SCCM 2012 client not being reinstalled after OS re-image

So last spring I rolled out SCCM 2012 and set up the whole boundary group/discovery thing so that it automatically populated my device and user collections based upon Active Directory.  All of my computers (app. 750) have been available in SCCM for
a year now.  All was good - I was interacting with my comptuers and deploying software through SCCM with no issues.  Now I'm doing OS re-installs (the OS image does not have the SCCM client pre-installed) on computers.  These are computers that
were previously known to SCCM, but after restarting them with a fresh version of Windows, the SCCM client software does not get re-deployed to them.  I've let them sit for hours, days, even a week.  I have Client Push Installation configured for
the site with an account that has both rights to the SCCM server as well as local admin rights on each machine.  If I browse to that machine in its device collection (where it remains listed), I can right-click it and manually install the client.
That works just fine.  But I don't want to do that for 750 machines.  Can someone please tell me what I'm missing?  Thanks!

No I am not deleting old computer records.  I'm the only one who administers the SCCM site but we have many technicians who go out and repair computers that may involve re-imaging.  They don't always take the time to communicate each one to me.
As for using SCCM for OS deployment, we're currently using WDS because that's what we had first.  I put SCCM in place just to have a flexible way to deploy software.  My next step - probably later this summer - will be to find a way to move
imaging over to SCCM as well.  However, this is not an immediate need.  What is immediate is that we're about to re-install our Windows image on hundreds of computers starting in a week or so and none of them are getting a client after the fact.
I have client push, heartbeat discovery, and clear install flag all configured but these clients just don't get reinstalled.  If I go to their device collection and tell SCCM to manually push the client to that device, it fires right off.  So I
know it isn't an issue with admin rights within the client push settings.

  • Upgraded client not being installed after CU4 upgrade

I upgraded our SCCM 2012 R2 environment to CU4 yesterday.
If I use the auto-created packages to upgrade existing clients, it works just fine.
However - when I do a client push to a new machine, it installs the old version of the client.
I see this at the start of the ccmsetup log:   'CcmSetup version: 5.0.7958.1501' - which is encouraging, but then a few lines later, I get this:  'Retrieved site version '5.00.7958.1000' from AD for site 'PS1'' - and it then proceeds
to install the lower version of the client.
If I look at the record for the MP in the System area of AD, sure enough, it's still listed as 5.00.7958.1000 in the object attributes.
    <ClientOperationalSettings><Version>5.00.7958.1000</Version>
How do i get AD to recognise that I've upgraded so that the newer version of the client is used during client push?

If you are referring to the ccmsetup version, that's not the client version, that's simply the ccmsetup bootstrap version and is not specifically indicative of the actual client version being deployed.
'5.00.7958.1000' is correct for the MP as that corresponds to 2012 R2 and is the client version pushed by the site. Changing this in no way would affect the client agent version installed by ccmsetup. ccmsetup does not try to install the CU, as mentioned,
that's simply the version of ccmsetup, not the client agent.
This is semantics for sure, but CUs aren't upgrades, they are updates.
If you want to avoid all of this, use a startup script to deploy your client agent instead so that you can use the PATCH property and include msp for the CU during client install.

  • SCCM 2012 Clients not getting applications...

    Hi
we have windows 7 clients getting applications deployments through SCCM 2012.
it was working fine...suddenly couple of clients on the particular collection not getting the applications and nothing is displayed on the software center.
verified the Site connections and re-pushed the policyes manually through config manager.  restarted sms host agent service...still nothing is working out
getting "Policy does not yet exist on the client" in execmgr.log & CAS.log
where could be the issue? please help
    thanks
    ananth

I realize that this is an old forum post but in my search to resolve a similar policy application issue I stumbled across it and noticed that anan2k's last question wasn't answered (and I can help). First of all you can check the custom client/user configuration
in the Administration Node. By default SCCM creates a Default Client Settings and sets a priority of 10,000 though this is not deployed by default.
The policy polling interval is actually configured as one of the policies. When you create and deploy a custom client device policy you can select Client Policy as one of the custom settings and within this setting you can establish the policy polling schedule.
I have mine set to 30 minutes which may be a bit high but it generally worked for my environment.
I hope this helps a little bit though I imagine by now that you found the settings or resolved your issue. If you found a solution please post it as I am plagued by policy not applying to my clients.
    Thanks again,
    Chris Bolton

  • SCCM 2012 client not reflecting name change

I have a computer that is running the SCCM client that was recently renamed because it was moving locations (the computer names reflect department and building).  So I renamed the machine but it's still reflecting the old computer name in manager
console(it's been about 5 hours since the name change), do I need to remove the client and reinstall it to get it to update properly or should it be doing this automatically?

Use Trigger DataDiscoverRecord (DDR) update in the above post.

  • SCCM 2012 client not getting updates, processidtosessionid failed, getfileinfosize failed, createobjectasync error

I have one particular client that will not pull down patches from the site server. The ccmcache folder stays empty, nothing appears in Software Center, report Compliance 5 - Specific Computer says it needs 4 patchs and that they are approved (other computers
get these patches). Four logs look like they have messages of interest:
    ASSETADVISOR.log
several lines of "GetFileInfoVersionSize failed for the file C:\temp file under my profile path.tmp, error 2"
    MTRMGR.log
"ProcessIDtoSessionID failed for process 12345, error 80070057
No usage will be tracked for process 12345, as failed to get owner info or excecuteable file name, 80070057
No active process found with active id 12345"
this process repeats over and over
    INVENTORYAGENT.log
"Failed to get IWbemserice Ptr for for
    \\localhost\root\Microsoft\appvirt\client namespace: 8004100E
Failed to enumeate instances of Application: 8004100E
    Inventory: 12 Collection task(s) failed "
this pattern repeats over and over. I read on site that this is error set is normal, but I'm not so sure.
    INVENTORYPROVIDER.log
This line appears over and over:
"GetObjectAsync - error handling request 80041000f
    then I get:
"Fail to return error statu to the wbem user...Shutting down (error: 80041033f, Source: WMI)
CreateInstanceEnumAsync - Error handling request 80041032
CreateObjectAsync - Error handling request 8004100f"
    and it keeps repeating.
I can WMI connect to and from this box and the site server.

    In ccmexec:
"System task SMSSHA_Startup returned error code 0x87d027f
Could not instantiate COM class for a system task. CertEnrollAgentStartupTask.(0x80040154)"
    Hi,
The SMSSHA error in ccmexec.log could be ignored if you are not using NAP (network access protection).
"Failed to evaluate installed rule. UpdateID = long SID = 80080005"
Which version of Windows you're running? You could try to run System Update Readiness tool or try to reset Windows Update components.
What is the System Update Readiness Tool?
How do I reset Windows Update components?
    Best Regards,

  • DPM 2012 R2 long backup to tape job randomly fail after installing SCCM 2012 Client

    Hello,
I'm managing a two nodes 2012 R2 file server cluster that contains a 16To CSV. I'm using DPM 2012 R2 to backup this entire shared volume directly to LTO 4 tapes, the job last about 55h.
Since SCCM 2012 client has been installed(I don't manage it), the tape jobs are failing ramdomly after several hours with the error:
    Type: Tape backup
    Status: Failed
Description: The DPM service was unable to communicate with the protection agent on serverX.xxxx.xxx . (ID 52 Details: The semaphore timeout period has expired (0x80070079))

Tape Label (Barcode): File Server Tape Protection-00000230 (000043L4)
If I uninstall SCCM 2012 client, no more issue, backups succeed. I've asked our SCCM team, no specific task has been scheduled or deployed in SCCM.
I can't see anything abnormal in logs.
    Any idea?

I have disabled "Configuration Manager Maintenance" and I have also tried to set the registry value HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CCM\CcmEval\NotifyOnly to TRUE and still the same issue.
I can't find any correlated errors in the Windows event logs, task scheduler history neither in the DPM logs.
I've increased the log level of DPM by following the following procedure

Now i'm suspecting the maintenance job of Windows 2012 R2, i'll try to disabled this task. But the fact is that I don't have this backup issue if SCCM 2012 client is not installed.
I'm waiting for next logs and will keep you informed

[15:43:48] Removing windows task 'Configuration Manager Idle Detection'
From successfully installation i typically see folders created in C:\Windows\CCM\* but in this particular case there are only a couple .tmp files and other misc.  Where should i look next?  I have tried ccmsetup.exe /uninstall and then ccmsetup.exe
    /mp:<machine> SMSSITECODE=<code> /noservice and also with /service.
    I have tried winmgmt /resetrepository
I have checked that BITS service is running.
What else should i look for?
    thanks

Did someone able to find the root cause of it and able to it resolve it, i'm currently facing the same issue:
Error 1904. Module C:\Windows\CCM\DCMADQueryProvider.dll failed to register.
HRESULT -2147024703. Contact your support personnel"
    This error is not
restricted to any 1 dll but it's random like DCMADQueryProvider.dll,
    statusagent.dll, ccmcore.dll
•I'm getting this error while installing
    SCCM 2012 client.
    Steps i tried:
    1.I did try manually registering
oringinally but when the client fails to install, it removes all the source
files including the ccmcore.dll. So, ccmcore.dll doesn't reside on the system
after failing to install the client or at least not that I can see.
    2. I
have tried timing it just right so that my "regsvr32 ccmcore.dll" is run during
the install process while the file is in the CCM folder but that didnt work
    either.
    3. I had manually created the directory CCM\x64\ccmcore.dll and
copied the file from a working client and try to register but it gave me an
error " Failed to load .dll"
    4. i have tried uninstalling the client from
ccmclean and tried to reinstall it but still it fails.
Currently not sure what is wrong with the client install, so still
investigating the issue, please help if someone was able to solve the issue.
    There are some
articles out there which points to resolving this issue by registering
    ATL.dll.
    However, in this
case ATL.dll has been registered only 1 times using regsvr32.exe (system32 and
    syswow64 folders).
    Based on procmon :
    HKCR\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{44EC053A-400F-11D0-9DCD-00A0C90391D3}\InprocServer32\
While installing, it was looking for ATL.DLL and found the location from
    registry as "“%systemroot%\system32\atl.dll”

  • Send SCCM 2012 client or re-send client to individual computer

We have a tech tools web portal and I need to add an item so techs can send the SCCM 2012 client to a machine. This will be used if they have to reinstall the client for some reason.
I had planned to use PowerShell and created the script only to find out that it requires too great a permissions role to connect to the SCCM drive so the cmdlets can be used.
I then thought I could just create a .CCR for a computer. But, the format for SCCM 2007 does not work for SCCM 2012.
Reasons we are approaching this in this manner are:
    1) We want to install using the CURRENT client files. And, we don't want to copy those off to some other location and need to remember to update them when we update SCCM 2012.
    2) We want the retry capability that comes with using .CCRs.
    3) We want the "smartness" of the client install we have found. We have a distributed operation and doing the client install by an SCCM admin from the PowerShell script or via the right-click in the console allows SCCM to find the closest DP and
use client install files from a local source when available.
    4) We have a LOT of desktop techs that we do not want having access to the SCCM console. There is just too high a learning curve. We want a simple tool.
One other thing to mention ... we cannot use the Generate CCR tool because we are not turning on client push (lots of valid reasons for this and some the SCCM admins don't think are valid, but the decision has been made for us :) )
Anyone have thoughts on how to have a simple tool to send the client install via script or .CCR?
    Thanks in advance!

You can't turn client push off -- you can turn *auto*-client push off though. The Generate CCR tool does not depend upon *auto*-client push though so there's no reason you can't use it.
Here's a blog post on the changes in the CCR process:

  • Tracing SCCM 2012 Client settings.

    Hi,
I am trying to get a better understanding of the internals of SCCM 2012 client settings. In particular I would like to find out how to trace them through the client logs so I can trace them through and via the policy spy. I have looked through the policy logs
and I can not see how to distinguish them. Can somebody tell me how I tell me how they are represented and what I should look for. So the idea being I can create a custom policy and trace it through.
    Thanks Ward

I hope, you're not here for understanding which will the resultant client settings (when you've multiple client setting deployed) applied on a particular machine/device. If this is  your question then you can see this via collection-devices and select Resultant
    Client Settings. More details http://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/library/gg682109.aspx
If you wanted to know more about how you can analyse the policies using policy spy or client spy. Here are some tips via following link.

  • SCCM 2012 does not detect MS14-001 KB2837577 as required

SCCM 2012 does not detect MS14-001 KB2837577 (Security Update for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010) as being required.  I am able to install it manually.  However, I would expect and like this to be deployed via System Center Configuration Manager.

    Hi,
You might also need to analyze the updates installation logs on the client to see whether there are any useful information. (UpdatesStore.log, UpdatesHandler.log, UpdateDeployment.log and WUAHandler.log)

  • SCCM 2012 Client delpoyment in SCCM 2007 Native world

    Hi Team,
In my account I have SCCM 2007 running in Native mode.... we do not support internet based clients there..but work on HTTPS only. Now I have implemented SCCM 2012 R2 there and now testing the client migration so that I can upgrade the SCCM client agent from
2007 to 2012. In SCCM 2012 we have to support internet based clients and so the SCCM 2012 client which we need to install should be compatible on internet and intranet both
The plan is to use the existing SCCM 2007 infra to do that. Send the ccmsetup.exe ( of SCCM 2012 ) in a package to all the clients via SCCM 2007 Software Distribution and trigger SCCM 2012 installation.
Just to do a small test I did this :
    1. Created a folder in C drive of a client machine and copied the ccmsetup.exe ( of SCCM 2012 ) in it.
    2. Tried to trigger the installation with below mentioned commandlines..... but getting error as mentioned below.... Please help.
    Command line used :
Here ABCD.contoso.org is the intranet MP and PQRS.dmzone.org is internet MP
    CCMSetup.exe /UsePKICert /NoCRLCheck smsmp=ABCD.contoso.org ccmhostname=PQRS.dmzone.org smssitecode=ABC
    CCMSetup.exe /UsePKICert /NoCRLCheck smsmp=ABCD.contoso.org smssitecode=ABC

  • SCCM 2012 Client was removed but SCCM console still showing the status as "Yes"

    Hi,
In a VM, SCCM 2012 client agent was removed and the VM was reverted back to a clean machine. SCCM console still shows the status as "Yes" even after the client agent was removed. Heartbeat Discovery is set to run every 1 hour.
    Please guide on this.
    Regards, Lorin Davis

It's kind like a person dying (sorry to be a bit morbid) -- how does the phone company know the person died? The dead person certainly can't tell them and the phone company doesn't query every person it services and ask them "are you alive?"
Thus, someone else must notify them of the person's passing. This is no different than a client agent "dying" in ConfigMgr. A ConfigMgr site never initiates communication with clients and thus something else needs to tell the site that the client
agent is dead. You! Or, an automated process (as Torsten mentioned) that goes through automatically marks a client as "dead" that hasn't been heard from in x number of days.

  • Deploying SCCM 2012 Client over DirectAccess

I have not been able to successfully deploy the SCCM 2012 client to any DirectAccess clients when they are not connected to the internal network.  I have migrated my collections from SCCM 2007 and all machines connected internally had no issues.  I
have added the new SCCM server to the Infrastructure Servers configuration on the UAG and applied the Group Policy.  In the CCM logs, I am seeing "the device %computername% does not exist on the network" although I can ping them.  The client push
account is a local admin on the machines so I am at a loss as to why they can't connect.  Could it be boundary related?
