Scanning in editable text mode

When I scan a document using the editable text mode, the previewed copy comes up correct.  When I save the copy to my desktop or document file, the copy become ureadable because the lettering changes.  Rich text sends the document to Microsoft Word which should be able to read the document properly.

Hi @mid13078,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you cannot scan in editable text mode, and I am happy to help!
For further assistance, I will need to know the following:
The Product/Model Number of your printer. Follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number.
If you are using a Windows or Mac Operating System, and the version number. To find the exact version, visit this link. Whatsmyos.
If the printer is connected, Wireless, Ethernet, or USB.
If you are using the HP Software to scan or a Third-party program.
Please see this post, Want Good Answers? Ask Good Questions, by @Bob_Headrick, so you can get the most out of these forums.
Hope to hear from you soon!

  • Can I Scan to editable text on HP Officejet Pro 8620 using the Apple Printer Driver 3.0?

Can I Scan to editable text on HP Officejet Pro 8620 using the Apple Printer Driver 3.0?
I had a very difficult time getting my new HP Officejet Pro 8620 functioning as well as it does now.  I just tried scanning something as editable text for the first time and it ended up being scanned as a pdf.  At one point in my various tries there was a note on the printer screen that I did not have the HP OCR software installed.
This may be because the resolution to my installation problems with the HP Officejet Pro 8620 seems to have been reverting to operating with the HP-Apple Printer Drivers 3.0 package instead of the HP-Officejet-Pro-8620_v12.32.0.dmg installation package.
I do not, therefore, have the HP Scan application on my computer now which is where HP says its OCR software can be found.
So what I'm afraid of is that I'm now running well with the HP-Apple driver but if I do go back and install the HP Officejet Pro v12.32.0 driver software with the HP installer, in order to access the OCR softwware in HP Scan application, I'll mess up everything else.
Is there any chance that the HP-Apple Printer Drivers 3.0 package I have installed also includes OCR software?  If so where can I find instructions for activating it and using it with the HP 8620's scanner?
Or can I only get OCR capability with the HP-Officejet-Pro-8620_v12.32.0.dmg package?
Any experience with this?  Should I leave well enough alone?  Or can I somehow install the HP-Officejet-Pro-8620_v12.32.0.dmg package without messing up my current functionality?
    Thanks
    Steve

The printer driver that is installed automatically from Apple doesn't scan. The scanner part can be accessed through Image Capture, but I don't think that does any OCR on the scan. You'd need a separate program. As you noted, many of the bundled software programs have OCR built-in (albeit limited). From my experience, that is only activated when you scan to "searchable" PDF or something similar. You would then have to extract the text from the PDF.
I don't have an HP printer/scanner, so take this all with a grain of salt.
If you can just install the Scanner utilities, that shouldn't affect the printer portion.
Your other option would be to purchase separate OCR software. Unless you need to scan lots of documents into text, you should further investigate installing the HP scan utilities.

  • Is there MAC way (not PDF) to scan and edit text?

ADOBE is a *****! Is there an apple way to scan in a typed page and then be able to edit it?
I have a private typed out family geneology I need to update. Thanks.

In order to edit text for a scanned document, the text needs to be converted from being an image to actual text after or during the scan process. This is known as OCR - Optical Character Recognition. There is no Apple application that has this. Both Image Capture and Preview only scan the document as an image. So you need an OCR application or an application like Acrobat Pro that has OCR facility. With your edited dislike of Adobe you could look at purchasing Abby Finereader which is very accurate. If you would prefer a free version, then you could try PDF OCR X, which is not as accurate as Finereader but saves you $110.
Note also that some vendors include an OCR function with their scanning application. So depending on what scanner you have, you may have another free option.

  • I have hp printer scan in windows 8 but i cant edit text when it pull up on windows 8

I have windows 8 on dell lap top with hp all in one printer scanner Scanning works great but when it pull up on screen it will not let me edit

    Hello wanda10,
    Welcome to the forums!
For scanning, and being able to edit the text after. I have included the document 'HP Multifunction Printers - How to Scan: Windows 8'. Read through the document, and about a quarter of the way down, it has an option for How to scan as editable text (OCR). Please let me know if this option works for you.
If not, I would like to confirm some further information with you.
    1. What is the model number of your printer. I have included the document 'Guide to finding your product number'.
    2. What program are you using to scan with?
    3. Is the full featured software installed for the printer?
    Thank you.

  • Editable text scan

using  hp officejet 8500  with window xp I was able to edit my scans.  Now using window 8.1 that menu is not available.
The only download  was HP scan & capture.  Though it will scan photos and docs (only in pdf).  Is there a way to scan to editable text and also e mail the scan directly as was possible with xp??

    Hi,
In order to get full funtionality as OCR scanning, you will need to install the latest full feature software for your PC.
First open the control panel and select Devices and Printers, right click any existing Officejet 8500 icon and select Remove Device.
If the printer is connected with a USB, unplug the cable at this time. be sure to keep it unplugged till the installation will guide to connect it.
Next download and install the full feature software below, that will add full functionality as OCR scanning through the HP Solution Center Software:

  • Acrobat XI, Edit Text ... can you turn off line wrapping?

Just upgraded from Acrobat X Pro to XI Pro ... any way to toggle line-wrapping on & off in edit text mode?
I appreciate that XI has much livelier text editing, but sometimes I don't want the text to be that lively.
Making a simple tweak in text often changes line wrapping on totally other lines in a paragraph, even if the line with the change doesn't wrap differently. Nothing about the font or character spacing appears to change, just the paragraph right border.
Often the original line wrapping can be restored by adjusting the paragraph object's right border back to where it was, but sometimes that introduces even more line wrapping differences. Any way to make this more stable?

  • I cannot edit text in a PDF created from scanning

I am using Adobe XI, and I have created a PDF by scanning a document.
When I do click on a paragraph to edit text, all the page appears selected, it seems to be an image. At that moment a message pops up saying: this page has not editable text or digitalized content. The editing tools are disabled, so I cannot edit text.
If I do export a page to Excel or Word, I can edit text there, although there are some kind of data that is not converted properly (even when I have executed OCR).
I have edited preferences, but I am not sure if I did it correctly.
    Thanks

I am using Acrobat XI Pro on PC.
Of course, I have done all the steps you mention,  but I wanted someone to confirm me if these setting values are correct in order to obtain the best results. I repeat the paragraph of my previous discussion that I want to clarify, just in case some of you can help me, mainly about optimization
I digitalized the document from the scanner. This scanner is installed in the net, so I personalized the settings in Acrobat and I chose memory mode instead of native mode.
    Mode color: black on white
    Resolution: 600 ppp
As you say in your mail, I understand I should choose ClearScan OCR not searchable just at this moment.
Well, and what about the options of optimization?, JBIG2 (without lost)?, 4 CCITT?
And filters?, I have: activated, low, activated, medium
Are these values congruous or compatible?
    Thank you

  • Edit text in a scanned page

I have opened scanned pages in to acrobat X1 pro and cannot edit, it says its not editable text how do I scan it as an editable text

A scanned document is an image; there is no "text" to edit.
However, if there is text inside that image, it can be recognized using OCR in Acrobat.  After that, such text will be editable.

  • How scan a text document and save as editable text not image

I have a new ENVY 5660 and a macbook pro running yosemite.  When I scan a text document and try to save it, I am only given a choice of image formats.  How can I save it as an editable text in pages or word?

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are wondering how to scan a text document, and save as editable text, and not a image, with your HP Envy 5660, on Mac OS X 10.10. I am happy to look into this for you!  According to your printer's specifications, it states: NOTE: Integrated OCR software is available only with Officejet 5740 and 8040 models. Which means, this software is not included with this printer. You might be able to perform this operation, if you are able to get third-party OCR software. Such as: ReadIris.  Hope this answers your question!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

  • Editing text in scanned document (OCR)

I'm a newbie, and I've tried my hardest to do this without asking for help, but could only get so far.
I have PDFs that are scanned pages of text in boxes. All I want to do is edit some of the text. I'm able to activate OCR so that text is recognizable and selectable, but obviously this isn't enough to actually edit the text. I think a plug-in might help me, but the first one I tried didn't seem to work.
In the end, I got one page done by opening the PDF in Photoshop and covering the old text with a white box and the new text. This is NOT ideal! Also, because this is nice and new, crisp text added with Photoshop, it stands out a bit from the unedited text which is slightly fuzzy because it is a scanned image.
Free is always best, and I'd like to save money, but I can afford buying new software and plug-ins if I must. Is it possible to do what I am trying to do? If so, what version of Acrodbat do I need? If I need any extras, what should I get?
    Thanks in advance.

Editing in this way is not really ideal. Anyway, you needed to do the OCR that created graphics and text. I.E., replaces anything that is recognized by the text and deletes the related image of that part. You would then need to check for the problems (the other step in OCR with Acrobat). Af ter that you may have a pretty good copy, maybe not. You should then be able to edit text, but probably with difficulty. The text boxes and such may not be setup for good editing. You might find it easier at that point to save it as a DOC file and edit in a word processor, even if you have a lot of repair to do. It should still be better than starting from scratch.

  • Photosmart 6520 unable to scan editable text

I am unable to scan editable text from my HP Photosmart 6520 to my HP Envy Phoenix pc running Windows 8.1  64 bit.
It is possible to scan the document to the pc as a pdf file.
It is then possible to convert the pdf to a Word document but the text is not editable.
Is anyone able to help me with this please?
Note: I am able to convert pdf files sent to me via e-mail into word documents with editable text.

  • I have opened scanned pages in to acrobat X1 pro and cannot edit, it says its not editable text how do I scan it as an editable text

I have opened scanned pages in to acrobat X1 pro and cannot edit, it says its not editable text how do I scan it as an editable text

All scanners output one thing only -- an image, a picture of the stuff on the paper that was scanned.
There is not "text". There is a picture of text characters.
This image / picture can be brought into a PDF. What is in the PDF is still an image / picture of text.
Open the PDF with Acrobat. Use Acrobat's OCR feature.
If you desire to touchup some characters use the "ClearScan" OCR.
(Review Acrobat's Help to resolve any questions on this.)
Note that PDF is not a word processor file format and does not tolerate word processor like "editing".
Use Acrobat to do touchups to characters and short character strings. Save As often.
    Be well...

  • How do you edit text that is in a text box?

How do you edit text that is in a text box?  I just want to change the font color of the text.  Solution in the Help files recommends selecting the text and then selecting Optional) To make further changes to the text box:
Using the Select tool or the Text Box tool, click an edge of the text box to select it, and then drag a corner to resize it. Use the Properties toolbar to change the border and fill options.
Double-click the text box to edit the text or change the text attributes. Drag across text to select it, and then select options from the Properties toolbar.
This is what the help files recommend
(Optional) To make further changes to the text box:
Using the Select tool or the Text Box tool, click an edge of the text box to select it, and then drag a corner to resize it. Use the Properties toolbar to change the border and fill options.
Double-click the text box to edit the text or change the text attributes. Drag across text to select it, and then select options from the Properties toolbar.
When I try the above solution I don't have a  "Options" in the "Properties" toolbar.
Why would they change a process that was so simple in previous editions to such a hidden awkward process?

Try with a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer and/or changing the blending mode.
If the effect is too much for the rest of the bulb, you may be able to mask it out.
It would help if you post a representative picture here on the forum page for us to look at.

  • Scanning to edit

hp8600 all in one printer, i would like to scan a doc to my computer so that i may edit it , my windows 8 laptop shows only pdf scan options, is there a way to upgrade or do ihave an another option

Hi hh5701, and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you are having issues with editable text.  I would like to help.
If you do not already have the OCR software installed, I would recommend doing that: OCR Application.
I would also ensure when selecting which file type to scan as, you select "searchable PDF".
Please let me know how that goes.  Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
