Scary unrecognized photo appears in photos

Some time ago a weird image appeared in my photo app on my ipad. Something Goyish, medieval dancing witch and skull drawing. After opening the image it dissapears, it can only be seen as a small icon format. I got spooked out, deleted the image and forgot he whole thing. A couple a months later I opened the photo app again a there it was, this time merged with a photo of my daughter. I deleted it again, but what the ****??? Any ideas? Similar experiences?

G,
Thanks for the reply. Not quite sure what you mean by a space keyword line. I did check the HUD and it appears fine. I only have four keywords and one large keyword group (800+ items) that also appears ok. Some of them have a space in them (eg Bald Eagle); I hope that doesn't make a difference.
The photo in question shows no keywords in the metadate view panel, so I don't think it has any, and was taken and imported along with several similar shots that don't show up in the queries.

  • Stop deleting photos when syncing

Is there a way to add photos from a PC to the IPad with out deleting what is already on the IPad I have well over 2000 photos that I added in one go took hours, now it seems to want to delete all before I add more.

When you tell iTunes to sync photos (from the Photos tab you get when you click on your iPad), it gives the choice of selecting a folder on your computer to sync with. Just make sure all the photos you put on your iPad previously are in that folder. Then just add whatever new photos you want on your iPad to that folder. When it syncs, all photos already there will stay there while the new ones are added. I know it gives that scary, "All photos on your iPad will be replaced..." thing, but it's ok as long as all the photos you want on your iPad are in the folder on your computer that you sync to.
You couldn't have put those photos on your iPad without a sync, unless you manually emailed them to yourself or something, in which case they'd be in the Saved Photos album not the Photo Library album which can only be managed through a sync using iTunes. So you must have done that at least once before. However, syncing photos, even a lot of them, shouldn't take that long. What does take a long time is that iPad backup that syncing also does. However, if you want to just skip that and go right to the syncing, just click the little x to the right of the "backing up iPad" message and the backup will abort and you'll go right into the syncing only. Also, remember that syncing photos only affects photos in your Photo Library album. Photos in the other Saved Photos album are unaffected by the sync process.
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I know which add-ons have been validated as safe? When clicking "Add to Firefox" I get the scary warning window about only using add-ons from trusted

The scary warning that appears when I click "Add to Firefox" for a certain add-on discourages me from actually installing it.
"Install add-ons only from authors whom you trust. Malicious software can damage your computer or violate your privacy . . . (author not verified)"
In particular, I'm interested in the Password Exporter add-on. I want to be especially cautious as this will access all my passwords stored in Firefox. How do I actually know if an add-on is safe or not?

If you are talking about "Password Exporter 1.2.1", it's safe as I have been using that add-on for years and love it.

  • Unrecognized server on my network

I recently added an iMac and a Macbook Pro. I have a network set up using an Airport Extreme.
I also have a PC. All of these machines are connected to the network, the 2 Mac's via wireless and the PC by ethernet cable.
In my finder window under "shared" there is a PC server that I do not recognize and that I cannot connect to, other than as a guest. My network is set up with WPA password protection and I haven't given anyone else the password to get on my network.
Anyone have a clue as to what's going on and how I might get this PC server disconnected from my network?
    Thank you

How can I determine whether my AirPort Extreme is set up in bridge or NAT mode?
The Apple document Desiging AirPort Extreme Networks Using AirPort Utility can tell you more about bridge mode vs. NAT mode operation, but you're in NAT mode if you've told your AirPort Extreme Base Station to "Share a public IP address."
Also, one thing I tried last night was changing the password to get into the network. When I did that all of the other machines on the network dropped off, including the unrecognized. I logged back into the network on my other computers with the new password. After doing that the unrecognized server appeared as well. That leads me to believe that it is somehow related to one of my other computers.
When you change the network password, your base station reboots, effectively temporarily kicking all other machines off the network until they take action to reconnect with it.

  • CD/DVD drive does not play entire disk

    Greetings!
    I have an iMac (2009 acquired) 3.06GHZ - Mac OSX 10.6.8 - 4GB mem.
I am experience CD/DVD drive problem with some CDs with photos: The drive starts accessing the disk
but at some point (say, midway through a 300 pic cd) seems to stop recognizing the presence of photos on the disk.
At that point, Preview cannot access such "unrecognized" photos and Icon vew does not show such "unrecognixed"
photos. It is as if the drive is not able to explore the entire disk.
Same seems to happen when I write to a blank DVD disk: some material ends up not being written to disk.
    Any help welcome!
    - Roger T.

    Thanks for the reply.
Are you sure that the Files work with the Mac?
Err... Typical example: CD recorded on a PC, with many .jpg files (photos) on board. Seems that there is no "File compatibilty" issue here. CD starts playing on the iMac, in Preview (Icon display mode). Soon, Icon display mode just stops. Seems that the drive is not able to "drill" into the material on the CD further than a certain ares. At this point, it is even difficult to eject the CD. iMac seems to lock up.
I would put the Movies in a mp4 file and the pictures in a jpeg.
    No movies on the CD
Why don't you use an external drive or Air drop to move files?
Should not need an external dribe to just play a CD containing photos, provided by another party. Simple operation , no?

  • Error while burn data into Disk

    Hi guys,
Trying to burn a data (mov) to a DVDR but it's failed and prompt out the error as below
The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.
What's that means? I've try to burn in 8x, 4x...
    Thanks for help.

    Hi there,
I can't try that one I'm delivering my photographic work  to a client and it as to be organized as files in folders.
I've seen lot of posts of the same issue since 2005 and no one is really giving a relieving answer.
I've checked every single proposal to sort this, but...
It was working perfectly well on my macbook pro, until some months ago, as it was still working with CD,
I said to myself to go ahead with the second computur (i.mac) I have in the office.
While in the middle of recording DVD for my client the SCARY message did appear again once, splitted to another DVD support that did work, than again, errathic for a while, but now nothing else to do, changing DVD brand, cleaning CD, permissions, software updates, burning from another software, burn a disk image from disk utility or whatever was suggested here in these years.
That's two computers bought at the same time with 3 years of work behind and both are getting the DVD lens old already? Isn't this a bit ridiculous for a so expansive brand as apple.
Any other idea I may not have tried?
    Cheers

  • Lost preferences, bookmarks, screensavers, etc on Admin user.

    Hello,
My husband accidentally lost all of our preferences on our computer, bookmarks on Safari, screensaver folders, etc. We are under the Admin user is but cannot figure out what has happened or how we lost everything. We have logged in/out and shut down, reinstalled Snow Leopard. It started when he was on Safari and locked up, then don't know what "discussion" him and the computer had but apparently the MAC won!!! Can someone please tell me how to fix it?
    Thanks

If you have only one Admin account on the machine, your going to have to so this trick to create another, in doing so the Library folder of this new user will be created and you'll have control of the computer again.
Hold the command and s keys and reboot the computer, a scary black screen appears with a lot of white text runs down the screen, wait until it's finished and backspace to clear any extra ssssss....
Type the following commands at the command prompt, and then press Enter after each one:
    Don't make a mistake
    mount -uw /
    rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
    reboot
mount *space* -uw *space* /   then press enter
rm *space* /var/db *space* .applesetupdone  then press enter
    reboot then press enter
The Mac OS X Setup Assistant screen should appear after the reboot, just as it does when you start up a brand new computer or upgrade to a new version of Mac OS X.
Create a new user account with the Setup Assistant. Be sure to name this user something different than the admin user that already exists on the system.
At the end of the Setup Assistant process, the system will automatically log into this new user account.

  • IPod touch near than dead

    Hi,
After a failed upgrade of software (requested by iTunes):
    a) iPod touch with totally black screen, no changes after push any key combination.
    b) When connected to MS Windows computer, after push during near 20 seconds the "start" and "home" keys, a message "unrecognized device" appears.
    c) "Apple Mobile Device" service is running.
    d) Driver "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" appears at same time than "unrecognized device" message, with: green "!" symbol over icon; error "device cannot not be started (code 10)".
    e) All software updated today after full removal of previous one.
After 5 hours working the subject, I do not known what more I can test.
    Any hint is welcome.
    Thanks a lot.

Well, I don't know who "the man" is but you now own a small flat brick.  None of us on the forum have any clue what "the man" did to it and, in fact, Apple won't even do a non-warranty repair on it.

  • Stuck in login screen / cannot login

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and I didn't recently have a software update on last power down, but for some unknown reason, my Macbook Pro that I got this summer got stuck in a login screen. I never had to login before, and for some reason, I kept trying to login, putting in my password, and even trying to power down, but it went to a blue screen, and then back into a login screen. After a hard reset (holding down the power button and pressing it again once it turned down), it seemed to power up normally. Does anyone have that problem? Thanks.

I've just encountered the same issue this AM. Rolling along fine with SL on my iMac for over a month, I was streaming a movie to my appleTV and it stopped. I went to my iMac hosting iTunes to see what the problem was and for some reason the iMac was running extremely slow so I did a hard shut down. Upon rebooted I got stuck in the login loop you mentioned. You've probably figured this out by now but I was able to break-in by doing a safe boot (start up with shift key down). Scary but everything appears to be OK now.

  • Jpeg photos are "unrecognized or corrupted"

I'm having troubles loading all my pictures into iPhoto again. I've been using iPhoto for a couple years already and never had problems...recently my account appeared to be corrupted, so I created a new one instead. I made the new account the "administrator" and transferred all my stuff from the original account to this new one.
Now, I'm trying to recreate my photo library and I get that message "file is not recongized or corrupt", but its a jpeg file, and I've had these pictures on iPhoto before. I can view these pictures just fine on Preview, but I can't on iPhoto. The other weird thing is that it wont let me open/view the "pictures folder" through Finder because I dont have "sufficient privileges" even though I'm the administrator!
UGH!!! I don't know what to do...Please help!
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You need to tell us what the exact problem is with iPhoto in your original account. You either have a corrupt database - iPhoto Library Folder or you have run out of free space on your hard drive so iPhoto can't perform.
Whatever, creating a new account is not going to solve your problem.
The default permissions for the Pictures Folder denies access to everyone but the owner - account holder.
You will get that unrecognized warning if you try to import a photo from an iphoto library folder to another iPhoto library folder - can't do it.
Forget the new account. Login into your regular account and rebuild the iphoto Library.

  • When I first am looking at my newly uploaded photos in "Library", a box appears near the bottom of the photo that says "loading" (the photo looks good to me), then it is more "faded" and does not look as good.  Is there some setting on that I am not aware

When I am first looking at my newly uploaded photos in "Library," a box appears near the bottom of the photo that says "Loading".  While it is loading, I usually think the photo looks "good".  After the photo is done loading, it looks more washed out.  Is there some sort of setting that I might have on (or that I need to turn on) so that this does not happen.  I have Lr4.  Thanks.

    Hi Tracy,
There used to be a way to see if poster was new to the forum.., anyway - welcome to the forum.
As I was alluding to, biggest differences in initial display are due to:
    * Camera calibration profile.
    * Auto-exposure/contrast settings (for which compensations have been auto-applied in camera, but not in Lightroom).
So, choose a matching camera calibration profile (whether that's an option or not depends on your camera model - they're available for many but not all models) if you prefer one of them over "Adobe Standard" (the factory default profile).
Also, your camera covers for underexposure due to non-optimal auto-exposure/contrast setting, Lightroom doesn't, so your options are:
    * turn it off in camera.
    * learn to compensate manually (or automatically via a plugin) in Lightroom.
Of course, in addition to preferred defaults (alt-click big "reset" button in dev module), come up with some presets which are appropriate for your druthers and type of photography.. e.g. these will compensate Nikon ADL settings:

  • Hi all, I upgraded my MBP to Lion , but on the screen where i need to type my password, click  on my photo and it does not appear the place for me to type my password and it stay stuck there. Can anyone solve this problem for me?

Hi all, I upgraded my MBP to Lion , but on the screen where i need to type my password, click  on my photo and it does not appear the place for me to type my password and it stay stuck there. Can anyone solve this problem for me?

Reboot the machine holding Command and r keys down, you'll boot into Lion Recovery Partition
In there will be Disk Utility, use that to select your Lion OS X Partition and Repair Permissions.
After that is done reboot the machine and see if you can log in.
If not repeat the above steps to get into Lion Recovery, get online and reinstall Lion again, it will overwrite the installed version and hopefully after that it wil work.
    Reboot and try again.
If not follow my steps to create a Snow Leopard Data Recovery drive, then option boot from it and grab a copy of your files off the machine.
Then reinstall all your programs onto the external drive like setting up a new machine, then use Disk Utility to erase the entire internal boot drive (select the drive media on the far left, not the partiton slightly indented) format Option: GUID , 1 partition OS X Extended and then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the external to the newly formatted internal drive. Once that is finished reboot and disconnect the external drive.
Once you go that, boot into Snow Leopard and update to 10.6.8, use the AppStore and option click on Purchases and download Lion again and install.
Lots of work, but there is no Lion disks.
