Scanning large files to PDF

What are the limits in Acrobat Pro 9 for scanning in multiple page documents?  Small documents scan just fine, but once I get up around 8-0 or more pages, the whole process hangs.  When I eventually kill the process on my PC it still hangs on to a connection to the scanner, requiring me to kill an HP process or reboot the scanner.  I'm using Windows 7 and an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 scanner.  All drivers and patches are up to date.

We scan using HPs to email and they come out beautiful.  Can you attach an example for us to look at?  And did you check to make sure the sidebars on the copier are straight when you scan?  I know that seems like a dummy question, but I've been supervising scanning for years, and many many people don't think to check that.

  • How do I convert scanned tif file to pdf file?

How do I convert a scanned tif file to a pdf file?

    Hi lauras,
You can use either Adobe PDF Pack or Acrobat to convert that TIFF to PDF. While we don't offer free trials of the subscription products, such as PDF Pack, we do offer a free trial of Acrobat. Please feel free to give it a try--you can download a 30-day trial from the link I included above.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Scanned in file as pdf, but won't open in Acrobat

So I scanned in around 20 pages of work, all as pdf files, and they all open fine in Adobe Reader. However I am trying to open them in Acrobat and it says that there has been an error, that the file has been damaged and cannot be retrieved.
I don't exactly want to re-scan everything, but I'm confused as to why it would open fine in Reader, but not Acrobat. Does anyone have any advice for this?
    Thanks!

Sound like you have an old version of Acrobat and new version of Reader. Apparently the scanner put the PDF in a new version and it is failing the read options of your old Acrobat. At least that is my guess. Try scanning a page directly into Acrobat and I bet it still will not work. In that case, you might consider scanning to TIFF and then opening the TIFF files you get in Acrobat (I typically drag and drop to preserve the order -- Acrobat typically reverses the order). If you post again, try to provide the versions of your software and you might look at the beginning of the PDF in an editor (don't save) to check the version number.

  • How do I scan large black and white documents, creating the smallest file size possible?

I am attempting to scan a 70 page document and prefer it to be a file small enough to send through regular email.  I am not interested in zipfiles, i am not familiar with them.  I have been scanning and converting to .pdf for years, using the lowest dpi reasonable, but my file sizes are still quite large (compared to other .pdf's that are emailed to me).  I know there is a way, just haven't figured it out.

  • How do a scan a file from my scanner and make it a PDF. . . . I do not see this choice in the Adobe program?

How do a scan a file from my scanner and make it a PDF. . . . I do not see this choice in the Adobe program?
In the past I would simply place a copy of the document on my scanner, then selected create PDF from scanner.  However, there is now no create PDF from scanner alternative, option or choice.  The only option available is selected file to convert to PDF.  what am I to do?

That would have been a function of your scanning software. Adobe Reader is only used to view the pdf that your scanning software created.

What kind of software do you use for the conversion to pdf? Adobe Reader can't create pdf files.

    Hi @veerendrajain ,
I see that you would like to save multiple PDF documents into one file. I would like to help you out today.
In the HP Scan Software, select Advanced scan settings, click on the File tab and uncheck Create a separate file for each scanned image.
    Hope this helps.

Is ther some limit to the number of books or total storage used in IBooks?  Thanks....

    Hi jybravo70,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you may be experiencing issues on your non iOS 8 devices because iOS 8 is required to set up or join a Family Sharing group.
The following information is located in the print at the bottom of the article.
Apple - iCloud - Family Sharing
Family Sharing requires a personal Apple ID signed in to iCloud and iTunes. Music, movies, TV shows, and books can be downloaded on up to 10 devices per account, five of which can be computers. iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite are required to set up or join a Family Sharing group and are recommended for full functionality. Not all content is eligible for Family Sharing.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • Creating .pdf from a ppt or .doc in acrobat 9 resulting in strangely large file sizes

I am printing to .pdf from Microsoft Word and Powerpoint (previously Office 07 - now Office 10) and the file sizes are sometimes doubling in size. Also, for some larger documents, multiple .pdfs are generating as if acrobat is choosing where to cut off a document due to large file size and generating secondary, tertiary, etc., docs to continue the .pdf. The documents have placed images (excel charts, etc) but they are not enormous - that is until they are being generated into a .pdf. I had hoped that when i upgraded to Office 10, this issue would go away, but unfortunately, it hasn't. Any ideas? thoughts? Thanks so much!

One thing that can happen with MS Office applications when an image contains transparency is the "image" is actually composed of multiple one pixel images when converted to PDF. This could be confirmed by examining the file. Try selecting the images using the TouchUp Object tool to see if what looks like a single image it entirely selected.

  • CONVERT SCANNED FILE TO PDF AND SEND TO EMAIL!

I got many files that were scanned in (110) to be exact.  I need to know how to convert the scanned files to pdf and then send them to an email.  Thanks      Marie

What is the format (file type) of these scanned docs?

  • Add multiple scans to the same pdf file scan at time of scanning

Hello, HP Officejet Pro 6830 How do I get it to add multiple scans to the same pdf file? I need to scan multiple documents and have them all end up in one pdf. Some may be double-sided and it is fine if I have to scan them individually. At present it will only do one scan or a double-sided scan then it wants to save the scan and not ask if there are any more pages. The only option is to save or not. Thank you.

After your first scan you need to click the + sign at the 7 o'clock position.

  • Why does the Reduced Size PDF command create larger files?

I have been a happy user of Adobe Acrobat vers. 7 until Adobe ceased the support of that version and I was unable to print and do other activities since my last Mac OS vers.10.6.8 update, so I was forced to upgrade to Adobe's Acrobat's X latest version 10.0.0.  I had hope to be able to produce Adobe Acrobat 3D files but found out later that Adobe does not do that anymore and I would have to buy it as a plugin from Tetra 4D for another $399.00, oh well. I then wanted to reduce the file size of some larger pdfs I had edited.  It took a while to locate the command location, now in File>Save>Reduced SizePDF, once I activated the command on my file it actually increased its size!!  Why did this happen?  Should I continue to use my disabled, Adobe unsupported vers 7 to get the superior performance I once had?  This issue was mentioned in an earlier thread that started out as to where to locate this command but the resultant larger file issue remained unanswered.  Currently unhappy on my purchase.  Will Adobe offer a free upgrade to fix this?

I agree with Peter. Use Pages '09, but keep a document migration strategy present. When you create a Pages document in Pages '09, export it to Word .doc too. Export any current content in Pages v5.2.2, and then stop using it. That means no double-clicked documents.
Pages v5 is not an evolution of Pages '09 — it is an incomplete rewrite, and uses a different, internal document architecture than did Pages '09. This internal architecture is to blame for the export translation bloat into Word's different document architecture. It does not matter whether you type a single character, or multiple pages, you will get about a 500Kb .docx file.
Opening, and resaving this monster .docx file in MS Word in Office for Mac 2011, LibreOffice, or TextEdit will result in a very small .docx footprint.
