Scared I'll lose all my songs! Help

I've had to delete quite a few tracks from the hard drive of my computer because of lack of space. I'm afraid now though that when I reconnect my ipod that itunes will delete everything that's on the ipod but no longer on my c drive. Will it be ok once I have the manual update option on??? I have the 4G 20 gig ipod.

The only problem you potentially face now is if your iPod freaks out and needs to be Restored. Have you backed up your Library? The easiest way is to burn it to DVDs, if your computer has that capability. iTunes even provides the functionality to do it. At the very least, you should backup any purchased music, because iTMS will not let you redownload them.

I would recommend you use a program called senuti that allows you to copy your songs over to a new computer from an iPod. Unfortunatlly you have to pay for the full version but it allows you to have 1000 free song capacity of copying over and a movie counts as the capacity of 1 song.

The right way is to restore the backup that you kept of your old computer onto your new one. If it is too late for that before you do anything set up a backup process for the new one so when it crashes (note I said "when", not "if") you won't be faced with this problem again.
In lieu of that the apps already mentioned will help you get content off the phone if it was not purchased from iTunes. But it it WAS purchased from iTunes just connect the phone to your new computer, Authorize iTunes on the new computer and choose "Transfer Purchases" from the iTunes file menu.

Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.

uninstalling itunes wont remove the music from your computer, its just like if you replace your dvd player all your dvds will still be on the shelf where you left them

When I update iTunes, it "loses" all my songs stored in a non-default location. How to prevent?

I store my music library on an external hard drive. Whenever I update iTunes, it "loses" all my songs. When the iTunes library updates, all my tracks get little exclamation points next to them because they are not in the default (C:\my music\itunes music) location. I have my ways of fixing this...but they are a pain. Is there a way to have my music files not get lost when I update iTunes?

Hi dklowther,
iCloud only houses access to Music purchased through iTunes. Any music you put on your iPhone from CDs or other sources would only be on your phone and in your iTunes library that you used to sync the songs to your iPhone. You need to move the contents of your iTunes library from your old computer to your new one....

Uninstalling either the iPod Updater software or the iTunes software should not erase your music files. They are stored separately under the '..My Music\iTunes' folder.
However, not making backups of your music files and the iTunes Library database file is an extremely risky position in which to subject yourself.

Yes, you will lose everything and have to repurchase it.
Either use File -> Backup library in iTunes to backup everything to CD/DVD or copy /My Documents/My Music/iTunes folder to an external drive.

If you transfer any iTunes content to the iPhone from an iTunes library on another computer, all iTunes content on the iPhone will be erased first with a warning message provided indicating this beforehand.
Authorize the different computer with your Apple ID with iTunes. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, right click on the iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Transfer Purchases. This will transfer all apps on your iPhone to the iTunes library.
