Scanning to my iMac

I have a HP Photosmart printer which is wireless.  I can print to my printer from my IMAC but I cant scan to my IMAC from my printer.  Any ideas??  Easy Instructions please no technical jargon.

I'll second Image Capture, been using it for years with different scanners and all-in-one printers.
If you put an Image Capture shortcut on your dock, it is way faster than looking for and fumbling around with other scanware.

My email was hacked once, but it had nothing to do with my iMac. I changed my password on my email server (I was with a cable internet provider, changed the password there) and had no more problems.

  • Where do I find the virus scan on my iMac?

Where do I find the virus scan on my iMac?

Read the sticky at the top of this page.
It got past your virus protection because your virus protection is garbage. Uninstall it.
And, there are no OS X viruses. Malware yes, but no viruses. You downloaded and installed the Trojan by choice. Trojans trick people into installing.

EDIT: Oops, duplication. I see Babowa has already given the link.
Stay far away from Norton. It has a bad history of wrecking Macs. If you want to run anything, get ClamXav or Sophos Home Edition, free. Never run Sophos after the first scan except in "On Demand" mode. Both free.

  • My HP Deskjet 3070A no longer scans on my iMac.

I use OSX 10.9.3 Mavericks. Can you help as I need this facility for my work and jobs are piling up? Many thanks.

Hi there Ben-e-bow! Welcome to the forums
I saw your post about how you are unable to scan to your iMac from your Deskjet 3070A.
I would first suggest making sure you can copy successfully. If the copies work, you are good to carry on with these steps:
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Re-add the printer (do not use the AirPrint driver)
    Test scan
    I hope that helps!

  • Enabling Scanning to an iMac

I have an HP Photosmart 6510 printer which I use for wireless printing and scanning from my iMAc. It worked fine previously with the iMAC and I have no trouble printing to or scanning from my windows machine now.
I recently upgraded to Yosemite on my iMac. When I try to scan, I get a message that scanning is not enabled. When I go to the printer webpage To try to enable scanning, I get a message that I need to "log in to area "Admin" on hpfc4632.local.:80".
It asks for name and password. I have no idea what is being requested - something for the printer or the iMAC? I have tried my iMac names and passwords to no avail. I am not sure what else is needed.
Can anyone or lend a hand?

    Hi Barry (@Barfar),
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I believe I can help you find another way to enable scan to computer on your Mac running OS X 10.10
Under the FAQ section of this Scanning with the Full Feature HP Software in OS X v10.10 Yosemite document, under Why is my printer not scanning to the computer from the control panel, it will explain another way to enable scan to computer. Are you now able to scan without issue? If not, did the error change at all?
Hope to hear from you soon!

  • I can't scan to my iMac

I have installed printer drivers for my Brother printer and I can print ok but for some reason the printer will not connect to my iMac to scan. Never had this problem with my PC. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Can you provide more information about which iMac you have, the version of Mac OS X, and the model of the Brother printer you are using? Have you installed all of the available software updates including those provided by Brother?
I use a Brother laser printer to scan documents without any issues, although instead of using the Brother software I have begun to use the scan features accessible from the Print & Scan System Preferences (I'm assuming you are running Lion since your profile doesn't say). After opening the Print & Scan System Preferences click on your printer in the Printers column, then click on the Scan button on the right side of the window. Specify whether you are scanning from the document feeder or the flatbed, then click on the Overview button to do a pre-scan. I have been quite satisfied scanning this way.

  • Create a dvd from scan photos on iMac

Is it possible to create a movie on (DVD) from scan photos? And will it be compatible to play on a PC?

You can create an automatically advancing, with some fading and sliding effects, slideshow of your scanned Photos in the app "iPhoto" on a DVD on your iMac.

  • I was told I needed to run a virus scan before being allowed to reinstate my facebook account. What is the best way for me to download a free, but 100% safe virus scan for my iMac?

Is there a virus scan download from Apple.com that I should use to clear my iMac before I download the latest update to Mevericks and get a clear slate to reactivate my facebook account? Thank you.

You may have been the victim of a potential scam or responded to a pop-up trying to sell anti-virus software.
How on earth would Facebook know you have a virus - not least because there are no viruses that can affect OS X.
There are many forms of ‘Malware’ that can affect a computer system, of which ‘a virus’ is but one type, ‘trojans’ another. Using the strict definition of a computer virus, no viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions. The same is not true of other forms of malware, such as Trojans. Whilst it is a fairly safe bet that your Mac will NOT be infected by a virus, it may have other security-related problem, but more likely a technical problem unrelated to any malware threat.
You may find this User Tip on Viruses, Trojan Detection and Removal, as well as general Internet Security and Privacy, useful: The User Tip seeks to offer guidance on the main security threats and how to avoid them.

  • HOW DO I GET MY BROTHER PRINTER/SCANNER TO SCAN TO MY IMAC. IT WILL NO LONGER RECOGNIZE THE IMAC

I have previously been able to scan from my MFC-J67100W to my iMac. It goes to "connecting to PC" and after a couple of minutes quits. Is there a scan option on the PC itself?

I'd say use Image Capture (part of OS X) or VueScan http://www.hamrick.com/

  • I'm having a "Scanner communication cannot be established" error when trying to scan to my iMac.

    Hi,
I have an HP OfficeJet 6700 Premium printer connected via wireless to my iMac running the latest version of OS X Lion. I can print with no problems but when I try to scan using HP Scan 3 I get the "Scanner communication cannot be established" error plus the following additional information...
"HP Officejet 6700 is currently unavailable. Ensure your device is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly. If these conditions are correct, restart the device and try scanning again"
Scan to Computer in HP Utility is enabled and other features as well and they work fine but when I use HP Scan 3 to scan there's no way I could get it to work. I tried rebooting my iMac and the printer. Also I have the latest drivers and firmware installed.  Please advice.
    Yours,
    Ramón

Is the HP software on your Mac the right version for Lion?
    Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
Try scanning from Image Capture in your Applications folder.  Select your scanner on the left, then click "Show Details" and finally "Overview" to start the process.

  • C510a can't scan on new iMac running Yosemite 10.10.2

I recently setup a new iMac using a backup of an older iMac, both running Yosemite 10.10.2 and my HP Scan 3 software no longer works.
In an attempt to resolve the issue on my own, I followed instructions to remove all the old HP software and reinstall. Unfortunately the HP website does not have scan software downloads for my unit, so I have no software to prompt the device to scan.
After reading through many threads on this site, I have added the printer via System Preferences and have seen the "Open Scanner" button/prompt, but when I click on it, I see a pop up window and the message "An error occurred while communicating with the scanner."
At this point, I'm not sure where to go next. Any suggestions on how to resolve these problems?

Restarted the unit. Was prompted to update software and it downloaded all the necessary programs/drivers. Go figure.
