Scanning with Photosmart 6520

I am trying to scan an 8x10 photo, but the top inch or so of the photo (the 8" dimension) does not appear in the resulting scan.  Is there some setting that I need to adjust to capture the entire photo?  I locate the photo in the proper place on the glass screen.

Hi @KenRobbins , and welcome back to the HP Forums!
I understand you're running into scan issues.
I would like to try to help,  but I do need a little information first. I am linking a few HP Support documents below that will show you how to find your product number. Also, please include which operating system you are using. Also, if you're using Windows, please include whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Also, are you connected via a USB cable, oe wireless?
If you scan a document, does it cut off the same area?
Is the page lined up with the indicator on the printer?
Please let me know what you find.  Thanks again for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Slow scanning with photosmart 7520

I am scanning a bunch of old photos for a collage.   Often you hear the scanner quickly scan the photo.  Then it gets hung up for a long time showing a partial of the photo and a box that says "scanning" and a green progress bar.  Sometimes it hangs up for 1 - 2 minutes.  Some pictures only a few seconds.  They are all about the same size photos.  I am scanning on 200 dpi.  Why does it take so much longer on most of the photos?

    Hello @rmayes,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing a slow scanning issue when scanning from your HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer to your Windows 7 computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. Thank you for including that you are scanning your photos on 200 dpi. Rather than a printer, driver, or software issue I do believe that we're dealing with a connectivity issue or a firewall issue. When you print only 1-way communication is used. The computer sends the print command to the printer and the printer will then print the job. However, when you scan 2-way communication is required as the computer and printer send the scanned data back and forth until the full image is on the computer for you to work with. Because of this slow scanning issue I believe that something is interfering with the 2-way communication.
In order to provide you with accurate support I will need to clarify how your HP Photosmart is connected to your computer (USB, Wireless)?
In the meantime, I am going to have you run an MSConfig on your computer. This will allow us to temporarily disable all the background programs from running on your computer. Once the background programs are temporarily disabled I will have you test scanning again to verify if the speeds are faster. If the speed is faster with the background programs disabled than that will tell us that there is definitely a program on your computer causing this issue. Please follow the steps below.
    Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box right above Start, type msconfig and hit enter on your keyboard
When the System Configuration Window opens select 'Selective Startup' and uncheck Load Startup Items
Click the Services tab. Check the box at the bottom for Hide All Microsoft Services
    Select Disable All
    Select Apply and OK
    Restart your computer when prompted
Once your computer comes back on please test scanning again.
Please respond to this post with the result of running the MSConfig. Should the issue persist be sure to let me know how your printer is connected to your computer. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Scanning with Photosmart 7520 crop to bounds not working

    Hello,
I am scanning a lot of photos for a slideshow I'm putting together. I scanned several photos and they came through just perfectly using the "crop to bounds" option. I sent those files over to a folder and started a new batch, and now when it scans each photo, it's cropping to the bottom of the image, but not the side, so I'm seeing a huge white space next to every photo. I am scanning hundreds of photos and do not want to have to crop each image individually to get rid of this. Is there anything I can do to get rid of this problem?

    Hi @KarlinB
The term crop to bounds leads me to believe you are using a Mac, is that correct? Please let me know what operating system and version you have, Mac or Windows?
Also, do you have the printer connected to a wall out as it should be, or is it in a surge protector or power bar?
I look forward to hearing back from you, and working towards a solution. Thanks.

  • Trouble scanning using Photosmart 6520

I am trying to scan to email but it keeps saying there was a problem connecting to the server.
I have made sure my wireless is working, and that it is connected on the printer but it still will not scan to email but it has plenty of times before and I cannot figure out what to do to get it working.
    Can you please help.

    Hello chrissy_p90,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Sorry to hear about the recent issue when trying to Scan to Email, I would like to offer a few suggestions that may help.
Check for updates on the printer, Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates.
Power off the printer and ensure the power cord is connected to a wall out let.
Next you want to power reset the router. If it has a power button press that, if not, remove the power cord. Wait 60 seconds and then allow it to power back up. Once router is fully on, power up the printer.
Test the Scan to Email, if it works there is no need to continue. If it doesn't, try the next suggestion.
Refer to this Thread answered by a colleague of mine happytohelp01 : Efax 7510 still won't work after turning off/on ePrint several times. Follow the steps to setup a Manual I.P and DNS for the printer over the network. The steps will be the same, if not very similar for your printer as the one in the above post.
Try to Scan to Email once done, if still unable to Scan to Email, continue below.
Go back to the above Thread, rather than using the DNS suggested try this set; Primary DNS Server : 209.244.0.3 & Secondary DNS Server : 209.244.0.4.
Try to Scan to Email, if the feature is still not working you will need to call HP's Cloud Support team. If you live in the USA/Canada, 1-855-785-2777. If you live outside the USA/Canada, click HERE to find the Technical Support number for your country/region.
I hope this has helped, if it has, please let me know what step helped.
    Cheers.

  • HP photosmart 6520 scanning doesn't work

My photosmart 6520 printer was working fine, scanning to computer and printing with no problems then all of a sudden I cannot scan to computer and when I try to scan it puts up the msg No Computer Found. I haven't scanned for a while so when I tried I was surprised it didn't work.  I can print and copy but it will not let me scan. When I go to control panel devices and printers my printer shows up with a triangle with an exclamation point in it. I have tried disconnection the power cord and restarting, I have even replaced the usb cord to the computer with no results. I have even tried to reload the installation CD and tried HP's scan troubleshooter. Everything else works, is this an inherent problem with this model printer? I'm baffled

    7597, welcome to the forums
I understand you are no longer able to scan from your Photosmart 6520. I am willing to help you with this!
I am glad to hear the copies are working, as this shows the printer is alright and the problem isn't with the hardware.
First of all, run the HP Print and Scan Doctor and post back to me with the detailed results from the tool.
I also would like to know the OS you are running:
Which Windows Operating System am I running?
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
As you connect USB, try a wireless connection or Ethernet connection and let me know if they work.

  • Unable to Communicate with Printer - Photosmart 6520

A few days ago this issue popped up out of no where. I've been using the printer for a few months now with out an issue, but all of a sudden all of our computers can no longer print. When ever I try an error pops up that the computer cannot communicate with the printer, and to try to update the IP address with the IP address tool.
So far what I've tried without any success:
    - Restarting the printer.
    - Restarting the router.
    - Restarting the computers.
    - Reconnecting the printer to the network (Rerunning the network setup.).
    - Changing the IP address manually.
    - Disabled the router firewall and computer firewall.
    - Changed the wireless security on my router to WPA2 from WEP (Needed to do this anyway.).
    - Uninstalling, then reinstalling drivers and software.
    - HP Print and Scan Doctor (Sorry, left this one off. Doesn't detect any devices.)
The Photosmart 6520 says it is connected to the network and the printed wireless test page says the same thing, but none of the computer can print to it, or detect it.
So far I'm stuck there, as I can't locate the printer to finish reinstalling the drivers.
Having this issue on multiple devices.
    - Desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    - Acer laptop running Windows 7 Home
    - Two different HP laptops running Windows Vista
Since it is affecting so many devices on different platforms I'm inclined to believe the fault lies with the router or the printer itself. Though since there's no other network issues and the printer itself shows it connects successfully to the network (I can also see it listed on the router client list.), I'm leaning more towards an issue with the printer.
Any help would be appreciated and thanks for your time.

Looks like you have done a lot of what needs to be done.  Nice work!
Just want to clarify a few things.
Can you connect the printer to the router using a network cable?
Does the printer work fine if connected directly to the router via netowork cable?
If that works fine, please note the IP address and disconnect network cable.
    Wireless:
From the 6520 , configure wireless connection
What is the printer's IP address when you have it assigned automatically and not manually?
If both IP addresses assigned are from same subnet (ex:192.168.x.x)
-can you ping the printer through the command prompt (in accessories) from a PC on the same network?
      'Ping (address) xxx.xxx.x.x'
You should get back 3 lines showing the mil sec response if successful.
Sorry if I am asking you to do something you have already done.

  • Trouble printing with HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-one while on Mac

    Hi!
I just successfully registered and connected via WiFi to my new HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-one pritner. I even printed the alignment and test page successfully.
When I tried to print documents in Word, Adobe PDF, and TextEdit, the same result occurs each time. The first page that prints has text regarding my Mac such as:
    %!PS-Adobe-3.0
            %APL_DSC_Encoding: UTF8
                                 %APLProducer: (Version 10.8.2 (Build 12C60)
And then many many many blank pages start printing after that. WHAT GIVES!?!
I am using a MacBook Pro with OSX Version 10.8.2 and have tried restarting both my printer and computer several times without success. Any help with this would be much appreciated!

  • HP Photosmart 6520 Server Connection Error: -1: Apps don't work and Scan to email doesn't work

My HP PhotoSmart 6520 has a persistent error to connect to the server and therefore Apps and Scan to email doesn't work.
I have manually set DNS to 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4, I have installed latest driver on my Macbook pro, I have updated firmware, but still not working. Weird is also that in my ePrintCenter, the Apps I see there are not in line with thos visible on the printer.
Detail is that I have set up the printer on a Windows PC but recently changed to Mac.
Printing, scan to Computer all works fine.
Help! I have read a lot on forums but so far no solution for me!

    Hi Jack6520,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I see that you are unable to connect to the apps and use the scan to email feature of your Photosmart 6520 printer due to a server connection error.
First off, thank you for the very detailed information, I really appreciate it.
To better assist you, would you please provide some additional information:
When you set the manual DNS servers, did you also set a manual IP address for the printer?
Have you changed routers or internet service providers recently?  Have you updated the firmware on the router? If you have an ISP-provided router, do you know if they pushed out a firmware update?
Have you recently installed any new anti-virus/malware software?  If so it may have blocked the ports the printer uses to communicate.  I’ve included a post by VisionAiry titled “Check the Anti-Virus for Blocked Ports and Timed Scans”.
Do you have a guest network setup? Please Print a Network Configuration page. It will let you know how many networks the printer sees. A guest network will have the same name as your network with a tag about it being the guest network.
Previously did you customize the printer’s ePrint email address? I’m asking this because I might ask you to disable then enable the web services.  If we have to take this step you will lose the customized ePrint email address without any ability to get it back.
What version of Mac OS X are you using? whatsmyos.com
Are there any cables other than the power cable connected to the printer?
    Thank you.

  • Photosmart 6520 scanning function failed

The scanning function (both from the pc and from the scanner itself) has failed. It seems to make all the right noises, then the message 'now copying page 1/1' shows on the display for sometime, until it is replaced by 'cancelling', then the scan fails. It may or may not be in warranty, but it has been impossible to dispute the status of the warranty as that section on the HP website isn't working. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hey @fearless_fred,
Welcome to the HP Support Forum!  I understand your HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-One Printer's software and front panel scanning functionality has ceased.  I would like to assist you with this.  I have some steps that may resolve the issue.
I recommend approaching the problem from a hardware perspective first.  Try performing a hard reset:
Next, try making a copy from the printer's front panel.  If it fails as before, move onto the next step and restore your printer to factory defaults:
    From your printer's front panel:
    Touch the wrench icon
    Touch Tools
    Touch Restore Factory Defaults
Once the restore is completed, you'll have to reconnect your printer to the wireless network (if you're a wireless user) and re-enable webservices (if you're an ePrint, scan to email or Printables user).  If you are able to make a copy successfully it would make sense to troubleshoot the printer's software setup and restore your scan to computer functionality.  (Further steps posted below)
If you're still unable to make a copy, please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html
With respect to your concerns about warranty, our technical support via phone can check your printer's warranty status and present resolution options accordingly.
If you have copy functionality click here to install the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  When running this utility be sure to click your way through the scanning troubleshooting flows.  If that doesn't restore your software scanning functionality, click here for access to additional troubleshooting steps.
Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.  Best of luck!

  • Photosmart 6520 Scanning

I have just purchased an HP Photosmart 6520 to replace my 6510 which was malfunctioning. I always do my scanning from the the HP Scan on my iMac; with the 6510 I could go into Preferences and change resolution/colour or black & white or grayscale/crop size if wanted each time I scanned. But those preferences do not exist, or at least I cannot find them, in the 6520 HP Scan utility. I have downloaded the latest software. There is the "Scan to Computer" options but changing them makes no difference to scanning from the computer, which means that I am, so it seems, left with having to use the defaults built into the software (200 dpi colour for photos and 300 dpi grayscale for documents). Is there any way I can change these settings to my own requirements for each scan, i.e. I never scan photos at less than 300 dpi. My operating systen is OS X Mavericks.

    Hi TomTreb,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you are missing some scan options for your HP Photosmart 6520, on Mac OS X 10.9, and I am happy to help you with this scanning issue!
Please make sure that the Airprint driver has not been selected as the default, it should read as HP Photosmart 6520. Click on the Apple Icon, System Preferences, then Print & Scan. Then look at these screenshots:

    Hi kasessler,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I see that you are unable to use the scan to email feature of your Photosmart 6520 printer.
For the scanning to your iMac and why you aren’t seeing the document, would you please let me know what version of Mac OS X that you are using (whatsmyos.com)?
For scan to email to work you need to have enabled the web services on your printer and claimed your printer in a HP Connected or HP ePrintCenter account.  Are you being prompted for your password or the 4-digit pin code that is sent to your personal email to activate the scan the scan to email feature?
I’m curious as to why you would like to uninstall and then reinstall the scan to email feature? The scan to email feature on this printer cannot be uninstalled and reinstalled.  If you have accidentally entered an incorrect email address, please call HP’s Cloud Services at 1-855-785-2777 if you live in the USA/Canada region. When printing two-sided from my Mac on landscape A4 with 2 columns, how can I get my HP Photosmart 6520 to print the same way up?

Or, it is set the other way around (which makes more sense). Even though you are in Landscape mode, it is binding on the Long Side of the paper. Since you are in Landscape, you would want it to bind on the short side.
Think of the Binding like a Book. How would you flip the finished pages to read the “book.” Where it would be bound in the imaginary book is how you want it to print.
