Scanning with Canon's MP520 in Leopard

Hi folks,
I bought a multifunction Canon MP520 from a local apple store and have not had any issues printing with it or copying. I have been unable to scan, however, since the Canon scanner application crashes every time.
I got Canon guys on the phone and they suggested that I delete all their drivers and install new ones directly from their website, which I did with them on the phone. When I attempted to scan, however, the Canon Navigator icon moves up and down in the dock, the disappears and a crash report shows up. I've been able to copy, so I know it's not the hardware issue. Posting the crash report below. Anyone know how to fix this?
BY THE WAY - it's probably worth mentioning that this issue persists both on - my Power Mac G5 and on the MacBook Pro, both running Leopard.
Thanks!

I decided to use Apple's Image Capture for scanning, rather than Canon's MP Navigator, and all works well!

After a software update Safari 10.6.8 I cannot scan with Canon MP 470

  • Scan with canon MP520?

Bought a new MacBook 2.2GHz and a Canon multifunction printer for a rebate deal. I love both but am having trouble getting anything to scan properly. I have it hooked up to a new airport extreme 802.11n base station. It prints and copies perfectly, just won't scan. Has anybody been able to scan with this or any Canon multifunction?

  • Using Image Capture to scan with Canon Pixma MX700

I previously had trouble connecting my Canon Pixma MX700 to my MBP, but soon figured out that I needed a new high speed USB 2.0 cable, versus the old one I was trying to use it with. Doh!
So now it prints without any trouble at all, and I know that all its features - printing, scanning, fax, copier, are supposed to be compatible with Leopard.
However, I'm still having issues scanning. I Googled and found a comment somewhere that with this specific model, one has to use Image Capture for the scanning portion, instead of the Canon software.
Great, so that explained the problem I was having trying to figure out how to GET it to communicate at all with the MBP (downloaded the latest scanner driver from Canon with no result).
But it still will not scan with Image Capture. Communication is fine- the image is detected and I can see it perfectly in the Image Capture window, am able to change options, etc. Once I drag and select the image I want to scan and click the scan button, nothing happens. Or more specifically, the button will be click-able and for about two seconds it appears to be working (with the scan button substituted by a cancel button), but then the scan button will pop back up and nothing appears in the folder I specified the image to be saved to.
Now I'm completely stumped. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!!!

With my MacBook running Leopard, I had been able to successfully scan multiple images by pressing the MX7000 scan button and capturing the images with MP Navigator. The MX700 is networked over WiFi. Early on, I learned that it seemed to be more reliable to drive this process using the scan button, rather than trying to initiate the scan from the MP Navigator UI.
However, recently things stopped working, and after the first image was scanned, subsequent scans would fail, with MP Navigator complaining about not being able to connect to the scanner. This sounds similar to the problem described in the original posting.
I went to the Canon USA support site and downloaded /installed the latest versions of the MX700 scan driver (13.9.0) and MP Navigator (1.0.4), both available under the "Drivers and Downloads" section for the MX700 support page (be sure to select "Mac OS X" from the pull-down menu).
    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDeta ilTabAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=15651#DownloadDetailAct
The new updates seem to have solved the problem, and I can now scan multiple images one after the other. Again, I always initiate the scan from the button on the MX700, and always capture using MP Navigator, which has the really nice feature for creating and editing multi-page PDFs.

  • Can No Longer Scan With Canon MG5220 But Printing Works Fine

    Hello,
I have not had luck with Canon so hoping my Apple community can come through for me   Here is my problem.  I have a Canon MG5220 "all-in-one" that I am able to print to just fine.  I was able to scan a year ago but something has changed and I am no longer able to scan.  I have all the Canon software and the error I get is as follows when using MP Navigator 4.0 EX:
"Error 2.10 -  Cannot communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected or scanner is turned off. Check status."
I have deleted and re-added my printer several times but that has not done anything.  I believe there was a time in the past when it was scanning properly that I had a separate printer icon under "Printers" on left of  "Print and Scan" sscreen for the scanner but not sure (can someone confirm?).  Regardless, I only have one now.
My printer is connected as follows: MG5220 is wireless to my FiOS Actiontec router and then hardwired Ethernet to iMac. I have turned Wi-Fi status on and off o Mac and that has not made a difference.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    epie

Open Finder and navigate to Applications > Canon Utilities > IJ Network Scanner Selector EX and open the Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX utility. This utility will search your local network for the MG5220 and if found, should show something like below.
If the MG5220 is found, ensure that it is selected - as opposed to "Do Not Use" - and then press the OK button.
Now open MP Navigator and select the Preferences (as shown below)
From the Preferences window, with the General tab selected, ensure you have the MP5200 Series Network set as shown below (which is for my wireless MG6250).
If it is set, press the OK button to close the Preferences window and then see if you can scan.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Crashes When Scanning with Canon DR-4010C Native Interface

When doing a custom scan in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.2, I need to be able to show the Canon DR-4010C native interface so that it will auto-crop when I am scanning small documents such as receipts, etc.  I have another model scanner that does it automatically (a Canon Dr-2510C) but I need that same functionality when I scan with the 4010.  I can see the setting when I configure Adobe to use the scanner's native interface however when I choose "auto detection" on the size (in the scanner's interface) and press scan, Adobe immediately crashes.  Please help!

Also, your log says: Acrobat.exe, version: 9.0.0.332
Looks like you have not updated Acrobat after install. The current version is 9.4.6. Also try updating Acrobat, Help->Check for updates

  • Scanning with Canon MP500 over airport extreme to imac

I'm trying to scan wirelessly, but it doesn't seem to work, I can print just fine. I downloaded all the software and the new drivers from canon's website, but still nothing. I read that airport can't handle a signal the opposite way so it can't scan if anyone knows if it can or can't be done let me know.

Sorry, but the USB port on the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) does not support the advanced functions (scanning, copying, faxing, etc.) of multifunction printers.

  • Canon MP 610 : no scanning with Leopoard

As soon as Leopard is installed Canon MP610 no longer scans and YES! there will be updates but it is still up to the Apple user to check every day on the Canon websites (US and Canada) to see if updates are available.
It would be too much for Canon to send an email to all registered Canon owners to inform them that the drivers (and all updates) are available with a link to go to their website for immediate downloads.
Excellent printer, such poor customer service....
"Thank you for your E-mail inquiry regarding the Canon PIXMA MP610.
Mac OS X version 10.5 drivers are currently not available for this product. If drivers are made available, they will be posted on our website under the downloads section. We suggest visiting our website periodically to see if Mac OS X version 10.5 have been released for your model."
    How nice.....
    Alain

It's so easy to point the finger at the vendor now but did you check with Canon first before loading Leopard to ensure that your AIO was going to work? My bet is that you didn't as most people don't. You all rush in and load the "latest and greatest' and then blame everyone else when things go wrong. This same problem occurred when Tiger was released and it will happen again when all the 10.5 updates get rolled out and when 10.6 becomes the best OS ever.
As consumers we need to be more careful. Always check before installing something new and ensure you have backups when things do go wrong.
With regards to your MP610, the current version of ScanGear (v13.4.0) does work with Leopard however this is an issue with multiple page scanning. The new version, 13.9.0, is due for release at the end of November.

  • Scanning with Snow Leopard

HP Scanner will not initialise with Snow Leopard using iMac or MacBook Pro.
A work around has been found.
Insert a memory stick into the front of the all-in-one HP. I used a 64MB in the MS/DUO slot.
Press scan menu. Select the option--Scan To Memory Card.
Printer should already be connected via USB to the computer.
This should open iPhotos on the computer.
Once the scan is complete, select Import All on the bottom right of iPhotos.
After that the option becomes available to email. Select full size.
The computer then opens client email with the scanned image prepared to email.
Note: Printer function is not affected with the upgrade to Snow Leopard; it is just the scanner which will not initialise.

Thanks. Since it isn't listed at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10216682#10216682 your work-around might be the only option until it gets included. You might post a query to that thread WRT to the C4100 series machines. The new HP Scan app that comes with my C4200 series machine works.

  • Scanning problems with Canon Pixma 5300 series after upgrading to newest Macbook Pro

Are there drivers available for Canon pixma 5300 series for OS X Mavericks 10.9?
Scanning with my brand new Macbook pro using  OS X 10.9 just isn't working like it used to with my old white Macbook.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have an MG53xx? If so, then a scanner driver for this model is available from Apple so that you can scan with Image Capture / Preview. So if you open Printers and Scanners and select the MG53xx, you should have two tabs - Print and Scan.
Canon also has a scanning application called MP Navigator available from their web site. To use this application you will also need to download and install the scanner driver for the MG53xx, which should also be available from the same Canon web site.

  • Is anyone able to scan with an HP 3055 all-in-one using Leopard

MY hp3055 all in one will not scan with Leopard. HP support says I should wait until "sometime in the future" Any ideas?

    Two options:
If the 'TWAIN' driver for the scanner is working, then with scanner connected (and powered on), run "Applications" -> "Image Capture" (standard with OS X). Image Capture just generically looks for TWAIN devices and uses them.
    The other option:
You might check to see if VueScan supports it. They claim to support over 750 different flatbed scanners. You can see the list here:
    http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/vuescan.htm#supported
VueScan isn't free (I don't think I paid very much for it -- it was probably about $25-30) but you can download it and it'll operate in 'trial' mode (it puts a watermark pattern over everything you scan until you register it) but you can at least see if it recognizes your scanner before you pay for it.
I use it because I was relying on an ancient flatbed scanner for which the manufacturer no longer even made the drivers -- and it was able to recognize and use the scanner with no problem.

  • Impossible to scan with à MP610 canon and a Airport express

I print with à canon MP610 on a Airport express, but it is impossible to scan withit.
    help me .....

Sorry, but Canon and other manufacturers have not provided full featured drivers to allow advanced functions when their devices are connected to the USB port on the AirPorts......which is how I assume that you are connecting.
If you need advanced features like scan, copy, fax, maintenance etc., you will need to connect the All-in-One directly to your computer.
You might want to contact Canon Support directly to ask them if they plan to offer full featured drivers in the future.

Canon PIXMA popup that would allow me to cancel the print job.
Yet the Print Queue icon appears in the lower right corner of my monitor.
If I view the Print Queue, the print queue shows "spooling" and does nothing more.
If I attempt to CANCEL the print job in the Print Queue, it simply changes to "deleting -
    spooling".
I cannot cancel the print job that shows NOT RESPONDING via Task Manager, either.
In fact, the only way the Print Queue icon disappears is if I totally reboot my computer!
"Luckily", I can still print e-mails, Word documents, and even my downloaded PDF of my
    bank statement.
So, I was thinking that it was *only* PIXMA'S OWN SCANNED PDFS that could not be
printed ON THE SAME PIXMA 479.
However, I have since realized that I also cannot print USPS Signature Proof of Delivery
PDFs that I received from USPS via e-mail.
So why can I print *some* PDF files, but not *all* PDF files, like I previously could do?
THESE SCANS ARE OF LEGAL DOCUMENTS, SO I WILL LIKELY HAVE TO E-MAIL
THE REQUISITE, PREVIOUSLY SCANNED PDFS TO FEDEX TO PAY FOR *THEM*
    TO PRINT THEM.
NOTE: I *have* tried turning the PIXMA off, unplugging it, rebooting the computer, plugging
the PIXM in and restarting the PIXMA - still no ability to print PIXMA-scanned PDFs.
And, I find it very strange that e-mails, Word documents, and some other PDFs print with
no problem "around" "NOT RESPONDING" PIXMA print jobs.
I have owned Canon printers for years, including the MX420, and the MX340.

There may be some security issues related to the USPS PDFs.

I can't help with the scan/print problem. You seem to have done everything I would try.
I don't know if maybe using a registry cleaner would help.

  • Image Capture no longer working with Canon MG3250

I’m getting an error message when trying to scan from my Canon MG3250 using Image Capture this is over wifi but plugging in the USB cable doesn’t make any difference. Printing is working as normal.
I’ve used Image Capture to scan previously without any problem and have the drivers installed from Apple.
Open Image Capture, selected the scanner, which now has a generic icon. I get the following error message:
"Software for this device is not installed.
Scanning software for this printer is currently unavailable
Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software."
I tried Preferences>Printers & Scanners. Selected the Scan Tab and Open Scanner. This launched the printer utility Canon MG3200 series. I clicked on the Scanner icon. Where I get the same error as above.
Normally the software would auto download from Apple, but clearly looking at the Console log there seems to be a problem at Apple’s end:
    Console log:
20/05/2014 19:28:36.141 PrintUITool[411]: There are 2 drivers posted for Canon MG3200 series. Software Update server configuration must be wrong.
I've worked around the problem by going to Canon’s website and downloaded the scanning software:
    http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/products/Fax__Multifunctionals/ InkJet/PIXMA_MG_series/PIXMA_MG3250.aspx?type=download&page=1
I used IJ Network Scanner Selector EX to select the scanner and Canon IJ Scan Utility to scan, which worked after I made sure Image Capture was closed.
This doesn't fix the issue with scanning in Image Capture however.

Issue resolved by Paul Huntley on another discussion board.
"To scan with Image Capture you need to install the ICA v3.1.0 driver for selected Canon devices. This is a different driver package to the MG3200 Scanner driver that includes the Canon IJ Scan utility and does not work with Image Capture."
Installing the ICA driver resolved the issue and I can now scan again with Image Capture. I still don't know why it stopped working in Mavericks, or why Apple didn't auto install the driver when required.
