Scanning to multipage format

Just got a new scan/print/fax, an HP6180. Is there a way to scan several pages into a multipage PDF or JPG file? (Hopefully without having to invest in Acrobat....)?

Vuescan has a feature to save as TIFF multipage:
http://hamrick.com/vsm.html
Vuescan does cost $50, but is very flexible and makes high quality scans.
You can also use the Preview "Open" menu to navigate to a folder of JPGs and Preview will create a multipage PDF of the folder.

How can I highlight text in a document scanned in a pdf format?

If it wasn't OCRed in Acrobat then you can only use the non-text commenting tools, like the Square or Polygon. Press Ctrl+E to open the Properties bad and you could make it look like a text highlight annotation.

I recently had to re-install HP director which I use with my HP7300 Printer for scanning etc. I have now found that when scanning a document the only format that the sftware will allow me to save the scan as is Tiff (or Tiff compressed) previously I was able to save in PDF format. How can I restore this????

    Hi george1946,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are unable to scan PDF files, you use to be able to now when you try the only option you are given is to save as a Tiff file. To better help you I need the following information:
    1. What is t he Exact model of HP Printer you are using?
    2. What is your current Operating system, Windows or Mac and which version?
    3. Did you recently upgrade your OS or have any updates go through?
I will watch for your reply, so we can begin troubleshooting.

  • Scan and file format converting

    Hello all,
I was given a challenge to find a way to scan documents (in PDF or JPG) from office's copy machine, then save them in a library and from that point, the user should be able to do the following:
    a. Crop the image
    b. Resize the image
    c. Convert PDF, JPG, BMP and TIFF, between these formats
    d. Merge images to one PDF file
    e. Split PDF pages to images
Is there any ready 3rd party solution, or someone guide me how should I provide such solution, if possible? We would like to avoid outside the SharePoint 2013 solution.

The cropping and resizing is probably better done on the scanner, and a lot of third party systems will allow you to do that. They also interface with SharePoint, including metadata etc.
Likewise, merging and splitting of documents may also be better done outside of SharePoint unless you're prepared to use custom code as these aren't standard functionality in SharePoint.
I'd take a look at Kofax (http://www.kofax.com/) as they may have the functionality you require.. (Fujitsu and Canon also have specific software for their owner Multi purpose machines, so I would speak to your hardware
provider for your scanner and ask what SharePoint integration options they offer.)

  • My scan disk isnt formatted for my macbook pro, how can i open it?

Does anyone know how to open a windows formatted flash drive on macbook pro? Nothing I tried worked! It contains an important conference I

Take the drive to a PC, it likely will work just fine.
Copy the data to the PC, then right click and format the flash drive exFAT in Windows
(if XP exFAT is a free install from Microsoft)
Then place the data back on and try again on the Mac.

  • Does aperture invert B&W negative film scan files (raw format)?

    hi, I'm new to aperture.
I need it mainly to fix the luminance levels to my raw files that I get scanning my negative B&W films.
obviously I need to invert them befor fixing the levels, can apeture do that or I need to use an external application or my scanning software (vuescan).
would be great to use aperture because doing so would speed-up my scanning workflow.

I second that. Vuescan will give you much better control over the final product than almost any other scanner software. You can find it here:
    http://www.hamrick.com/
Which reminds me, that I probably need to get the latest version! It has been a while since I upgraded.
You can install it and try it for free - it will watermark your images until you pay.

  • OfficeJet Pro L7780 won't scan in PDF format

I have an OfficeJet Pro L7780 that HP sent me after giving up on fixing a 7310xi. I installed the software an received a "fatal error" message about error code 2203. It went ahead and installed OK - I thought. I even went to www.hp.com/support and searched for that error code. From what I gathered, it had something to do with registering it....so I didn't download their fix. After the installation finished, I went into the scan settings because I do scan quite a bit. I discovered that the PDF file option was not listed in the document scan settings. Only BMP, JPG, TIF, PNG, PCX and FPX are listed, which are, indeed, the file types that are available in the picture scan settings. It's as though the software loaded the same file types in both the document and picture scan settings.
I'm wondering now if the fatal error message actually related to this problem.
Any advice....short of uninstalling the entire package and starting over again?
    Thanks....

    DexterM,
    Thanks for the speedy reply.
Yes, I do have Adobe Acrobat installed on my PC (It's a new Dell with all the bells and whistles). The error message was short and sweet, as I described in my original post.
Since posting that message, I have, in fact, uninstalled and reinstalled the software on my PC - same results. The only file types available in the scan document setup are the same ones in the scan picture setup. Also, the second time I installed it, I did not get that fatal error message. Lastly, I've installed the same software on three laptops in my house (all networked) and got the same results (no PDF file option in the scan document setup).
I'm stumped and I really dread talking to Mumbai to try to resolve this.

  • Problem in Using scanned .pdf format files

I have an old (5-6 years old) Canon N670U flat bed scanner.  I use it for scanning books of my interest.  It can give each page/document  scan in pdf format directly.  However each scan becomes a separate file lthough serially numbered while scanning.  When I want to read the pages, Next/Previous page or pages Up/Down etc. - reader tools available in Acrobat Reader are not operative.
I need to go back to each scan file separately.  Also, most of the time, image needs to be rotated.  Though I do it in view mode, it does not get saved in corrected mode-even if I go to "file" and click on "save as".  At each fresh visit, this has to be repeated.
Present driver of the scanner is version 4. I did get your version 7 downloaded.  But could not install & use it.  Is it necessary that old version first must be uninstalled and only then I can install the new version?  Is it not automatic?  It might have to copy new and remove old software files.
What should be done that all these individual files (of a single bok) can be combined into a single meaningful folder, with availability/access to all Adobe Reader Tools.  Will be grateful for advice..

This needs to be done during the scanning process, using your CanoScan software.  Once the file is saved unrotated, you will need some additional software to do that (Acrobat), so better do it during the scanning process.
Use the Rotate clockwise / counterclockwise buttons on your scanning software.

I have scanned photos using an Epson V500 scanner set to scan using jpeg format at the highest quality (least compression) setting.  When I try to import the scanned jpegs into iPhoto, I get an error message from iPhoto saying "The file is an unrecognized format."  But if I reduce the quality setting on the Epson scanner to just slightly below highest quality, the images import into iPhoto just fine.  Why won't iPhoto accept jpegs scanned at the highest quality setting?  Wondering?

What scanner format settings dis you use?  Are these color photos? If they are B/W did you scan as grayscale images?  That could be the problem.
Are you able to open them with Preview?  If so do a Save As, select full quality and save as a jpeg with a new file name.  See if that file will import and work as intended.

  • How do I scan multiple documents to a single pdf from the ADF on my MX922?

How do I scan multiple documents to a single pdf from the ADF on my MX922?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Riceburner1,
Since you have had difficulty scanning using My Image Garden, you can scan using the IJ Scan Utility program that also comes with the printer.  To do this, please follow these steps:
    1. Place the documents in the ADF or on the platen glass of the printer.
    2. Start the IJ Scan Utility.
        For Windows 8.1:
        1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key.
        2. Start typing IJ SCAN UTILITY. The search window opens as you type. Once the IJ SCAN UTILITY is displayed, please select and open it, then continue with Step 3 below.
        For Windows XP:
        1. Go to your START MENU, then select ALL PROGRAMS, then CANON UTILITIES, then the IJ SCAN UTILITY program.
        2. In the Canon IJ Scan Utility window that opens, click SETTINGS.... in the bottom right of the window. The Settings dialog box appears. Please continue with Step 3 below.
    3. In the Canon IJ Scan Utility window that opens, click SETTINGS.... in the bottom right of the window. The Settings dialog box appears.
    4. Click the DOCUMENT SCAN option on the left pane of the window. In the Select Source field of the Scan Options section, select DOCUMENT (ADF/PLATEN) to scan items placed directly on the platen glass, DOCUMENT (ADF SIMPLEX) to perform single-sided scanning from the ADF, or DOCUMENT (ADF DUPLEX) to perform double-sided scanning using the ADF. You can then set the item size, resolution, etc. in the Scan Options section as desired.
    5. In the SAVE SETTINGS section of the window, you will select the save format and location of the document you are about to scan.
a.) In the FILE NAME field, specify the name you would like to give the file. By default the filename will begin with IMG; you can remove IMG and change it to whatever you would like to name the file.  Please note that the filename that you give the document here will be the default filename for all items scanned until you change the file name.  If you leave the file name the same in the field, the scanned item will have a sequential number appended to the end of whatever name you give it.
b.) In the DATA FORMAT field, use the drop-down arrow to select the desired option. If you are scanning a multipage document, select the PDF (Multiple Pages) option.
c.) In the SAVE IN field, please navigate to the area where you would like the file to be saved once it is scanned in. By default, the file will be saved in the MY DOCUMENTS folder.
    6.  In the APPLICATION SETTINGS section of the window, please select the DO NOT START ANY APPLICATION option.
    7. Once all settings have been selected, click the OK button at the bottom of the SETTINGS (DOCUMENT SCAN) window. The IJ Scan Utility main screen appears.
    8. Click the DOCUMENT button. Scanning starts. Click the CANCEL button to cancel scanning if needed.   Once the scan is completed, scanned images are saved in the previously selected folder location specified in the SETTINGS... window.
    Hope this helps!

  • Can't scan from M1536dnf after reformatting computers

After formatting two computers in our office they can no longer scan from our M1536dnf, which is connected via Ethernet to our local network. The error message says "Scanner communication cannot be established. Ensure your product is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly. If these conditions are correct, restart the product and try scanning again."
They could scan before being formatted and all other computers in the office can still scan documents. They Operating system wasn't changed (they were running Windows 7 before and are running Windows 7 now, the same as all the other computers in our office). I've tried updating the firmware on the I've tried version 4.3 of the HP Print and Scan Doctor and it says there's a Windows (WIA) scan error. I've tried what it recommends, which is completely uninstalling the software, rebooting, and reinstalling everything with the most current full feature software version. I've tried turning off and on everything involved (printer, computers, network gear, everything). I've checked that the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is set to Automatic. I've tried disabling the built-in Windows Firewall and we're not using any antivirus software nor any firewalls on the local Ethernet switch. I've tried manually specifing an IP address, which does not conflict with any other IP addresses on the network. Throughout all of this I can still print from these two computers and other machines in the office can print & scan just fine. We have another older scanner in the office and these two computers can still scan using that one but it doesn't have as many features. The HP ToolboxFX still works from these two computers.
I'm completely out of ideas on how to fix this. It's especially annoying since it was working before & continues to work on the other computers in the office. Any clues on what I should try next?
