Scanning with Photoshop CC

I'm using Photoshop CC to scan in images, and I'm absolutely infuriated with the way that the "import from device" seems to work in CC as opposed to the way that it  works in CS6.
In CC, when using a scanner, after you have imported the first image Photoshop will not make the device function. You can force an overview scan to happen by unplugging and replugging the scanner or selecting another device and then reselecting the scanner you are trying to use.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this is because of some issue with the two different computers I've been using. If anybody has a fix for this behaviour, I'm willing to give it a go.

Well, if it doesn't work, it's very inefficent, yes. That is what I'm saying.
Also, as I've said, this is a problem that is found only within CC. Earlier versions are not effected by this problem.
While it's totally possible for me to go and use other software (I'm on a mac, so it's Image Capture for me) I find that it's actually less efficent for the person driving the software. I mean, I know I can set up Image Capture to punt scans over to Photoshop CC - that's trivial - but if I'm flicking between applications I might as well check my email, and then I'm answering some question from somebody, and then ten minutes has gone by and I haven't finished the scanning. So it kinda depends how you define efficiency.

  • Scanning with Photoshop Elements 12

I recently updgaded from Elements 9 to Elements 12, but the Import pick is greyed out in the File menue in 12. I can still scan in 9 and my everything  has been upgraded for OSX 10.9 (Mavericks). Where  exactly should the Twain plug in reside to make it work?

I did this and restarted the computer but still nothing. I tried 9 afterword and it still works, but no doubt added these deleted paths back. I'm stumped. Sorry for being a nuisance. I don't suppose it should be this hard. Jumping around and fixing this and then that makes it difficult to know if something is being missed or still needs to be done and then there is the possible issue of accomplishing all this in a certain order.

  • Two hours still can't scan with photoshop cs6

two hours still can't scan with photoshop cs6 any ideas?

    Hi,
Thanks for responding. Windows Vista - installed Flash Player 11 - no change -
updated all drives on HP PSC 2355 scanner - no change - added twain 24 bit
because read that 48 was not compatible with cs6 - no change.
Basically, when I go file - import - I should see the option WIA -HP PSC 2350
and it is not there which tells me my scanner is not integrated with cs6 as it
    was with cs3.
    Any ideas?

  • Can I scan with Photoshop CC 2014 on a PC?

I just installed Photoshop CC 2014 on my PC (Windows 7, Pentium processor).  Is there a way for me to scan photos with this software?  That's why I subscribed.  Now I'm wondering if Adobe Scanning is only available for Macs.

Windows: First install your scanner and have it turned on and ready to go,
To scan into Photoshop, File menu > Import > WIA   Follow the steps.
Mac: Photoshop File > Import > Images from Device
    Select your scanner > Flatbed

  • Trouble scanning with Photoshop elements 4.0, Software keeps quitting.

I'm using Photoshop elements as the scanner driver for my cannon flatbed scanner. I haven't used the scanner for a while. Now scans seem to take much longer and before I save, the program unexpectedly quits and I lose the images a waited forever to scan. At first I thought the problem was too little hard drive space, but the problem continues after freeing up more than enough space. I looked for software updates through the menu bar and didn't find any. Any suggestions?

Go to applications>Photoshop Elements 4.0>plug-ins>import/export and send the Adobe TWAIN driver to the trash (but don't empty it). If that helps and you don't have any trouble scanning, empty the trash.

  • Can someone please help me with scanning with Photoshop elements 13?

I have been scanning pictures with no problem with Elements 13 but all the sudden any picture I try to scan it tells me "Nothing imported File or Folder to import did not contain any supported file type or file already exists in catalog."  I know these pictures do not already exist because they are new to me.  What do I need to do to correct this?

you won't be able to use cs5 unless you can show you own a qualifying product.
you show you own a qualifying product by either installing that product (before installing cs5), or supplying the serial number when prompted.
if you purchased or registered your qualifying product with adobe, they may be able to help recover your serial number.  contact adobe support by clicking this link and then clicking 'still need help' as soon as it appears, https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

  • Problem with scanning in Photoshop CS6 after upgrading to Mountain Lion

After upgrading to latest version of Mountain Lion i've got a problem with scanning directly into Photoshop CS6.
on the previous Lion version when I wanted to scan something, i just opened Photoshop -> File -> Import -> images from device
then a new window opened up the ImageCapture app where I could choose the device I wanted to use, and then I selected the scanner (Canon CanoScan 8400F) and I could scan directly into photoshop.
Now with Mountain Lion when I do the exact same thing, it opens a window, but it's impossible to select any device, as the new window is just a plain white window, with 2 buttons on top to rotate something that isn't there. (text is in dutch, cause I'm from the Netherlands)
hope someone can help me out.
I can scan with the use of the ImageCapture app without problems and then save that picture and open it in Photoshop, but it has worked before, so am I doing something wrong? or is this just a little bug
thnx in advance for the help

I’m having the same problem with my Epson Perfection 3200 Photo scanner and Adobe Photoshop CS6. It does the initial overview scan then I get the same blank window as BigNoud shows above. I've done a Software Update and have also updated OSX to 10.8.1.
I know for the Epson you can get a Mountain Lion compatible scan software from SilverFast for about $35.00 as an upgrade here.
I haven't gone that route yet as I don't want to give up any more money for my Apple/Adobe experience.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • How do I scan inside Photoshop with Mac Pro and Epson Artison 710?

I can print but not import from scanner

is your scanner software up to date? failing that look for "twain acquire" or "Import". I think Preview will handle scans. maybe photoshop needs a plugin for this, just guessing. I didn't know that Photoshop had scanning capability on its own. I thought it was scan image, save, then Photoshop, but I'm probably wrong..

  • Image Capture won't scan to Photoshop

I just downloaded Lion (10.7.2) and everything works fine, except ...
When scanning through Image Capture, it won't open the scanned images in Photoshop (CS4) when set to do so. It will open in any other program I try (Preview, Illustrator, etc ...) but not Photoshop.
When I scan an image with PS set as the "scan to" app, Photoshop will open, but it doesn't open the image.  Instead, Image Capture opens a "scan results" dialog box with the name of the image and a magnifying glass icon that shows me that the image has been saved in my "pictures" folder.  I'm clearly choosing the PS app, and not the PS folder in Image Capture, but for some reason it doesn't know what to do with the image when it gets there. Again, the PS app OPENS, but the image doesn't. It just dumps it in the "pictures" folder.
By all accounts, Photoshop seems to be working properly. I can click on a scanned image and open it with Photoshop manually. Scanned images just won't open in PS automatically through Image Capture like they used to before I upgraded to Lion.
I tried rebooting and repairing permissions just for the heck of it, but those did nothing.  Image Capture has no problem recognizing my scanner (Brother MFC 6490CW) and I made sure to download the latest driver for it.
I'm really at a loss as to why this is occuring.  If anyone has a theory, I'd love to hear it.  Scanning stuff into Photoshop is my job basically, so this is driving me crazy.

I can duplicate that behaviour, best file it as a Bug with Apple if you have a Developer ID ?
    http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/
I will file it also and see what response I get.
BR filed: I note that in testing this if I set the Import To selector to Preview, Mail and iPhoto it behaves as expected so it's possible this is an Adobe issue not an Apple one. Might be worth looking in their support forums to see if anyone elase has this and has found a work-around.

  • Acrobat 9 installed, now unable to scan in Photoshop

    Hi,
I've been using Acrobat 9 Pro for a couple of days and with a couple of exceptions, it's been working fine. I can create a PDF from the scanner, a file, web pages, etc. But I just launched Photoshop CS4 to scan something from that application, and I'm having trouble with the Twain driver. It had worked fine before installing Acrobat.
I'm able to scan, but once the image is in Photoshop, everything under the headings in the menu is grayed out and I can't do anything. When I close out of that (through Ctr-Alt-Del) there's a message that Photoshop is not responding. Sometimes when relaunching Photoshop I get an error message about the Twain driver (not able to find, I think).
Has anyone else had this problem? Have any suggestions?
I really needed to be able to scan from Photoshop today.
    Thanks.

Thanks. I didn't have any problems until Acrobat was installed. I'll try reinstalling the scanner software first.
    A few minutes later...
I started closing out of applications to begin the process of uninstalling when I discovered the problem. The scanner software was remaining open after the scan, but it was behind the Photoshop window and I didn't realize it. That's why everything in Photoshop was grayed out and I couldn't do anything. Sorry.

  • Scanning with java

    Hi there,
I am collecting some advice and suggestions for using java with scanner. I was previously using a scanning program to handle survey results.... but there are HEAPS of trouble of that program(and I paid for that program). I am thinking of writing a simple java program to "collect data from scanner - as long as it is accurate". I was thinking if the survey, which was designed by me, has a rigid format, then it will be a matter of finding the exact geometrical coordinate of each answer and make the program that can recongise the output from the scanner and hence collect the result of each question.... I am not sure how possible, and feasible, and difficult to write a Java program to handle data collection from a scanner. Furthermore, I am worry that if this program is distributed, will there be LOTS of trouble? With regard to data collection, that come from different model of scanner and various condition of the survey, such as there are many cross-out or twink-out or even the data was not collect properly...
Any suggestions or advice would be VERY MUCH appericate. Thank you.
    Sam

Wait, before you go off trying to learn how to use this scanner api, let me ask you:
    1) How important is it that you control the scanner via the program?
I ask because our group ran into a similar problem. We had output from an analog strip chart (don't ask) and we needed to analyze it. I stuck the paper chart into my scanner and edited the chart with a photoediting program I had (Photoshop). When you do a scan, you get a lot of artifacts: the bumps on the paper, smudges on the scanner window, etc. With Photoshop, I increased the contrast (while visually checking that no data was lost) and I erased marks that the researcher had made (like "This is the peak here", circled). Then I saved the resulting picture as a bmp. (NOT a jpeg)
Then I wrote a program that would read all of the pixels, and, when any pixel value was darker than a minimum, I put that point into an array of data. Usually there were several pixels per datapoint, so I used error bars to indicate all of the pixels that were at that x axis position. This program was very simple. I hacked it in a couple of hours. (*blush* it isn't good code.. I was in a hurry)
Even if you got these scanner APIs, you'd still have to analyze the picture, right? So you'd have to write something similar anyway.
    2) What sort of survey is it? Is it a yes or no (mark or no mark) in specific locations? Or is it character recognition?
There are numerous good programs out there that scan surveys specifically. If your program needs to recognize text, I would think that it would be much less painful to get a commercial program. If it's a darken the circle sort of deal, what about scantron?
If you design your own program that does everything you want, you'd have to
    1) connect to the scanner, get images from the scanner, allow for scanner errors
    2) do image transformations to get rid of scanner artifacts that might affect your result, e.g. Fourier transform, low pass filter, maybe. (This step requires some math.)
    3) do a recognition sweep that looks for certain patterns (hard) or for mark/no mark at specific locations (easy)
As to your question of "hanging chads" (haha) by which I mean ambiguous results, I think it wouldn't be too difficult to program something that determined if there was more than one mark (inappropriately); it would be best to list these for the operator to view.
If a user other than yourself needs to use your program, you will need to make an appropriate, clear, easy-to-use, visually-pleasing GUI for each of the three above steps. Otherwise people will not use your program, no matter how well it computes the scanning algorithms. This is not a trivial thing to do, but it is doable (time is the issue, though)
You might consider asking the open source community (sourceforge, eg.) to do it for you. Then everyone could benefit from the solution.
    :) jen
