Scanning Documents into Records Management

I would like to implement SAP Records management involving the scanning of documents into the RMS. I have the following questions.
1. Can the scanned documents be attached to a record automatically (is it possible that during scanning an event to create a record would be triggered automatically and the person responsible for the scanning will just have to enter the detail)
2. Is there a recommended scanning software that works well with SAP Records management stystem that i can use to scan documents directly into SAP RMS or dpes SAP have a scanning software that works with RMS.

It's really possible. I don't know if any scan software can do it, but "Kofax Capio" can.

Saving Word 2010 Documents into a managed metdata hierarchy

Hi
Can I save a document using Word 2010 into a document library that has a managed metadata hierarchy and the document appear in the correct place in the hierarchy ?
Ideally it would be good if the Word 2010 "Save As" browser would show the managed metadata hierarchy, the user would select a node on the managed metadata hierarchy and the document would be save with the appropriate metadata to place the document
in the correct place in the hierarchy.

So to make the document appear in the correct place in the hierarchy, we are not need to save the Word 2010 Documents into a managed metdata hierarchy.

Customizing Document of Record Management System

Dear Experts,
I have implemented Document Management System for my client. In my new project client is asking for the implemention of Record Managemnt System. I am new to this module. Can anyone help me in getting standard customizing document of Record Management System.
I cheked the basic info about the same in SAP help,but that does not give customization steps.

Scan documents into DMS

Hi experts.
Let me present the following question.
At the client there are a group of documents that arrive in paper format which must be afterwards scanned into to the legacy application.
It is intended to replace the legacy application with SAP DMS.
I haven't found any relevant documentation detailing how can a document be digitalized and sent into DMS, if it is even possible at all.
Does anyone knows of a solution for this?

Hi,
Keep your document scanned.
Create a Document Info Records using transaction CV01N.
Then change the DIR using CV02N. You can attach your scanned document here and save into the content server.
You can also use BDC to update the documents if you have many scanned document that are to be updated.

Problem with custom development for documents in Record Management

In Record Management i have setup a record model. It contains Bor objects, documents, cases and so on.
Each kind of record managent object has it own requirements.
For the documents there is a requirement which demands that if the scandate is changed also the date till which the document must be helded in the system must be changed.
This cannot be done automatically via default SAP and i don't want to let the customers do it there selfs, to much risk they make errors, so this must be done via custom development.
The logic searches in a enhanced method for the right attributes from the importing list of available attributes of the particular document.
This is going well in the development system but when i transport it to the test system it fails. I have noticed that the content of a custom developed field ( for example ZSCANDATE) is loaded well but a default field like SRM_DOM_STORAGE_START not. The systems returns an error that the description of the attribute is missing. When i look in the DMWB ( DocuMent WorkBench ) i dont see errors, but afcorse there is one.
What can i have forgotten in my record management installation?
Offcorse the test system is a copy of a working development system, but you have also some things that are system dependent. and i think i have forgotten some of those..

thanks for the quick answer. I tried it as you said and now I get a validation error in my h:messages tag on my jsf page after submitting the form. There are no errors in my JBoss console, just this one word on my jsf page. Do you have any idea what this could mean?
My two lists look like this:

First I would suggest that you read the documentation about working with Active/X.
The online version is in the documentation section of Forms on OTN.
Then, you insert the scan.ocx into your form. you use the ole importer to create a pl/sql package to communicate with the ocx and you are ready to start calling methods such as scan etc...

How do I upload scanned documents into SharePoint?

Is there a way to automatically upload scanned documents from a scanner into SharePoint without the use of a third party tool? I was just thinking about this, but then couldn't figure out how the metadata piece of the scanned document would work. Has anyone
implemented anything like this? Or is there a blog that can be recommended? I have not been able to find anything that could point me in the right direction.

Several MFP manufacturers are releasing solutions for this. You should see what your reseller has to offer.
Personally, I'd recommend you try Udocx. It's designed to include metadata, OCR etc when scanning to SharePoint folders. There's more information on www.udocx.com/SharePoint

Converting scanned documents into Word documents

Is there a way to covert a scanned document in PDF format and convert it over to a Word document?

My problem when I do that is that I get a lot of symbols that I do not

I know only Javascript and would like to convert a large numbers of scanned documents into layers to mount on white a4 canvas

I have got more than 400 scanned documents of A4 size. But they are not of uniform size. Luckily they are all of 300 dpi.They were created on a scanner. When opened in photoshop they contain random patches that are transparencies, although there seems to be no difficulty viewing themon adobe reader.
My laptop had "Gb RAM and does not accept CS4 I have Photoshop CS3. My javascript and photoshop are both limited to basic skills.
I would like to mount each document on a white A4 sized photoshop background of300dpi, as a layer, flatten it out and save as the desired page.
As this is rather time-consuming, I would like to have a script that will perform this task, on a single file.
I would like to manually run this script on each file.
If possible I would additionally like to put the individual pages in a folder and run the script repetetively on all files in the folder.
Any suggestions or held will be gratefully appreciated

Convert scanned document into PDF

I have PDF Pack and am trying to convert a scanned document to PDF and ultimately to MS Word. How is this done?

If the ultimate goal is a Word document, I would recommend against the additional step of converting to PDF first, if possible. What scanning software are you working with? Does it save in a format that Word can open?
If you don't have access to the scanning software, and saving to PDF is your only option, then you would use ExportPDF (part of Adobe PDF Pack) to convert the PDF file Word. (To convert the file to PDF, choose Create PDF on the menu bar when you're logged in to PDF Pack at https://cloud.acrobat.com.)

You should try scanning your document as a photo and moving it to photo gallery, that way, it will show up to attach on your email.

You might try PDF OCR X, a drag and drop application for OS X. The 'community' version is free, but is limited to single page PDF documents. The 'enterprise' version removes that limitation, but costs $30 (US).

I can't scan documents into Acrobat 9

Our users all have new computers with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I seem to be having problems with scanning. When a user tries to scan to pdf by selecting create pdf from scanner it never seems to work. I have tried a million different settings and have the latest updates with the latest drivers. Here is a list of problems the users are experiencing
1. Scan is fast but the transfer process is extremely slow.
2. It will scan all pages but only shows 1 in Acrobat.
3. After scanning a couple a pages it will stop and say that scanning was canceled. Even though the user never canceled.
All the sytems are the same. Core i7, 8Gb ram, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
We are using HP MFP 3015, 3050, and 1319.

As far as I know (I am a user, not Adobe) Acrobat does not itself scan... it uses a TWAIN driver to communicate with the scanner (the scanner's software?) and that twain driver (the scanner's software?) is what is actually doing the work and passing the image over to Acrobat
Since Win7 is still new, my GUESS is that you need a newer twain driver and/or software provided by the scanner company... this would be especially true for 64bit Windows

Records Managment Automatic Disposal of Documents

I have a customer request regarding automatic disposal of documents from Records Management after a predetermined amount of time has passed (i.e. legal retention dates have been met).Please advise if you have had to deal with this.

Create a RECORD PLAN and mention the retention time and disposal period. Mention this record plan in the record plan positiion attribute of the particular document.
