drive) and they are working fine when plugged in.
    It must be something to do with the apple mobile device support....?
    Anyone's help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

    it could be the cord. i have that same issue with my phone and it was the cord. you're not supposed to store the usb cord (or any other electrical cord) in a bunched up manner. anyway, i played around with my cord by bending it in different directions and now the cord works and my phone is recognized again. if all else fails, best to buy a new cord.

  • Premiere cs5 crash.

    Idk if its my Mac or Premiere Cs5. I have the pro master collection. And this only happens with premiere. Every 1 out of 3 times I have it open. For about an hour and Im working. The entire computer crashes.My work is saved because  save often. but Idk know why it dose this please help?

    When people report crashing on the Win side, there are generally 2 reasons
    Software crashes (PPro stops working) due to outdated or corrupt device drivers, especially the graphics adapter (video display) card, so the advice is to go to the vendor (nVidia or ATI or ???) and update drivers
    Some rare PPro crashes have been caused by having a USB device attached... scanner, flash drive, etc
    Hardware crashes (entire computer quits) are due to the computer working HARD for video editing, and a (usually) heat buildup due to lack of cooling or improperly mounted CPU cooling fan
    Both software and hardware crashes are fairly rare
    So... check your computer for updated device drivers and heat

  • Second battery

    hey,
    this is probably a really stupid question but me and my bro are kinda "confused" for lack of a better word. the extra battery that you can buy for your ibook, do you have to install that? or can you just 'plug it' in when your other battery dies? cuz it says that use when "your traveling or for back up or ..." um not sure of the rest, but can it plug into the computer while the original is still there? or what else is the usb ports for? oi
    i'm sooo confused!
    thanks
    iBook g4

    Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
    You cannot carry two batteries onboard the iBook at the same time. If you buy an extra battery in order to have more battery time, you will have to charge them separately while plugged into the adapter or buy an external charger.
    The two USB ports have nothing to do with the battery (or charging it). They are for hooking up peripherals (printer, camera, scanner, flash drive, etc.) to the iBook.
    I hope this makes things a little clearer?

    wqn02h, first thing I would do is use Disk utility to repair permissions. Once this is done. Make sure you have the latest versions of the software you use. Also, check the manufacter of your printer/scanner for updated software. If they don't have updated software there are 3rd party alternatives that will work.

  • Vulnerability Scanner causes Flash Remoting Status Description to return null

    I'm having an issue with Flash Remoting that we have been able to track down as being cause by our vulnerability scanner.  About 2 minutes into the scan process it causes flash remoting to fail and it does not recover until the ColdFusion Application Service is restarted.  What's worse is that I'm not seeing any errors in the log to identify that there is a problem and it's a error the end user is seeing and reporting to notify me of the issue.
    Any thoughts of what might be causing this?  Is there any logging I can enable to help troubleshoot / identify when I have a problem?
    Bellow is a modified snippet of the code we are using to do the call. In alert("Error while calling cfc:" + stat.description); is where we are seeing the error.
      function getCurrentDate()
       mx.managers.CursorManager.setBusyCursor();
       var connection:mx.remoting.Connection = mx.remoting.NetServices.createGatewayConnection("http://#cgi.HTTP_HOST#/flashservices/gateway/");
       var zService:mx.remoting.NetServiceProxy;
       var responseHandler = {};
       var dmLAST_MOD_DATE= dmLAST_MOD_DATE;
       responseHandler.onResult = function( results: Object ):Void
        mx.managers.CursorManager.removeBusyCursor();
        _root.sessionTime = 0;
        _root.realSessionTime = 0;
       responseHandler.onStatus  = function( stat: Object ):Void
        mx.managers.CursorManager.removeBusyCursor();
        alert("Error while calling cfc:" + stat.description);
       zService = connection.getService("X.Y.z_dao", responseHandler);
       zService.getToday();
    I am runnning ColdFusion 11 on Win Server 2012 R2 and IIS 8.5.

    Did you get a resolution to this? I'm having the same
    issue.

  • Can't view flash in Facebook - Anywhere else is fine!

    Okay, so new laptop and, no matter what I do, I can't view flash in Facebook. When I click on the video I get an error saying "Flash Player upgrade required". If I click upgrade I am told by the adobe page that my player is already up to date.
    I can view flash ANYWHERE else, but not in facebook. If a youtube clip is embedded in facebook I get the error message, but if I click through to the video on youtube and view it directly, it works fine.
    I have tried everything. I have tried clearing my cache, deleting the adobe player cache, reinstalling my browser, re-installing flash player. Nothing I do will let me watch flash embedded in facebook. It makes no sense.
    I am running Windows 7 - 64bit. Chrome is my browser, but I have exactly the same issue in any browser. I have disabled my virus scanner (avast) but the problem persists. This seems to be a fairly common problem judging by my google searches, but there never seems to be an answer.
    This is a new laptop, so hardly anything installed.
    Oh, apparently I am running version 10,3,181,22

  • Flash Player Does Not Work with IE8 and Windows XP

    I am using Windows XP VR 5.1 with SP3. Flash Player does not function? So videos will not play that use Flash Player. The Adobe Support Site has been 000 Help because it is a free product. Microsoft says it is an Adobe problem. Finger pointing to the nth degree. I have loaded the latest version of Javascript and Flash Palyer.. Any ideas?

    Resetting IE is a shotgun approach, but may be much easier (and faster) for a user than trying to troubleshoot and find exactly which add-on, control, setting is causing issues. For a fast approach, you can reset IE, then start re-installing the add-ons you wish to use. Here is a kb that describes the process and even provides a Fix it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
    If you’d like to troubleshoot, here are some steps that will fix most issues with Internet Explorer and Add-ons. This can be more of a scalpel approach, and could help you save your cookies, stored passwords, etc.
    1)      Update your Windows software
    a.       Follow the steps below to view updates that are available for your computer.
                                                       i.      Click to go online to the Windows Update website
    1.       Note: If Microsoft Update is not installed, you will be taken to the Windows Update website. See the note below if Microsoft Update is not installed.
                                                     ii.      Click Custom to check for available updates. In the left pane, under Select by Type, click each of the following links to view all available updates:
    1.       High Priority
    2.       Software, Optional
    3.       Hardware, Optional
                                                    iii.      Select the updates you want, click Review and install updates, and then click Install Updates.
    b.      What do I do if Microsoft Update is not installed?
                                                       i.      Follow the steps below to install Microsoft Update and check for updates.
    1.       Click to go online to the Windows Update website
    2.       Click the Go button next to the Get Microsoft Update Today and then click Start Now.
    3.       Review the license agreement, and then click Continue.
    4.       After setup is complete, click Check for Updates.
    5.       Click Custom to check for available updates. In the left pane, under Select by Type, click each of the following links to view all available updates:
    a.       High Priority
    b.      Software, Optional
    c.       Hardware, Optional
    6.       Select the updates you want, click Review and install updates, and then click Install Updates.
    2)      Turn off Internet Explorer add-ons you don't recognize
    a.       When you visit a website, an add-on might be downloaded without your knowledge, or you might be prompted to download an add-on. These add-ons might cause Internet Explorer to run slowly or become unresponsive. You should remove all Internet Explorer add-ons you don't recognize or trust.
    b.      How do I spot malicious add-ons?
                                                       i.      You can usually spot malicious add-ons under the Name column in the Manage Add-ons dialog box. Malicious add-ons might have:
    1.       Blank names.
    2.       Names that include random characters or have a sequence of numbers and letters (for example, fhriduvh.dll or f6rid8vh.exeas as opposed to Windows Messenger).
    3.       A publisher name you might not recognize.
    c.       How do I disable an add-on?
                                                       i.      Open Internet Explorer.
                                                     ii.      Depending on your version of Internet Explorer, do one of the following:
    1.       In Internet Explorer 6, click the Tools menu, and then click Manage Add-ons.
    2.       In Internet Explorer 7, click the Tools menu, point to Manage Add-ons, and then click Enable or Disable Add-ons.
    3.       In Internet Explorer 8, click the Tools menu, click Manage Add-ons, and then click Toolbars and Extension (if necessary). Also note the drop down list labeled “Show:” You are interested in Add-ons and Downloaded
    4.       Follow these steps to determine the version of Internet Explorer you're using:
    a.       Open Internet Explorer.
    b.      Press ALT+H, and then click About Internet Explorer.
    c.       How can I find which version of Internet Explorer I'm using if it won't launch?
                                                                                                                                i.      If you're unable to launch Internet Explorer you can use the following steps to determine the version you're using:
    1.       Click Start, click Run, type %ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer, and then click OK.
    2.       Right-click iexplore, click Properties, and then click Version.
    3.       Under Item name, click File Version. The version number appears under Value to the right of File Version.
    a.       Note:If the file version number begins with 6, you have Internet Explorer 6. If the file version number begins with 7, you have Internet Explorer 7. If the file version number begins with 8, you have Internet Explorer 8.
    d.      If you aren't using the latest version of Internet Explorer, consider updating.
                                                                                                                                i.      How do I update to the latest version of Internet Explorer?
    1.       Click to download and install the latest version of Internet Explorer
                                                                                                                              ii.      How can I update Internet Explorer without launching my web browser?
    1.       Click to go online to the Windows Update website.
    2.       Click Custom to check for available updates.
    3.       In the left pane, under Select by Type, click Software, Optional.
    4.       Select the Internet Explorer update, and then click Review and install updates.
                                                    iii.      Click the name of the add-on.
    1.       Click Disable. You might have to restart Internet Explorer for the changes to take effect.
    2.       Why do some add-ons include (Not verified) in the Publisher column?
    a.       If (Not verified) is displayed in the Publisher column in the Manage Add-ons dialog box, the add-on itself is not digitally signed even though the program that installed it might be. A digital signature verifies that a file comes from the person or publisher it claims to be from, and that no one has tampered with it since it was digitally signed.
    3.       How do I disable an add-on if I can't access Internet Explorer?
    a.       Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    b.      Double-click Internet Options.
    c.       Click the Programs tab, and then click Manage Add-ons.
    d.      Click the name of the add-on you want to disable, and then select Disable.
    e.      When the Add-on Status dialog box appears, click OK to close it.
    3)      Perform a free Full Service Scan using Windows Live OneCare safety scanner (not necessary if you don’t suspect viruses and are confident in the protection you have on your machine).
    a.       Go to the following website, and then click Full Service Scan: Windows Live OneCare safety scanner
                                                       i.      http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=56726
    If you are still experiencing issues, perform these steps. If the issue subsides, you may discontinue the remainder of the steps
    1)      Disable all add-ons (one at a time) until you can no longer reproduce the problem
    a.       Close all Internet Explorer windows.
    b.      Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    c.       Click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Internet Options.
    d.      Click the Programs tab, and then click Manage Add-ons.
    e.      Click the name of the add-on you want to turn off, and then, under Settings, click Disable.
    f.        Click OK.
    g.       Restart Internet Explorer. Continue using Internet Explorer the same way you did when you received a crash report. If Internet Explorer continues to crash after disabling this add-on, continue with the next step.
    h.      Repeat steps b through g for each add-on listed. When you can no longer reproduce the problem, the most recently disabled add-on is the cause of the problem. Once you discover the add-on that is causing the issues, you can uninstall it (use Manufacturer’s uninstaller if one is provided) then if you wish to continue to use the add-on, install the latest version from the manufacturer’s site.

  • How can I stop Firefox from asking me over and over (even on pages with no flash content) to install Flash? I don't want Flash installed and this stupid pop-up.

    So even when I load up websites (like ones we here at my job have created) with very simple HTML and absolutely nothing Flash related, I still get a pop-up asking me to install flash (pops down from the URL bar at left.) How can I stop this without disabling all plug-in updates?
    Moreover, why in the name of all that's good is it asking me about Flash when I have no pages open with anything remotely Flash like on them?
    Thanks to anyone who can answer.

    I do not see why this should happen because of Firefox. Maybe you have some sort of adware on your system.
    Please attach a screenshot of the popup

    Try Firefoxin safe mode to rule out your standard extensions. if that does not solve the problem then scan for malware with multiple and up-to-date tools.
    Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • Shockwave Flash may be busy... BLAH BLAH BLAH... HOW can I fix this?

    I am SOOOOOO sick of this issue.  I have posted asking for help,  advice and etc... in many different sites including THIS ONE, and no one  seems to know how to fix this. For about the last month or so, I have  had a problem with my adobe flash, or shockwave flash or what ever the  hell you want to call it. I say this last part because I have been told  they are the same, and I have been told they are different. Here is a  screen shot of the damn pop up box I keep getting, it also shows how I  am also often told that I need to install adobe flash to view something  even though I DO have it installed already.
    The  issue: It seems like every couple of mins at times, my browser will  freeze, then after a few seconds to mins, I get the above shown pop up  box about my unresponsive plugin. Usually when I click the continue  button, after a few mins the page continues to work. This usually only  lasts a few mins before it freezes again and I get the pop up box AGAIN.  Sometimes it stays unfrozen for a while, and I have no issues but this  is very rare.  Now if I click the stop plugin option, this usually makes  adobe flash crash altogether, and I have to refresh everything.  Sometimes my page does not unfreeze at all, even after clicking the  continue button, my browser does not unfreeze, and I have to open my  task manager, and shut it all down manually. As for the other issue,  where I am told I have to download adobe flash to view something, this  does not happen EVERY time I try viewing something, but it does happen, I  would say maybe 2-8 times out of 10 it happens. It has happened while  trying to view videos, commercials I get while playing games sometimes,  or many other things, I am saying this because I want to make sure you  understand it is NOT just when I am on facebook or something, I just  happened to take the screenshot above while on FB when it happened this  most recent time to make this post here with.
    Ok  so I have tried a LOT of things to fix this. I more then once tried  uninstalling and then reinstalling adobe flash, I did so following the  instructions for a CLEAN INSTALL as I was directed by someone else to  try. In case the issue was something to do with my anti virus, or fire  wall or etc... I have also tried uninstalling, then reinstalling while  my windows firewall was turned OFF, as well as my anti virus turned off.  I have tried uninstalling my browsers as well, then reinstalling them  AFTER reinstalling adobe.
    According  to the flash checker thing on the adobe site itself, I DO have the most  current version installed, I also checked the page to see if it was  supposed to be working properly, and according to your site it said my  adobe flash WAS working fine, the images and etc... displayed fine. All  of my browsers and etc... are also ALL up to date. I have made sure that  ALL of my adobe products are up to date, the reader, active x,  shockwave, etc...
    I  have tried everything and yet I still keep getting this message box,  and often enough I get the message saying adobe needs to be installed to  view something. I had not installed anything, nor had I made any  changes to my comp or system prior to this problem starting, though if I  am not mistaken, I think I HAD just upgraded to the newest version OF  adobe at the time, this was over a month ago now...
    I  also want to add, so that I don't start getting suggestions to do so...  I do not have a virus on my comp. I have checked and rechecked my  system using a few different programs like windows defender,  malwarebytes, my anti virus Avast!, Spybot Search & Destroy,  Microsoft Safety Scanner and possibly other ones as well, and none of  them have ever found any malware, adware, or viruses.
    As  for my system and info: I mostly use firefox (yes most recent version),  however recently I did download and try using Google Chrome in order to  find out if this was a firefox issue or something, as someone suggested  once. I encountered the SAME pop up box, and message while using Google  Chrome, as well as while using IE, which tells me even more this is not  a "browser" problem, but more an adobe/shockwave/flash or whatever  problem. I have windows 7 home premium on my comp, it is the 64-bit  operating system.

    The  site will NOT let me post in the  "flash player" forum. When I open the  list of forums to post in, I see  flash player listed, but it is grey  in color and you can not click on  it. Under the scroll box that gives  you the choices of forums to post  your question in you see this:
    "Why are some locations grayed out?                                                This means that you can view content in these locations, but may not   have access to post to them. Or, the content type you've chosen is not   available there (i.e. trying to put a blog post in a project where  blogs  are turned off). Also to move content to "Your documents",  "Private  discussions" or "Your Videos" you have to be the author."
    So   tell me HOW the hell am I supposed to post in that forum, when it is   not letting me?  I have had   this problem since back in April, I have tried posting to get help and   all I get is complaints I posted in the wrong place, and it is the SITE   that is not letting me post in the right place.

  • When I click on Firefox, it won't open... the icon flashes as if opening but no browser window opens. It also does not appear in the task manager

    I click on the icon and it flashes as if opening.... no browser window appears.... I check the task manager to see if it is open but not displayed... nothing in the task manager..
    So I uninstalled it leaving my preferences, and reinstalled it but it does the same thing. This time when I went to uninstall it again wiping the preferences away (in case it is those that is causing the problem) the uninstall program said that I had to close firefox first... but it isn't showing up as open in the task manager....
    Final though... the last few weeks I have had a page pop up to advertise a need to update this or that, a need to click on this or that... obviously some kind of bug/virus.... help me get firefox going again...
    On Windows 7 platform

    Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
    Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br>
    Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br>
    All these programs have free versions.
    Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

  • How can I get applications to detect a network scanner?

    Running 27" iMac with OS-X 10.7.2, all Software Updates are installed.
    Epson Workforce 630 attached via ethernet network. Driver is current at 8.61.
    System Preferences>Print and Fax lists the printer and has a tab for the scanner. Scanning via this interface works fine.
    Preview will detect and scan without problem, but Image Capture does not detect the scanners. Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and Pro X do not detect my network scanners. Adobe support is no help. No problems with Apple products appear to be theirs, ever.
    Epson drivers according to their website are installed through Software Update -- current.
    But Acrobat will not detect the Epson over the network.
    Note that my wife's iMac OSX 10.6.8 has the same problem.
    Anybody got a clue?
    Thanks!

    You may be paying extra but what speed are you actually getting? Open Activity Monitor, click the Network button at the bottom and watch the Data received/sec speed while you're downloading different things. That will give you the actual transfer rate, not the advertised transfer rate.
    Something like Adobe Flash shouldn't take long because it's only about 18 MB; how big is something that seems to lag? Is your internet connection wireless or are you using an Ethernet connection with a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adaptor? Wired is almost always faster. And with Mavericks being over 5 GB, it'll take a while under the best of circumstances, especially since the transfers I've observed of it don't run anywhere near what a fast connection is capable of.
