SCCM 2007 and 2012 coexistence and Cross Forest support

Hi All
I have a question
My company has recently acquired another company
That company exist of 2 forests (forest A has one domain namely domain A : and forest B has one domain namely domain B) with a two way forest trusts between them
Domain A has a SCCM 2007 primary Site
Domain B has a SCCM 2007 primary site and 2 secondary Sites
The active directory schema is extended in both domains
We cannot migrate the SCCM 2007 environment because it is a mess , so we want to build a new SCCM 2012 R2 environment into Domain B and from that environment manage both domains  (OSD, software deployment client management ...)
We want to install a SCCM 2012 R2 (CU3) primary server into domain B and add two distribution points instead of the two secondary sites and manage both forests (domain A and B) from that primary site server
Now my questions are
1 )
Can an SCCM 2007 environment coexist with a SCCM 2012 environment?
I believe it can If I make sure that in the new SCCM 2012 environment we only use boundary groups for content locations and not for site assignment and in the SCCM 2007 environment (domain A and domain B) I need to disable the client push account.
2)
Discovery , How do we make sure that systems and users are discovered from both domains?
Do we need to do some additional configuration to make that happen or will this be no problem because of the Two way trust and active directory schema extension.
3 )
Can we do all the management from the new SCCM 2012 R2 site , also OSD deployments for both domains ?
I hope someone can help me with these questions
Thanks in advance
Regards
Johan

Hi All
After talk with management and local support the decision is made not to deploy only distribution points but instead deploy secondary sites (of course with management point and distribution point) because the bandwidth to these sites is a
problem.
So the situation will be Domain A Primary site (SCCM 2012 R2) and for both remote locations a secondary site , domain B a secondary site (of course all the related ports need to be opened for both domains as explained here https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh427328.aspx
Question
Can we do all the management from the new primary SCCM 2012 R2 site (domain A) , also OSD deployments for both domains A and B ?
I hope someone can review this
Thx in advance
Regards Johan

  • SCCM 2007 and Active Directory - On-boarding and Off-Boarding Process

Currently, when a user resigns from our company, we rebuild their computer immediately and provide to another user.
From a best practice perspective, should we delete the computername from AD and then rebuild and join to the Domain?  We also have SCCM 2007 in place.  Are there other best practices for SCCM 2007 and AD that we should be following for on-boarding
and off-boarding users?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  :-)

With respect to AD, it will be better to reset the account rather than deleting it. This way the SID is retained and all permissions (for DNS records etc) and AD group memberships will be retained. AD group memberships will be more significant, depending
on whether it is used for SCCM collection definition rules
In SCCM, if the record is not deleted, it will be identified as a known computer and OSD advertisement can be pushed on the client. Ideally task sequence should use same name as the SCCM resource record for naming the newly built computer. In case AD/SCCM
objects are deleted, duplicate records may get created depending on the timing of client registration and AD system discovery cycle. If SCCM client gets installed and registered before next AD system discovery cycle, there shouldn't be any issues.
But if AD discovery cycle runs before client registration, two records will show up in SCCM console and one will be obselete, which has to be deleted manually. This issue can be resolved by adjusting the frequency and schedule of AD system discovery cycle.
My suggestion will be to reset the computer account in AD and retain the SCCM resource in case of machine rebuild scenarios. In case of task sequence not retaining the computer name, custom steps can be added in TS to set variables as required.

    help me out please.
    Thanks

Hi Guys ,I figured out the issue.
It was the boundary in SCCM 2007.Actually my SCCM 2007 and SCCM 2012 server were accessing the same Active Directory Site-(Default First Site Name).
I deleted the boundary and every thing went well.
So thing is SCCM 2007 and SCCM 2012 should not fall under same active directory Site.
    Cheers

I previously had a similar issue. See blog post here
    http://gerryhampsoncm.blogspot.ie/2013/07/configmgr-sccm-2012-migration-sharing.html
In my case one of the boundaries in the 2007 site had an empty Display column and this, it seems, is not allowed.
Have you checked the box to "Enable DP sharing" while you create the Source Hierarchy? If so, try the process with the box unchecked.

  • Re-use network share for SUP downloads between SCCM 2007 and 2012?

We currently have network folders created to download software updates for SCCM 2007. Now that we are bringing up SCCM 2012, can I point SUP downloads to those same folders so I don't need to duplicate file space for both SCCM environments?  Is
the structure the same so either SCCM can pull from them to their respective DPs?
    Thanks!
    Russell

No, you can't directly use the same folders and files for the package source locations. You can specify the 2007 folder as a source to download content from though when downloading updates.
Are you really that concerned about 20-50GB though? If so why? You should be using cheap storage for this.

  • Migate from Sccm 2007 to 2012 and WSUS functionality

We are doing a side-by-side migration from 2007 to 2012.
At present WSUS is installed on the same server as SCCM 2007.
If we do a side-by-side migration, can we use the existing WSUS on the 2007 server whilst in co-existance?
or will we have to install WSUS on the new SCCM 2012 as a full replica.
    cheers Mike

You can migrate from 2007 but you need to configure the new environment with exactly the same products and classifications or the migration will fail - you cannot choose some and omit others.
I agree with grundlichkeit and Jörgen. Why would you migrate years of updates for no good reason? Don't worry about XP.
If we do a side-by-side migration, can we use the existing WSUS on the 2007 server whilst in co-existance?
or will we have to install WSUS on the new SCCM 2012 as a full replica.
So, in answer to your question, no you would not re-use the 2007 WSUS. You would also not have a replica on the 2012 server. You would start afresh.

  • SCEP install and policy issue (after migration SCCM 2007 to 2012)

    Hi,
We have some terminal services which were connected to SCCM 2007.
I migrated 3 of them (via "install client" in SCCM 2012), what worked fine. Since they become member of the Windows server group + terminal services group, they get the scep-client as well as a specific policy.
Now we have 1 terminal server which did not install the scep client.
    Logfile:
Failed to get EP event code under registry key SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CCM\EPAgent    EndpointProtectionAgent    21/08/2014 11:19:42    43640 (0xAA78)
Failed to get EP event message under registry key SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CCM\EPAgent    EndpointProtectionAgent    21/08/2014 11:19:42    43640 (0xAA78)
State 1, error code 0 and detail message are not changed, skip updating registry value    EndpointProtectionAgent    21/08/2014 11:19:42    43640 (0xAA78)
    File C:\Windows\ccmsetup\SCEPInstall.exe version is 4.5.216.0.    EndpointProtectionAgent    21/08/2014 11:19:42    43640 (0xAA78)

Sleep 10 seconds and retry read ProductName of the AM solution    EndpointProtectionAgent    21/08/2014 11:20:22    43640 (0xAA78)
Unable to query registry value (ProductName), return (0x80070002) means EP client is NOT installed successfully.    EndpointProtectionAgent    21/08/2014 11:20:32    43640 (0xAA78)
    So I installed the client manually via "SCEPInstall.exe /policy z:\client\ep_defaultpolicy.xml" (after a pushd \\sccmserver\c$\...client\).
    2 things:
1.any idea why it wouldn't install "failed to get EP event code under reigstry key" ..?
2.specific scep terminal server policy will be applied afterwards (file exclusions etc), right (don't see it yet and refreshed policy several times)?

    Hi,
I have seen a temporary solution, created a package with the command line: REG add “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Security Client” and deployed this program to the Client.

  • SCCM 2007 and 2012 Catalogs have a slight discrepancy when adding AR XI (11.0.10) update

SCCM 2007 does not display the Bulletin and Article IDs, whereas SCCM 2012 does. Can this be corrected for SCCM 2007as well?

    Ben,
If you're referring to SCUP 2011 (Download System Center Updates Publisher 2011 from Official Microsoft Download Center), we are already using this in our environemnt. Yes... SCCM 2007 is supported by SCUP 2011.

  • SCCM 2007 and WSUS 6

Is it possible to use a Server 2012 instance with WSUS 6 as a SUP for SCCM 2007?

    Only WSUS 3.0
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680712.aspx
Software updates in Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) requires WSUS 3.0 SP1 or WSUS 3.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2). WSUS 3.0 SP2 is required to support Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 software update management for
the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 operating systems.

  • SCCM 2007 and SED (Self encrypting HDD) - How do I report on them?

Currently we are moving to a new Encryption software and we have a large amount of workstations with SED hdd - this works brilliant as the encryption time with supported software was brought down from 6 hours to less than 5 min.
My question is how do I distinguish between normal HDD and SED Drives in my environment (the fleet of 4000+ workstations)and report on them in SCCM.
I am getting allot of different topics on to extend my mof files (which voids our support contract) and that its not recommended.
and based on the outcome of my MS how-to call I am not sure that anybody thought of this as there recommendation is to see what software is installed in Programs and Features and report using software reporting, the thing is that its not a type of software
installed that will give you the functionality but the physical HDD type...
Please if someone can provide me with some detail or just give me a nudge in the right direction.
    Thank you.

Assuming that the SED has a unique PnP ID (or group of PnP IDs if it's a family of products) in Device Manager, you could scan for their existence that way (using a default SCCM 2007 report to boot).  Since the hardware is unique, and I'm assuming
you are doing Hardware Inventory, this is how I'd try and spot them.

  • SCCM 2007 AND Managing Laptop Connected with NetMotion (VPN) and Chameleon Cellular Connections

We could use some assistance if anyone is doing any of this.
We have mobile laptops that are used out in the field:
    They have SCCM client
    Netmotion VPN
    Chameleon Celluar Connections
    Two things:
    1) Is there a piece of SCCM 2007 currently that could manage these (we see SCCM Mobile--but that appears as like smart phones, iphones, ipads, etc).  These are toughbooks (panasonic laptops) and they need to utilize several applications) .  We
need to manage these differently than laptops with Direct Access.
    2) We do not want these people receiving SCCM pushes or inventory or WSUS (this is done through our WSUS server) pushes while on cellular network.  When they come back from the field and hit our wireless or connect via network, we would like them to
    receive these types of pushing throughout the night.  Problem:  They set up and configured the laptops to make this cellular Chameleon appear as a fast network and doesn't appear as a device off these laptops.  Several pushes are reg advertisements;
although we are moving to mostly task sequences.  Which most of you know a regular advertisement will allow us to stop on a slow network, but the task sequence advertisement does not have those capabilities.  So we are in a dilema.  Again that
only took care of pushes and not all the other things SCCM related we do not want to happen.
How do others handle remote toughbooks in the field on cell connections where the techs want them to appear as fast connection, yet stop SCCM packages from delivering on them or anything like inventory being done on them.
Techs are investigating a rule on Netmotion that we might put in place, we have also thought if setting up a boundary on SCCM related to these Netmotion machines being as 10.0.0.x being slow, but we are unsure how to stop everything or write a correct rule
to stop anything SCCM related while NOT connected via network or wireless?
Ideas, thoughts, pieces of SCCM 2007 that we have no invesigated, etc?

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up.
Honestly, I would look at CM12 for this. CM12 added a number of features for the exact issue.

  • SCCM 2012: clients from SCCM 2007 to 2012: software available instead of installed

    Hi,
We have migrated some Windows 7 clients from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 (in which already hundreds of working W7 clients and their apps -most of them migrated from SCCM 2007).
Now applications are shown as available instead of installed. F.e. Adobe Acrobat is installed but it shows as available.
    Please advise howto correct.

    Hi,
Does it show the right status after you click "Install" of an application?

  • Part of a migration project from SCCM 2007 to 2012 SP1 CU3 - Updates no longer working and reporting not correct

Been working on a migration from 2007 sp1 to 2012 sp1 cu3.  I first installed directly to sp1 but realized we had a few 8.1 clients being built so I added the cu3 mid-stream.  I moved over two small subnets and pushed out some clients.
I was able to push out updates from the 2012 server for OS realted updates to a collection.  After CU3 I tried to do the same process with Office 2013 updates and it just seems to sit there with the enforcement state showing unknown in the report.
Also I checked the version of client on the machines and they have the CU3 version but when I run a report to show client versions it does not show these machines with the latest version but version for sp1.  It's almost like my management point
is not working.  (just guessing).  I checked in the component status and everything is showing green.  I tried a wbemtest on one of the clients in the collection for the targeted updates and that is coming back with acceptable results.
Not sure where to look next.
I am not real proficient in 2012 yet and still bumping my way along.  Any help reviewing specific logs, etc. would be appreciated.  I have been searching for a solotion for several days now.

    Hi,
1.Please make sure the update deployment is show up on the Deployment tab(Assets and Compliance -> Overview -> Devices -> the specific client properties)
2.Check PolicyAgent.log on the client to see whether the specific client have received the deployment policy. If not, try to run the Actions about software updates on the Configuration Manager Properties from the client.
    3.Examine UpdatesDeployment.log, UpdatesHandler.log. UpdatesStore.log on the client.
    Best Regards,

  • SCCM 2007 and 2012 local cache folder

I have created a package with install action action that first unzips a zip file into the CCM cache folder then perfoms other actions using the unzipped files.  Would that cause any problems?   I've "heard"
should one not muck around in the Cache folder...

ConfigMgr does try to clean the cache up based on certain criteria so it's possible this may interfere with that. Best to always use a folder not controlled by a specific application like the Windows\Temp folder.

  • SCCM 2007 and F5 Big IP Application Security Manager

    Hey,
Lately I was tasked to check the option that our SCCM MP will work behind application level firewall that was designed especially for HTTP and HTTPs traffic,
The product name is Big IP ASM / Application Security Manager from "F5",
Has anyone tried placing SCCM MP behind such an appliance?

We use F5 and I know other companies that do.  Here is the problem that we see.
    1. It took a while for the team to figure out that they needed to our cert to the F5 to allow the traffic to pass.
    2. We see 500 errors every few seconds from the applicance
    3. We see problems in the MPcontrol.log since it can't contact the Microsoft NLB.  but it still works.
so yes you can do it.  It doesn't play nice with the console so ignore some of the errors it throws at you.  We have F5/big IP running for our MP NLB and SUP NLB
FYI, we are running in Native mode also...
