Ok this is my first go around at this. But here is the deal. I am buying a scanner. All I want to do is this - scan word docs and other things to fax to other people, and I have a bunch of 4x6 photos from the 90's that I want to scan into iphoto. Maybe I'll print them out someday, but for the most part I just want to put them into a digital lib. I got talked into buying a cannon 600F, with a 4800 dpi. My question is this - why would a person doing what I want to do need anything more thena simple 1200 dpi printer? I understand that you don't even print more then 300 dpi. Question if i return this and buy the lide25 which is 1200 dpi will i be ok?
Why would a normal, typical person need to buy a more higher end scanner? Is there a need. Give me some advice, I need to make the return/exchange tomrrow.

1200 dpi will be fine for scanning text. For photos, the higher the dpi the more accurate the scan, but also the slower. Frankly, I do most of my photo scanning at low dpi because I am scanning to save photos for email. However, if you have high quality photos that you may wish to enlarge or crop, then higher dpi will provide better quality.

Need help choosing a printer/scanner - any help appreciated!

I have a Pixma MP560 printer and a Canoscan 9950F scanner. My printer is having issues and was told by support need to replace it. My Canoscan 9950F scanner hasn't been used in years (hardly ever used before either) but it is no longer supported and doesn't work with Yosemite (no updated available). I want to scan hundreds of photos from my photo albums (and also have a good printer). What is the best all-in-one printer/scanner to do this? I want good quality scans on my photos and am not sure what resolution I need (was told should scan at 300 DPI - is that right?) - the quality of these photos is important in case I would want to print them out in the future, etc. Can I get by with an all-in-one printer/scanner or am I best off going with a cheaper printer and getting another canoscan? The ink cartridges for the MP560 are relatively expensive also - and found that cheaper refilled cartridges cause harm to the printer. What is my best options for this set-up without costing an arm and leg for print cartridges, etc. Thanks in advance for any and all opinions/help and feel free to ask any other questions - Oh, I use a Macintosh computer also.

Hello. The most comparable replacement to the MP560 would be the PIXMA MG6620. This unit will be able to perform high quality photo printouts, document printouts and also perform scans. How do I get rid of ALOT and Windows Scanner? Help me Please or tell me what to do:)

The Windows Scanner thing sounds like Malware on your PC that is indicating a fake scan is being performed, and then offers to sell you something to fix it, when all it will do is install more Malware, that is even harder to remove.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. '''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware.)''''' They are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.

My macbook pro won't recognise HP C4480 scanner. Help please.

My new macbook pro won't accept my scanner. I have a C4480 photosmart printer and it will print from my macbook but when i try to scan, it says unknown error. I have installed from HP CD and from HP website but makes no difference. Help please. Thank you.

I also have this problem. My MacBook alays has trouble recognizing HP printers and scanners and I allways have to restart programs and reboot the laptop in order to scan with HP scanners.
However with the C4480 it just does not work it doesn't seem to matter how many times I reboot.
HP Products suck on the Mac. And tech support doesn't seem to have any answers.

Mac Mini using OS X Tiger does not see my HP Scanjet 4670 scanner! HELP!!!!

I have an HP Scanjet 4670 scanner which worked fine on my pervious mac which was an emac with OS X Panther.
However, I now own a G4 Mac Mini running with OS X Tiger and recenly tried to use my scanner with it for the first time only to get the message: "scanner not found" I then went straight to my System Profiler to look at the USB Device Tree and was shocked to see that all my USB devices show up EXCEPT my scanner!
Mechanically, the scanner appears fine (even when I run its 'Hardware Test') but no matter what I do I cant get the Mac to 'see' it. I have reinstalled the HP scanner software old AND new, but to no avail. Although, I'm sure that even with NO HP software on my Mac, the System Profiler should still be detecting a USB device on its tree.
Just out of curiosty I connected my scanner to my old emac (my girlfriend has had it for a few months now) and it has the same problems there too!! WEIRD OR WHAT? The emac is STILL running on Panther - although during the months AFTER I gave it to my GF there has been some minor OSX Panther upgrades installed.
Is it just coincidental bad luck that my scanner became faulty when I changed mac and operating systems? Or is there an OS X Tiger problem lurking somwhere here?
PLEASE PLEASE can someone offer suggestions!!!!????? It is a lovely looking, decent scanner which was not cheap to buy and is only under 2 years old!!!

Looks like you're using software for this scanner that was for Panther only.
Try downloading HP's version of the scanner's software for Tiger.

And run software update to make sure you're running the latest Tiger update.
If you're already doing this, or it still doesn't work, it could be a damaged USB cable (as your girlfriend Panther system doesn't see it either).

Low Res to High Res Help!!!

I need some advise. I have still jpegs and tiffs that I need to convert up from a low resolution, without pixelating the picture (Low resolution to High Resolution. I own Adobe CS3(the suite)which include Photoshop. If photoshop is not the answer, please let me know what is. If photoshop is the answer, I can't seem to get the right tool within. Is it even possible? Simply changing the property of the image will make it larger, but very distorted/pixelated.

Youtube's specs can be obtained form the technical advice section of their site. I believe it's MPEG4, which is H.264. But you must not confuse the term resolution with image quality. Whatever you upload to to YT gets transcoded by their system before it gets mounted. There are hundreds of sites devoted to getting the best image up on YT, google is your buddy on that one. there are several places in the workflow where you can attempt to maintain image quality. it's tricky, depends on your content. encoding is all about maximizing image quality at various points. Action requires a higher bitrate that can be stolen from scenes that have little detail.
It's really hard to get good encoded video, especially up on YT.

Epson 836XL Scanner compatibility - HELP!

My wife's Mirrored Door G4 died on her a few months back and I got her a MacMini. It works great, but had no room for the SCSI card used to drive/connect her oversized Epson 836XL scanner. I tried to find a Mac SCSI to Firewire or SCSI to USB adaptor but none of them had 1) the proper pin configuration and 2) were supposedly only PC compatible.
I pulled the SCSI card out of her old computer and put it in mine. The computer recognizes it in PCI slot 5 as a SCSI Bus Controller so I'm pretty sure it is still working, even though her old computer motherboard was fried. Anyway, I hooked the scanner to my G4, installed the drivers and tried to use it but it the computer just doesn't seem to be seeing it. I know the scanner drivers were supposedly only good up through OSX 10.2.X but I would hope that it would still be usable under 10.3.9.
I even tried using the optional parallel port connector on the back of the scanner and hooking it up with a parallel to USB cable to my Mac but that didn't work either.
I'm about at my wits end. It worked fine on her G4 under 10.2.9. I would hope that it would work on my older computer even though my OS is a later version. It just doesn't seem to be able to be recognized by my computer. A new oversized scanner runs in the $1500 range and that is a bit more than we can spend.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Dave. You know what? I downloaded the trial version and believe it or not it worked! I didn't expect it to as I thought there was a connection issue, but the SCSI interface seems to work with VueScan. I was hoping I'd be able to get it to work with the Photoshop plug-in but I guess that is not to be.
Thanks so much for turning me on to this, you don't know how much time and $$$ you've saved me. It anyone knows if there any current drivers that will get it to work with Photoshop under 10.3.9 or higher, that would be great too.

Acrobat XI won't auto feed from scanner. Help

I recently installed acrobat xi pro and when I try to scan from my computer to create a pdf, it is making me create a pdf one page at a time, instead of the entire document. Is this an Windows 8.1 issue? Is there help for this? JK in Houston

Photoshop scanner problem, help please

My HP Scanjet was importing fine for months. Now when I go to import I get this alert:
"could not complete the import command becuase the disk is full" What does this mean? I can get the scanner to work if select WIA support from Import menu, start the wizzard which then recognizes both of my scanners and I can select it. But I don't want to have to do this everytime, and I never had to do it before. I'm running PhotoShop 7 on Windows XP Professional and the only new change was putting in two TB backup hard drives.

Photoshop 7 is so old that it couldn't handle volumes over 1TB (there were limitations in the Windows APIs at that time).
You can fill the disks so they come under 1 TB, partition them, or upgrade to a newer version of Photoshop.

Scanner Class Help

Hi, in a program I'm writing, I've read a line using the scanner class, and after finding a character that's not a digit (using an if(! Character.isDigit) ), I need to go back to the initial position and read the integer. But, since I've already used Scanner to scan the line, I can't seem to get it to go back without closing the file stream and re-opening it. Is there any way around this?

right, that's what i've done, and then i examine that string until i find a character that's not a digit... so i need to set it as a delimiter (which i know how to do) and then read the integer before it... but i have no idea how many digits the integer before it will have (probably at most 3, but my program's supposed to encompass a large amount of possibilities)

And I don't know of any string methods that will let me read an integer from the string...

I want to import from my scanner ?

Elements 11 will not recognize my scanner the help answer did not resolve the problem. I cannot find where to set scanner preferences.

Also having the same problem - upgraded from 8.0 to 12 and for some reason they've removed the TWAIN interface after about version 9 so now I can only scan in a basic way through a WIA interface.
I also found the advice on the page Barbara refers to - my file structure isn't the same though so it didnt work for me. I would really appreciate some advice if anyone can help. Meantime I'm going back to 8.0 - I can barely see any difference anyway - and it still works faultlessly...

Unfortunately, the AirPort base station's USB port does not support the "advanced" features (scanning, copying, faxing, etc.) of multi-function printers. For the multi-function printers that are supported, they are only supported for printing.
