Scanners

Until recently I used a PC. But have switched to MacBook Pro. I use a high-speed scanner called Documate 252 (Xerox). But Xerox are telling me it is only compatible with PC/Windows. Does anyone know whether there might be a clever Mac solution to getting this scanner to work? Thanks.

According to VueScan, it works with their OS X software: http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/xerox_documate_252.html
FWIW - Xerox supports OS X on their newer model Documate scanners.

  • Scans saving to wrong place! Epson Perfection, V300 and 4990, Canon MP250 scanners and Windows 7

I have a network of 4 computers using Epson Perfection and Canon scanners with a Digitization interface that writes data to MS Access. Ever since we were forced to upgrade to Win7, when we try to scan,
the scanner tries to save files to the wrong drive even though the .ini settings for the program specify a certain path (a shared drive on our main computer) and I've also set the scanners to save to the same path on the shared computer. I work at a university
and the tech guys here are stumped. We've been running the scanners on XP service pack 2 and 3 compatibility and that seems to fix some issues but definitely not others. Our scanning time is much longer now, as if there's a queue we're waiting for and if someone
else is writing to the drive, the second in the queue gets kicked out to their local computer Doc or Desktop folder. Before Win 7 upgrades, we never had this problem. Some computers are brand new, others are a bit older. Any suggestions there??
Eventually we will migrate to an SQL format but until we finish the first phase of our project we're stuck withAccess and this scanning problem.

    Hi,
According to your description, the issue happened after Windows 7 upgrade, so I would suggest you check the driver for the scanner for Windows 7, it's usually better to look for the right verison of drivers in the manufacture website. Meanwhile, update the
scan software or reinstall the software, check the result.

  • MacBook Pro 6,2 Existing scanners do not show up in System Preferences

I have a MacBook Pro 6,2 and I just installed OS X Yosemite. While attached to my home network (wired), neither of my scanners show up when I try to add them in System Preferences. Also, they do not show up in the Hardware list in a System Information report. One is an Epson V600 and the other is an HP ScanJet 5590. Both of them work just fine on my MacPro 4,1 running OS X 10.8.5, although, oddly, the HP doesn't seem to have a scanner queue even though it works just as it should (scanning with Acrobat Pro).
Why are these devices absent from the "add printer or scanner" list and how do I force my MacBook Pro to see them?

    Welcome to the forum.
How did you name your comps and your AE project(s)?  If you used numbers at the beginning or the end, that may be interfering with AE's Increment and Save feature.  Try renaming your comps and projects without using numbers.

  • Problem with attachments and antivirus.scanners

    Hi!
Problem is: Sending any attachment from Tiger (10.4.8) mail, all attachments are removed by a virus scanner at receiving end:
This message was modified by F-Secure Anti-Virus E-Mail Scanning.
Tried Windows friendly, text only, repair permissions, sending under other isp etc. no help.
If this same message with same attachment is send from next mac with Panther, it is received ok.
Receiving company is big and wont alter their virus-scanners and the problem clearly lies in Tiger.
    Any help welcome.

The subject of your message should have been "Problems with attachments and F-Secure antivirus" since this is not a problem with all antivirus software, only with F-Secure.
Check this thread for a possible temporary solution when sending attachments to those who use F-Secure.

  • How to remove SANE from the list of scanners that are shared in Preferences

So I installed SANE for an old scanner, which is now replaced by a new Canon that is supported by native OSX and canon drivers. I therefore uninstalled SANE, the prefpane and all occurrences in the /Library and so on, however it is still being listed as an option in the scanners that can be shared i.e. in System Preferences>Sharing>Scanner sharing.
How do I go about removing this, any hints?
I also have this suspicion that this is the root of major issues I have accessing the scanner on my system some times, since I get "scanner communication errors" quite frequently, which are in turn resolved my plugging my scanner off and back on again...I did reinstall the software and drivers that came with the scanner to no avail.
    Thanks

Hey, I used wonder as well where the information was stored regarding the scanner sharing and I think I found a solution. Here's what I found. Download an application that can edit .plist files, such as Martin Bresink's "Prefedit" or "PlistEdit Pro".
Go to this location: ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost and find the file "com.apple.ImageCaptureExtension2.[xxxxxxxxxxxx].plist" where X's stands for your specific Ethernet/Airport Mac address.
Edit the file using the application mentioned and remove your scanner/device (SANE) from the Devices list (remove the device number, ie. 0 or 1 or 2, etc). Save the file. If unable to save, change permissions to own the file, save it, and reset the permissions.
That removed the shared scanner from my list of scanners in the sharing preference.
    Hope it works.

  • Scanners usable with Fast User Switching

Which mid-range scanner operates with multiple logged users?
Manufacturers seem poorly equipped to answer this, since they test their products with only one user logged in—their support people come up empty-handed.  I work in a small but busy office where fast user switching is considered a basic part of the Mac OS, and I feel that if a product doesn't work with multiple users logged the maker shouldn't be allowed to state, without caveat, that it works with OS X.
We recently tried two scanners and found them lacking: first, the HP Color LaserJet 2840 all-in-one.  After six months of support calls that often involved switching users, HP happened to mention that user switching with any of their scanners is unsupported.  (Good-bye, HP.)  Next, the Epson 4490.  Ditto—zero support.
My intent was to use the 4490 as a replacement for the color laserjet's function as a copier.  We don't want to mess with another multi-function machine, as the makers don't seem to have their act together when it comes to drivers for those.  We miss our color laser, but we can get by with an inkjet.  In the meantime, everyone in the office needs access to a copier, and I see no reason a printer plus a scanner (with its scan-to-printer button) can't be that copier.
Do you know of a scanner that's fully functional, buttons and all, under OS X—that is, ALL of OS X, including fast user switching?
G4 and G5 iMacs   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   FileMaker, Toon Boom Studio

Audio output is squelched when fast user switching. Under Panther, audio playing in one user account would continue to play after fast user switching to another account. Under Tiger, the actual process continues, but the sound is muted.
Same thing goes for audio input. I learned this the hard way by setting up an app to record a two hour radio program through the built-in audio input jack. During the recording I switched to another account for an hour. When I later went to listen to the recording, there was an hour of silence corresponding to the time I was in the other account.
I really wish Apple would fix this.

  • I got my first Mac 2 weeks ago, a Macbook Pro. I can't get it to scan on my HP Laserjet1217 nfwMFP all in one. It prints (wirelessly) just fine. But when I try to scan, it says something like "no scanners available". Wireless or connected, it's the same.

I have not been able to get my new Macbook Pro to scan, either wirelessly or connected, with my HP Laserjet all in one M1217 nfwMFP printer. It prints wirelessly just fine, but if I try to scan, I get the message that no scanners are found. The guy in the Apple store had it scanning just fine with a new HP printer he took out of the box. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would check with HP. Your scanner may need a firmware update and updated HP software. Start here:

  • Mac Pro OSX 10.8.3 HP 4000 series scanners are not detecting.

Well..I think, I did everything. I have followed all instructions recommended by HP. I have updated and installed latest drivers. I have even searched the warez sites to find a trick. Useless, useless and useless.
Hardware is retina display with 256 GB SSD, 1600 mGz  8 GB ram and I7 processor. OSX version is 10.8.3
HP 4000 series scanners are not detecting by this machine. Vuescan is detecting but the scanning quality is also terrible.
Strange. I have nothing to say.

For the Scanjet 4850, follow the link below and click on the instructions tab.  It looks like you have to get the software and drivers for 10.6 and run a patch to make them work with 10.8.  That should get the scanner installed and working.

For the Scanjet G4050, all you should need to do is install the driver from the link below to be able to use the scanner with image capture and other similar products.

  • Avast, clamXAV and MacScan - which is the best of these OSX AV scanners?

Avast, clamXAV and MacScan - which is the best of these OSX anti-virus scanners?
Does anyone have experience of all three?

Ermmm. I think you'll not find anyone here that's got experience of one, let alone all three.
My thoughts on anti-virus for the Mac, is that it can be more hassle than it is worth, given the nature of OSX. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I think the OS is invulnerable, but other than the one lone mock video codec trojan that was out a few years ago, there really isn't much of a need for anti-virus.
    Yet.
The best web security right now for general browsing is Firefox with NoScript and AdBlock Plus and have it set to delete the cache and cookies after each session.
Beyond that, the commonest things vexing Mac OS right now, are 'social engineered' trojans or virii, that the user installs themselves.
If you stick to legitimate download sites, (c-net, versiontracker) you will be fine.

  • Scanners not detected in "Photo downloader" of Adobe Bridge CS6

After fresh install scanners are no longer detected using Photo downloader in Adobe Bridge CS6

Hi Mylenium. I have sorted it out. The camera is a Nikon D5100. The drivers for my USB ports had become corrupted somehow, so I uninstalled the USB ports and rebooted the computer. Windows installed new drivers and it is all good now. If anyone reading this has the same problem try looking under Device Manager and see if there are little exclamation marks beside your USB ports. If so right click on them and uninstall them and then reboot.

  • Are there any scanners that work on a MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.7.5?

I was using a CanoScan Lide 35 scanner on my laptop just fine until a couple of weeks ago and now it is hit and miss with it.  I was looking for a scanner that would be compatible with Mac OS 10.7.5 and I haven't found anything that looks like it works.  I don't have time to read every single Google link that comes up and was hoping that someone here could help me out.  I'm looking for a scanner that is on the low end of the price scale but also good enough to do some graphic work.  I'd appreciate any info I can get.  Thanks!
    Erik

You will fnd that most scanners from the name brands work...I have an Epson Photo scan that works just fine with Mac OS X 10.7.5, 10.8.5, and 10.9.2...but I always use the included Image Capture application, found in Finder > Applications.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 do not recognize my scanners

    I have 3 Canon scanners.
They are all reconised by Photoshop CS4 extended.
Now I bought and installed also Photoshop CS5 Extended.
None of those scanners are recognised by CS5. So I have to scann with CS4, save the picture and then openwith CS5.
    I have Windows VISTA Ultimate
Will you advise me what do do in order to be able to scan directly from CS5?

I'm not being difficult but I don't understand what the problem is or how it takes more time.
    "Sorry.
I did that. It takes much more time than scanning using "Import" from
    Photoshop itself.
It seems to me it was not worthwhile what I paid for Photoshop CS5."
Photoshop is a photo editing program.  It has no influence concerning how fast your scanner scans.  There is no TWAIN for 64 bit, therefore, no IMPORT.  I fail to see how using Canon software directly takes longer.  I scan hundreds of photos.  I have not used IMPORT since I bought PsCS4 and use a Vista64 machine.  It hasn't affected the time required or the quality of the scans one bit.
I believe Photoshop to be worth every cent, as a photo editor.  It's NOT a scanning application and was never intended as such.
I use an Epson scanner.   My routine is to scan (in Epson software) the image and it is saved as a tiff in whatever folder I want it to be in.  I click that file and it opens in Photoshop.  Does not take long at all.
Please explain exactly the process you are using (using Canon software) and how it takes longer.

  • Printers and Scanners preference pane does not work after Mavericks upgrade

I upgraded to Mavericks on my late 2011 MacBook Pro, and my printers and scanners preference pane stopped working. Sometimes it comes back as an error and wont open, other times it opens but the list of printers is obscured and not really showing, and it does not react normally. I tried reinstalling from System Restore with the onlie version, but that just took 6 hours but did not really help. I am going a little crazy as I cant get my Canon MX330 scanner installed and recognized. Does anyone have any ideas for me please??

I'm assuming that you're referring to the Printers & Scanners in System Preferences (not a preference pane, which is a different animal).
While I haven't experienced your issue, one thing that users find helpful is to go to System Preferences/Printers & Scanners/, and delete the printers listed by tapping on - (minus). Then, reenter the information when it's required later.

  • Supported Canon scanners in Windows 7 64 bit

I realise that the Canon N670U scanner is not supported by Canon, but according to the Canon Website, the LiDe 20 scanner is. Up until now, both scanners used the same driver, so it seems strange that one is supported and the other is not. However, though Canon says new drivers will be on the website for the release of Windows 7, none has appeared yet. Can anyone explain this.
As an aside, I can get the scanner to work using Vuescan, but the cost of buying this utility and being tied to the supplier, compared with simply buying a new scanner is not worth it. It does prove, though that a N670U can work in a Windows 7 64 bit environment.

Peter,   I'm running into the same issue as you.  Have to agree with you, this is a great, reliable scanner.  Unfortunately, it does not look like Canon has any plans to support it in Windows 7 32-bit -- let alone Windows 7 64-bit. The below list of supported products is from Canon's website.

  • In Printers and Scanners, how can I change the order of the listed printers?

I have 3 different printers, and they all work fine. I would like to move my "default printer" to the top of the listed printers. How do I do that?

It can be done. You can rename your default printer by adding an underscore in front of its current name, or change its name altogether to be alphabetically first. This will then place it on the top of the printer list.
To rename the printer, open Printers & Scanners, select the desired printer and click the Options & Supplies button. Under the General section you will see the current name. Add an underscore in front of the current name and click the OK button. Now the printer will be at the top of the Printers list.
