Scanning Software With Advanced Features

I am looking for a scanning software package that has more advanced features compared to the scanning software package included with my all in one.  I have looked for a more advanced scanning software package on the software CD included with the all in one as well as on the HP web site and have not found anything.
Does HP make a more advanced scanning software package than the one inclulded with the all in one?  I am thinking of a program that is similar to VueScan from Hamrick Software.  I might just have to shell out the money if HP does not make a nicer scanning program.
Thanks.

Hello @jerryheilman,
Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I understand you are interested in a Scanning program that offers more options then what is available with the HP Software that was included with your HP Officejet Pro 8610. Unfortunately HP does not have anything like that available.
I was able to Google 3rd party Scanning software and there were many options, I guess it depends on what it is you are interested in doing.

  • Scanning software for OJ8610 is less than stellar.

    The problem is I have extremely limited control over the scan using the 8610 software. I have had a chat - installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, (both 64 and 32 bit versions) - nothing is resolving the issue. The chat has been "escalated" and I will be contacted in 24-48 hours - I'm not that patient.
    Bottom line: is the cheesy scanning software really the only thing available these days? If so, Where can I find software comparable to what was available with OJ6310?

    Hi ImNotLisaTX,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
    I see that you are looking for scanning software with your HP Officejet 8610, and I am happy to help you!
    Please see this drivers website, HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer Drivers, as this is the only scanning software available for your printer. Please make sure you are downloading the Full Feature Software and Drivers, for your Operating System. If you do not know what Operating System you are using please visit this website. Whatsmyos
    Hope this answers your question, and have a great day!

  • Scanning software to work with CS6 and Mountain Lion

    Since I upgrading my Mac to OS Mountain Lion 10.8 and downloaded Adobe CS 6 I have been unable to get my Epson Scanner to work properly. Since none of the drivers from the Epson and Adobe websites have worked so that I could scan from photoshop, I am looking into using third party software. Adobe mentioned VueScan in their instructions, but it is expensive and I don't like how it is laid out. It appears that SilverFast only works with 32 bit not the 64 required in CS6.
    Has anyone else found scanning software that worked for them?
    Or does anyone have an idea of getting the Epson software to work on my machine?
    The scanner is an Epson Perfection v600 photo scanner, which is still being sold currently as something that works with new computers.

    I have a scanner. I am trying to get a driver or new scanner software to work with it. Someone in a different discussion pointed out an article in MacWorld that goes into why this is not working.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1168305/get_your_scanner_to_work_with_photoshop_cs6.html
    I would still be interested to know if anyone has had a positive experience with third party scanning sofware. Vue scan? Silverfast?
    Also to the Adobe staff :
    This is quoted from the MacWorld article.
    Right now, if users are running Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8), they will not be able to scan into Photoshop CS6 as described. According to Adobe, this is an across-the-board problem with the Cocoa classes comprising the scanning interface that it is using in Photoshop. It is neither a user nor a scanner manufacturer issue.
    Adobe is aware of the problem, has identified it as an Apple OS issue that they are working with Apple to solve, and offer no time frame for when it will be fixed. "
    Any idea on the timeframe or if there will be an anouncement when this is resolved?

  • Document scanning software that allows for custom search fields, attaching a thumbnail to the scanned document file, and works with any scanner?

    I am a professional photographer, with years of paper model releases. I would like to find a document scanning software that works with my exisiting flatbed scanner (Canon MP250) that I can customize the seach fields for (ie. name, agency, job, etc.) and also attach a thumbnail image to as a job reference. I would like the document to be searchable as well. I've looked at a few different document scanning software companies, but I haven't found one that allows me to attach a jpeg file to a scanned PDF. Does anyone know if software like this exists?

    You can't do better than to use VueScan:

  • Is there a virus scan software that interacts with iMS 5

    We need to install a virus scan software on the iMS5 server that we already have.
    All the research that I did would give us a virus scan software where incoming emails have to flow through before entering the messaging server. However , this is not what we need.
    What I am looking for is for the messages to go directly into the messaging server, get scaned (or sent to be scaned) by the virus scanner and then delivered to the user mailbox (in case it is clean of course).
    Anyone of you guys knows about such a solution?
    Thanks for your assistance.

    This can be done easily. You will need a virus scanner that works from the command line on the platform you're using.
    You'll integrate this with the MTA using the conversion channel. I do not know the size of your environment, but best practices says not to put the virus scanning on the message store system. (I'm used to doing systems to support 1M users and up.) For example at home I'm put everything on a single machine, you'll have to find the best place for your situation. Experience says that the conversion channel will add about 20% utilization to your system.
    Here are some example entries for a conversions file on a unix based system.
    in-channel=*; in-type=application; in-subtype=*;
    parameter-symbol-0=NAME; parameter-copy-0=*;
    dparameter-symbol-0=FILENAME; dparameter-copy-0=*;
    message-header-file=2; original-header-file=1;
    override-header-file=1; override-option-file=1;
    command="<your-script-here>"
    in-channel=*; in-type=image; in-subtype=*;
    parameter-symbol-0=NAME; parameter-copy-0=*;
    dparameter-symbol-0=FILENAME; dparameter-copy-0=*;
    message-header-file=2; original-header-file=1;
    override-header-file=1; override-option-file=1;
    command="<your-script-here>"
    in-channel=*; in-type=video; in-subtype=*;
    parameter-symbol-0=NAME; parameter-copy-0=*;
    dparameter-symbol-0=FILENAME; dparameter-copy-0=*;
    message-header-file=2; original-header-file=1;
    override-header-file=1; override-option-file=1;
    command="<your-script-here>"
    in-channel=*; in-type=audio; in-subtype=*;
    parameter-symbol-0=NAME; parameter-copy-0=*;
    dparameter-symbol-0=FILENAME; dparameter-copy-0=*;
    message-header-file=2; original-header-file=1;
    override-header-file=1; override-option-file=1;
    command="<your-script-here>"
    You could check the mail archives for the info-pmdf mailing list for more examples and possibly even an example shell script.

  • I have lost my Silverfast scanning software since downloading Lion. Lion is proving a nightmare - particularly as I was originally told it would work with Silverfast. I also cannot use my Epson 2100 printer. Not a very pro ufgrade Apple. Anyone help?

    Can not use Silverfast scanning technology or my Epson 2100 Colour Stylus printer since upgrading to Mac OS X Lion. I had been assured that Silverfast would work and had no idea the printer would become redundent! Not Good information from Apple!! Anyone out there help?

    Hi, Peter;
    The culprit is Silverfast.
    The company went as far as telling owners and new customers back in March that their software would work with Lion ("buy Silverfast version 6.6 now, and get a free upgrade to Version 8 when it we release it in late August!").  Days after Lion came out, the German software maker issued a statement that their current version is NOT compatible with Lion (knocking all of their Mac customers out of the scanning business until the newer, functional Silverfast version is ready.)
    On the company's owners-only discussion groups, Mac customers have expressed outrage that manufacturer Lasersoft was not clearer on this meltdown in the making.  Users have either had to re-install Snow Leopard, stop scanning for the next several weeks, or buy, install and learn different scanning software.
    Lasersoft has even "re-written history"; pulling earlier press coverage (which claimed their software would work with Lion) and "clarifying" that the Version 8 software (which they say will work with Lion) will be available for purchase sometime next month.  The moderator has actually censored or deleted entries offering the name of rival VueSoft (which is Lion compatible), and has removed posts from dissatisfied customers.
    Lasersoft discussion groups are amusingly Orwellian right now, with counter accusations hurled at customers who are just trying to get their software to work. Company spokesmen are issuing clumsily-worded taunts instead of apologies or simple damage control language.  UPDATE: the company has now removed some of their own more uncaring responses to users, but there is still some funny reading there.
    The whole episode begs the question of what Lasersoft was doing between spring and fall of this year when they should have been preparing a more seamless transition to Lion.  New customers who purchased the pricey Silverfast software in March are doubly out of luck-- the “free upgrade”  to Lion-compatible version 8 only applies to purchases made after June first.

    Hi
    I would trash - iMovie pref file - and re-try - sounds like this got faulty.
    • Delete iMovie pref. file. iMovie pref. file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD) / Users / "Your account" / Library / Preferences
    and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    com.apple.iMovie9.plist
    com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
    While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
    ( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library (exactly like this - space included)
    Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )

It seems to me that the downloads of drivers and softwares are only the light version of scanning software whereas; 1. there is no toolbar wh about help to see which version of scanning software is installed. 2. The orginal setup has a full version of scanning software.My xp box died xmas and since 2010 I setup the prnt drvs/scan software and I never though this would be a problem if I had to setup again using the downloads from HP. Thank you in advance!

    Hi,
    The original CD is not intended for Windows 7, however you may download the software for Windows 7 below:

  • Hp Scanjet 8270 scanning software keeps giving an error and closes

    I have had my HP Scanjet 8270 for several years and works great. I recently reloaded my hard drive and as usual I go to the HP website and download the HP Scanjet Full Feature Software and Driver. Everything installs fine and says drivers were installed successfully.
    When I open HP Scanning (8200) series shortcut I can select the type of scan I want and hit scan. Then I get the Save to file save options box and click OK. Then the scanning preview box comes up and then after a few seconds I get the error
    "HP Scan Application Resources has Stopped Working." Then is gives a button to close program.
    Then an error box comes up and says "An error occurred with the HP scanning application. Try the following steps. After each step, try scanning again.
    -restart the program
    -reboot the computer
    -Reinstall the HP Photosmart software that came with the device.
    Then at the bottom it says:
    Show extended error information. When I click on it it gives me:
    8, [ (4, 0, -2147023170) ]
    The steps I have taken to resolve the problem :
    I have restarted the software many times.
    I have rebooted many times.
    I have reinstalled the software many times.
    I have run the HP Print and Scan doctor many times and it finds nothing wrong.
    However, when I go to Devices & Printers and click on the scanner I can scan fine through there. Although it does not let me do anything fancy such as scan to pdf which is very important for me.
    I have read many forums and tried several things from them to no success.
    I did read somewhere that you need to go to msconfig and starup tab and look to see if the Digital Imaging monitor is running  and it is not. I would assume that is downloaded with the software and re-downloading does not do any good.
    Pleas help I'm in serious need of using my scanner. Thanks.

    We had the same EXACT problem, but i have found a solution!
     Unplug the scanner
    remove the following
    1. HP OCR Software 9.0
    2. HP Scanjet G4000 series 9.0
    3. HP Solution Center 9.0
    4. HP Update
    then restart
     Download the following ( it is the NEW updated full programs with driver)
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software8/COL17370/sj-50004-1/setup_full_G4000.exe
    During installing, select "Advanced" and “Custom” installation
    At beginning of the installation, it gives you to 2 options
    I) Yes, Check for updates
    II) No, I prefer to do it myself--Select this option and click on next
    Immediately in the next window, you will have long list of software with the
    empty check boxes beside them. DO NOT select (check) Hp update, check rest of
    them and click on next to continue the installation.
    During the installation process it asks to connect the scanner to the computer,
    now connect the scanner to the rear end USB port of the computer and click on Ok
    to continue the installation.
    Worked perfectly for us!( thank god it was going out the window )
    Hope this helps everyone

  • Small scanning software?

    Hi everyone,
    I have the LaserJet M1132 MFP All-in-one system but I never used it for scanning, just for printing and copying, because i had another compact scanner. So I only had the driver installed on my computer so that they could communicate while printing. But I'm now getting rid of that scanner and I need a small, compatible scanning software that I could use for scanning with my 1132. And I don't want to use the huge 212 MB MFP full solution. I'm not a fan of these fancy looking, slow programs for users who don't know how to use computers. I want a small, simple program with all the scanning settings (like the resolution, save directory, size etc.) on one screen.. any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Lukas

    View Solution.

    Welcome to the HP Forums luky,
    I see by your post that you would like to be able to scan with small compatible scanning software.
    I can help you with this.
    As long as the scanning drivers are already installed on the computer through the setup, you can use the Windows scanning software on the computer or a third party software.
    Here is a document for how to Scan.
    Select your operating system and How to scan without HP software.
    If you want to be able to edit the scans and save them as PDF files, you will need to use the HP software for these features.
    Have a nice day!
