Scary Message Every Import  from my Sony PMW 320 XDCAM EX  Clip Files w/ Completed Time LIne

Hello
This is the 3rd question I've posted working my way through my first edit (and HD edit) with Premiere Pro CS5.5, and I have a completed time line with the basic edit for an important event, my first for a client I hope to work for again.  Am now working on the title sequence at the beginning and also a "recap" with music and highlights at the very end.  Then I will be trying my first burn to a bluray -R disk on the LG 12x internal BRD unit in a high performance Mac Pro I had built at OWC.  10.7.5 Lion currently.
3 types of files:
1.  1080i 29.97 upper frame first, standard 1080i settings......from my B camera footage from a Sony NEX 5N.  28mbps I believe.  Example clip:  00018.MTS.  No issues or messages on the imports into the Project window.
2.  Backup files same settings but 50mbps from Nanoflash recorder attached to my PMW 320 camcorder through the HD SDI output.  Example clip:  01253001.MTX.
Both of these above I just dragged their entire folders onto my internal master 2 disc Raid 0.  And then imported just the "clips" from each into the project window in each's own bin or folder.
3.  Same scenario with my main files copying them from the large camcorder.  Example clip:  159_0221_01.MP4.  35mbps.  All 3 of these types of files have 29.97 fps indicated to the right.
But in the Project window when I selected initially all the clips from the drop downs inside the folder from the PMW 320 on the Master drive, and since then just some individual clips.....I keep getting this::  A window with "File Import Failure" in the top header and 5 lines of all the Volume codings within that Folder in the message box, and below it, "Error Message"  "File format not supported"  with an active "OK" button.  Which I have clicked and then gone ahead and worked with them.
But the clips in question are all in the project window and load fine into the Program Window or drag fine directly to the time line.  I have completed the whole sequence save for what I mentioned above.  Color correction, audio adjustments, slo motion, freeze frames, transitions, everything.  I have even taken a short piece of the time line and done experimental exports to self contained "Animation" codec clip,  H.264 clip and an MPEG 4 clip.  All were successful.  Last step coming soon will be export to 1080i 29.97 bluray.
I believe I have seen "MPEG 4" in the codec info on the PMW 320's clips.  Being that Premiere is supposed to handle every codec no problem, and that it seems to have done just that, what is going on here with these messages??  I have a ton of hours into this 1st edit and it all seems to work.  Do I not need to worry about this message even if I don't understand why I am getting it?
Thanks much
Ron

All that shows is the clips themselves, but yes I guess that could be happening.  So in the future from the PMW 320 import them 1st into Media Browser and then to the Project window?  (before taking them to Source window or directly to the time line)  Or just leave them in the Media Browser, and work it from there?
In the meantime, the fact it has all worked and seems to be working, would you think I'm OK since I've been able to do up to a massive 156gb Animation codec 16 minute portion of the sequence while I was first experimenting?   I am likely going to try the Dynamic Link function and Auto settings into Encore, straight from my time line of around 90 minutes.  Per the suggestion of Ann here in one of my other threads asking about that part.  Just to see if I can mail it on time on Tuesday if it looks good.

  • To send from FCP to Shake can I send clips out of the time line?

My clips are coming into Shake blacked out- do I have to convert these to QT files first, and if so how does that work flow look like- would I overright the Shake rendered QT over the original clip in the FCP timeline? This doesn't seem too elegent, does Shake only take still images and QT files?

I don't use iMovie but there is a way to get .mov files out through one of the export functions (Share or something like that). import the .mov files into fcp, create a DV NTSC 48K sequence and you'll find you do not need to render.
Also, when you export .mov files from iMovie, you can filein directly to Shake if need be.
Out of curiosity, why are you bothering with iMovie at all if you're using FCP and Shake?

  • Get an error message when importing from iPhoto says, "There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 44GB of free space."

I get an error message when importing from iPhoto that says, "There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 44GB of free space." the drive is empty, I just reformatted it to Mac OSX journaled.

I'm guessing this is an extrenal drive, correct? If so make sure the library you're importimng into is really located on the external drive. By default Aperture creates its library in your home pictures folder.

Video in camcorder screen is perfect, same video connected directly from camera to a monitor is perfect.  Also seems to be ok when importing into a Mac Book pro.
Import into the iMac using  iMovie 11and played back full screen on the iMac has the look of  soft VHS tape, not tack sharp and pronounced video lag when panning or when a subject moves across the screen.  Has anyone else resolved a similar issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I  paid for 3 years of Apple protection care but Genius bar experts at local Apple store are stumped.

I'm sorry, I didn't know Imovie has it's own Forum- it's not listed here. Looks like I need an adapter for memory card, because I have an older Mac which doesn't have a slot for the card.

  • When i try to import from itunes into FCP 7 i get error, file error; 39 files recognized,0 access denied 243 unknown

When i try to import from itunes into FCP 7 i get error, file error; 39 files recognized,0 access denied 243 unknown

Be careful,  FCP is an open system which is great, but it allows you to work with formats that are not completely compatible with fcp and can cause serious problems down the road.  You can check the formats of all audio files brought into fcp by selecting them in the browser and hitting command-9,  Use compressor to convert all audio files to 48k 16 bit aiffs before importing to fcp.  There's a preset for this format in the apple presets.  You mention video files.  The same thing holds.  In particular, avoid bringing in h264 quicktime movies.  Convert to an fcp friendly format like prores using compressor.

when i import from my video camera into imovie the clips look tall and thin. tried different imports like full size or large have imported both sd and hd but seem to make no difference everything seems to run ok including sound. whats going on?

    Hi Brad,
when you use Streamclip to convert media, use the same name for the exported file (only with different extension). Then make a shell script calling
    touch -r origFileName.mp2 newFileName.mov
This will copy the exact time and date from origFileName.mp2 to newFileName.mov
The script may look like this (save the file, give an exec permission to it and call it in the right directory):
    #!/bin/bash
    for i in `ls *.mp2`; do
    NEWNAME=$(ls "$i" | sed -e 's/mp2/mov/')
    touch -r $i $NEWNAME
    done
You may need to adapt the extension names used (in the example above .mp2 is input file to get the date/time stamp from and .mov is the output file to stamp.
    Have fun and cheers

  • MXF-Files from Sony PMW 200 (XDCAM) convert to FCP?

    Hi there,
I worked at the Confed Cup in Brazil this year and came back with lots of MXF Footage. The main problem was that we had to shoot in NTSC 60 Hz.
Now I´m having difficulties to even open files with Sonys Tranfer Tool but nothing seems to work.
After a while I figured out that I only recieved the MXF Files itself- to make it more clear:
The Cutter importet the files into Avid Media Composer and gave me the complete folder under the AVID Project Folder. Now I have 250GB MXF Files that I can´t open.
Any ideas how to convert these files to FCP 7?
I´d be happy for any help in this matter.
    Thanks

    1) Get Avid Media Composer and use that.  There is a fully functional 30 day free trial.
    2) Tell them that you use FCP and cannot access the footage they gave you. Ask for the camera originals.
    3) Spend money to get the MXF Importer from Calibratedsoftware.com.  Note that the audio and video files will come in separately, and thus need to be manually sync'd on your end.  This will be a big pain.  So options 1 and 2 are your best bets.

  • How do i import from my sony hd videocam

    I have 3 questions.
    1)  How can I import my video from my sony HD videocam to my iMac (OS X Lion) ... it does not seem to allow it
    2)  If not allowed, do you recommend any apps or software that can do it?
    3)  Also, how can I import from my PC laptop SONY PMB (picture motion browser) to my iMac
I would appreciate it if anyone can help.  Thank you very much.

ad 1) connect via usb, set on/Play, choose Import from Camera in iMovie
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/
ad 2) any other designated video-edit app .......
ad 3) export files from SonyPC to some mass-storage device (ext harddrive, flash mem stick, ), import from there
    keep in mind:
iM is by concept meant for camcorders.
doesn't support any resolution, any aspect ratio, any codec ......

  • I'm trying to upload videos from my Sony HDR-CX550 camera and the files that contain the video (.cpi or .mts) are all grayed out on iMovie. I've been able to upload footage before onto Apple computers but now it doesn't seem to be working. Suggestions?

I've tried many different options including calling Apple Customer Support and talking to them for over an hour troubleshooting the issue. They couldn't do anything. I also called Sony who failed as well. Somebody please help me out. Thanks!

    Hello whatif95,
Sorry to hear that you are having trouble importing video from your Sony HDR-CX550.  I found an article that provides some information specific to your camera and iMovie '09:
iMovie: Importing both HD and SD content with Sony HDR series cameras
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1793
For versions previous to iMovie ’11 v9.0.1, including iMovie ’08, ’09, and ’11 (v9.0 only):
To import the AVCHD content from the camera when MPEG-2 content has also been recorded, you must first import and erase the MPEG-2 content from the camera. You should then be able to import the AVCHD content.
    I hope this helps!
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • Import from Panasonic NV-GS 320

I've tried several times to capture video from my NV-GS 320 with FCE. It works fine with iMovie, but FCE won't import. It says something like "tape might be damaged". When I import the files captured with iMovie to FCE, they do not show in 16:9 full screen mode, but are smaller than that. Anyone has an answer to that problem?

    More info please.
What QuickTime version are you running?
    Which FCE version?
Which Easy Setup have you selected?
Are you a PAL or NTSC user?
Did you shoot at 12 or 16 bit audio?
