SCCM 2012 hierarchy CAS is down will primary sites work

hi all
SCCM 2012 hierarchy CAS is down will primary sites work and if primary site down will secondary sites work
can anyone explain this, how CAS Down will affect the functionality of other primary sites or we can still manage the clients with primary site without any problem.

Hi,
if your CAS is down, you can still work with your primary site. You will get into replication trouble and even loose data after an offline time longer than 14 days. If you know that your offline time will be shorter than those 14 days, you will not get into
trouble. This 14 day duration needs to be configured, I think the default value was 5 days.
if you have a secondary sites and loose the connection to the primary, you are not able to manage the secondary sites since the SCCM console is only connectable to primary sites and CAS. The MP on your secondary will still collect client data which will
be transmitted to the primary after an reconnect.

  • Database instance for SCCM 2012 and WSUS on a single primary site server

I am going to install SCCM 2012 and its SQL database on a single physical server. This is going to be a single primary site server. The default SQL instance will be dedicated to SCCM 2012 with no other named instances to be added on the SQL server down
    the road.
During the WSUS server role installation, there is the Database Options page asking for using (1) Windows Internal Database, (2) existing db server on this computer, or (3) an external db server.
Since SCCM 2012 doesn't share db instance with others, how should I handle the WSUS db that's going to be hosted on the same SCCM/SQL physical server? Do I really need to create a separate SQL instance just for the WSUS db?
    Thanks and regards.

Even though you can do it, it is the best practice to have SCCM 2012 and WSUS installed on separate instances.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh692394
When the Configuration Manager and WSUS databases use the same SQL Server and share the same instance of SQL Server, you cannot easily determine the resource usage between the two applications. When you use a different SQL Server instance
for Configuration Manager and WSUS, it is easier to troubleshoot and diagnose resource usage issues that might occur for each application.

  • In SCCM 2012 hierarchy client settings

In Sccm 2012 hierarchy how client settings will work in ex:CAS with two primary sites
do i have to create client settings from both the primary sites or i can create them from CAS.
    how this should be.

Client Settings are part of global data and will replicate to all primary sites and the CAS regardless of where you create them. As Peter points out though, you shouldn't generally be performing any administration on primary sites when you have a CAS though
    -- that's why it's called a "Central *Administration* Site".

  • SCCM 2012 R2 CAS or not CAS

    Hi.
Sorry for the noob question but here it goes:
We are planning to implement SCCM 2012 R2 on our organization. We have offices across the country as well as web clients. We have multiple forests and domains that are going to have a 2-ways trusted rellation with a new domain where we're installing SCCM
    as well.
The planned hierarchy is to install a primary site on each office, on a DMZ and on the new "mother" domain.
My question is, can I run reports on a primary site and get the full view of the infrastrucure and all clients, software, etc..?
Can I, from domain "A" site "A", get a report on the clients of site "B" domain "B" or is it better (or the only way) to get a CAS?
    Thanks in advance

Just to reinforce the above: NO CAS!
Nothing you have stated above requires a CAS and as pointed out, the *only* technical criteria that requires a CAS and multiple primary sites is a managed client/device
    count of 100,000+.
ConfigMgr does not in any way care that a client is in a different forest (trusted or untrusted -- the only exception is for user targeted deployments in untrusted forests because ConfigMgr has no way to know about those users).

  • SCCM 2012 hierarchy from Physical to Virtual

I have an existing standalone SCCM 2012 hierarchy on a physical server with ~ 50K clients reporting with additional servers hosting various site system roles. Now the requirement is to migrate this hierarchy on a virtual environment. Client doesn't want
to do P2V migration and wanted to have the migration done on new infra.
In current hierarchy we have client health compliance at ~90% and we have to maintain the same post migration additionally there are lot of collections, packages and deployments those needs to be successfully migrated.
Please suggest a feasible and most efficient solution for this

Client doesn't want to do P2V migration
Assuming that you have done your homework and are OK that Virtual is the way to go, the easiest way to migrate from Physical to Virtual is to carry out a P2V migration. I don't quite understand this.

  • SCCM 2012 Hierarchy design

    Hi
I am designing an SCCM 2012 environment at the moment.
We have 7 locations.  2 are data centers and have excellent links between them.  our main office is well connected to the DCs 100MB link.
All other offices have between 50 and 200 users.  All of these offices have at least 10MB links to the main office and the 2 x DCs.
I was thinking of deploying CAS and Primary Site servers in 1 DC.  Installing SQL 2008 R2 there also to support this.  Then in secondary DC installing Secondary Site Server.
For all offices with users I am planning to implement distribution points.
My main concern is that we have an 8th location that is a partner company that has a separate forest with no trust.  How can I configure that so that we can control what can be deployed but that the local staff can administer the deployments etc??
Also how will SQL work for me in this regard in the szecondary location - I know SQL Express will be used, but will Express support a large SCCM database?
    Thanks in advance!

So basically I should install a primary site in our main location and then DPs and SUPs in all other locations (aprt from the remote untrusted forest)??
    Correct.
Also what do I need to consider for DR if the main site that holds the primary site server is lost?
DR in ConfigMgr (like most other products) is backup and restore. Are you actually asking about HA and/or site resiliency?
If I do go with secondary sites, how large does the SCCM DB grow to, with 5-6K clients connected?  Im just thinking will SQL Express be able to support this?
Secondary sites do not store client information so the DB doesn't grow very large at all.

  • Help needed -- Considerations to be taken while migrating 2 different SCCM 2007 hierarchies into a single SCCM 2012 Hierarchy.

Hi, I need your help on consolidating two different SCCM 2007 infrastructures into a single SCCM 2012.
We have two different SCCM 2007 Hierarchies, Lets say 123 and ABC
About 123 SCCM 2007 -- On 123 Hierarchy, we have already started migrating clients from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012.
About ABC SCCM 2007 -- On ABC Hierarchy, This is still running on SCCM 2007 (This hierarchy only be started migrating once                                      we
    are completed migration on 123)
Out of which, we have few co located offices across the globe for both 123 and ABC. Now we are decided to replace the hardware on all these locations by removing the existing two servers (one for 123 and other for ABC,with two different Forest and domains),
and consolidate them into a single server.how can we plan/design to ensure that we covering both hierarchies SCCM clients for the operations.
===================Below are some possibilities we are discussing on================================
1.Is there any way on "System management" in AD to enable access either in 123's domain or ABC's domain.
2.Since we are planning to replace the hardware with Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V, Create two instances and migrate 123 hierarchy to SCCM 2012 and other instance will serve ABC until we start the migration on this.
    ========================================================================================
correct me, If i am in wrong direction. Please suggest me the best of doing it. Thanks in advance.
    srkr

    1) In CM 2012 you can publish data to System Management in other forest but you have to configure the permissions manually and create the forest object in the ConfigMgr console.
    2) CM07 and CM2012 instances can co-exist as long as you don't create boundary groups in CM12 for site assignment (that will cause overlapping boundaries if you still have boundaries in Cm07)

  • SCCM 2012. Clients are assigned to Secondaries Sites.

Hello everybody,  we had SCCM 2007, we killed all virtual CCM machines and created new with WServer2008 R2 for SCCM2012. In to SCCM 2007 we had one Central Primary site and 7 Children
PRIMARIES sites. Now we have 1 Primary Site and 7 secondaries(In logic reasons all new secondaries sites have same site code names as SCCM 2007 had for chidren sites). Now, when I try to join old PC(which one been
in SCCM 2007) to domain it assign to secondary site with old site code name.
     I uninstalled client like:
    C:\Windows\ccmsetup\ccmsetup.exe /uninstall,
and deleted  C:\Windows\ccmsetup, C:\Windows\ccm folders and C:\Windows\SMSCFG.INI file.
I installed client and it again assigned to same secondary site.
Command : C:\Windows\ccmsetup\ccmsetup.exe  /SMSSITECODE=WCM(PrimarySiteCode) does not work, on the client Task manager/ processes
"ccmsetup.exe" appears for 3-5 sec. and disappears. In admin console client type  is "YES", but I cannot contact with these machines.  On client Control
Panel\Configuration Manager-> General -  Assigned MP : is Secondary SiteCodeName, in Action Tab are only : Machine Policy Retrival &Evaluation Cycle and User Policy Retrival &Evaluation Cycle.
How to fix it? I cannot change it manually. I do not want to reimage all(400) computers.
    Thanks for any help.

Yes, I know Clients cannot be, by definition, assigned to a secondary site. But it is.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 CAS - Unable to sync to Microsoft Updates Sites

    Good Day SCCM Experts.
I would like to seek your help in resolving my issue in MY SCCM CAS, the problem is that CAS is unable to sync to microsoft update. The last good sync was on July 16, we have previously encountered an error and ended up reinstalling the WSUS/Software Update
    Point.
I have followed the instruction for installing the WSUS on this link:
    http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/5683-using-system-center-2012-configuration-manager-part-5-adding-wsus-adding-the-sup-role-deploying-the-configuration-manager-client-agent/
Also pls take note, CAS doesnt have any full internet access. We have only added a proxy on the internet connectivity settings.
First error we have encountered before re-installing the role:
Sync failed: UssNotFound: WebException: The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.~~at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.ReadResponse(SoapClientMessage message, WebResponse response, Stream responseStream, Boolean asyncCall).

    Hi,
According to the log, you got a HTTP 404 error, file not found.
Since it worked before, what has changed since then?
How many updates did you install after the last synchronization? Especially for update those applied to WSUS server itself.
As per the log, you are running WSUS 3.2, the update could be
    KB2720211, KB2734608, KB2828185
And this thread provides good troubleshooting step though it WSUS without SCCM:

  • User cannot connect to SCCM 2012 R2 CAS site from any location

I have a strange issue happening with only one of my users. No matter where he attempts to connect from, his console session gets hung up at
“Connecting to Site Database”.  He is the only one of my users having this issue and was able to connect up to a few days ago.  I originally thought the issue was his user profile on
our RDS server farm, so I removed his profile with no improvement.  I even tried to have him RDP to my CAS server and use the main console from there, but he gets the same result.
Any idea where I should look?
    Thanks.

I was able to get to the welcome screen but I do not have a username and password to go further. Hope this helps.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Rate Limits

I have a SCCm 2012 set up.  Got a primary site and a secondary site.  My distribution point for the secondary site is on the Secondary Site Server.  I need to set the rate limits for this distribution point.  How can I do this?  The
rate limits tab i snot available on the distribution point as this DP is on the secondary site server.  Also, if I go to Hierarchy Configuration, I do not see ADDRESSES to set it there.  How do I do this?  Thanks

It's not there because the primary site does not distribute content to a DP co-located on a secondary site server. The primary site server only distributes content to DPs in the primary site and secondary site servers. Thus, you need to configure
the rate limits going to the secondary site. This got renamed at some point but I'm pretty sure its under the File Limits node under Hierarchy configuration (this is what used to be the Addresses node but addresses didn't really make sense anymore).

  • Can we assign 2 IPs for a SCCM 2012 primary site server and use 1 IP for communicating with its 2 DPs and 2nd one for communicating with its upper hierarchy CAS which is in a different .Domain

    Hi,
Can we assign 2 IPs for a SCCM 2012 primary site server and use 1 Ip for communicating with its 2 DPs and 2nd one for communicating with its upper hierarchy CAS . ?
Scenario: We are building 1 SCCM 2012 primary site and 2 DPs in one domain . In future this will attach to a CAS server which is in different domain. Can we assign  2 IPs in Primary site server , one IP will use to communicate with its 2 DPs and second
IP for communicating with the CAS server which is in a different domain.?
    Details:
    1)Server : Windows 2012 R2 Std , VM environment .2) SCCM : SCCM 2012 R2 .3)SQL: SQL 2012 Std
    Thanks
    Rajesh Vasudevan

First, it's not possible. You cannot attach a primary site to an existing CAS.
Primary sites in 2012 are *not* the same as primary sites in 2007 and a CAS is 2012 is completely different from a central primary site in 2007.
CASes cannot manage clients. Also, primary sites are *not* used for delegation in 2012. As Torsten points out, multiple primary sites are used for scale-out (in terms of client count) only. Placing primary sites for different organizational units provides
no functional differences but does add complexity, latency, and additional failure points.
Thus, as the others have pointed out, your premise for doing this is completely incorrect. What are your actual business goals?
As for the IP Addressing, that depends upon your networking infrastructure. There is no way to configure ConfigMgr to use different interfaces for different types of traffic. You could potentially manipulate the routing tables in Windows but that's asking
    for trouble IMO.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 with CAS

    Hi
    I have SCCM 2012 R2 CU4 (on Windows 2012 R2) with SQL 2012 (on Windows 2012 R2).
we decided to install a CAS,
there he has a procedure that
allows you to attach an existing SCCM
    2012 R2 CAS?
    Thanks

Assuming you've got a good reason to install a CAS, here is the procedure to expand a stand-alone primary site with a CAS:
