SCCM 2012 database issue /question

Hi All
We have 2 recurring errors on our Primary Server (SQL locally installed so a local database).
We have recently updated SCCM 2012 RTM -> SCCM 2012 SP1 (no CU), and we have upgraded SQL 2008 R2 (CU6) to SQL 2008 R2 SP2.
We have exactly the same issue in our TST environment.
Both errors are related to SQL
We checked the SQL server log,
The fist error:
Warning: Failure to calculate super-latch promotion threshold.
I don’t now where to search for this error also google did not provide me with some useful help, I hope someone here can help me with this one.
The second error:
This one has something to do with the stored procedure DRSMsgBuilderActivation
The activated proc '[dbo].[spDRSMsgBuilderActivation]' running on queue 'CM_XXX.dbo.ConfigMgrDRSMsgBuilderQueue' output the following:
'ERROR: Sync of type Configuration Data failed, see previous messages for details.'
And the previous message is the following :
The activated proc '[dbo].[spDRSMsgBuilderActivation]' running on queue 'CM_XXX.dbo.ConfigMgrDRSMsgBuilderQueue' output the following:
'ERROR 3961, Level 16, State 1, Procedure spDRSSendChangesForGroup, Line 1, Message: Snapshot isolation transaction failed in database 'CM_XXX' because the object accessed by the statement has been modified by a DDL statement in another concurrent transaction
since the start of this transaction.  It is disallowed because the metadata is not versioned. A concurrent update to metadata can lead to inconsistency if mixed with snapshot isolation.'
I did some checking and there is no problem with the tempdb
Also with this error I hope that someone can help me
Perhaps someone has had the same error
Regards and thx in advance
Johan

hi, one thing I did not understand is, what is the effect on the non technical side of this error?
On the technical side you can find some information in error logs. This it's what I understood.
Is your sccm server working? Or is it not even possible to finish the sccm installation?

  • SCCM 2012 PXE issues with Acer Machines?

    Hi,
I am having a strange issue with PXE trying to build a machine with a Windows 7 Task Sequence.
Ok here is the synario - I have 2 machines that do not get any offers from PXE - so I get that error No DHCP
or proxy DHCP offers were received. However if I make a bootable USB key and boot the *same* machines my
task sequence appears on the menu that I can select. (The task sequence is deployed to PXE and Media BTW).
Now it gets strange - if I take other machines and put the on the same network cable and F12 them PXE works
and I get the task sequence presented. So same PXE server - same DHCP server.
So from my logic I figure if I had a policy type problem then it would not present the task sequence when
    I try the boot usb.
Both the machines I am having issues with are ACER btw if people know of any know issues. I am starting
to suspect I have faulty hardware etc. One machine is a Acer Travelmate P633-V Laptop and the other machine is
    Acer Veriton VS6620G desktop.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this - it seem very strange.
My environment is SCCM 2012 SP1 btw.
Is there something I am missing here :)
    Thanks,
    Ward.

    Hi,
Thanks for all the sugestions. I can confirm that the machines
when an OS is on them do register the IP addresses with the DHCP/WDS server (same box). Also I can confirm the Unknown computer support is turned on the box in SCCM 2012 on the DP.
Ok but I did get one working which I can't explain why it works
    the way it does.
On the notebook if I enable secure boot (UEFI) and boot with PXE
it works :) It appears the stupid BIOS turns this on but disables
another setting called "Network Boot" which is crazy. So if
you turn both on Secure boot enabled and "Network Boot" is on it works.
Now here is the puzzle that still stumps me - switch this back to
legacy mode and no go - no PXE. Boot other non UEFI machines and
    they PXE boot.
The WDS/DHCP/SCCM DP server is Windows 2008 (all on one box) as I understand it does not support UEFI PXE - this is in Windows 2012. I don't think there is an option in SCCM 2012 for it.
So can somebody offer me a technical explination?
Is there something else I am missing?
I still am trying to work out how to get the desktop to UEFI PXE boot if this is possible.
    Thanks,
    Ward

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 issues

    Hello
I have a SCCM 2012 site configured.  This is a signle site setup.  I wanted to upgrade to SP1 but unfortanetly it isn't working.  When I try to run the update I go through the wizard and when the install is supposed to happen it just returns
to the splash screen.  Also now I can't get into the managment console.  I have tried uninstalling the console and reinstalling the console with no success.
    Please advise.

I made sure that all the permission are correct on our SQL server and they appear to be good.  I tried to run the setup again and downloaded all the files again and the same issue.  Here is the log.

  • SCCM 2012 Report Issue

    Hello,
I'm very new to SQL reporting so if this isn't the right place to ask please point in the right place. I'm comfortable enough to go into SQL Management Studio and look at the views to pull what I want for data, but when it comes to making it into a report is
where I'm still learning. I can make a report and inject the code and boom I got data but with this query I want it to only query against the selected device collection from the drop down ( I can deal with hardcoding a device collection id). I found a canned
report that has a drop drop of collections and can't put my head around what I need to do so this query doesn't query every device but rather the collection I pick in the drop down.
Can anyone give me some pointers on what to do?

I could say use a variable, but that would probably still be a bit vague. I think the following link provides a nice example of how you could do this:

  • SCCM 2012 Database Replication Monitor Child Site Details Empty

We have a Secondary site for which no data will show up under Monitoring/Database Replication/Replication Status/Child Site.  It just states "No items found." as seen in the attached pic.  All other secondary sites show various configuration parameters,
etc. on the Child Site tab.  What is blocking CM 12 from getting this information for this particular child site?  Any ideas?  Something firewall or access related maybe?

was there any solution to this? I am having the same issue with the same version of Config Manager.

  • SCCM 2012 Client issues

    Hi,
I am having issues with not all the SCCM client actions appearing in my clients.
So it might start at 11 actions - then drop down the 5 actions then go back up to 6 and then after a day go to 11. So this happens
after an OSD build. So I might build 12 machines at a site and get 4 with this issue. As well some machines will take an extended
time to install the same app from the same collection. Some will quickly others will take a few hours. (We have
machine policy set to 1 hour). And the machines are pre-populated in the SCCM collection.
BTW the task sequence to build the OS does complete successfully - so what you are seeing below is after the osd task sequence
    ends.
However they do seem to share the following error in the location services.log
Unable to retrieve AD forest + domain membership
So things seem to go south from this point onwards.

So we have extended the AD schema, and we don't see to have this issue at other sites.
    So any suggestions?

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Issues

    Hello,
I'm running into an issue where I would like to capture a reference image (not perform a build and capture). I understand we can use Capture media through usb or .iso, but is it possible to just create a TS just using "Capture the Reference Machine
steps?" I am not using MDT LIT 2013 yet.
    Thanks,

Not if you are capturing with ConfigMgr. If you absolutely do not want the CM client on there, just capture it with MDT. You can setup a capture deployment share in minutes. Most walkthroughs out there show the build part as well, but its not hard to take
    those steps out.

80 port. Will this be a reason why its not downloading. When I checked with Proxy server team, they say its passing through proxy server and reaches Microsoft link in which after it gets timed out error. I presume it should be 80 port, please
    correct me.

    Hi,
Have you enabled "Require SSL communication to the WSUS server" on SUP properties?
Please have a look on a similar problem.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Configuration Manager Client Package - stuck "In Progress"

Hi Team; I’m having 2 issues with SCCM 2012 R2:
Issue 1: I'm having a strange issue with the default XXX00002 package - "Configuration Manager Client Package",
it will not deploy to the Secondary Site DP. The console is saying "In Progress" - below is the output from the
    distmgr.log file.

Issue 2: I'm trying to deploy a couple of Packages/Applications using SCCM 2012 R2 running on Win2K8 R2 with no luck, knowing that I could install the packages
on a test VM “in the DataCenter site”, but when trying to deploy the packages to production PC “in the Office Site”,
the status is packages deployment compliance stuck at 0%
    Infrastructure:
3 SCCM servers: CAS, PRI & SEC. Both CAS and PRI are in the DataCenter site, and SEC is in the Office site. The office site has several IP subnets.
Boundaries are configured through Forest Discovery “IP Ranges and AD Sites” since that the AD site should contain all the IP subnets that the AD site contains, Boundaries groups are also configured and a site reference
server is configured for each group respectively.
A OU based Collection has been configured that contains 13 PC "the collection contains the PCs that the packages should be installed.
Packages/Applications are configured correctly since that I could successfully deploy the packages to the test VM which is on the same subnet as the CAS and the PRI servers "the DataCenter subnet". The issue
is that I can't deploy the packages to production PCs in the Office subnet!
Firewall rules are configured and applied via GP, and I even turned Windows Firewall off, and still nothing! I tried to manually initiate Computer Policy download via the SCCM GUI and via a script, still no luck!
I tried configuring IP Subnet Boundaries, still no luck!!

  • SCCM 2012 DB migration - certificate chain error

    Hi all
I am having an issue with migrating an SCCM 2012 database to a new SQL instance that doesn't seem to be uncommon however have had no luck in resolving the issue with what other people have suggested on forums...I have an SCCM 2012 installation which currently
has the site database located on a co-located SQL 2012 instance. I am trying to migrate this database to a different SQL 2012 server with multiple named instances.
I have followed the instructions as per the following article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/configurationmgr/archive/2013/04/02/how-to-move-the-configmgr-2012-site-database-to-a-new-sql-server.aspx
I have backed up and restored the database to the new instance as per the guide however when running the Configuration Manager Setup Wizard I am getting the following errors:
*** Failed to connect to the SQL Server, connection type: SMS ACCESS. Configuration Manager Setup 22/04/2015 11:51:10 AM 4428 (0x114C)
INFO: SQL Connection failed. Connection: SMS ACCESS, Type: Secure Configuration Manager Setup 22/04/2015 11:51:10 AM 4428 (0x114C)

*** [08001][-2146893019][Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0]Client unable to establish connection Configuration Manager Setup 22/04/2015 11:51:13 AM 4428 (0x114C)
*** Failed to connect to the SQL Server, connection type: SMS ACCESS. Configuration Manager Setup 22/04/2015 11:51:13 AM 4428 (0x114C)
The errors will continue to pop up every 3 seconds for a few minutes before timing out and the wizard errors out.
I have tried as others suggested and performed the following with no luck:
    - added the SCCM 2012 service account (account that I'm running the Config Manager wizard as) and computer account to the local administrators group on the SQL server
    - given the SCCM 2012 service account (account that I'm running the Config Manager wizard as) sysadmin privileges to the SQL instance
    - from our internal CA I've issued a certificate for the SQL server and installed it on both the SQL and SCCM server
    - tried exporting the SCCM server cert from the SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER\Trusted People store and installed it into the Local Computer\Personal certificate store on the SQL server. Even tried installing it into the MSSQL$INST02\Personal store (INST02 being
the name of the SQL instance)
Articles that I've already referenced to try and fix this however without any luck:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/b5e1fc09-1f09-4de2-93c3-c0261fdda238/the-certificate-chain-was-issued-by-an-authority-that-is-not-trusted-when-migrating-to-sql-2012?forum=configmanagerdeployment#a294676b-d51a-4049-82cf-adde14f9711a

Does anyone have any suggestions? The ideal would solution for me would be to remove the need to use certificates for the connection to the SQL backend if that it at all possible.
    Cheers
    Brady

At this point I recommend that you connect Microsoft support CSS and ask them how to solve this problem.
IMO you shouldn't need the two certs from your internal CA but you will need the two cert from your site server.

  • SCCM 2007 & SCCM 2012 on same forest. Not AD publishing

We have SCCM 2007. MP is published on not DNS Windows Server (not AD). SiteCode=A00.
We're going to deploy SCCM 2012. MP will be published on same not DNS Windows Server (not AD). SiteCode=B00.
So, on DNS will be two entries.
During migration, we will remove boundaries on SCCM 2007 and add them to SCCM 2012.
My question is: How does SCCM client list MP on DNS ?? Alphabetical order ??  When it finds some MP, i supposed that it tries to connect one to one until finds a good boundary... not ??

if bounday is present only in single site & you use SCCM Site code parameter (don't use Auto) while doing client installation there should be no issue.

  • SCCM 2012: Active Directory Group Discovery, Delta Discovery?

    Hi,
    Our scenario:
*Software is requested via a seperate system which puts AD computer objects in groups
*Software within SCCM 2012 is deployed to computer collections
*Computer collections query AD groups, in those AD groups the pc's reside
*Collections memberships run via AD query (every 20 minutes)
*We deploy an OS (Windows 7) via SCCM
*Machine policy is updates every 20 minutes
What is important: AD Group discovery is set to full discovery every 7 days, delta discovery set to 15 minutes
    So what happens:
*Pc is staged correctly with Windows 7 but software isn't coming through in time (sometimes it's there within the hour, sometimes it takes 6 hours)
*If we run a full AD Group discovery mostly software is installing immediately
*Sometimes a SCCM 2012 client machine reset policy or reinstall client solves the problem
    My questions:
*Would it be better to run full discoveries every x minutes since this always solves our problem
*Would it be better to disable the delta discovery if we do the change above to minimize AD queries
=> tried that now (full discovery every 30 minutes and disabled delta discovery) but I don't want to put to much pressure on our domain controller
*Our software collections are limited to all systems, we could limit them to a Windows 7 collection. Probably we should do that but any suggestion how to do this safely in Powershell?
    Please advise.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt
Note: what I don't get is why a full ad discovery system discovery sovles the problem since SCCM 2012 collections do a AD query, what 's the link there?

So, let me see if I get this correct for our situation:
Our own developed system puts pc’s in AD groups
SCCM 2012 polls these groups, by default 1/week full discovery then every 30 minutes a delta discovery
We deploy software to computer collections, these collections check the SCCM 2012 database every 30 minutes (collection update) Note: the query our collection do, is based upon requirement of Windows 6.1 + membership of an AD group.
The SCCM 2012 client/computer does a computer policy update every 30 minutes to see what collections it is member of and see then the software to be deployed
     2 questions:
*Our my assumptions correct? Specifically point 3.: is the query fully coming from an ad sync (or also from sccm client, f.e. Windows 6.1%)?
*Don’t we have a step to much then, wouldn’t it be better to add a direct membership of the AD group within SCCM? This direct membership would mean no query and so save us about 20 minutes (run of query)?

  • SCCm 2012 r2 Remote Control setting

    hi,
    i have SCCM 2012 r2
my question is if there are 2 client policy deployed to 1 pc "member of 2 collection" first policy allow remote full control to IT support and 2nd policy allow remote view control to Domain User.
    which one take effect?
i already made the policy and applied it and give specific normal domain user remote control security role to specific collection
but when user try to connect to any PC the remote tool ask him to supply credential.

at first place Thanks for your support and
    Patience.
sorry, i did not understand what was in the link you specified.
i know it's device setting not user setting what i need is:
    if i have  user1 and user2
i want user1 to have full remote control permission and for user2 i want him to have view only remote control. on same pc which is member at 2 collection "is it possible to do it and how?"

  • Rename SCCM SQL Database is this possible

I would like to rename the SCCM 2012 database. I found a few links explaining how to rename the SCCM Database in SCCM 2007 using a site reset but I have not found anything on SCCM 2012. http://blogs.technet.com/b/configurationmgr/archive/2009/10/27/renaming-the-configuration-manager-2007-database.aspx
Does anyone know if renaming the SCCM 2012 DB is possible. I would only like to rename it and not move it. I was able to get to the change SQL configuration options in the site reset wizard. The SQL server name could be change but the database name
was grayed out and could not be changed.
    Thank you in advanced

The reason for the rename is because we would like to use Configuration Manager 2012 Web Frontend for remote control access. This will give our Helpdesk and Desktop techs a web interface to be able to use for remote control feature without requiring the
management console installed. We used something similar in the past and was very popular in our users. The problem is that the software is looking for an SCCM DB that is named CM_OURSITECODE. When setting up our SCCM 2012
DB we used a different name for the database SCCM2012DB. I would like to  change our database name to CM_OURSITECODE so this Web Frontend software will work.
I see where it says it is supported but that is for SCCM 2007 and we are using 2012. When I try the steps in the post I can change the server name but the database name is grayed out and can't be changed. In my case I would
like to leave the server name alone and just change the database name. With the option being grayed out I'm thinking that MS has changed something to not allow DB name changes in SCCM 2012. I have not been able to find any documentation that states it is supported
    or not.
IIRC, it's not best practise to talk directly to the DB either. This vendor probably should have used the SMS Provider instead.
SMS Provider vs SQL Server: Although Configuration Manager leverages SQL Server for data storage, SQL Server is NOT the primary programming interface to Configuration Manager. The primary programming interface to Configuration Manager is the SMS Provider (WMI) - object creation and modification must be done via the SMS Provider. You should consider SQL Server as providing read-only access to Configuration Manager data for querying and reporting purposes. This is not a matter of permissions, rather matter of maintaining data integrity.
