Scanning in color

This is a new problem.
I can not get the scanner to scan in color.  It's never been a broblem before as I have to do reports for monthly emails and have scanned in color often.
Can someone tell me what to do to get the color back?
Thank you!

Hello @smith9621,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the colour scan issue that you're experiencing when scanning from your HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One Printer to  your Mac OS X 10.10 computer. To be honest, this does sound like a driver or software conflict within your Mac OS X 10.10 computer and your HP Officejet.  Therefore, I am going to have you run through some troubleshooting steps to ensure that you are using the correct printer driver package on your computer to resolve this issue. Please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Reset the Print System:
To start, I am going to have you Reset the Print System on your Mac as it is important that we have a nice clean slate to work with for troubleshooting. Please click here for instructions on how to perform the Reset. When the website opens follow the steps under'Resetting the printing system in OS X Lion' as the steps are the same for your Mac OS X 10.10 Operating System. This Reset will remove every printer from your Mac. However, it does not uninstall the printers. Therefore, should you use other printers on this Mac, once the Reset is complete simply ensure that the printers are connected via a USB Cable or Network connected and (+) Add them back in. Do not add your HP Officejet back in at this time.
Once the reset is complete, please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Uninstall Drivers and Software:
Next, please click here for steps on how to properly uninstall your printer. Once the site opens select the dropdown for 'Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, and OS X v10.9'  as they are the same for Mac OS X 10.10 and follow the steps to complete the uninstall process.
Once the uninstall is complete, please continue on.
Step 3: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
Go to the Utilities Folder
Open the Disk Utility
Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
Select Verify Disk Permissions
Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
Step 4: Check for Apple Updates:
Go to Apple
Select System Preferences
Select Software Update
Click Update Now
Install your available updates
Restart your computer
Step 5: Install Device:
1. Please click here to download the latest drivers for your printer
2. Once the website opens select the Download button on the top left
3. Once the download is complete please follow the onscreen instructions to install your printer.
4. Next, I'm going to have you check to make sure the correct driver is being used on your Mac. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
5. Click Print & Scan, and then check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list.
6. If your printer is already listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm communication with the Mac. Click the name of your printer, click the minus sign (), and then delete the printer
7. Click the plus sign (), click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer
8. Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Ensure that you have the HP Officejet driver selected and not the AirPrint.
9. Click Add to add the printer to the list.

Now that the correct driver is added in, please try scanning again to verify if the colour issue has been resolved.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Good luck!

  • Officejet Pro 8620 All in One Will No Longer Scan in Color

    Hello,
I have an Officejet Pro 8620 all in one.  I was scanning a few items last night and the first few items came out in color fine. Then all of the sudden as I continued to scan the next few images would only scan in black and white.  I cannot seem to get the scanner to scan in color again.  How can I fix this?  I did not change any settings or anything while I was scanning so I do not know why the sudden change to black and white?  I am on a Mac computer with all newest operating system etc.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi there
I have some more suggestions for you to try. Please try them in order I have written them in.
    Reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Install the Full Feature Driver here: HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers
In addition, download this Apple driver: HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X
    That should do the trick!
    Good luck

  • Officejet pro 8610 won't scan in color

I'm using a Mac OS 10.6.8 and just connected my new HP Officejet Pro 8610.  It is only scanning in black and white.  I do not see a place to select for color (when you select copy you have that choice but not on scan).  It prints in color and makes color copies just fine.  I also cannot see a place where I can tell it which folder on the computer to save scans to.  Can you help me?

    Hi @just1me ,
I'd like to help you be able to scan in color.
Did you download and install the Full Feature Software or run the Apple Updates?
Here is a document for Scanning with the Full Feature HP Software in OS X v10.10 Yosemite.
Try the Apple Software to see if you have the same results.
Here is a screen shot for where to change the color settings, scanning with the HP Scan Software.
After clicking scan, click on the drop down to get more options.
After showing the preview you can select the Edit icon at the bottom for more features.
To save the scan, select the Send Icon.
    Hope this helps.
    Have a nice day!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus won't scan in color

I have had this printer for a couple years, and it worked fine.  Even though I have done it before, today I cannot scan a photo in color.  I have tried scanning as JPG and PDF and Everyday Scan.  I set the scan to color, but it always comes out in B&W.  I checked to make sure I had the latest drivers installed.  What else can I do?

It's my pleasure Surfbored, but I must admit, I am puzzled!
I am going to do some research and will return, if a take a day or too don't think I have forgotten about you. I appreciate your patience.

    Hi,
Please try using "Color Image" preset mode for scanning your logo based document. You can also perform custom scan and set "Color Mode" Setting to "Color" for scanning your document.

  • Can't scan in color from HP Officejet 8600 anymore

Previously, when i have used "scan to computer," the scanner would automatically scan in color when i chose "Save as PDF."  Somehow, that default setting has been changed, and now if i want to scan a color document, i have to choose "everyday scan," which i think produces a much bigger file. Any advice as to how to get back to my previous default color settings with "Save as PDF?"   I mainly use a Mac with OS X 10.10. Thanks!

  • HP8600 all in one - scanner suddenly won't scan in color to my mac os 10.5.8.

    How do I remedy?  thx!

    Hi,
The default scan workflow configured to scan documents as Black and White. Make sure to change the scan settings to scan documents with color:
    1. Open the HP Utility and select your device.
    2. From Scan Settings open the "Scan to Computer".
    3. Click the Scan Tasks tab.
    4. Select the affected shortcut and click on Edit... (or just double-click the shortcut).
    5. In the section of Scan from an HP Device click on the blue triangle to enlarge the menu.
    6. From the enlarged menu now open the drop-down menu next to Mode
    7. Now select the Color option and then click on OK to save the changes. The next scanned document using this workflow will appear in color.

  • When I scan in color the PDF won't open.

When I scan a document in 24-bit color or in True Gray with either Adobe Reader 10.1.4 or 11.0.4 It gives me an error message saying I don't have permission to write to that folder. This happens no matter what folder I try to write to. It does create a file of the pdf scan but the file won't open; the error message says the file is damaged.
However if I scan in B&W or in Gray with Error Diffusion everything works fine.
This problem appeared suddently with no apparent cause.

You may want to talk to whomever makes your scanning software. You don't "scan" with Adobe Reader. You simply use it to open files after the fact and it sounds like the scanner software is corrupting the files.

  • Scanning with "color restoration button"

    Computer: IMac OSX 10.9.5
    3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
    8GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
My beloved HP Photosmart C7180 no longer was recognized when scanned after upgrading to Maverick OS. I would have to go thru Preview and jump thru hoops just to scan so I decided to buy the new version, HP Photosmart 7525, which was compatible.
What I loved about the C7180 was it"s scanning options. Since I scan a lot of old photographs the button options to "color restore, remove scratches, dust" was amazing. The photos became alive again without doing much else.
Alas, I was highly disappointed with the 7525 since I was expecting new and more inovative options and only found a
"manual" option for image correction, which produces poor quality at restoring original colors.
So I re-connected my old C7180 and tried to install the old software but now get an error message -"PowerPC applications" are no longer supported. I'm stuck with the new software with the "manual" option for image correction.
Spent an hour on the phone with a HP rep with no solution other than to buy Photoshop for more scanning options.
I don't want to send photos out to be restored  & I don't want to use other software. How can Hewlett Packard leave us out in the cold with no updates for the Photosmart C7180?
If anyone knows of a printer/scanner that has the color restoration option please let me know.  Any advice/recommendation is welcomed!

  • Scanjet G3010 Scans black color with faint green stripe

When scanning photos the black or other dark colors will have a faint green stripe over a portion of the photo.  The green stripe may actually cover some of the other colors however it is clearly visible on the portions that are black.  I have installed the latest driver for Windows 7 64 bit dated Oct 2012 with no improvement.  This has been a issue as long as I have owned this scanner and I have grown weary of trying to reposition the photos to make the green tint less noticeable.

Thank you, FXChrome did the trick.

  • Scanning conflict   Acrobat 9 pro   "Color Format Selected Not Supported"

I have had several conflicts with Adobe Acrobat 9 and my HP C5180 printer/scanner/copier.   I have downloaded new drivers from HP.   When I try to create  a PDF from the scanner,  I get this conflict warning:   "Color Format Selected Not supported".    So, I change the color format selections in both HP and Acrobat and I still get the warning.    I must admit I haven't tried the black and white color format.  But I want to scan simple color images.  No luck.
Has anyone else had such a problem?

This may have nothing to do with your problem, but -- at least with Acrobat 8, there is a 100MB limit to the scanned image. Are you trying to scan something larger than that?

  • Question on scanned images and coloring in Photoshop

I have some sketches from my drawing class that I would like to scan and color in Photoshop. I scan the sketch
but I can't add color. I've tried 'lassoing' a portion of the drawing
but the paint bucket still won't add color.
What am I doing wrong? Please help.
    thanks.

The Paint Bucket tool may be the wrong tool, or at least you may have its Threshold set to a low value, as it replaces pixels only of a similar color to the one you click on.
It may be more direct to just select the Brush tool and set up a large brush to paint solid color in the region you selected.
If you want to get into more advanced functionality, which will allow you to correct mistakes or continue to adjust your colorizing for example, perhaps you will want to create a new layer and paint on that layer.  Without knowing your goals it's hard to advise further, but you might also want to learn more about Layer blending mode "Color" vs. "Normal".

  • Color scanning problem with Photosmart 7520

    Hi Magnusho,
Im suspecting that the default mode for the PDF is Grayscale/Black and White. To verify this, follow steps below:
    1. Double click /Applications/Hewlett-Packard/HP Utility
    2. Click "Scan to computer"
    3. Click "Edit Scan Task..." button
    4. Hp Scan wil launch and will open Preferences window
    5. Select "Document (PDF)" or shortcuts that contains PDF
    6. Click "Edit" button.
    7. Click "Show Details" button. Scan Presets will display.
    8.Check the Mode?
If the mode is in "Grayscale/Black and White" then thats the reason why the scan output is not color. If you want colored scan output, change the mode to Color. Then click "OK" button.
    Try scanning again.
