  • SCCM 2012 Asset intelligence: should we use it?

    Hi,
I'm looking at the asset inteliggence feature of sccm 2012. The question is if we should spend time configuring it or not.
Therefore this question: do you use it? If yes, what is the added value and can you refer to some screenshots which summarizes the features?
    Thanks.

    > spend time configuring it or not.
The time it took to ask the forum question is longer than it takes to add the role and configure it.
If you don't use it, many of the built in reports are missing data.  Just to save yourself the time of having to explain that to people using the reports is usually justification for adding the role and enabling key classes like Installed Software.
    I hope that helps,

  • SCCM 2012 Asset Intelligence Report 14A Downgrade Rights not calculated

    Hello,
In SCCM 2012 the License Reconcilation Report cannot calculate downgrade rights like it was the same problem in SCCM 2007:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrai/thread/9c6c74cb-9bdc-4a7b-92af-feca7397a5fb
I tried this solution but the view V_CAL_User isn't existing anymore in 2012 so i cannot execute this query:
    http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/idany/archive/2008/10/16/improving-microsoft-volume-licensing-reconciliation-report.aspx
So can you help me experts?
    Thanks

Yes I know this is an old post, Cal tracking has been removed from CM12 AI and no longer exists.
Also within the forum post you will notice that I say there is no downgrade right listed within CM12/CM07 AI. If you feel this is important then I suggest that you submit a connect item. Post the link back here for other to vote up.

  • Asset intelligence: inventoried software, based on add/remove programs?

    Hi,
Please clarify where asset intelligence, inventoried software gets its data: is it reading add/remove programs
(software metering is checking .exe but inventoried software ...)?

  • Asset Intelligence, Inventoried Software is empty

    Hi!
I've been spending the whole day trying to find a solution to this problem.
We have been three people looking at it, verifying every single setting there is, but "Inventoried Software" is still empty.
The classes have been marked and the clients inventory every single application.
If I run Asset Intelligence reports I get all the data, so it is inventoried. For example the report to list inventoried softwares that falls under a specific category.
The server is running CM12 R2 with CU1, but I get the same problem in my own lab that runs R2 with CU3.
I've checked every log I can find and they are looking okay, no errors, nothing.
Does someone have an answer to this?
    Best regards

Thanks for the help all! It took something neither of us had, patience!!
Today the applications has started to roll in and all is well. I've added this feature many times before, but it has never taken this long for the list to populate... It came to mind that this is the first time I've done it on the R2 version, could it be
that this is the reason it takes so long?

  • Coexistence of the SCCM 2012 R2 client and the App-V Full Infrastructure Model

Our environment currently has the App-V Full Infrastructure Model deployed with Windows 7 clients using hundreds of App-V apps.  We plan to deploy SCCM 2012 R2 to the environment.
What is the affect on our Windows 7 users when the SCCM 2012 R2 client is deployed - will their existing App-V apps (utilizing the App-V Full Infrastructure Model) continue to function? Or will SCCM 'take over' all App-V functionality?
The only documentation I can find on this is one paragraph in the App-V and ConfigMgr 2012 White Paper (http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/5/A/15AD0DD6-40A8-49E3-86D6-C21E5D0BC7F8/App-V%20and%20ConfigMgr%202012%20White%20Paper.pdf) which
    states:
Q: Is it possible to perform a phased migration from an App-V standalone or App-V Full Infrastructure
to Configuration Manager virtual application management?
A: Yes, migration to Configuration Manager virtual application management begins with deployment of
an App-V application from Configuration Manager 2012. Upon the first deployment in Configuration
Manager 2012, no new applications can be deployed via other methods, but all previously deployed
    packages will be retained.
A blog post here (http://www.applepie.se/config-mgr-2012-and-app-v) seems to indicate this is expected behavior.
But then, this contradicts what Microsoft says on the TechNet website (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj822982.aspx):
Configuration Manager begins to manage virtual applications on a client after the first deployment of a virtual application. After this, all App-V applications on the computer must be managed by Configuration Manager.
Does anyone have any opinions or experience on this? Or further information?
My Microsoft Core Infrastructure & Systems Management blog -
    blog.danovich.com.au

As soon as an App-V package is deployed to a user/device via SCCM then it takes over the management of the client on that device, therefore App-V packages coming from the App-V publishing server will no longer be deployed to that device.
I would assume that full cached apps would continue to be run on the local device but new content would no longer be deployed from it.
    Cheers

  • SCCM 2012 Admin Console deployed using APP-V v4.5.3 crashes

    Good afternoon,
I am trying to deploy the 2012 SCCM Admin Console to users via APP-V v4.5.3.
I built a clean Server 2008 R2 Standard server, ran the APP-V sequencer and created the package. Then copied the package to our APP-V server and ran the Application Virtualization Management Console to Import the Application.
Having completed the work above the SCCM Admin Console icon appears on the relevant users desktop and opens / connects to the SCCM site server successfully.
Problems arise when you begin to navigate around the SCCM Admin Console. As soon as you select anything the console crashes with the error: Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.exe has stopped working - Close the program
    Any ideas please ?
    Andrew

As far as I'm aware sequencing the ConfigMgr console is not supported. However there are blog posts on how to do this.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/appv/archive/2013/01/08/how-to-sequence-the-microsoft-system-center-2012-configuration-manager-admin-console-with-microsoft-app-v.aspx

The App-V versions in these posts are V4.6 SP1 and V5. I see that you are using V4.5.3. Perhaps this is the problem.

  • SCCM 2012 Console - slow performance when browsing in Applications Deployments

    Hi There,
we are experiencing a slow Console (SCCM 2012 R2 CU1, one Primary) if we go to Software Library > Applications and than clicking on Deployments. It takes up to 2 Minutes if we get results of the Deployments which depend to the Application. It Doesn´t
matter if there are 0 or 20 Deployments.
It only occurs if the SCCM Admins do not have full Admin rights in SCCM.
The reason must be the Security Scopes, because all Admins have full rights to be a "Application Deployment Manager".
Can somebody help me to get rid of this Problem?

  • SCCM 2012 Software Center remembered user apps

    Hi
Most of our packages are advertised to all users, only a few are advertised to machines. When a new user 'A' opens the Software Center only the packages advertised to the machine appear in the list with a status of available.
When I login as a User 'B' that has previously installed packages they appear as installed in the Software Center list, as expected.
When I re image the machine and reset the user B's profile and login as User B the applications appear in Software Center as available.
User Affinity is turned off, How can I ensure these Applications don't re appear in Software Center?
    Thanks
    Ian

I don't understand the behaviour you are referring to.
AVAILABLE deployments to USERS can be seen in the application catalog. All other deployments will be shown in Software Center. That includes REQUIRED delpoyments to users, AVAILABLE & REQUIRED to devices.
As far as I'm aware there are no exceptions

  • SCCM 2012: report for inventory of different hardware types?

    Hi,
Is there a default report which shows how much of each model (vendor, type, f.e. 24 Dell Lenovo, 80 Dell ...) we have in our company?
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

    Hi Jan
I have used this SQL Query when I am doing projects to get an overview of models by manufactor.
    select
    GSCS.Manufacturer0 as [Manufacturer],
    GSCS.Model0 as [Model],
    count(*) as [Count]
    from v_R_System RS
    left join v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM GSCS on RS.ResourceID = GSCS.ResourceID
    Group by GSCS.Model0, GSCS.Manufacturer0
    Order by GSCS.Model0
It is not a report in itself, but If you create a new empty report in ConfigMgr 2012 and open it with Report builder, you can use this query to built a very basic "Count Hardware Models by Manufactor".
But I think it will give you the information you are looking for.

  • SCCM 2012 Binary Replication - 4GB size limit on Applications?

    Hi there,
We have been struggling with updating our Autodesk applications, all of which are 8-12 GB in size. Anytime we update the sources files, SCCM appears to do a FULL update of all source files across our WAN links, instead of a delta replication. I understand
binary replication is enabled by default for Applications, but I was told by a 3rd party vendor that binary replication only works on Applications up to 4GB in size. Anything larger, and it is a full source file update everytime. I have not come across this
in any documentation, and would like to know if this is indeed true.
Thanks for your feedback on this,
    Rich

I was able to add a hotfix to our Autodesk C3D 2015 package, and update content this weekend. Binary replication did work as we would expect it to. It created a content TAR file of ~100MB, located in SMSPKGSIG folder, as well as a Content folder in
SCCMContentLib\DataLib of the same size, and only sent that amount of data out to all our sites. I verified it reviewing
It still took over 48 hours for all 60 sites in our environment, and would like to know if that is because the size of the Application is so big (11Gb with 25K files included), that it just takes a long time for SCCM to compare the changes made with the
rest of the Application before updating itself properly? Does that make sense?
    Thanks, Rich

  • Asset Intelligence Third Party Import File with multiple PO# for Same Software Title.

A customer of mine ask me if there is a way to import third-party license information to SCCM 2012 Asset Intelligence that contain multiple POs either from same or different vendors using one line per PO.  I try using the following test input file but
if fails.  If I only use a single line it works.
    Name,Publisher,Version,Language,EffectiveQuantity,PONumber,ResellerName,DateOfPurchase,SupportPurchased,SupportExpirationDate,Comments
    Adobe Reader XI (11.0.07)  MUI,Adobe Systems,11,English,3,CS10087281,XYZ,2/1/2013,,,
    Adobe Reader XI (11.0.07)  MUI,Adobe Systems,11,English,7,CS10087293,XYZ,6/1/2014,,,
    Adobe Reader XI (11.0.07)  MUI,Adobe Systems,11,English,2,CS10087451,RTR,7/1/2014,,
The customer wants to track each individual PO for auditing purposes.  It appears the error in importing the file is due to the Name field having to be unique.  One approach might be to manually totaling the licenses for a given title and adding
the POs info to the comment field.  Issue with this is the administrative overhead and limiting ability to track the individual PO/license info such as Reseller Name, Date of Order, ect.  I'm hoping for a workaround or is this a software limitation
and they have to look at a third party solution.
    Thank You in Advance

    Wally,
Thanks for the response.  So far it appears to be the case because the key field is the software name so it looks like a third party tool might be needed where SCCM provides the license usage info and the tool reconciles/normalizes against purchases.

  • App-v OSD's not getting imported to SCCM 2012

    Hi
Currently i am migrating APP-V 4.6 PACKAGES to SCCM 2012, as part of this process few OSD's of applications are not getting imported.
ex:- if application has 10 OSD then only 5 OSD are getting imported.
Since App-v 4.6 was earlier standalone all the OSD were published to different user using different AD groups,
Do the package has to be edited again to import all OSD or manifest files has to be changed to include all OSD to get imported to SCCM 2012.
    Thanks

Open up the app in the sequencer, add the file to your scripts folder. If the script requires to be run elevated, you'll want to use the Deployment config file and use Global publishing....
If you don't need elevation you can use the User Config and won't need to publish globally.
