I thought I would just plug in scanner & what a surprise it does not work again lol

got sbfw.usb in /usr/share/sane/gt68xx off of Scanner CD
Is there a way of testing if udev has picked up scanner?

put SBfw.usb in /usr/share/sane/gt68xx
edit /etc/sane.d/gt68xx.conf remove '#' from line....
override "mustek-scanexpress-1200-ub-plus"
errr does state you should not need to do that but it works now

The scanner function is available through the bundled software that comes with the printer. Since you have Windows 8, you probably needed to download the drivers from our website. You can download the scanning software, MP Navigator, from our website. I will include instructions to download below.
Please perform the following to download the software from our website:
1. Visit Canon's web site at:
http://www.canontechsupport.com
2. Click on SUPPORT & DRIVERS. On the Support & Drivers page, select your model in the following manner:
a. From the first menu, select PRINTERS & MULTIFUNCTIONS.
b. From the second menu, select PIXMA MX SERIES.
c. From the third menu, click DRIVERS & SOFTWARE beside the PIXMA MX420.
3. Select Windows using the drop down menu SELECT OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION, then select your version of Windows 8 using the SELECT OS VERSION drop down box.
4. Click SOFTWARE.
5. Click on MP Navigator EX.
6. Instructions for completing the download and installation will appear on the page that follows. You will also see a disclaimer at the bottom. Review the disclaimer, and click I AGREE - BEGIN DOWNLOAD.
7. Once the download is complete, double click on the downloaded file to start the installation. Follow the onscreen instructions to install. -
I am using win vista and have installed itunes for my ipod shuffle four years back. now I have purchased iphone 4, and trying to reinstall itunes after uninstalling my earlier itunes i always get a message that error in installation. kindly help

It has the error range of 3000's which states

This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an old version of iTunes is installed, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see error 1004 above), or because of your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again. Error 3194 most likely indicates you do not have the latest version of iTunes installed Update to the latest version of iTunes. -

To reinstall iCal:
1. Insert the Snow Leopard Installation disk into the computer.
2. The disk will appear on the desktop.
3. Double click on the "Optional Installs" folder.
4. Double click on the "Optional Installs.mpkg."
5. Click on (Continue) in Introduction.
6. Click on (Continue) in Software License Agreement.
7. Click on (Agree) to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
8. Click on the disclosure arrow ▶ next to Applications.
9. Select (✓) iCal.
10. Click (Continue).
11. After iCal has been reinstalled, download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to bring iCal up to the most recent version. -

I moved Illustrator app from its org. fold. then put it back. now my swatches wont load.
As you found out moving Illustrator can cause the program to fail. Putting the app back sshouldhoudl have returned you to normal. The default swatches come from which New Doc Profile you choose
We need more detail on which swatches you are suggesting, the deafults or color books? If you did not edit your new documetn profiles, then when you create a new document you should have swatches. Check if you have Show all swatches set. -

is to turn off wifi when you do not need it. When I leave the house I turn off wifi, because the majority of the times when my iPhone has got very hot and crashed is when I am away from home. I suspect that if the iPhone is in the vicinity of public wifi (wheather secure or not secure) it will try and connect, even if you have 'automatically join known networks' set to off. This is easy of course if you have an unlimited data contract for your iPhone. I may be wrong, but it is working for me. It makes sense for me because it is another way of reducing the work the processor (and battery) has to do and therefore reduces the chance of overheating.
Having said that, I never had this problem with my iPhone 4. I now have a 4S.

hi, i had recently formatted my iphone with no itunes backup. i restored my data with icloud but all the pics didn'y come back. now when i tried to restore again, icloud deleted all my pics from the server too!! is there any way i can get them back??

You choose to not copy them off to a computer as they are designed to be.
If they are no longer showing in iCloud, they are gone. -

I'm having the opposite problem. The shortcuts comes up on the home screen, but the Contact Bar doesn't work. After installing the lastest firmware (and even reinstalling it, to try again), the number pad would no longer come up. If we pushed the number pad icon, nothing happened, just the vibration. I thought the phone was broke! Aside from the number pad not being accessible, the Contacts bar no longer had the add contacts button and the one and only contact that was added (with photo) was no longer there. It just became 4 blank squares, without the ability to add anything do them. (it's still like that, if we select Contacts Bar for the home screen) My wife, through the settings menu, figured out how to get the keypad to work, but the Contacts Bar no longer functions. However, the shortcuts bar does work. I tried the *#7780# thing, and after having the settings be reset and the phone restart, it went back to no accessible number pad! I don't know why it's doing this, but it's a bit of a bummer to have a 1-day-old phone that's not fuctioning properly. Anyway, the phone is working, but it would be nice to have the "factory settings" be a state where you can actually dial a number, and it would also be nice to have a working contact bar. Any ideas, folks?
Perhaps, if there is another firmware update, in the future, the problem will somehow be fixed. -

Just had my mac mini's superdrive replaced by Apple, I have it back now and the top get so hot you cant touch it, I installed fancontrol and it climbs to 100 C but dont think the fan is running as it says 000rpm?
Have you spoken to whoever replaced the superdrive? Why not take it back there?

For christmas I got an upgrade from 3g to 5 on my phone. I also got put on the cloud, though that doesn't seem to be working just like a LOT of things don't seem to be working, (like my password mysteriously not working and spending an hour at the store resetting it) but that's neither here nor there. I never really liked the game center so I dealt with it directly as little as possible, but when trying to get back to my app games (specifically Plan X) the game center DEMANDED I pick a new nickname. My old one, which is also my apple ID was not good enough now, but with a new user ID came a completely new ID on my games and a loss of all my stats.
Then I tried restoring from backup, and joy of joys I had a new, terrible, hard-to-remember username (because ten million billion good ones have all be taken already, including my old username that was somehow unacceptable and was now "in use," figure that out) with my old save games.

If for some reason you have failed to backup, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod/iphone/ipad. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
