Scanner for Win7+Photosohp CS4 (64bit)

I am thinking of buying a new scanner that suits better with my new toys: new pc w/Window 7 and Photoshop CS4 (64 bit.) What I am going to do is to scan all pics from DPE days. There are hundreds and it takes so much time to finish the project and I do not wish to redo.
Would like to know what are the things I should know before going to stores. Appreciate your help.
I currently have a 7 year old scanner by Epson. I could get a driver for my new pc and I am using it with my old XP pc.

Thank you for your reply. It looks great!
It says that it could scan 35mm negatives and matted slides. What does it mean? Comes out as a picture? Thanks for your help.

  • Help with Premiere Elements 3.0,  won't work with Win7 Home Prem 64bit

Does anybody knows if there's a patch or update for Premiere Elements 3.0 for Win7 Home Premium 64bit?  This software is a little bit old, but works great with my WinXP pro.  When I upgraded to Win7 Home, 64bit, Premiere Elements 3.0 would not work at all.  At first, I thought it was my hardware, but the software just crashed even without any video capture devices connected to my computer.  Any help is appreciated.
      Thanks!

Well, there's no guarantee version 3 will work on Windows 7 at all -- let alone the 64-bit version.
Have you installed the 3.02 patch for the software? That makes it Vista compatible -- and if anything will make it work, that will.
Otherwise -- and assuming you've got the latest firmware for your video card and the latest version of Quicktime -- if it doesn't work for you, it simply may not. Sorry.

  • Win7 Ultimate 64bit: PS CS4 64bit does not start

    Hello,
on a fresh Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit I recently installed the whole CS4 Production Premium.
PS CS4 starts properly but PS CS4 64bit only starts the License Agreement, when I hit 'I agree', the window disappears and nothing happens.
    Can anyone help, please?
    Thanks!

Go into msconfig, startup, and look for a check mark in Adobe CS4 service manager. I don't have the package you have I just have CS4 extended and it is there. This has to be checked in order for Flexnet copy protection to run.
Go to services and look for 2 FLEXnet Licensing Service. One will say 64 for 64 bit and the other won't (32 Bit). ensure both are set to Manual. If the 64 bit is not manual right click on the startup type, Choose properties, then change to manual using the drop down window. If it is manual do just what I said but this time just start the service and close out. Now try to start the 64 bit CS4.

  • IS CS3 Production Premium incompatible with Win7 Home Premium 64bit?

I installed CS3 on my new machine with Windows7 Home Premium 64bit on it and it appeared to install correctly.
So when I click the photoshop.exe file it opens a window and freezes.... (not responding) I have sat for an extended amount of time and nothing ever happens beyond that.
If I use after effects or illustrator or flash... nothing happens at all... no windows... however If I open up my task manager, I can see the processes running for those programs... just no applications...
I have run as admin and in WinXP SP2 mode.
    Disabled DEP and UAC.
    Updated everything in the book.
    I dont' get it...
So I am starting to wonder if it just isn't compatible with Win7.
Can anyone shed any light on the subject or direct me to anything that could help out?

I have personally tested apps that were configured for 32 bit OS from XP on and they work fine in all 64 bit OS including Win7...as 32 bit programs.
    Hudechrome,
Can you clarify on CS4 running in Windows 7? My employeer is upgrading to 64-Bit Windows 7 Ultimate (new laptop w/8 GB ram). I can re-install with XP if I really want to.
For Win7 Ultimate, do I just run the 32-bit PS CS4 app for best results or is there something special I need to do?
    Thanks!
Please read what I said, excerpted here:
"...and they work fine in all 64 bit OS including Win7...as 32 bit programs."
Now Dec9 has some further notes above which should work fine. Personally, I will change everything when CS5 arrives. Hardware, OS and programs. Since I am still running CS3 (which should also run on Win7 at 32 bits) I am in no hurry to upset a rather well oiled editing system. Yesterday, I did upgrades to my hardware, adding an additional 1TB drive. I needed extra sata connections so I added a PCI sata card, blew out the dust bunnies, installed the HD and the damn thing wouldn't even post!
    It runs now.
    Wouldn't dare not !!

  • CS4 64bit running on

Has anyone running Win7 64bit and CS4 64bit .. we are evaluating this on a 64bit quad core processer running 4gig RAM.
Before we go down this path we'd like to know if others have run this .. what have they discovered etc ...

    Jen,
We use VMWare ESX/Sphere for virtualization and that works great, but only for relatively light tasks, like a print server, a file server, an Exchange server, a test server etc. and the main benefit is the easy system admin. For PR however, one needs all the resources one can get, so from that perspective running it in a virtual machine will be taxing it to the max, while your new system only has mediocre specs to start with. Only quad core and only 4 GB memory.
Such a system will be slow with AVCHD material to start with, the encoding you need to do will take lots of time, you may not have a decent video card (servers often skimp on video cards and use integrated graphics, since there is no need for them in a server), which further reduces performance, you need to have full administrative rights to avoid problems and it means in fact that your server will be down during editing sessions. Not ideal I think.
Hence my suggestion to look at a new system in my previous reply. Keep in mind that the budget model is intended for DV/HDV use, the economical model for AVCHD use and the warrior model for everything up to and including Red 4K.

It seems when i do something simple as typing text, it'll stop working and give me a "Adobe Photoshop suddenly stop working". My CS4 32bit version seems to working fine with whatever i'm working on. I'm running a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit Ultimate on a new computer Intel quad core with 4gig of ram if that helps. Sorry if this have been asked before but i couldn't find anything on these forums. Thanks in advance.

i deleted the prefs file and now i can open photoshop. but it seems as if it crashes if i open ANY file with ANY text, no matter what the font is.

  • Bridge CS4 only opens PS CS4 64bit -- How to change to 32 bit?

Opening a RAW file in Bridge CS4 automatically opens Photoshop CS4-64bit (via Camera RAW). Is there any way to have it automatically open the 32-bit version instead?

I'd like the option to choose EITHER the 32-bit OR the 64-bit version for RAW or for JPGs. It is not obvious how to do this.

  • Need 64 bit test for Win7/Vista

I develop application which is required to be 64 bit and it hosts IWebBrowser - so   is also 64 bit.
when I load html page to this control which contains flash, of cause I get problems, as there is no flash 64 bit activex.
There is, however one solution I could see to- use test version of Flash. For linux it exists ( and for about a year already ).
The question is. If there would be not a release, but a test version of Flash 64 bit for Win7/Vista in near future?
And if yes - what are estimation for time frames?

    Hi
The Satellite P300 seems to be a new series at the moment therefore I think that this could be the reason why you cannot find the 64bit drivers on the Toshiba page
But dont worry buddy Im sure that Toshiba will release the 64bit driver in the next time I remember well that the 64bit drivers for the other series were released a little bit later too.
    Just for note;
Some series were equiupped with the same hardware devices. SO maybe you could check some single drivers from different notebook series

  • Installing CS4 64bit in Windows 7 to a custom drive letter

    Hi all,
Currently a CS3 user on XP SP3 but wanting to retire my old computer and build a new i7 machine running on Windows 7 64bit and will upgrade to CS4 so I can run 64bit mode and take advantage of GPU features plus more than 4gigs of memory!
Downloaded the CS4 trial to take a look at the program and specifically the detailed install instructions and was shocked to read that CS4 64bit can only be installed on the default (C:\) drive???  Is this really so?
I had planned to use one of the new superfast Solid State drives of around 80Gb capacity to run Win 7 only, no programs on C:\ just Win 7.  I currently use this method in my XP machine with a C:\ drive just for the O/S and a P:\ drive for programs and of course a dedicated scratch disk.
Why is CS4 64bit the only program I can see (from my list of stuff I'll need) to insist on being installed with the O/S?  Is there any way round this? I need to get this sorted in my own mind beofre ordering the various HDDs to make the new machine as I may have to revert to a 500Gb C:\ drive if this is the case.
Thanks for any help you can give this 64bit virgin lol
    Dave

    Thanks for the replies guys,
Mylenium,  I'm going to play Mr Dense here for a post   You are saying this was no different for CS3 etc?  I'm on CS3 (32bit) and it's installed on my P:\ drive but I recognise there are parts of CS3 also on C:\.  You're saying this is no different for CS4 64bit?
i.e. I could install the main program on P:\ and have the shared stuff on C:\ - i.e. situation normal?  I don't have to have it all on C:\ ?
Zeno, call me a wuss but I learnt early on with Windows to keep stuff apart!  My last two PCs had multiple drives and I like to keep the O/S on it's own drive in case I need to reinstall/repair etc.  I left One dirve does it all behind a few years back and a multi drive approach has served me well.
Hudechrome, thanks for that link - heavy going!  I'll have a good read.  I don't want to jump into something with issues, I'm just trying (aren't we all!) to put together the components that will make PS run as fast and efficient as it can.
    Thanks all

  • CS4 64bit Bridge slideshow will not end with ESC key

I have just installed CS4 64bit on a new computer with Windows 7 64bit. I've done the update so now Bridge sees the CR2 files from my Canon 5D MkII but when I go into slideshow...which I use extensively for quickly reviewing images, I cannnot end the slideshow with the normal ESC key stroke... Which really kills the utility of slideshow. Any suggestions as to getting this to work or other ways to close slideshow? Now the only option is to croll through all the images in the folder at which point slideshow will close.

I can't help that Adobe gave me a download of 64bit CS4...but that is what they did...so obviously they have a 64bit version of CS4.
Sorry, as a Mac user PSCS 5 was the first version in 64 bit, PSCS4 was only 64 bit for Windows, However, like Curt stated, Bridge CS6 is the first 64 bit version for both platforms.
But, your suggestion to check the function of the ESC key in other applications was dead on...It does not work, so Windows 7 needs a bug fix.
Or your keyboard itself needs a spring clean...

  • What's hardware should upgrade for Using Premiere CS4 to editing (AVCHD)m2ts file?

What's hardware or software should upgrade for Using Premiere CS4 to editing (AVCHD)m2ts file?
1st question: when i try to do editing by using Premiere CS4 AVCHD sequence timeline, the edting monitor seems not smooth (like wearing goggles) & delay, and when i use AME to encode m2ts file (which not yet edit) to AVI file (about 1 hour), it take 2h 13min to finish, is it normal?
2nd question: i use mpeg2 HD 1440 file to do eding, the edting monitor also not very smooth but better than using m2ts file, after editing done, i try to encode these mpeg2 HD 1440 file (which edited about long 1 hr) to a New file mpeg2 1440 X 1080i HQ or even mpeg2 Pal DV HQ file, the encoding was not runthe encoding after wait for half an hour. How many hours it take usually????
3rd question: i use m2ts file video file to export as a Bitmap, 1 frame 1 picture bitmap, it take long time too, about 1 or 2min to finish encoding, if i export more than 1 picture, it take even more time, i have experienced it, 3 or 4 pictures need about 10 or 15 min to finish encoding. i used to using mpeg2 HD 1440 file (which edited file) to export frame as picture, it not run the encoding at all. WHY ????
i'm new in Premiere CS4,so i got many question about Premiere CS4, usually i use Premiere Pro 1.5 version
my computer is: Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU
                             E7400 @ 2.80 GHz
                             2.80 GHz, 2.00 GB RAM
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon X1650 series
2 Hard Disks in my computer (C Drive is 300 GB (not sata) , D Drive is 500 GB sata)
    4th Question: Premiere CS5 & Premiere CS4 which one is better ???
5th Question: What's different ATI Radeon and NVIDIA Card, which is better, which u suggest to. What is different Graphic Card and Video Card ?? Should i install HD Video Card ????

I don't think a core-2 will work very well with AVCHD... you need at least an Intel i7 920... or whatever is current
My CS5/AVCHD 1st Impressions http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0 includes a link to the computer I built... since the GTX 285 is no longer sold, I would now go with a GTX 460 or whatever is the current "best bang for the buck" - AND I would buy 4Gig-by-3Sticks memory to be able to expand from 12Gig to 24Gig if needed
For my home hobbyist, family movies (which means that I am not trying to recreate Star Wars with video effects or many layers) AVCHD editing is "as smooth as spreading warm butter on hot toast" (also the MP4 video from wife's Flip camera)

I am new in the world of photoshop plugins. I am using adobe photoshop CS4 64bit environment.
    I have converted a 32bit plugin into a 64bit plugin. I have succesfully loaded the plugin .
Now my problem is when i click on the pluginName from the menu list, my plugin dialog is not visible. I am using DialogBoxParam API to show the
dialog within the  "DoUI" method but this API(DialogBoxParam) is returning an error value. I have used the GetLastError and got the below mentioned
    error:
Error 1813: The specified resource type can not be found in the image file.
The 32bit plugin is running succesfully with this dialog resource. I am using the same .rc file which i am using in 32 bit plugin.
Please help me, it is very urgent for me..
Thanks in advance.. Any type of help is highly appreciated. If anybody has any problem in understanding my problem please revert me back i will try to

    Hi,
I think i have not described my problem well..
I'll try it again to make it more clear..
I have a 32 bit filter plugin, which is running successfully on Photoshop CS4 32-bit environment. Now i want my plugin to be run on CS4 64bit environment as well. When i tried to run my plugin in the 64-bit environment with all the 64-bit settings which are required, my plugin is not loaded succesfully. Then i used a sample 64-bit plugin(Dissolve) and put my plugin code inside dissolve plugins code. Changed the dissolve.r file with my plugin .r file and dissolve.rc file with my plugin .rc file. Now my plugin is loading succesfully but when i click the plugin from filter menu list, my plugin dialog is not shown. I  do not understand why is it happening? Plz provide some information.

  • Where can I get Photoshop CS4 64bit?

I've seen a lot of people talking about Photoshop CS4 64bit native code, but I can't figure out where to get it.
I'm currently using Windows XP, but plan to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional 64bit in a week or two.  I'm going to reload all my programs from scratch and would like to start with the 64bit version of Photoshop CS4.

  • Cs4 64bit scratch disk

I am trying to determine if a dedicated scratch disk is still needed if using win7 and cs4 64 bit version. My work involves mostly 2D design, but some images can be quite large. The following statements seem to indicate that if you have enough ram then the scratch disk will not be used. If this is the case, then would a single SSD be viable?
I have been able to find some info regarding this but no definate answer. In kb404439 it states
Using 64-bit Photoshop. If you use files large enough to need more than
4 GB of RAM, and you have enough RAM, all the processing you perform on
your large images can be done in RAM, instead of swapping out to the
    hard disk.
This article was in reference to CS2- Document 320005
Each history state that includes an operation that affects the entire
image (for example, when you apply Gaussian blur or unsharp mask to the
entire image) creates a full copy of your image at its original size.
If your initial image is 500 KB, and you apply Gaussian blur to it,
your image will need 1 MB of scratch space

This is just me thinking and adding my 2 cents worth. SSD will not have a spinning disk with read/write heads trying to write to a scratch disk and virtual memory at the same time. The reason a second internal hard drive is recommended is to give the scratch disk its own hard drive thus its own read/write heads. SSD does not care about all that. As long as a SSD is purchased with TRIM then I would see no need for a seperate SSD drive. Now in the real world would a second internal SSD drive, dedicated to the scratch disk, speed things up (would be interesting to see if true)? I have seen no tests done on that. But even with enough RAM the check box for Scratch Disk still will be checked no matter what by software default even if a SSD is used.
