Scanning with Mac OS X 10.9

I am trying to scan using my Mac with Mavericks, but have an old HP printer, Photosmart 2575 All in One.  Is this going to be possible.  It scans but I can't find the piece on my computer, so where is it going?  I have asked for it to go to my desktop, but it's not there.  I had no problem with the old operating system.

Yes, it will work, but probably not scanning FROM the printer.  Try scanning from your Mac. Use Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
Click once on the scanner on the left side, then click on Show Details along the bottom. Along the right side you will see LOTS of options for scanning and saving.

Hello WelchS, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are looking into your scan options. I would like to try and help.
Due to the age of the printer, there is no HP software for this printer on Mavericks.  You can, however, utilize the Mac in-OS basic print and scan drivers.  I am including a document on Installing and Using the Printer on a Mac that should help resolve this, specifically the section of the document entitled "How do I scan with the driver from Apple Software Update?"
Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Scanning with Mac OS10.10.1

Since I've updated to Yosemite I cannot scan on my printer. Can someone familiar with Macs Yosemite tell me how to do that? Just scanning. Everything else is fine and I do NOT want to buy a new printer just for this. I've tried Image Capture and Preview to no avail.
    TIA
    Connie

I found another similar link that might help out in the short term. There are other software packages that can scan besides the HP scan utility. The following link provides this info. However the first step is to add the printer back to the system. I would be frustratied to to not see hte printer in the list of available devices.
Since you've tried unplugging the cable and then reattaching without any success, I would next try powering off the printer completely and then powering it back on after a couple of seconds. I'm not an expert but I believe it should show up in the list of available printers to add in.
Please try Steps 1, 2, and 3 in the link below. Make sure your OS is fully updated from the Apple App store. If it does not show the HP Printer driver as an option then I believe you are fully updated. Step 2 has you add the printer back in. Step 3 explains the other software packages that can be used to scan from the printer. The key is really going to be getting your printer back on the system.

  • Photosmart d110 won't scan with Mac OS X 10.9

"HP Scan" utility used to work correctly with my iMac and hp Photosmart d110 printer/scanner.  Since updating to Mac OS X 10.9.5, the scanning no longer works.  I've downloaded most recent scanner drivers, and installed multiple times. Connection is hardwired USB.
Multiple symptoms:  "can't connect" errors, or scans very slowly and generates a black blank page.  Printing works fine.
(Windows laptop scans correctly, with wireless connection to the d110.)

    Hi,
The HP scan app is no longer available for Mavericks, scannign can be done from Image Capture or Preview:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03967506&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=e...
If that fails as well, try updating the software by following these steps:
Click the Apple icon, then select Software Update.
Click the top Store menu and click on Reload Page.
Be sure to install any HP or Apple update, then try scannig again.

  • HP Scanner not scanning with MAC OS X 10.9.4

I cannot scan from my HP Photosmart All In One Scanner, Product #CN731A to my MAC OS X 10.9.4. I also use Safari. Please advise!
    Thank you

I just learned how to do this with my HP Photosmart 3310 All-in-One from watching a video on the HP website.  I used Image Capture.
Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
In the Applications folder or from the Dock, click Image Capture .
Select your printer from the list. If your printer connects to a network, select it from the Shared list. The details of the scan display.
Click Show Details to view scan settings and options.
Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan .

  • Photosmart D110 cannot scan with Mac OS X Yosemite

HI there, I recently update my Mac Book to the OS X Yosiemite software and since then I cannot use the scanner on my printer. I am able to print wirelessly but when I try to scan it says that the scanner is not compatible with operating system. Can you please recommend how to solve this problem? Thank you

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @SrMacUser
I understand you're having issues with scanning after a Mac update. I am hoping to help!
To get started, there is no driver available for the Photosmart C5180 on Yosemite, meaning you will not be able to scan using HP scan, as there is no HP scan software available. You do have other scanning options however.  Here are my suggestions:
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Follow this guide: Installing Your HP Printer Driver and Software for Mac OS X
In addition, download this driver: HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X
Your scanning options are in #4, and should have you scanning in no time.
    Have a wonderful day

  • Cannot Scan on my HP C4480 Scan with Mac 10.6.8. Help!

I hae my HP C4480 for a few a years.  The printer works perfectly.  I have never needed to scan, but now that I try I cannot.  It was completley perplexing as to how to scan a document.
I followed the instructions on this forum and "Uninstalled" all HP software/printer drives.  I then download the 3.0 for OS 10 via this provided link.  (I am running a Mac 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
When I clicked on the install icon I was informed there was not enough space.
    What do I do now?
Can you provide the link to re install my original HP software and printer drives?  It is more important I can print. I will have to find an internet cafe to scan my document, I fear.  But surely, it is possible to use my own scanner.  Please help.
    Thank you.

I found the printer driver and reinstalled it.
I have since been able to scan, even though it does say, "Scan Error.  Try scan from computer or see documentation. Press Ok".  A muddy message.  I mean what does that mean.
Only after pressing different buttons in desperation, I finally gave up.  And then I heard it scanning, even though there was no remark to that effect.
As usual, it tends to be the prompts and instructions with technolgy that lack in clarity and definition and compound confusion among neophytes like myself.
Thanks for making a great printing machine and what now seems a good scanner.

  • HP Office Jet J6480 All In One - will not scan with Mac OS 10.8 .3

I have been unable to get my HP Office Jet J6480 All In One to scan after upgrading to 10.8.3.I have followed other posts and have installed the most up to date driver (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907) but each time i try to scan from the HP device manager or the photosmart studio, it says "Sorry, scanner could not be intialized. (scanner not found)"  I have tried making sure there are no other updates by clicking on settings in the device manager and clicking check for updates but it tells me "server not availalbe - the software service is currently not available. please try again later" and i have gotten this error for the last week.
I followed the second set of instructions found here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Mac-Printing-and-Scanning/HP-Software-Update-Server-Unavailable/td-p/18... to try to resolve that issue and have installed the software found at the link. I rebooted my computer and am still having the same problem.
Note: My printer is wireless and i have not hooked it up via a cord. Will that make a difference?
My printer seems to be printing fine.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

  • HP L7780 not scanning with Mac OS X 10.9.3

Upgraded MacBook operating system to OSX 10.9.3 and can no longer scan from HP L7780 All-in-One to computer? am I doing something wrong? or does this really not work anymore?

Hello SBTubbs, welcome to the forums
I saw your post about how you are unable to scan since upgrading to Mavericks. The Officejet L7780 does not have a driver available with Mavericks, which is why you are unable to use the printer software.
However, there are workarounds that may work!

  • HPEnvy7640 won't scan to MAC 10.6.8.

HPEnvy7640 won't scan.  Did when it was first set up.  MAC is 10.6.8. Printer tells me it can't find computer.  Printer works fine on printing and copying.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're not able to Scan to Computer from the front panel of your HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer to your Mac OS X 10.6.8 computer. It is strange that you are able to print from your Mac OS X 10.6.8 computer to your printer as this HP Envy series is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.8. Your printer is only compatible for printing and scanning with Mac OS X 10.7 and newer. Therefore, the only supported resolution to this issue would be to utilise a supported Operating System with your printer.  The supported Operating Systems are labelled on the HP Support and Drivers page here.   The supported Operating Systems are also listed under the specifications for your HP Envy on HPShopping.com found here.     Please let me know if the information I've provided is helpful. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro X, Mac, and Scanning with HP Deskjet Issue!

I am running Adobe Acrobat X Pro on Lion and when I go to scan from PDF, my HP Deskjet 3052 A scanner isn't showing up in the drop down menu.  I also have Acrobat Pro X for Windows on my machine (VMWare) and it works fine, but it won't work with the Mac version.  I have called Adobe and HP and neither have been able to help me.  I bought this program with this feature in mind, and I am sick of having to toggle back to Windows to scan, as it eats up a lot of my processing power.  I have downloaded the SANE and TWAIN drivers (or so I thought I did) with no luck.  I have also un-installed and re-installed the printer and Adobe multiple times, with no luck!  Please help me!

How do I scan with the driver from Apple Software Update?
Depending on your printer and the type of driver update, you might need to scan in a different way than you did before you installed Mountain Lion.
NOTE:Scanning to the computer from the printer control panel is not available when you scan with Preview, Image Capture, or Printer browser methods. You must use HP Scan software to scan from the printer.
