SCCM 2012 Disk Configuration

We have purchased a Dell PowerEdge T420 with more than enough resources for our site...my main concern is with disk configuration. We will be hosting approx. 3000 Config Manager clients. We have 16 drives total in the server connected to a Dell H710P PERC
card.. Eight drives are 300GB 10K SAS and another eight are 1TB 7.2K Nearline SAS. The Nearline SAS will be used for content storage. How should I configure the other drives for OS, SCCM 2012 and SQL? My initial thought was two RAID 10 Arrays. One for OS and
CM and the other for SQL. Or Two Raid 1(One for OS and another for CM) and one RAID 10 for SQL.
Can OS and CM safely be placed on the same array? SQL will, without question, be on a separate set of disks.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thank You.

See the Disk Space Configuration for Site System Servers section in this document:

In particular, the comment that follows:
"For optimal performance, it is recommended that each line item in the above table be allocated its own dedicated RAID volume. For all data volumes (ConfigMgr and database files), best performance can be achieved using RAID
10."

  • SCCM 2012 Disk Space

    Hi
I prepare to migrate SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012, i create one server "stand -alone" (SCCM 2012), i have around 8000 clients.
    On SCCM 2007:
    Drive C: 60 Go
    Drive E:  SMSPKGE$ = 300 Go, SMSPKG = 250 Go. (Sources another server).
Did i forget something when calculating disk space?
    Thanks

My plan for a new server (4 vCPU, 32 Go RAM, C: 800 Go) just C: drive because SQL 2012 and sources packages on another server (source don't move), on C: drive install only OS and SCCM 2012?
    Hi,
    Your disk space is enough.
There is a blog talks about SCCM 2012 hardware requirements. You could have a look.

Issue 2: I'm trying to deploy a couple of Packages/Applications using SCCM 2012 R2 running on Win2K8 R2 with no luck, knowing that I could install the packages
on a test VM “in the DataCenter site”, but when trying to deploy the packages to production PC “in the Office Site”,
the status is packages deployment compliance stuck at 0%
    Infrastructure:
3 SCCM servers: CAS, PRI & SEC. Both CAS and PRI are in the DataCenter site, and SEC is in the Office site. The office site has several IP subnets.
Boundaries are configured through Forest Discovery “IP Ranges and AD Sites” since that the AD site should contain all the IP subnets that the AD site contains, Boundaries groups are also configured and a site reference
server is configured for each group respectively.
A OU based Collection has been configured that contains 13 PC "the collection contains the PCs that the packages should be installed.
Packages/Applications are configured correctly since that I could successfully deploy the packages to the test VM which is on the same subnet as the CAS and the PRI servers "the DataCenter subnet". The issue
is that I can't deploy the packages to production PCs in the Office subnet!
Firewall rules are configured and applied via GP, and I even turned Windows Firewall off, and still nothing! I tried to manually initiate Computer Policy download via the SCCM GUI and via a script, still no luck!
I tried configuring IP Subnet Boundaries, still no luck!!

  • There is a problem connectiong to the specified reporting Server SCCM 2012 SSRS

    hi,
I'm Trying to install reporting services point SCCM 2012,  I configured the
site system role without problems, but when I tried to configure the report options I get this error:
"There is a problem connectiong to the specified reporting, please check the conection and make sure SQL Reporting Service is running on the especified server. "
The reporting service is running on remote server, I'm using SQL SERVER 2008.
    Two Questions:
1: Which is the cause of the error?
2: Which right permissions must have the reporting services point account?
    Thanks.

Are you allowing port 1433 through the firewall?
Which release of SQL Server are you using and have you applied the relevant minimum CU? Details here
    http://sccmentor.wordpress.com/2013/12/31/sql-server-site-database-configuration/
Which version of SRS is installed? If 10.50.1600.1 you will need to get this updated to above 2500 level.

  • SCCM 2012 DP Migration

    Hi Team,
I have 2007 secondary site installed DP and all the package are available.
    Q.
1.What are the folders are using at the time of sccm 2012 migration.
2.I seen SMSDPpro.log in DP share and found it importing package.. where it getting package from (don't have PCK file in the local server)?
    3. After all the successful of import the very next day i saw in console it showing 65 success and 120 in progress.
When I count the SMSDPProv.log more 150 packages are imported successfully. Why my console giving wrong info.
    Thanks

    Hi ,
1.What are the folders are using at the time of sccm 2012 migration.
Sorry that I didn't get the point of this question. Do you mean which folder are used on sccm 2012 to copy the content of SCCM 2007 DP packages?
2.I seen SMSDPpro.log in DP share and found it importing package.. where it getting package from (don't have PCK file in the local server)?
The package content is SCCM 2007 flowchart is:
    1. When you add a package to a standard Distribution Point, the distmgr component is notified with the packageID.PKN in inboxes\distmgr.box.
    2. The distmgr component begins the processing of the package
    3. Distmgr establishes a connection to the DP and checks for the SMSPKGdriveletter$ share.
    4. It creates a subdirectory with the package ID in the SMSPKGC$ share.
    5. Distmgr connects to the packageID folder it created and checks if the drive has the enough free space to copy the package contents:
    6. Distmgr sets the security on the
\SMSPKGC$\<PkgID">\\<DP>\SMSPKGC$\<PkgID> folder and copies the package contents to that folder from the package source. It also copies the signature file (TAR file) to the SMSSIG$ share and sets the security on that folder:
    7. Distmgr runs the SQL query to update the status in the pkgstatus table in SQL.
    For more information, please see:
The end to end flow of distributing a ConfigMgr 2007 package to a standard DP and a Branch DP in a single site environment
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/hhoy/archive/2012/05/31/an-adventure-in-the-sccmcontentlib-single-instance-store.aspx
In SCCM 2012 or later, by default, the content is single storage and browsing to a DP does not store all the files in a package id folder where you could find an install and execute it.
For more information, please refer to:

    3. After all the successful of import the very next day i saw in console it showing 65 success and 120 in progress.
Refresh the status and close the SCCM console, reopen and see if this helps. If you are using SCCM 2012 Sp1, check this KB

  • SCCM 2012 Client Install Failing ONLY on 8.1 Machines - Advice?

    Good morning,
I've got a rather interesting situation.  We have a SCCM 2012 site configured for https, the site server is acting as the MP and DP, and we are installing the client via the SCCM 2012 Client GPO.  Our cert is an InCommon cert.  We have 4000+
Windows 7 machines that are able to install the client.  We tested on a Window 8 machine and the client install works as well.  Whenever a Windows 8.1 machine tries to install it fails.  We have checked the boundaries (we can't specify IP ranges
since we don't manage the whole network).  I can manually browse to the source files on the MP/DP.  The switches we use when installing via the GPO are /usepkicert /mp:[redacted] CCMHTTPSSTATE=63 SMSSITECODE=[redacted] SMSCACHESIZE=12288.  However,

Anyone have any idea why this is happening only on 8.1 machines?  I can't think of where else to check.  Thanks for any help.

Okay, so I installed via the following:  ccmsetup.exe /usepkicert /source:C:\Client CCMHTTPSSTATE=63 SMSSITECODE=AHC SMSCACHESIZE=12288 and the client installed.  But you're right, the CCMMessaging.log is full of https errors.  I know it's
something with the cert and I've even requested new ones from the CA.  However, why what is it about 8.1 that is causing the issues?  Like I said, we have 4000 machines using the same client authentication cert and they work.  I've cut and paste
some of the log entries.  One thing to note is the \\[redacted]\sms_ahc\client\ccmsetup.exe in the beginning was using the internet FQDN.  Everything else is using the intranet location.  Does that provide any insight as to what is going
    on?

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 issues

    Hello
I have a SCCM 2012 site configured.  This is a signle site setup.  I wanted to upgrade to SP1 but unfortanetly it isn't working.  When I try to run the update I go through the wizard and when the install is supposed to happen it just returns
to the splash screen.  Also now I can't get into the managment console.  I have tried uninstalling the console and reinstalling the console with no success.
    Please advise.

I made sure that all the permission are correct on our SQL server and they appear to be good.  I tried to run the setup again and downloaded all the files again and the same issue.  Here is the log.

    hi,
we have tried to deploy the SQL Server 2012 to our development machines with SCCM 2012 without success.

    Hello,
Please see the following article about some requirements for SQL Server instances intended for SCCM 2012:
    http://www.sqlcoffee.com/Tips0019.htm
Could please check to see if a Summary.txt log file exists after those installation attempts? The following article may help you locate the file on disk:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143702(v=sql.110)
Please share this log file with us, if possible.
    Hope this helps.

  • Configuring Reporting services for SCCM 2012

    Hi,
I just finish create SQL reporting services ( configure Database, report manager URL) in SQL 2008 R2 for SCCM 2012. When I open the Report option in SCCM console (Monitoring --> Report), no report listed there and then I try to add in Reporting service
point for it, but get an error message
"There is a problem connecting to the specific reporting server. Please check the connection and make sure SQL reporting service is running on the specified server"
I manually browse to http://sqlserver/reportserver or
http://sqlserver/reports , that is no any folder exist there (I assume when I configure reporting service it will automatic create a folder for it with all report inside?). Anyone can guide me on how to solve this issue?

  • How can I see the rest of the disk space with SCCM 2012 R2?

I can see most the elements of PCS in the report of assets intelligence function in SCCM 2012 R2 ,except for the free disk space.
Thus, I cannot be noticed when some servers  need more space.
    What should I do?

    Hi,
    Please check the following steps.
    SCCM Console -> Administration -> Client Settings -> Hardware Inventory -> Set classes -> Logical Disk(SMS_LogicalDisk) -> Free Space(MB)

  • How to configure SNMP on all managed client using SCCM 2012 SP1

    hi ,
do you know  How to configure SNMP on all managed client using SCCM 2012 SP1?

As a side note, I made an interesting discovery last week: the SNMP Service is deprecated in Windows Server 2012. Why would you want to use SNMP on an actual Windows OS though? There are far better ways available to monitor Windows. I'm sure that lines
up with why they deprecated it.

  • SCCM 2012 - App deploy - Configuring a dependency in an app which is also configured for supersedence.

    Hi there
I am replacing an app with a newer version via SCCM 2012.
So lets call the existing app App1 and the new app App2.
I have an application created which has App1 configured to be superseded (uninstall) and App2 to be installed as a msi deployment type.
The issue I have ran into is that the install/upgrade fails if App1 is currently opened and running. The uninstall only works if App1 is not opened.
Anyone had to deal with something like this before without reverting to a script deployment type which runs taskkill commands and then a msiexec /x command? Is there a more sophisticated way to do this using the new application model?
The sequence would need to be:
    1) App1 if running on the target machine is killed
    2) App1 is uninstalled
    3) App2 is installed
Anyone put anything like that together?
    Regards
    John

    Thank you for replying.
Yes the key is indeed the uninstallation command and behaviour on App1; as my question makes clear I am aware of that.
I am hoping someone has come up with a clever way of achieving such a requirement, or I will simply have to use a script, which seems a bit unsophisticated given the range of options available in the application model.
    Regards
    John

  • SCCM 2012 distribution point install failes with faild to verify disk drive

I am trying to install remote distribution point on new Windows Server 2012 standard but getting failures. here is the code:
Failed to find a valid drive on the distribution point
Failed to install DP files on the remote DP. Error code = 15
I can created files and folder manually on the server fine on the drive specified during the deployment wizard. I need to know what process SCCM 2012 goes through to verify a disk drive for usage as a remote distribution point

    Hi,
Did you ever get this fixed?
    In my case, it's a physical server with a 2x 500GB in RAID1.
Server OS is 2012. SCCM Version is 2012 SP1 cu2
The disk has been partitioned into 2 logical drives: C-Drive and D-drive
    The distmgr.log states:
failed to find a valid drive on the Distribution Point
Failed to install DP Files on the remote DP. Error Code = 15
Drive D: is not valid. Error = 15
Do you have any ideas of how SCCM evaluates drives to be correct?
I've ran a WMI Query and the partition shows as a Local Hard Disk.
Do you have any more ideas what I can check?
    Thanks!
    Filip
