SCCM 2012 installation problem..prerequisite fails

Hi there,
I am trying to install SCCM 2012 on Server 2012 and its seems that the prerequisite checker fails on 3 checks, all related to SQL.
SQL Server service running account
required SQL Server Collation
SQL Server sysadmin rights
And I wonder how exactly the installation of SCCM 2012 is looking for the SQL Server?
Is it through Active directory? What if i had 4 different SQL Servers. How can he knows where to look his server?
I do not remember that i entered during the wizard any SQL Server name.
I think i am getting those errors because, the installation can't find any SQL Server.
I have 3 Virtual machines:
1. Server 2012 as DC
2. Server 2012 as SQL Server 2012 RTM with CU3
3. Server 2012 as Sccm 2012 R2 x64
Any ideas how to troubleshoot this problem?

Try removing Use typical installation options for a stand-alone primary site option.
When using this option, Setup automatically configures the site as stand-alone primary site, uses a default installation path, a
local installation of the default instance of SQL
Server for the site database, a local management point, a local distribution point, and configures the site with English and the display language of the operating system on the
primary site server if it matches one of the languages that Configuration Manager supports.

  • Issue upon upgrading SCCM 2012 rto R2 | Prerequisites failed

    Hi,
I'm having this issue upon upgrading our current SCCM 2012 server SP1 to R2. When I reach the prerequisite checker,  it fails to detect the User State Migration Tool (USMT) installed, Windows Deployment Tools installed and Windows Preinstallation Environment
installed. I'm guessing that this is because I have the WAIK for Windows 8 and not the WAIK for Windows 8.1. So I followed the instructions from the prerequisite checker and downloaded the latest version of WAIK. When I installed the WAIK for Windows 8.1,
it prompted me that it can't be installed because WAIK for 8.1 is already installed which is kinda weird. So I tried uninstalling WAIK from the server, but I came to this error. ( see image below)
Does anyone know how to get around this problem? This is becoming a showstopper for my upgrade.

When I open the error log, here is what I saw:
I have tried to use an Enterprise account to try to uninstall the WAIK but still it failed.
I followed the workaround provided in the link you sent and I was able to uninstall WAIK. I disjoined the server to AD and uninstalled WAIK. Maybe there is a GPO policy that is blocking the uninstallation.
Thank you very much for your assistance.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - Migration TS Failed in Release Request Step with Error Code 0x80004005

    Hi
I have Upgraded my lab from SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2. Now, While I am running TS for Refresh/Replace Migration, its successfully captures all the Data & settings and can also restores all Data & settings, but at release request Step TS got failed.
In SMSTS log file error was "Release Request Failed with error code 0x80004005".
Is there any KB released by Microsoft to fix this issue?? Due to this issue I am unable to run any other TS.

I've seen a few weird scenarios with task sequences after an upgrade from SP1 to R2.
In most cases I've been able to fix these "problems" by simply creating a new task sequence, and copy all the custom steps to the new task sequence.
Also make sure to update boot images, mdt packages, usmt etc. to new versions.
So thats what I'd try first....

  • SCCM 2012 installation is adding trace flags to SQL Server

    Hi,
In my day-to-day job, I'm a SQL Server DBA, so I don't have much knowledge about SCCM.
I recently noticed when SCCM 2012 is installed, that the installation procedure is going to add 2 trace flags in the startup options of SQL Server -T4199 and -T8295.
Trace flag 4199 is known and often used, however, nobody has ever heard about the other trace flag 8295.
Can somebody help me to figure out why this trace flag is added and what it is actually doing?
    Regards
    Pieter

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?
This is not something that can be handle within forums. I recommend that you either contact CSS directly for support or your Microsoft TAM to get this answer.
But honestly why does it matter?

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Pull DP fails, works on Update Distribution Points

I'm seeing some odd behavior out of a DP, in particular around driver packages. The system is running SCCM 2012 R2.  When I create the driver package I deploy it to the DP on the Primary Site Server. That usually happens in a couple of minutes or less.
I then deploy to a remote DP configured for Pull.  This generates the log entries below in the PullDP.log. Even waiting hours doesn't seem to help. If I do a Update Distribution Points for the package, it runs successfully.  I know

We ended up changing the DP back to a standard distribution point.  That allowed the driver package to distribute successfully.  so as a result I can't access the logs any longer.
I should note for anyone who goes searching for this that we had problems with every one of our driver packages.  As I dug into it I found the contents, it looked like for some reason that it wasn't being transferred from the download location into
the final DP distribution location.  It almost looked like SCCM was ignoring driver package types.  I don't know if its a bug or just something quirky about this environment.
We were hoping to use Pull DP to handle our distributions more effectively, but we've backed off on that because of all the issues we've had with it.  I hate say it, but it appears to be another SCCM 2012 feature that sounds like a good idea, but the
implementation leaves a lot to be desired.

  • SCOM 2012 Installation problem - SQL Instance name

    Hi All
Strange problem here, I wonder if anyone else has had the same issue.
I have a two-node SQL Server 2014 (Enterprise) Database server configured with a "SQL AlwaysOn Availability Group & Listener". The listener DNS name is: sql-ag-listener
On a separate server VM I attempted to install SCOM 2012 R2 - but when it came to the setup prompt to enter the "Servername & Instance" for the SQL server / Databases it will not accept my SQL AG Listener DNS name. However if I enter any
of the two individual SQL node names (SQL1 or SQL2) then it does accept those values and proceeds with the setup wizard. I do have a DNS entry for the SQL AG name.
All VMs are hosted in Azure. The SQL Servers are in their own Cloud Service and the SCOM MS Servers are in their own Cloud service.
I tried moving one of the SCOM MS Servers to the same Cloud Service container as the SQL Servers - still the same result.
Interestingly (as a test) - I started the SCOM 2012 Installation wizard on one of the SQL Servers and it DID accept the SQL AG value as the "Servername & Instance".
No firewalls are on. The VM endpoints allow SQL port 1433. Also, I can Telnet to the SQL Servers using 'telnet > O sql-ag-listener 1433' - response = Connected....
Not sure why this wont accept my virtual SQL AG name....?
    thanks

    Hi,
As when you install SCOM on one of your SQL server, then the AG name can be resolved, so it seems like this issue related with network resolution.
On the server where you want to run SCON setup, please use NSLOOKUP command to make sure it can the AG name to an IP address.
In addition, when you run the setup, don't select reporting server, as reporting server role need to install on a SQL server holding SSRS.
We still can install SCOM on normal database, and then add them into availability group later:

  • SCCM 2012 distribution point install failes with faild to verify disk drive

I am trying to install remote distribution point on new Windows Server 2012 standard but getting failures. here is the code:
Failed to find a valid drive on the distribution point
Failed to install DP files on the remote DP. Error code = 15
I can created files and folder manually on the server fine on the drive specified during the deployment wizard. I need to know what process SCCM 2012 goes through to verify a disk drive for usage as a remote distribution point

    Hi,
Did you ever get this fixed?
    In my case, it's a physical server with a 2x 500GB in RAID1.
Server OS is 2012. SCCM Version is 2012 SP1 cu2
The disk has been partitioned into 2 logical drives: C-Drive and D-drive
    The distmgr.log states:
failed to find a valid drive on the Distribution Point
Failed to install DP Files on the remote DP. Error Code = 15
Drive D: is not valid. Error = 15
Do you have any ideas of how SCCM evaluates drives to be correct?
I've ran a WMI Query and the partition shows as a Local Hard Disk.
Do you have any more ideas what I can check?
    Thanks!

  • SCCM 2012 Report Problem

    hi there,
we are using sccm 2012 with reports functionality on SQL 2008 R2 since 2 weeks now and everything is working fine, including reports.
most of the time i monitor the reports for "Status for a specified task sequence deployment on a specific computer"
but since yesterday i noticed that i cannot see any data here anymore - all task sequence deployments (which are working fine without errors) are not shown here anymore. not only i cannot see the current deployments of computers, i am also not able to see
data for deployments we had 2 weeks ago.
there is no error; sccm 2012 reports are just showing me no data (just for 1,2 computers instead of 20 or 30).
i rebooted sccm 2012 and also took a look at the component status; no error related to reporting system and reporting service is running.
    anyone has a clue?

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

We have SCCM 2012 R2. I amm trying to start OSD task sequence from bootable media.
Hyper-v client gets DHCP ip and starts MDT bootable media, but could not find policy.
    From F8 I can ping SCCM/DP/MP server.
    What could be the cause?

Yes, this DHCP client is in the same subnet as other working clients.

  • SCCM 2012 Installation Directory Registry Key chaning automatically to Old Installation Path

    Hi Guys,
I have recently recovered SCCM 2012 SP1 CAS Site from Primary Site by reinstalling CAS site and database was replicating with Primary sites properly after CAS recovery. But we noticed that after approx. 2 hours of CAS site recovery database replication stopped.
After long digging into SCCM log files we found that SCCM installation directory was pointing to old CAS Site Installation Directory (Which was before recovery) instead of NEW Installation Directory so we changed SCCM CAS Site Installation Directory manually
to new installation path in below registry key and everything was running fine again on CAS Site.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SMS\Identification
But again when we restarted SMS_EXEUTIVE Service, SCCM Installation Directory again changed to old installation patch under above registry location and all is bad again. We are unable to figure out what is causing this and even we formatted our HDD before
    installation CAS Site.
Can anyone please help to get rid of this issue. Our while CAS site is down due to this issue.
    Thanks.

I think that you have to use the same installation directory in a site recovery scenario.

while you are at it, do see the following guides which cover many aspects of this huge product including

    http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4045-system-center-2012-configuration-manager-guides/
however as Torsten has already stated, there are many factors that need to be taken into account to produce a working Configuration Manager 2012 installation, and the guides linked to provide one way of setting things up in a lab environment, you should
always consider the benefit of hiring a good Configuration Manager consultant, there are many that are active on these forums and their experience is invaluable.
