Scanning in my own paintings :)

Hi there,
I want to scan my own paintings, and reproduce them/ make prints. Up until now I've only ever scanned my line drawings in Illustrator, and have never experiemented with photoshop. What's the easiest way to go about it?
I don't really want to edit anything, I just need it to look clean enough to print copies.....drop the background, any paper markings etc...but still want it to look like my painting obviously!
I would appreciate ANY help at all
Thanks!
Emma

One thing you might want to do is to opened the scanned file in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR).  You can do this from Bridge by selecting the image and pressing ctrl/cmd-R, or by right clicking on the image and selecting "open with camera raw."  This will give you a lot of great tools to adjust your image: brightness, contrast, vibrance, etc.  You can also do corrections in Photoshop.  I would use adjustment layers, which create a special layer that can be re-edited.  Curves would be my first choice to correcting the iamge, as it give you the most control for adjusting the colors of the shadows, midtones, and highlights differently.  However, a lot of people get intimidatated by them.  Once you use them a few time, you can get the hang of them.  You can also adjust the saturation and or vibrance with another adjustment layer.  As far as "Lifting" the painting off the paper background, I'm assuming that you don't have straight edges, and would like to have what just what you painted on it's own layer.  That all depends upon your image what would be the best way.  There is a lot of ways to do that, so it comes down to personal preference for a lot of it.

  • Where did Wi-Fi Scan go in OS 10.8.4?

I realize that Wi-Fi Diagnostics was replaced by Wireless Diagnostics in 10.8.4 but where did Wi-Fi Scan go?  It was a sub-program of Wi-Fi Diagnostics and I would have thought that it would not have vanished completely from Wireless Diagnostics.  On any given day there are 10-15 visible Wi-Fi networks in my community and sometimes I find myself competing with others using the same radio channel that my Time Capsule is set to.  If I were experiencing a problem I used Wi-Fi Scan to find a channel that was not being used.  Theoretically, setting the Wireless Options in Airport Utility to Automatic should aleviate co-channel interferrence between my Time Capsule's automatic settings and those of my neighbors but that was not always the case.  I found that manually finding an unused channel works best for my Time Capsule.

If you look below you will see that I have the older and newer Wi-Fi Scans installed.  The older Wi-Fi Scan did show the hidden networks but not the names.  My network is hidden and it shows my network with a ✓ mark next to where the name would normally be.  It shows both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. If I click on the Menu Wi-Fi signal indicator and force the system to "Look for Networks..." with the Wi-Fi Scan window open Wi-Fi Scan does a scan on its own since it seems to always be in the Active mode from the time you open it.  Once it re-scans it sees my network names and displays them.  I am unsure if it does this for others in my neighborhood because I don't see any other hidden networks.
The new Wi-Fi Scan that is located in OS 10.8.4 is not Active when it is first opened.  You have to tell it to perform a scan.  After it scans it sometimes shows my hidden network and its name but it only shows the 2.4 GHz network and not the 5 GHz network.  I said sometimes because it does not always display my network. I have yet to do a scan and see my 5 GHz network or any other 5 GHz network in my neighborhood. I'm not sure it is scanning for 5 GHz networks.
I'm sure the idea was to make both the older and newer Wi-Fi Scans work the similarly.  They are not identicle and are only similar in appearance.  Their scan results are never the same, they are only similar.

  • Merging two large scans

i am trying to merge a set of "two-sided" scans of roughly 100+ pages which i now have of a "front" and "back" side for. Basically I am going to have a pdf of each of these and I am going to keep the images in two folders as well.
aside from the fact that i will have to do a little culling where a scan added an extra bad page due to a bad feed or in making sure that the documents and/or images line up - is there a way to merge these two into one document that goes front-back-front-back etc like the original document?
i tried getting advice on how to get this hp 8500 all in one scanner to do the two sided scan on its own but my recollection was that I was unlikely to get this to work.
    TIA for any advice.
    Jon

    Thank you.
I actually need the different margins to allow for 3-hole punch. This was created from an HTML file and scripts were written to give me the margin space that I need but each document had to be run just one way which is why I now have to merge the even/odd pages. Apparently there is a script that will do this.

  • I cannot scan documents

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 SP1 64 bit version.  I have been having problems with my printer initially could not download the solution center and now cannot scan.  I own an HP 6500 All-In-One E709a printer. I installed the Scan and Printer Doctor and when it performs a diagnostic exploration, I can see the scanner working but at the end it recommends to reinstall HP Photosmart Essentials which I did but to no avail.  It also asks to turn off the printer and unplug it and wait for 60 secs, unplug the USB cable, check the cable, check the internet, etc. but it does not work.  Please help.

Hello @Boricua06 , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing software issues.  I would like to help!
I would suggest removing the USB cable, and  Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once it is uninstalled, I would suggest putting your system into clean boot mode within the Microsoft configuration.  You can do so by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Once the computer is in clean boot mode, I would suggest reinstalling the HP Officejet J6400 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver.
Don't plug the USB cable in until prompted.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Force a scan & have iphoto suggest faces?

I have pictures that have been imported and OBVIOUSLY contain faces of people already identified.
    A) Can I force iPhoto to rescan a given album or set of photos?
    B) Can i reasonably expect iphoto to then populated a given persons Faces section with suggested photos, which I can then easily confirm or not?
It is a major pain to have to go through un-faced photos and ID each face, when they are clearly of people already in my Faces.
How often does iphoto rescan and suggest?
    DE

Have you upgraded to the latest iPhoto? it does much better.
I don't think it ever re-scans on its own, but you can right(ctl) click on the photo and select the re-scan option.

  • I need help scanning

    Can anybody help me please.
I have been useing an Epson SX215 printer Scanner for just 4 years now but today after scanning in 3 pictures the program appears to have changed of its own accord.
I normally just go into view my pictures with Adobe and the procedure I usually follow is as I now explain, I click on File Then move the arrow to get pictures then move to scanner, then my screen usually shows a box displaying Adobe 4-0 but this never done  anthing clicking here so I click on the arrow head next to the words Adobe 4-00 and Epson SX 215 appears which I click on.
The page now just usually changes to a preview screen or a scan option, I click on Preview and then it goes to scan on its own usually and the vfinished picture appears on a blank shhet and I click return to all photo's and the latest scan is their as the first item on the page.
That has always been my procedure but  to day after clicking on the Epson SX215 a new box appears on the left hand side of the page taking up half of te page.
I have never seen this page before but it has places where the photo size and various other things can be changed so I changed the sizes to 4" X 6" which was what I usually get but the results are such that when I go to view the photo it appears to be on an A4 sheet in the top left corner.
I have spoken with Epson's technical while going through the motions on screen but I cannot get him to understand that I have always used the Epson box for scanning as far as I understand but he says if that is the case then Adobe must have just changed something.
    In desparation please help.

Some screen shots would be helpful (use the camera icon to add them). Also have you just updated PSE from an earlier version and the problem is only arising in the new version?

  • Wifi disconnects on highish throughput

    Hi,
I've got wireless problems with the combination of my router and my laptop. Whenever I download something more than say 1MB the connection drops. This happens with Youtube, Google Image search and Pacman updates. The connection re-establishes after a few seconds to drop out again some 10-15 seconds later. This continues until either the download fails or is finished.
On the university, which uses eduroam, I've got no problems connecting and no problems downloading.
I'm using wpa_supplicant to connect, which is started by dhcpd. The settings for the connection with my router are as basic as could be, only an SSID and PSK are given in the configuration file.
    What I've tried so far:
Update system with pacman. No success
Change router to mixed BG only, no N. No success
Turned power management off. No success
I've had the problem a few weeks back, but then changing the config file to a minimum fixed the problem.
On Windows 8.1 the wifi seems to work fine.
Does anyone have a clue on how to fix this?

I have been using the HP Laserjet Pro cm1415fnw for over a year without a problem.  At the time when I first purchased the unit, I was using a Dell desktop with Windows XP and connected the printer via USB port.  I was able to print and scan from my computer, including from within applications that use TWAIN scanning driver such as Word, Acrobat, etc.
I have since upgraded to an HP slimline s5-1160 computer using Windows 7.  I installed the Laserjet software from my installation CD's without a problem.  The printer is connected to the computer by USB port.  I can continue to print without a problem.  However, I no longer am able to scan using the HP software (HPscan.exe) nor from within applications that use TWAIN scanning driver such as Word, Acrobat, etc.  When I attempt to do so, it takes a long time before it asks me what TWAIN scan driver to select.  When I select the HP cm1410 MFP series, the program either crashes or reverts to the state it was before I attempted to scan an image into a document from within the program.
I can however scan successfully using the Windows Scan and Fax wizard or if I choose "Devices and Printers" from the Start Menu and select "Start scan" from the menu after right-clicking the HP printer icon.  However this option limits my use of the scanner -- I cannot scan to a PDF nor can I scan multiple pages into an OCR application.  I'm forced to scan to either a JPG or TIF or PNG.
As for attempting to resolve this problem I have done the following with no success:
Uninstall and reinstall the full software and drivers (and using the most recent version on the HP website)
    Change USB ports and/or cables
Run the HP scan diagnostic utility, which seems to show an error at the WIA scanning step and then recommends that I uuninstall and reinstall the full software.  When I skip that and allow it to check for TWAIN scanning, it gives me a similar error, suggesting that I use the most recent version of the drivers (the driver that I am using is v 3.0 dated 11/12/2009)  Therefore in this case the HP scan diagnostic utility does NOT provide a fix for this problem other than uninstall and reinstall, which I have done several times to no avail
Contact HP support both for the computer and the multifunction printer (which as I understand are different support staff).  The printer staff claims it's a software problem and that the computer staff should be able to resolve it (something about not having "launchpad" installed properly.  When I contact the computer staff, they claim it's a printer driver issue.  So I am at a standstill
I researched the HP support forums only to find from this link - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02661093&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4089468&tmp... - that if you cannot scan from HP software that you can use the programs that rely on WIA drivers (Windows Fax and Scan) which I already know I can do but implies that HP does NOT have a solution for how to scan using their own software!
My gut tells me that this is one of those problems that many others may have but for which there is no workable solution.  It's possible that during the course of uninstalling and reinstalling the software, remnants may remain behind that prevent proper functioning of the drivers, but without knowing how to specifically "clean" those remnants before reinstalling the software, I am at a loss.  Oh and by the way, I've also tried using CCleaner and Norton Registry Cleaner in an attempt to clean those remnants, but that effort didn't help.
My question is basically this... does anyone know of a fix around this problem or must I resign myself to using the Windows Fax and Scan wizard to scan in documents and images and forget about using TWAIN programs as HP seems to be suggesting?  I would think that given that I am using an HP printer/scanner along with an HP computer with Windows 7 that this problem should NOT be a problem!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Before attempting to install the printer on my computer (HP slimline s5-1160), I had been able to successfully install the printer previously on two other computers: a Lenovo T-410 laptop (work computer using Windows XP) and an HP Pavilion Elite HPE (wife's computer using Windows 7).
On those computers, I can use the TWAIN driver from within applications without a problem, and the HPSCAN.exe file works as well.  Both computers connect to the printer wirelessly.
It is while trying to install the printer on my home computer via USB that I am having all sorts of difficulty. I have also tried to connect my s5-1160 to the printer wirelessly from my computer. I also checked the Windows Services, and all seems fine there.  I also tried switching USB ports and cables.   Again, no luck with the scanning using TWAIN driver.
One other point: when I use the original installation CD that came with the printer to install on the s5-1160, the installation seems to stop when it says "Checking requirements for installation"  That didn't happen with the two other computers.   However, that problem doesn't happen the s5-1160 when I used the more recent version of the full software from the HP website.
Let me reiterate.  I have never had any problems with printing from any computer.  The scanner works fine from my s5-1160 if I resort to using the scanner and fax wizard using the WIA drivers.  What I am unable to do is to get the scanner to work from within an application using the TWAIN driver or if I use the native HP application (hpscan.exe).  Nothing seems to happen.   Because of that I cannot scan directly into a PDF.
And the only fix that the HP scan diagnostic utility continues to recommend is that I uninstall and reinstall the software.  It shows errors in the WIA scanning step and TWAIN step.
Is it possible that because of behind-the-scenes Windows updates that my s5-1160 is receiving that a software conflict is created that prevents the TWAIN driver from functioning properly?  Other than that I am at a loss to figure out why this is happening.

  • 10.6.8 update breaks image capture?

Image capture works fine until it gets half-way through its final scanning operation, then it quits. This problem began after I completed an Apple suggested 10.6.8 update. I see indications that others have experienced this, but can't find how the problem was overcome. Help?

Thanks. I'm on USB, have run disk permissions, tosed out and replaced Image Capture Permissions file, etc., etc., over an exhausting 5 day period. Since both my HP printer-scanner (HP Photosmart premium C309g) and flatbed (Canon Lide 35) are still able to deliver a scan using their own more complex internal scanning software rather than the preferred more easily used Image Capture software, and since the printing side of the HP machine prints without problems, I am inclined to basically agree with you. It appears that the HP and Canon drivers can't quite handle something in the Image Capture-related part of the 10.6.8 update, and I'm hoping that eventually HP and Canon will have new updates that can work with Image Capture.
I ran across an HP employee's suggestion on the internet last night. He was aware of the problem and identified a different driver that is supposed to repair the problem for wireless-connected versions of my Photosmart, but I don't know about USB connected versions. I may try to get back to him to ask about using that driver on USB based printers later, but have run out of exploration time at this point.

  • An update is not installed but MS update says no updates available.

We had a security team scan our network and they found one of our servers didn't have KB2743555 installed. The problem is, when we go to MS and do a manual check for updates, it says there are no updates available. We checked other servers and found this

need an answer to provide to the security team. Thanks

It could be that you have a hotfix or something similar to this:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2998097
When you scan for updates, are you scanning against microsoftupdate.com, or scanning against your own WSUS ?
(if scanning against your own WSUS, or some equivalent product, you might not be scanning against the "full" catalog...)

  • Time Capsule is slow

    Hi there,
I have been using my Time Capsule for around 6 months now - both on my MacBook Pro and iMac (Leopard 10.5.5). I am experiencing troubles when I try to backup. Basically, Time Machine just stalls on the "Preparing Backup..." status. I haven't been able to successfully backup in about a week now.
Has anyone got some solutions to this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ricky.

    ricky,
Here are some thoughts that might give you some ideas on troubleshooting this:
*_Time Machine May Report "Preparing..." For a Long Time_*
First, it’s good to determine WHY Time Machine is "Preparing..." for an extended period of time. Examining the Console logs during this event can reveal what is actually going on behind the scenes. It may be “Preparing…” for a genuinely good reason. How long is 'too long' to wait for Time Machine to finish "Preparing..."? Some times, "Preparing..." is required to perform the normal housekeeping that Time Machine does periodically. Other times, it really is "stuck" and never proceeds after more than 24 hours.
*”Deep Traversal” (Recent Crash / System Update / Extended Period Between Backups)*
According to the following KB article it can sometimes take quite a long time if Time Machine begins a “deep traversal” and has to compare data inventories. This may apply to your situation, particularly if many Gigs of data are involved. [http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1516]
You see, Time Machine *+does not+* ordinarily perform file-by-file comparisons to determine what has changed and thus determine what needs to be backed up. Rather, Time Machine relies on FSEvents notifications. This is a log that the system uses to keep track of changes to directories. Rather than scan tens of thousands of files for changes each time, Time Machine simply looks at this log and narrows its’ scan to only the directories that have experienced changes since the last backup. Otherwise, Time Machine would have to be running constantly just to catch every change on its own and thus eat up precious CPU.
If the system crashes, experiences a power failure, or some other major system event, then Time Machine will consider the FSEvents log as “untrustable”. In this event, Time Machine will by-pass the system log and perform its’ own file-by-file comparison to determine what has changed since its’ last backup. This is called a “deep traversal”. Obviously, if tens or hundreds of Gigs are involved, then this process can take quite some time and should be allowed to proceed.
Every event that FSEvents records has its’ own ID which includes a time stamp. At the end of every backup, Time Machine stores the last event ID that it processes. When the next backup is initiated, Time Machine looks at this stored ID and determines that it only needs to backup events that have occurred after the time stamp on this last event ID. If, for some reason, Time Machine cannot find this last event ID in the system logs then it will consider the logs “untrustable” and it will go into “deep traversal”.
Additionally, it appears that if Time Machine has to go back too far to find the last event ID, then it will give up and simply go into “deep traversal” and do the file-by-file scan on its’ own. This can occur if Time Machine has not been able to perform its’ hourly backups for some time, as is the case for users who only backup once a week or so.
    *Anti-Virus Software*
Running anti-virus software can interfere with the backup process. Either disable it altogether, or try the suggestion outlined here, “If you use third-party anti-virus scanning software and have issues, make sure your Time Machine back up folder (Backups.backupdb on the Time Machine disk) is excluded from virus scanning.” (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1516)
    *Software Updates* #
Installing new software, upgrading existing software, or updating Mac OS X system software can create major changes in the structure of your Macs directories. Time Machine will backup every file that has changed since the installation.
After an OS update (like 10.5.5) Time Machine realizes the system no longer matches what it looked like during the previous backup. So it has determined that it's earlier catalogue of what-should-be-where is “untrustable”. So it is going to go item-by-item comparing the before and after of your system. If you have just performed an OS Update then Time Machine knows what it's doing - let it do it!
*Spotlight Keeps Indexing Backup Drive* #
It may be that Time Machine can’t proceed or complete a backup due to a Spotlight indexing error. During this period, take a look at the Spotlight icon in the upper right corner of your screen. Is there a tiny dot pulsating in the center of the spyglass? Click on the icon. Is there a progress bar displayed? Generally, Spotlight indexing is a good thing. If it has only been a couple of hours then let the process continue.
However, at times it may hang and never progress after many hours, preventing further backups from taking place.
Go to System Prefs --> Spotlight --> Privacy Tab.
Drag your Time Machine disk into the window. It should now be among the items to exclude from indexing.
    Now quit System Prefs.
    Reboot your Mac.
Reopen System Prefs and remove ("-") the Time Machine disk from the window.
    Now initiate a backup.
This should clear out Spotlights cache. Naturally, Spotlight should begin indexing again (maybe even for a few hours depending on how much data there is), but it should eventually stop.
    *Run Away System Process*
It’s possible that Time Machine is stuck “Preparing…” because another process is monopolizing your Macs’ CPU. Launch Activity Monitor and sort the items by “CPU”. Is there a process that is at or near 100% that might be preventing the backupd process from moving forward?
One poster stated, “I took it to my local Genius Bar and they found a Syslogd daemon running, taking up 100% of my CPU. The result (other than bad performance) was that the disk configuration was constantly dynamic, thus TM could never pin it down to back it up. This resulted in the "Preparing..." mode running forever. They resolved it by simply reloading the OS X to 10.5.4. It ran fine on that and I've now updated back to 10.5.5 and everything is running fine.” [http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1755600&tstart=15]
You can use Activity Monitor to “kill” the offending process. Or you may be able to resolve it simply by rebooting your Mac. Then try backing up again.
    *Reboot Time Capsule* #
If, though, none of the options above have helped and it has been 12 hours or more of “Preparing…”, then the Time Capsule may need to be restarted.
Stop the backup from the Time Machine menu. (Give if a few minutes while it says “Stopping backup…”)
When the Time Machine icon stops spinning, unplug the TC from the wall outlet.
    Wait 10-15 seconds.
    Re-plug it in again.
After it has restarted (30-60 seconds), attempt another backup.
Time Machine will report “Preparing…” again, but it shouldn’t be lasting more than a couple of hours.
Let us know if any of the above was helpful in your case.
    Cheer!

  • Cover flow and Album Art Peculiarities

Ordinarily when I import an album into iTunes, all the songs on the CD are consolidated under a single album cover reducing the number of instances of art in Cover flow. As iTunes plays down through the list of songs, the same album cover is displayed in Cover flow. I can also see the next album in the que on either side of the album currently playing.
Lately though, I'm seeing an instance of album art for each song on an album. For example, if there are twelve songs on the album, there will be twelve instances of the album art work in Cover flow.
I have looked carefully at the song/album information to ensure it is consistent for each song on the album and it all appears to be same so I've just about given up.
I like to scan in my own CD covers to get the highest resolution artwork possible (generally 175k in size) and because it can be very time consuming, I no longer ask iTunes to search for album art.
I select the entire list of songs in the album and perform a Get Info and drop the artwork onto the Art well and Cover flow will react in one of two ways; it either consolidates all songs under a single piece of art or it will display the art for each song on the album!
    What am I doing wrong?
    G4 Dual Mirrored Door

For the instances where you are getting multiple album art showing in Cover Flow, are those songs from a compilation album? If the artist name isn't exactly the same for each song, iTunes will list them individually. You will have to: identify them as a compilation or alter the tag info or use the Sorting option to group them together.

  • Newbie needs colour replacement advice

I'm still feeling my way along with PS and would appreciate some help with what is probably a very straightforward issue: I'm planning to do some giclee prints involving scans of original watercolour paintings of botanical subjects. Because of the nature of the subject, 90% of the content of the image is actually the original art paper with nothing on it. The 'nothing' still has a colour  of course (creamy off-white), and when I print on to a similarly-coloured fine art inkjet paper I get a darker background than the original because I'm effectively finishing up with two lots of background. Is there a way I can make the background a lighter shade that doesn't involve use of one of the selection tools? A link to an appropriate tutorial would be much appreciated.

Go to the Adjustments panel (Window->Adjustments if it's not on screen) and select either Levels or Curves (top row, the two middle icons), select the White Point Eyedropper and click with it on the paper to turn it white.

  • Best practices for organizing a sudden batch of photos?

So, I just got ahold of hundreds (1000+) of slides from my early childhood, years 0-10. Pictures I had never seen before. (Plus 8mm and 16mm movies, reel to reel audio, and some prints.)
I'm going to get a slide scanner and scan some, but not all, of the photos in (I don't care about the vista shots). Have any of you done such an all-at-once type of project? What approach did you use to describe the photos?
How do you ID the people? Make keywords for people, or put names in the comments?
How do you deal with group photos? It would be nice if the names could attached to the faces, so a mouseover revealed the name.
Did you make a note somehwere (e.g., comments) of what box the images came from, when they were developed (since the photo date may not be known), which image no. in the series it was? (So you can find the original again if necessary.)
Do you have any tips to keep this under control?
I'm both excited by this and overwhelmed. I'd rather do it once and do it right. This is part of a bigger project to piece together this period of my life, so the more info I can track, the better.

    switchbacker:
You might consider one of the new flatbed scanners that have the capability of scanning multiple sides at one time. My reasoning for this is that after you're finished with the project you'll end up with a useable piece of equipment instead of a nice doorstop if you get a dedicated slide scanner. That's what I have, a nice doorstop.
I recently got a Canon 8600F scanner that will do 4 slides at a time and put each in their own file after the scan is completed. I'm sure other scanner manufacturers have similar software that will separate multiple images in one scan into their own file. My standalone slide scanner was over 5 times as slow as the Canon scanner on a time per slide basis.
A bonus with the particular Canon scanner that I got was that Photoshop Elements 4 was bundled with it.
As far as organizing the resulting image files I use keywords to identify the elements within a photo, i.e people, places and things. I name the files, before importing into iPhoto, with the date of the photo using the international date format YYYY-MM-DD-001.jpg, -002, jpg, etc. This gives me excellent chronological sorting and searching capability. There are 3rd party applications like R-Name that will batch rename sequentially a folder of photos. Doing this before importing will assure that the original file will be names as you want it instead of something link Scan -01.jpg.
I did the same thing you did, scan about 5000 slides and 5000 photos to document the family history. I created iDVD slideshows for each year breaking the slideshows down by month. My brother had our parents 8 mm movies digitized and I digitized 100 hours of family VHS videos to add to the DVDs also. After burning the iDVD project to disk I would also burn the source files via the Finder to DVD disks and distributed a copy to each of our kids. That gave me multiple backups and gave them a way to preview the family history. My project spans 100+ years from 1906 to 2006 (yes, I'm a couple of years behind because with digital cameras in each of the kid's hands I have so many more photos per year to work with ). The recent years are taking 2-3 DVDs to cover each year. With iDVD it makes it so easy to create a really professional looking DVD. Here are screenshots of an early DVD of VHS videos and a later DVD of slideshows.
    You will have fun!
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    Don't despair, it's doable.

  • Where is the TWAIN plug-in for Photoshop Elements 13?

I just upgraded from PE 12 to PE 13.  Windows 8.1 system.
I did not see an option to import an image using Editor so I looked in the Organizer and found one.  BUT, it only has WIA support for my HP scanner.  And that means limited options when scanning.  With PE12, I had to copy a file from an Optional Plug-ins folder to the Plug-ins folder.  I cannot find an Optional Plug-ins Folder in either Editor or Organizer.  Has support for TWAIN disappeared with PE13?  I do a lot of scanning of my own artwork and the additional options with TWAIN are very useful.
    Thanks for any info.

If you have a 64 bit version of windows, there is no more TWAIN in PSE 13, only in the 32-bit version and the mac version.
