SCCM 2012 - Deleted advertisement still trying to get installed on servers
During 2012 upgrade I managed to deploy the SP1 Cumulative update 4 - server update - package to a group of servers that don't have the configuration manager installed.
I deleted that deployment from the server group but the package is still trying to get installed multiple times a day leaving a random folder on D: (Example: D:\25234HDF344D6H72K)
Please advise on how I can sort this out, the volume is filling up with new directories
To clarify and verify, did you deploy the package or the software update?
Either way, Garth's point is valid.

Still trying to get unconfused about drives
Coming from the Mac world and using a MBP and external storage, all this talk of drives, raids, etc. is making my head spin!
I know that I will be backing up extensively and can handle the downtime/risk of losing a days data (I'm compulsive about syncing my work on backups as I make progress), so I'm probably going to be avoiding raid since I will likely have 4 drives to start with.
I'm going to have 1 x Crucial M4 256gb SSD for OS/Programs and most likely (3x) seagate barracuda xt 2tb drives in addition.
So my first question is, should I be looking at also getting a small SSD for media cache/page files, or am I fine putting this onto a regular harddrive? If I do the latter, should the harddrive have a partition for the page files/cache to help with speed? How big are these files typically? Should I reserve the entire 2tb drive for them?
I've read through the disk guide, but being a newb to a lot of this I'm still trying to get my head around it.
So far I think I want:
1. SSD for os/programs
2. Drive for page files/media cache (what else goes on here?)
3. Drive for media/input
4. Drive for export
Which drive should my project files go on again?
Any help clarifying this is much appreciated! When everybody starts taking the math of throughput my head begins spinning still. I'm starting to gain a tiny bit of understanding, but I'm trying to still keep it really simple for myself right now, as I'm building my first workstation and this is only one of many technical concerns I'm currently wrapping my head around!should the harddrive have a partition for the page files/cache to help with speed?
Partitions do not help speed. On the contrary, it reduces speed but increases wear and tear. Compare it to a large loft you have to store your stuff. You can easily walk around your loft and get the stuff you need. That is comparable to a non-partitioned disk. Now imagine that same loft, but partioned into two or more parts with a wall and a door to separate the parts. You have stuff stacked against the wall you need, so you get it, but instead of getting the other stuff you need just 1 foot behind it, you have to walk 12 feet over to the door, open it, walk 12 feet to the other stuff you need, return 12 feet to the door, close it and then go about your thing. You have just walked 36 feet, where without those partitions 1 foot would have sufficed. Not very efficient, right? Same with partitioning your disk.
The basic thought on where to put what, is to distribute disk accesses across as many disks as you have. If you have a workflow where you export only a few times, or once when finished, then put your projects and exports together. Remember that SATA is half duplex, so you can only read at one time and write at another time. You can't do both at the same time. When exporting the project is already loaded, the media need to be read and written to the export disk. -

Hi,
I've successfully (as far as I can tell) deployed SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3 and all my existing clients are showing a client version of 5.00.7804.1400. But when I setup a new client system recently I noticed that the client version was showing 5.00.7804.1000,
and not 5.00.7804.1400.
For new client systems, do I need to redeploy the packages that were created for SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3 so that the new systems get the new SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3 client?
Thanks,
NickHi,
Here's some good information to look over:
http://sccmfaq.wordpress.com/2013/09/24/sccm-2012-include-cu-in-osd/
I haven't followed these instructions myself, since I haven't really had any good reason to include CUs during the initial installation process. I use this method instead and I've never run into any problems:

SCCM 2012 SP1 and Exchange 2013 Connector Get-Recipient cmdlet failed
I have been trying to get my Exchange Connector working with SCCM 2012 SP1 for a week or so now. Every post tells me that the Get-Recipient cmdlet failed is a security permissions error. I have given the service account running the connector full Exchange
Server Management rights including Recipient Management and Organization View-Only. I have even tested remote power shell to the CAS server and run the cmdlet with no issues.
For some reason it just does not want to work for me. Has anyone been running into this issue?Now before you read the following error and say oh this is a permission issue I am telling you it is not. I have given the account full Exchange admin rights and I have even tested the Get-Recipient cmdlet remotely to the Exchange server and it works with
no issues. I have also noticed multiple forum posts with the exact same issues.
I have noticed one thing that stands outs "Cannot bind parameter 'Filter' to the target. Exception setting "Filter": "The value "$true" could not be converted to type System.Boolean"
I believe this issue may be related to changes in the powershell commands with Exchange 2013, but I do not know where or how to edit the ps1 script.
I am getting the error below:
ERROR: [MANAGED] Invoking cmdlet Get-Recipient failed. Exception: System.Management.Automation.RemoteException: Cannot bind parameter 'Filter' to the target. Exception setting "Filter": "The value "$true" could not be converted to

I have several task sequences that I deploy to lab computers that we re-image 1 or 2 times a year. The task sequences run and install specific software
for that lab after the base image deploys.
The base image is deployed using WDS without SCCM in the mix. It is a setup they we are using because of legacy business processes that just make this easier.
Then after the machine boots up and gets its SCCM policies the task sequences start running to deploy the software.
The issue I am noticing is that I have no control over what runs first and sometimes Windows Updates that are deployed via SCCM run before or in between the task
sequences that I have running. Some installs fail because of the pending Windows Update reboot, which I believe I have gotten around just by checking for it and rebooting before it installs the software. The issue is that the Windows update could
and usually is one of those lovely updates that requires multiple reboots. The second reboot is killing my task sequence.
The issue is I need to somehow force this updates to run after my task sequences or make sure they run first. The only way I can think of this is by having
priorities for the task sequences. I can't just add installing the updates to the task sequence, because the second reboot will kill my whole task sequence there too.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get around this issue? I want the machines to install the Windows updates so I can't just remove them from the collection.That's definitely the best option to do everything via the task sequence deployment.
Also, there are script available in the community to add or remove a device from a collection, see for example:
http://sccmfaq.wordpress.com/2013/05/20/sccm-2012-sp1-remove-client-from-collection-after-osd/
Keep in mind that if you want to use a script like that during the task sequence that the device running the task sequence (and by that the script) requires specific rights within ConfigMgr.

Hi,
Recently I got my Iphone unlocked. Earlier I was using it on ATT n/w. After unlock i am using it in India with a service provider here.
The problem that I am getting is, the phone was able to pick up the network and am able to make calls and messages. Data plan is still to be activated so cant confirm on that, but all the apps that were there on my phone got wiped out on its own. Since I wasnt sure as to what happend, so I reinstalled the apps today morning. I saw the apps getting installed and then left to get ready for my office. after nearly 30 mins I saw nothing was getting syncronized so disconnected the phone and left for Office. On reaching office when I checked for my usual Apps, I could see only the apple apps and none other available there. Need to know whats the issue and how to resolve it. Please can someone help me on this?I can not get to iPhone screen, so no way to get to Settings. That is the problem. When I connect phone to iTunes I get screen asking to insert SIN card. On the phone I'm getting Cinfigure screen asking Launguage , Country or Region, Wi-Fi, ( I can connect to my home wi-fi), and last screen "Activating your iPhone". After two minutes of waiting IM getting message: Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server in temporary unavailable. try connecting to iTunes or try later or contat apple.com/support.
Like I mention, I went to Bell as well Rogers store and tried to insert active SIM card with no results.
Yes, my friend unlock the phone to use with Rogers but I don't know where -
Help, still trying to get the basics of Java
OK, I'm still trying to figure out the basics and on this program decided to write small amounts of code at a time and compile them so I could learn where I was making the mistakes. I keep getting stuck I am getting 5 cannot find symbols on the following code. I've made sure I have imported the Scanner class, checked my brackets, but can't figure out why it is still giving these errors. Can you please help? Why will it not recognize "input"?
import java.util.Scanner;
public class Inventory
public static void main( String args[] )
String productNum = "";
String name = "";
int units = 0;
double amount = 0;
Scanner scan = new Scanner( System.in );
System.out.println ( "Please enter product #" );
productNum = input.next();
System.out.println ( "Please enter color name" );
name = input.next();
System.out.println ( "Please enter units on hand" );
units = input.nextInt();
System.out.println ( "Please enter dollar amount for each unit" );
amount = input.nextDouble();
System.out.println (productNum, name, units, amount);
}Doesn't it not mean that your AlbumInventory class does not define a constructor that takes zero arguments?
e.g
public class AlbumInventory {
public static void main(String [] args) {
AlbumInventory brokenInventory = new AlbumInventory(); // This will produce compile error
AlbumInventory workingInventory = new AlbumInventory(5098) // This will compile
private int id;
public AlbumInventory (int id) {
this.id = id;

Still trying to get to the NetStream Object
Hi, I am trying to get to the NetStream object so that I can listen to the NetStatusEvents. Unfortunately the code listed on:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/2725207
no longer works. Is there another way? Thanks.It can be frustrating, especially when the workflow is so different from what we are used to with video. The idea behind the structure is to let OSMF manage the stream and expose needed events on the MediaPlayer. It definitely is a different way of doing things, but most events you need can be gotten from there.
That being said, somethings require the NetStream object. You can extend the VideoElement, which is passed a NetLoader in its constructor. You can get the NetStream off the loader, though it is a good idea to check if it is there, since loader can be one of many classes that may not have the netStream property.:
if( elementLoader.hasOwnProperty( 'netStream' ) )
var netStream:NetStream = elementLoader[ 'netStream' ];
Of course, if you're using a MediaFactory, you may need to customize it to use your custom VideoElement.
Hope that helps. -
SCCM 2012: Application deployment stuck on 'Waiting to install '
I am setting up many new machines in the last month. But sometimes, when installing applications after rolling out an image. The applications wont install and display the waiting to install message. This mostly last for 1-2 hours but sometimes ever longer.
None of the logs that I have checked seem to give any indication why it will not move forward. Any
thoughts on how to troubleshoot?
For what it's worth, we are setup with a standalone primary site with one distribution point installed. SCCM 2012 SP1.

Still trying to get more space on my hard drive, how to move final cut?
Is it possible to just move final cut pro, all the videos and everything inside, to my external hard drive? My macbook pro 2012 hard drive is getting full and I think its because of all the HD video clips... I am trying to store them on my external, but not sure of the best way. Move all the events or just move the application as a whole?
It depends whether you imported with Copy Files to Final Cut Events Folder in your Import Preferences. If you did then moving the contents of Events and Projects should do the trick. One way you can check is simply move a project/event out of the Movies folder and relaunch with your external drive.
If the projects load without any issues or offline media then you can safely delete the copy on your system drive. And yes you'd need to have the external drive attached to use any Events or Projects stored there. FCPX will still launch if the drive isn't attached- it will just not load those contents. Projects and Events will default back to the system drive. -
Deleted Ichat, now trying to get it back
I had a virus on my computer which i've deleted and got my computer back to normal, but at the time my computer's memory full and had some 50kb left, and in needing to write a term paper i opted to delete ichat for the memory. now that i have like 25gb back i'd kind of like to use my isight and ichat, but in trying to download it, only ichat av 2.1 is offered and when i do that it says it can't find ichat av 2.0 and stops the download. does apple still offer 2.0 or do i have to buy a complete system update to get it back?

Thread 7:
0 libSystem.B.dylib 0x95First of all, it is important to remember that "sometimes, things happen" to computers, and that a problem that you are experiencing may be a unique set of circumstances, and not necessarily a defect in the software.
1. Is your printer driver up-to-date? If you create another printer queue for a Generic PostScript Printer, does the problem still occur?
2. Create a brand new user account and test the problem there. If printing works, then the cause of the problem is something inside your original user account, like a preference file or a cache. Use a utility like Onyx to clear cache files and test removing any preference files in <user>/LibraryPreferences that seem relevant to printing. Remove the preference to the Desktop. If the problem persists, replace the preference file. If it goes away, trash it. Note that you may need to restart after removing a pref file.
3. Reset the Printing System. In System Preferences > Print & Fax, right click on the list of printers. There will be a menu command "Reset Printing System". Note that this will delete all your print queues, and you will need to add them again.
4. Is there a crash with every document? Try changing some of the print menu options. Any reason that you are printing as an image? Try not doing that.
5. There doesn't seem to be anything reported in the crash logs, but do you have any third-party software that runs at startup, or in the background? Very often these things can interfere with many processes. -
STILL trying to get Oracle to work on linux -- HELP!!
Hi all-- a dumb newbie problem if I may:
I have Oracle 8.0.5 installed now on Linux (RH5.2).. As per the
install instructions, I created a file /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora
containing the following:
# Set ORA_HOME to be equivalent to the ORACLE_HOME
# from which you wish to execute dbstart and
# dbshut
# set ORA_OWNER to the user id of the owner of the
# Oracle database in ORA_HOME
ORA_HOME=/home/oracle/8.0.5.0.0
ORA_OWNER=oracle
if [! -f $ORA_HOME/bin/dbstart -o ! -d $ORA_HOME]
then
echo "Oracle startup: cannot start"
exit
fi
case "$1" in
'start')
# Start the Oracle databases:
su - $ORA_OWNER -c $ORA_HOME/bin/dbstart &
'stop')
# Stop the Oracle databases:
su - $ORA_OWNER -c $ORA_HOME/bin/dbshut &
esac
In the instructions, it then says:
5) Link dbora by entering:
# ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc0.d/K10dbora
# ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc2.d/S99dbora
.. this is where I am assuming it is set so that this dbora gets
executed on system boot.. correct?
Anyway, it doesn't work. First of all, I am logged in as root.
Second of all, I am assuming the # signs in there are a mistake
since they are comments in the bash shell. Third of all, if I
just try:
ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc0.d/K10dbora
It returns an error saying:
ln: cannot create symbolic link `/etc/rc0.d/K10dbora' to
'/etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora': No such file or directory
So, I tried a 'ls /etc/rc*' and I got:
init.d rc.local rc.sysinit rc1.d rc3.d rc5.d
rc rc.news rc0.d rc2.d rc4.d rc6.d
... so, rc0.d IS there... so, THEN I tried: ls /etc/rc0.d and
got:
ls: /etc/rc0.d: No such file or directory
huh?? why won't this work? does it or doesn't it exist?
Thanks for any help.
nullA very obnoxious feature of ls in many UNIXes is that
'ls foo*' will show you the contents of the
subdirectory that matches foo* without reminding you that
the file names you are seeing displayed are NOT in your
current directory but, rather, in some subdirectory whose
name happens to begin with foo (you have NO IDEA, precisely,
WHICH directory contents you are seeing.)
For example, in RedHat 5.2, do the following:
cd /etc
ls pp*
What you will (probabably) see displayed APPEARS to be a
list of files in /etc:
chap-secrets ip-down ip-up options pap-secrets
What, IN FACT, you are seeing are files in /etc/ppp.
One way to avoid this confusion is to use the -d option to ls.
'ls -dl pp*' will display one line, showing you the existence
of the directory ppp within /etc, rather than its contents.
As an exercise, also try doing: ls -dF /etc/p*
And, don't forget to thourougly read: man ls
Continuing to the specific problem at hand...

The problem here is [email protected] thinking that ls /etc/rc*
was showing him files in /etc. This was not the case. Rather,
ls /etc/rc* was showing him a list of file names in /etc/rc.d
and rc0.d in in /etc/rc.d, not in /etc.
This further implies that the Oracle instructions (as quoted by
[email protected]) are incorrect. Instead of:
ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc0.d/K10dbora
On should instead do:
ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc.d/rc0.d/K10dbora
(and similarly for other startups)
(at least this is how the file system on my RedHat 5.2 is
structured -- your milage may vary -- another somewhat
annoying issue with the different UNIXes -- but they all
still make NT amd its registry nonsense look silly)

Deleted aggregate stills tries to be configured
I had an aggregate of aggr1 made up of e1000g1 and e1000g3.
To remove aggr1 I did the following
dladm remove-aggr -d e1000g1 1
dladm remove-aggr -d e1000g3 1
dladm delete-aggr 1
rm /etc/hostname.aggr1
The switch has the port channel configuration removed as well
I created /etc/hostname.e1000g3 and rebooted the system. An ifconfig shows that e1000g3 has the correct ip address, but it is not passing traffic. When the system boots, it appears to keep trying to plumb as seen below.
Any idea what I'm missing that would cause this?

The only response I could get is "File not found..." (or similar) just before kernel decompresses. And it hangs there.
I guess, I've effectively killed bash and nothing would be executed without it.
So, this machine got reinstalled from 0.8 alpha3 and is running again... Few questions do remain but, for another thread.
Anyway, it would be nice to know what actually happened to the system with user nobody deleted. Anyone!?
(meantime I've leartn a lot on user nobody, but couldn't find the sequence of events after it is deleted.)
Cheers,
mladen
