SCCM 2012 error downloading EXE files updates

Created an Update Group with security updates for Windows 7, from 2014/Jan-Jun
On downloading, every update with NO-EXE files, were successful.
Every update containing EXE files got errors with this message (example with KB2871997):
Error: There was an error adding Software Update Content to the specified package for Security Update for Windows 7 (KB2871997). Check Deployment Package permissions, or the network path to the Package folder.
NOTES:
1. the target folder (to host the update EXE file) is created normally, but results empty
2. it was possible to download the EXE file updates using Internet Explorer to another folder, BUT trying to alternatively download update from this folder (as opposed to download from internet, the standard way), the same errors above result.
Thanks

Thanks, Joyce and Torsten
Got PatchDownloader.log with NO error messages,
BUT target folders result empty and SCCM Console ends operation with the error on my first post.

  • Unable to download exe files after unblocking, 404 error. handler mappings execute change prevent infopath, export to excel, and sharepoint designer from working.

I removed .exe from the block list, checked MIME types, all ok,
    I followed this solution: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010setup/thread/b380a13e-a15f-4e32-98cd-12747538ad20?prof=required
( go into IIS (I am assuming IIS 7.0) and select the particular web site and click
handler mappings and Edit feature permissions and
    uncheck the Execute box .)
It works, I can now open exe files. But it causes other major troubles so far:
    -Cannot Export Lists to Excel
-Cannot Publish and Save InfoPath forms
-Cannot edit subsites in SharePoint Designer.
Does anybody have another solution that won't disable other features? What is the best way to do it? I have SolidWorks Edrawings in .exe that needs to be accessible.
    Thank you.
Guillaume Gagnon, MCP Senior System Administrator Forensic Technology WAI Inc.

    Hi Guillaume,
As you know, if we remove the Execute permission for handle mappings, we will be able to download .exe file from SharePoint server. But as you said, this will cause other issues.
The another solution to allow to download .exe file is remove the CGI-exe handle mapping from the handle mappings directly. You may need to restart Internet Information Server(IIS). After that, we will be able to download .exe file directly.
    Open the IIS manager
Select the site from the "Sites" tree
    Double-click "Handle Mappings"
Right-click "CGI-exe", and then click "Remove"
    Thanks,

  • Safari not downloading exe files for vista

The only problem I have with Safari is that it won't save downloaded exe files. As the download finalizes, an error box pops up.
"Windows found that this file is potentially harmful.
To help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file."
I went to the Windows Security control panel to see if I could turn it off. However, it only offers help for Internet Explorer. Any help is graciously appreciated.

The hatter is correct. Safari uses the Windows "attachment manager" interface to allow virus checkers and other security software to validate downloaded files.
More info on the attachment manager:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883260
It is likely that a virus checker (or related software like Windows Defender) is flagging the files as being infected or otherwise harmful. You might want to check the AVG and Windows Defender logs to see if they indicate any problems.
Another possibility would be that your system is configured through group policy or via the registry to flag these files as high-risk, which disallows them from being opened. Refer to the Microsoft KB article above for more information.

You can do it with a windows DHCP server. The article doesn't detail how but here is one that does. I haven't done it personally but it should work.
    http://joystickjunkie.blogspot.com/2009/02/configuring-windows-2003-dhcp-for-pxe.html
You only need the script if you want to automatically get the MAC address to dynamically add leasing information to the DHCP server. In other words, You have alot of servers you want to do at one time. You can pull the MAC address from the switches and add leases to DHCP server based on those MAC's. The DHCP server then would server the boot file you want them to have. You can still manually add the MAC reservation in DHCP. You should be able to go into the BIOS and pull the MAC address of the Ethernet adapter to set the reservation in DHCP.
I don't know of a way to do this in windows. In Linux it is rather easy.
The way I do it is just add the reservation and then only have one setting in netboot services for 0.0.0.1. I then add the different OS's and given them a name. I can then just boot the server to PXE and then select the OS I want to load. You can get fancy and add the IP in the reservation to netboot. You can then tie that IP to get a specfic OS load. The problem I have with that is there is no warnings given and boom your server is toast if someone does it unintentionally.
One other thing to consider is if you have multiple nics. If you do. The kickstart loader will prompt you which one to use. So you will have to answer that prompt or you can disable all but the one you want in the BIOS. That way you just have one prompt. The one that chooses the OS. I know I have simplified it somewhat. You should be able to read the articles and get it up and running without much effort.

no longer possible to download exe files (say Cancel in the download window
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == some months

    Hello Monin.
You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

  • I cannot download exe files. I have no trouble downloading files with other extensions (ex: dta).

I have an HP Pavilion dm4-2070us computer running Windows 7.  I have the same problem with internet explorer and with Firefox.  The file seems to download but never finishes; it is not in my downloads folder.

Hello number1stat, try to temporarily disable your antivirus software and see if that helps, if it does not work then try the following.  This can occur if you have customized your Internet Options Security settings for the Internet zone, if the option, "Launching applications and unsafe files" is set to "Disable". Method 1: Reset your Security settings for the Internet zone to the default level. Go to "Control Panel -> Internet Options" (or use "Start -> Run -> inetcpl.cpl -> OK" to open "Internet Properties") then click the Security tab, select the Internet zone and click "Default level"  Method 2: Set a custom level for security in the Internet zone. Go to "Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Security (tab) -> Internet". If security is set to "High", or if you have customized the Internet zone settings, select "Custom level..." and change the single option, "Launching Applications and Unsafe Files" from 'Disable' to 'Prompt (recommended)'. If executable file downloads fail from certain sites but you are able to download exe files from other sites, check in "Internet Options -> Security - > Restricted sites -> Sites" to make sure that the problem site is not in the "Restricted sites" list, as the security level for that zone is High by default. Some Security software, including Spybot S&D, add known malware sites to that listing.

  • Upgraded SCCM 2012 SP1 to CU5 - Problem updating Endpoint Protection Client (to V4.5.216.0)

We upgraded SCCM SP1 to CU5. We got one primary site, on which we had no problems with running the CU setup. After the upgrade we pushed the new administrator console and client.
SP1 CU5 - console update -> Updated on all administrator users (50 computers)
    SP1 CU5- x64 and x86 client update -> Updated on pilot group (50 computers)
    No problems so far.
We are having troubles updating the Endpoint Protection Client version. This was V4.1.522.0 before the upgrade. When we enroll a new computer, it receives the new V4.5.216.0, which is the last version.
But we can't update our older clients. We try to deploy the software update (Update for Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 Client - 4.5.216.0 (KB2952678)) but it doesn't install. After 20 minutes, if I look in the Deployment logs, it says the installation
was successfull; but it isn't, it's still the old version.
Strange thing is, we can upgrade to an inbetween version (Update for Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 Client - 4.3.215.0 (KB2864366)). Which installs on a test client.
If I look to the cache files of the new EP Client update, and use the UpdateInstall.exe manually, the update does install. Then I see in the logfile EndpointProtectionAgent.log it still refers to the version 4.1.522.0.
EP 4.5.216.0 is installed, version is higher than expected installer version 4.1.522.0. EndpointProtectionAgent 13/01/2015 14:54:00 7808 (0x1E80)

  • SCCM 2012 CU2: Download application stay at 0%

    Hi,
Since a few days, I'm no more able to install a new packaged application. The older packages are still working and I can install it correctly.
When I try to install a new package on a client from the software center the download stay at 0%.
In the following log I found that:
    DataTransferService.log:
    [CCMHTTP] ERROR: URL=<my_server>:80/SMS_DP_SMSPKG$/Content_a0639914-557d-47dd-8ab5-3578e9cae125.1, Port=80, Options=224, Code=0, Text=CCM_E_BAD_HTTP_STATUS_CODE
Successfully sent location services HTTP failure message.
Error sending DAV request. HTTP code 404, status 'Not Found'
    GetDirectoryList_HTTP('http://<my_server>:80/SMS_DP_SMSPKG$/Content_a0639914-557d-47dd-8ab5-3578e9cae125.1') failed with code 0x87d0027e.
I use SCCM 2012 R2 CU2 on windows 2008 R2. In the monitoring tab, I see that the package has been correctly distributed and deployed. I try to redistributed the application but nothing change.
When I open the URL from the log in firefox, I also got the 404 error (http://<my_server>:80/SMS_DP_SMSPKG$/Content_a0639914-557d-47dd-8ab5-3578e9cae125.1)
My DP is configured in HTTP and I allow the client to connect anonymously.
My Boundaries typs is "Active Directory Site"
I try to rest IIS with the command "IISRESET"
The services "IIS admin Service" and "World Wide Web Publishing Service" are started.
The Physical path of the "SMS_DP_SMSPKG$" is also correct.
I verified that the files are correctly copied on the DP after the distribution.
I read a lot of blog about this king of problem but nothing help, any suggestion to resolve the problem?
    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi Joyce,
Thanks for the reply. I don't find any error on the ISS log. The only one thing that I found and that I dont understnd is:
    "<ip_server> PROPFIND /SMS_DP_SMSPKG$/Content_a0639914-557d-47dd-8ab5-3578e9cae125.1 - 80 - <client_ip> SMS+CCM+5.0 404 0 0 1402 3"
I try to redistribute and and validate it. For SCCM everything is ok but it still not working and I got the same error in "Datatransferservice.log". In "distmgr.log" there's no error.

    Hi,
You will only need the latest CU, it contains all other other CU's
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2015/02/02/now-available-cumulative-update-4-for-sc2012-r2-configmgr.aspx
I noticed a few people on the link are also experiencing the 500 internal server error.
Make sure you request the hotfix via email and click the link that comes through.
I just tried it from that link, the request came through and it worked for me.
