SCCM 2012 license for managing Servers

Hi,
We want to manage windows servers with SCCM 2012. Can someone explain what are the licensing options available and how much it cost per server.

  • SCCM 2012 License Management

    Hi,
Wanted to understand the SCCM 2012 License management process, let me explain our current setup
As per my understanding, KMS captures the license count for bill-ability in SPLA.
    1. 200 plus servers in DC - managed as shared service - Licensed by Service company - KMS hosted on DC. Owned by service company.
    2. 4000 plus workstations, 20 plus servers - regional sites - managed by client themself - KMS hosted on local site. Owned by Client.
So question is, both are two different kms managing two different set of owned machines.
If i set up SCCM 2012 in data Centre, how to capture the license information?
    Thanks in advance.
    $Bug

Configuration manager has no license management process and no a KMS does not capture license counts for billability (a KMS actually stops counting at 50).
License tracking is another story and generally the built-in Asset Intelligence reports in ConfigMgr will do the job for Microsoft products. The systems must all be managed by ConfigMgr however. From there, simply instance counting is pretty trivial whether
you use the built-in reports or not though as its a simple inventory.
    Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | @jasonsandys
Okay, so SCCM asset intelligence reports are sufficient to count/calculate billability for System Centre as SPLA.
Thanks a lot for your help.

  • Need to make collection Query statement by sccm 2012 sp1 for Count of Licenses by License Status

I want to make collection Query statement by sccm 2012 sp1 for all windows activated and all non-activated windows.
    Ahmed Sherif

Have a look at the Software Licensing Product attribute classes when creating a Query - remember to choose
System Ressource when creating the Query. You would have to enable this class to be collected during Hardware Inventory. Go to
Client Settings -> Hardware Inventory ->
Set Classes -> Select Software Licensing Product.
This Class is part of the Asset Intelligence classes so you could enable it from there as well.
Another way to accomplish is to use Compliance Settings to get this information.
Create a Configuration item that query the Win32_WindowsProductActivation WMI Class, if you are using XP and the
    SoftwareLicensingProduct class for later os´s
Add this Configuration Item to a Baseline ad deploy it to your Collections as needed.
When the Baseline has been evaluated you can use this information to create query
Machines reported as compliant is actived and machines reported as Non-Compliant is not activated.
You can read about the Win32_WindowsProductActivation WMI Class here:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa394520(v=vs.85).aspx
    and the SoftwareLicensingProduct here:

  • SCCM 2012 License requirements

    Hi all
    i'm little confused with SCCM 2012 licensing , :)
i have a environment with 700 users that require SCCM services. 650 client computers 50 servers. mainly required for software update service from SCCM.
i'm going to install single-primary site server (Physical) with SQL server co-hosted. SCCM client will be deployed to 650 client computers (win 7) and 50 servers (physical).
please tell me the licenses that required for this solution (how many system center standards and client ML/ server ML)
    Asitha

    Hi,
For the clients it is easy, 1 CAL per computer, they are included in both Core CAL and Enterprise CAL if you have that for your clients.
For the Site Server there is no cost, and SQL user Rights are included so as long as you use SQL Server Standard and only use it for System Center 2012 products no SQL Server License is required.
For the servers that you will manage it is more tricky, it is based on VM's per host .. cehck this link for details.

  • SCCM 2012 Software Update Management for Windows Servers and how to automatic set SCOM maintenance mode?

    Hi,
We planning to go one level higher to automat and have more dynamic Software Update Management for Windows Servers. We have SCCM 2012 R2, SCOM 2012 R2 and SCO 2012 R2.
Our plan is to pur server in an AD-Group to get Update Schedule, from the servers will be importet to an Collection for Automatic Update and reboot. If I understand Everything right SCOM can't read AD-Group and put then in an Schedule maintenance mode. SCOM
can read reg value as exempel.
IS there any smar way to make the SCOM Maintenance Mode Schedule dynamic?
    I found this
    http://www.scom2k7.com/scom-2012-maintenance-mode-scheduler/?
    /SaiTech

You could use Orchestrator to put the servers from a specific collection, or AD group, in maintenance mode in SCOM. For an example see:

  • SQL standard 2012 licenses for SCCM 2012 R2

    Hi,
We are implementing SCCM R2 for customer, is the license for SQL standard 2012 included in price for SCCM licenses, we have around 5000 mahcines to be managed also a Secondary with express edition installed .
can secondary and primary have different version of SQL for replication ? or it should be same version?
is there a requirement for SQL standard like processor (How many number of processer can be used if this
license is free of cost for SCCM2012  (any limitations ) )  Is license cost calculated based on processor ?
also how many DB can be installed with standard on single instance ? can we use it for WSUS, MDT DB?
how will i get this SQL standard free version from Microsoft any download location.
    Please advise.
    Thanks
    Shuaib

SQL Server Standard is included with all System Center products. As Tim said CPUs are irrelevant in this case.
You can use whatever versions of SQL you like as long as they are supported. However isn't it always best to standardise.
You can install as many databases as you like as long as they are System Center related - the ones you mentioned are OK.
The customer should download SQL from their Microsoft Volume Licensing Center. If they choose the SQL that is bundled with System Center it will be pre-populated with a license key.

  • Windows Server 2012 Standard - OS licensing for physical servers

    Hi,
With Windows Server 2012 Standard, I can install the OS on up to two virtual machines.
For physical machines, how many physical servers can I install the OS on if I don't use any VMs?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Just to add, each license covers up to two physical processors. If you have more than two physical processors in a server, you need to assign additional licenses for it.
More information, please refer to the link below:

  • SCCM 2012 License On Virtual Server

I am trying to understand the Microsoft license and was wondering any of the experiences guys here can help with the scenario below.
I have a physical server with 2 physical processors and Vsphere is installed on the host.My plan is to install SCCM as a VM which will manage about 5 physical Host and 80Virtual servers. Does than mean with one datacenter license, i can increase the number
of Virtual processor and Virtual core as much as i like on the SCCM server without breaking Microsoft licensing Agreement?

    Hi,
There are no license for the SCCM Server itself you license the endpoints.
This article describes it really good,

Issue 2: I'm trying to deploy a couple of Packages/Applications using SCCM 2012 R2 running on Win2K8 R2 with no luck, knowing that I could install the packages
on a test VM “in the DataCenter site”, but when trying to deploy the packages to production PC “in the Office Site”,
the status is packages deployment compliance stuck at 0%
    Infrastructure:
3 SCCM servers: CAS, PRI & SEC. Both CAS and PRI are in the DataCenter site, and SEC is in the Office site. The office site has several IP subnets.
Boundaries are configured through Forest Discovery “IP Ranges and AD Sites” since that the AD site should contain all the IP subnets that the AD site contains, Boundaries groups are also configured and a site reference
server is configured for each group respectively.
A OU based Collection has been configured that contains 13 PC "the collection contains the PCs that the packages should be installed.
Packages/Applications are configured correctly since that I could successfully deploy the packages to the test VM which is on the same subnet as the CAS and the PRI servers "the DataCenter subnet". The issue
is that I can't deploy the packages to production PCs in the Office subnet!
Firewall rules are configured and applied via GP, and I even turned Windows Firewall off, and still nothing! I tried to manually initiate Computer Policy download via the SCCM GUI and via a script, still no luck!
I tried configuring IP Subnet Boundaries, still no luck!!

    Update:
I fixed the issue with the default XXX00002 package - "Configuration Manager Client Package", it will not deploy to the Secondary Site DP. I did that through "Update Distribution Points" option, and after a while the status was 100%.

  • SCCM 2012 Design and Management

I'll preface this by saying I dont have much experience beyond setting up a stand alone primary site for SCCM 2012.
    Here's the situation:
    1. Central Office in LA, CA with smaller offices in Texas and in SF (totaling about 4k clients)
    a. Fast 10G link to TX
    b. Slow link to SF
    2. Korea office with 500 clients (slow link)
    3. Europe office with 1500 clients (slow link)
    4. Local IT staff managing systems and software deployment in each location.
    5. Central office would like oversight and management of other regions.
If anyone could provide suggestions on hierarchy design that would be appreciated.
Originally I was going to setup a CAS and a Primary Site in the US (DPs for SF and TX), and 2 other Primary Sites for KR and EU regions (Remote DPs and what not for the smaller branches within). IT staff for each region would manage their own primary. But this
    apparently isn't ideal.
My question is how a stand-alone primary design would work in this instance? And if the primary resides in the US, would administrative users have to use the console to access the primary over the slow WAN link?
I think my confusion in design comes from whether the regional admins need direct access to the Primary site or not.
Thanks, and please excuse my ignorance.

I'm not sure what the internet cloud is there for.  Your LA Primary should be in that spot; remember those servers all need to be able to communicate with the primary, usually on the same domain.  If what you meant by that 'internet" cloud
you really meant "Our Internal Company WAN Links", then ok.  By that I mean... I presume in SF, KR, EU... there are domain controllers servicing those locations?  then it's sorta similar to CM12.
If you really *do* mean internet is how those locations are linked, no domain trusts, then what you may be looking at is pki certificates, and internet based client management.  And/Or possibly considering leveraging Intune for those clients.
Regarding console usage; either publish the console via Citrix, or publish the console as a TS App.  i.e., publish the console from citrix via a citrix server in the same datacenter as the LA Primary--and everyone uses that console (if they need to
    use the console).
fyi/off topic... my opinion.  "helpdesk" type personnel have no need to be in the console, nor does anyone who simply needs to run reports.
    Standardize. Simplify. Automate.
Correct, internal WAN links, all computers are domain joined. We will eventually move to internet management too but that seems to be something we'll tackle later down the road.
I will need to check with the other admins to see what kind of VDI we have in place.
Console access is for other admins to create/modify collections for their region, deploy software, etc. The console itself wont be made available to helpdesk/service desk.
    response to edit:
    - Correct, TX will only have a DP on a "site server" (not a secondary site).
    - link to SF would be 1GB, and change to 10GB once they move into a perm location. In my diagram they would also just receive a DP
edit 2: ok my vocab is off, when i put "site server" in the diagram i really mean "site system server"

  • SCOM 2012 SP1 UR4 management servers grey state

    Hi,
My SCOM environment is made up of the below :-
    SCOM 2012 SP1 UR4.
3 SCOM Management Servers all on Windows 2008 R2 SP1.
Shared SQL 2008 cluster with 2 Windows nodes also on same OS.
Just recently all our SCOM management servers have been flipping in and out from grey to green state.  Gateways/agents all look ok as showing green.  Alerting from agents appears normal as can see lots of them in console.
Have flushed the health state cache folder on all 3 SCOM MS's and still the same issue.
Appreciate any help on this one.

Event id: 7011 - Was your server recently patched (Installed by any automatic updates) ?
IS SCCM Configured in your MS? If Yes disable and check?
Is Windows update service running ? Stop if for one or two days and check if this issue still appears

    For Event id 20026 -
    1. Does your Operationsmanager database have enough space ? Check that first.
What is you DB size ?
How much is the free space left ?
    2. Was there any resent change in the SCOM Action accoutn password ? Or has the password expired. Try re entering the SCOM Action password by re directing your self to Administration tab --> Run as Config -- > Accounts --> SCOM Action account.
The description would be - This is the user account under which all rules run by default on the agent.
Right click and go to properties and re enter the account name and password there and check.

  • Create a query in SCCM 2012 R2 for NIC Driver Version

    Hello,
Is there a way to create a query for the specific NIC driver versions with SCCM 2012 R2? For example I can do this and other descriptors for video i.e.,
    select SMS_R_System.Name, SMS_R_System.LastLogonUserName, SMS_R_System.HardwareID, SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.Manufacturer, SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.Model, SMS_G_System_VIDEO_CONTROLLER.DriverVersion, SMS_G_System_VIDEO_CONTROLLER.Description, SMS_G_System_VIDEO_CONTROLLER.VideoProcessor
    from  SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM on SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.ResourceID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId inner join SMS_G_System_VIDEO_CONTROLLER on SMS_G_System_VIDEO_CONTROLLER.ResourceID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.Model
like "HP EliteBook Revolve 810 G2" and SMS_G_System_VIDEO_CONTROLLER.Description like "%intel%"
Is there a script that will give the version for NICs?
    Thanks Bill

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 - How many servers do I need?

I'm planning a SCCM test environment using SCCM 2012 SP1 with the goal of using DCIP 3.1. DCIP 3.1 only supports up to SCCM 2012 SP1. I'm new to SCCM and I'm planning to follow Kevin Holman's ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 -QuickStart deployment Guide (Sorry, I can't
post links on the forum yet.)
I'm using a virtual environment to build this out so I can create more machines as needed.
In the guide two systems are used, DB3 and CM1 each with designated services. Could those services be safely installed on one machine instead of two? Why choose to split the SQL and Database Services, from the Primary Site Server, Management Server, and Web
    Console Server?
    Thank you!

For a lab and most small(ish) production sites you can get away with 1 server.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Power Management - Machine Wake Up Time is Randomly Offset

We have recently migrated to SCCM 2012 R2 from SCCM 2007 R3. Since moving the clients to the SCCM 2012 R2 server I have noticed that the Power Management Wakeup Timer is not working as it used to.
Power Management is configured as follows:
    Peak Hours: 5:30AM - 6:00PM
    Wakeup Time: 5:30AM
Previously, all power management configured clients would wakeup at around 5:30AM, some a minute or so before, some a minute or so after. Now they are on SCCM 2012 R2, I'm finding that they are waking up anywhere from 5:30AM to 7:30AM. At first
I thought this was due to the Deadline Randomization settings, so I set "Disable deadline randomization" to Yes on the Computer Agent. However, the machines are still waking up at random times. To ensure the change was propagated properly,
I changed the Wakeup Time by 1 min to 5:29AM and updated policy on a few test machines, but no joy.
Does anyone know why this is occurring?
    Thanks
    Kate

    Hi,
This setting determines whether the client uses an activation delay of up to two hours to install required software updates and required applications when the deadline is reached. By default, the activation delay is disabled.
If required software updates and required applications must install without delay when the configured deadline is reached, select
    Yes for this setting.
For more infomation, please review the link below:
