SCCM 2012 Network Discovery Issue

Dear Team,
I want to discover my client less devices (routers, switches, & printers) in SCCM 2012 R2 via SNMP or Subnet Mask, we don't have DHCP in environment. How do I discover this client less devices what are the settings require on SCCM server & on
client less devices (routers, switches, & printers)

The subnet information can be retrieved from a device specified on the SNMP Devices tab or you need to configure the subnet manually in Subnet tab, then Network Discovery will query the network devices.

  • SCCM 2012 Network Discovery

    Hello,
I am being asked to find all computers on network. but not on the domain. In this case AD discovery isn't going to help me. It seems that Network Discovery should but I think I may not be understanding it correctly.
I have only information in the DHCP tab for the DHCP server. I did not enter anything into Subnets, Domains, SNMP, SNMP Devices. The network discovery ran, but it did not find systems that I know exist. I can ping one of them, for example but does not show
information in the netdisc.log for it.
Ultimately the fear is non-domain systems not being protected with some of the recent virus outbreaks like CryptoWall.
I have search the internet but mainly find references that are almost 100% to the word of Microsoft's article on discovery.

It might have something to do with the levels configured to discover. See for more information the following:

  • SCCM 2012 - Network requirements for Client communication to primary in a Cross Forest Environment

Hello, I have been trying to get some definitive answers on what network traffic is required between a client and a primary site versus a secondary in a cross forest scenario.
    Here is the scenario:
Company A has an existing SCCM 2012 primary Site. Company B (Separate Forest) has now been brought in. One subnet on each side can route to each other and using that one subnet a two way forest
trust has been setup. But the remote offices have IP address overlaps between companies. At some point in the future all assets on company B will be re-IP and brought over to Company A domain. But in the interim it would be nice to get SCCM cross forest clients
working. Upgrading to a CAS model with two Primaries would not be preferred here as this is a temporary solution.
    My questions are as follows.
If a secondary site is deployed into Company B Forest/Network. I have seen people online elude to that clients will still need to communicate to the Primary located at Company A, even though they
are assigned to a secondary on Company B’s network. Is this true? Is there any workarounds for this? Is a NAT back to the primary acceptable, or is reverse lookup required?
Will the Primary need to communicate directly to the clients in Company B? If this is in fact a requirement, then this would be a show stopper. But if its only needed for things like client pushes,
then we could work around it.
    Thanks

"But the remote offices have IP address overlaps between companies"
Technically, this is unsupported because clients, depending upon your boundaries, will not be able to find a local DP since they use IP addresses for this. The only way to work around this is to use AD Site boundaries.
"though they are assigned to a secondary"
Clients are *never* assigned to a secondary site -- that's not what secondary sites are for. Yes, clients require communication with an MP in the primary site where they are assigned. There is no way to change this or work-around this except to put
an MP from the primary site closer to those clients and use the new MP affinity option in R2 CU3.
Reverse lookups are only used to verify names by applications that wish to have this type of functionality (which are very few in number) and have nothing to do with true network traffic. NATing is an issue for the reason I gave above -- DP location.
Remote control, client push, and WoL won't work either because there is no way for the traffic to reach the destination behind the NAT.
All client *agent* communication in ConfigMgr is client initiated in ConfigMgr (remote control, client push, and WoL -- as just mentioned -- are sort of exceptions to this but they don't really involve the client *agent*.)

  • SCCM 2012 Network Access Account password problem

    Hello Everyone,
I got a problem with the Network Access Account on SCCM 2012. I didn't have any problem previously and can deploy OS successfully. The problem started last week when I tried to deploy an OS. It gave me a error on Task Sequence then I searched for the error
and found that its related with the Network Access Account. On SCCM Config Manager I checked the Network Access Account and found that I had the wrong password. But the bigger problem starts here: on configManager Administration/Security/accounts window
I open my NAS properties and on the verify window tried to reach a simple network share and it says the password is wrong, then I change the password and tried to verify one more time and it successfully reaches the share, I simply click apply and
OK as usual but when I open the properties window I always see the old password stays there. I tried to change the password maybe 100 time but I didn't work. My NAS is a normal domain account with Domain Users permissions, I ve already
checked the password, account and password never expires options, they are all rightly configured. I also tried to make a new account to use as a NAS, then I set it on SCCM as a NAS but the result is always the same. Accounts
have wrong password and I cant change and save it. Actually I can change till I close the properties window then its all gone , reset to old wrong password. Please help me with that, I am googling it like 2 days and found that the same thing happened
to 2 other people, but there is no solution...

That workaround seems to work.  Only verify when you first type the password and get the success/confirmation message.  Once you hit OK to save the password, something happens to it (probably encrypts the password entered). If you open the account
settings again, I assume SCCM takes the password from the database or task sequence in it's encrypted form and presents that in the text boxes.  Clicking OK will save the password again, but because it is presented in it's encrypted form, will re-encrypt
this as a new password and effectively change what you originally entered as the password.  Again, I'm just assuming this based on what I observed. If it's true, then definately a bug.
I think this is pretty correct. This whole (non?)-issue was a massive red-herring for me. I spent a week trying to understand what was wrong, but eventually discovered the issue was a couple of steps down the line. SCCM errors on the surface level are pretty
consistently confusing. 9 times out of ten, I have been lead astray by them. Crack open your log files, your real problems will be in there.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 ADR issue with proxy authentication

    Hi,
    We're migrating SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 R2.
In SCCM 2007, the proxy server is configured with user authentication, and this works.
In SCCM 2012 R2, the Software Update Point is installed locally and connected with a local WSUS 4.0 (Server 2012)
We use a proxy with user authentication for Update Deployment. (This user is the same as configured in SCCM 2007.)
The Proxy Server is Blue Coat SG.
The proxy account is used for:
The Synchronization works, but Automatic Deployment Rule (ADR) doesn't work.
When an Automatic Deployment Rule is started, it tries to authenticate 3 times.

It seems that the ADR uses a wrong password when authenticating with the proxy, but this same user works when synchronizing with WSUS.
We performed the following actions with no result:
run the ADR manually and automatic,
    reinstalled WSUS and SUP,
    changed proxy user account.
    Regards,
    Matthias

    Currently, the command shows:
    Current WinHTTP proxy settings:
        Direct access (no proxy server).
    We've been testing with:
    upddwnldcfg.exe /s:<proxyserver>:<port> /u:<user> /allusers
psexec -i -s iexplore.exe, set Internet Explorer proxy manually
All with same result, proxy user getting locked when ADR runs.
(These settings have been removed after the test.)
I think dekac99 would suggest netsh winhttp set proxy or import proxy.
then turn off proxy use on the role SUP (this way not SCCM will send auth but all winhttp will use proxy)
the problems with that for me are:
    - if MS implemented role-based proxy usage, why set at http layer - of course this might work as a workaround for the time being so it might be a good idea but I'm just not sure what unwanted issues it may cause
    - the other thing is where I'm not sure, with set proxy you cannot define authentication account. if you use import from IE and the IE prompted for proxy auth, the stored credential will be used on winhttp layer (though I'm not 100% sure of that) - so this
is just too uncontrolled for me
    - upddwnldcfg.exe will need to run in the name of system account (it stores credentials under HKCU so far I know it will be a per user based setting)
--> what confuses me, the catalog synch works which should use the same configured proxy and account(?), only ADR does not work. shouldn't they both use the same process for sending account auth info?

  • SCCM 2012- 2 Databases issue

We recently installed SCCM 2012 for end protection manager. Now we want to use the report services side of it. After installing the report services in SQL and attempting to map it via SCCM it will not allow me to use the primary DB since its hosted in our
DB cluster server. However, I do have a localhost SQL DB but it does not have any tables associated with it. Therefore, it will not allow me to see the server instance when attempting to add report services under add role site. Here are
some screen shots. Any help I would apprciate it. I will post pictures once my account gets verified via MS.  Thank you

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?

My Clients was installed SCCM 2007 client version but somehow those clients reporting to SCCM 2012 Server

    Best Regard's Krishna

Either, during the client installation the client was manually assigned to the ConfigMgr 2012 site (by specifying the site code), or during the client installation the client was auto assigned to the ConfigMgr 2012 site (that can only happen when there
is an overlap in the boundaries and that doesn't have to be the same type of boundary).

    Hi,
That’s very strange. How about re-run synchronization? Any changes?
If MS13-053 still cannot show up, you could also
download these updates manually, then deploy them.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 PXE Issue to Hyper-V VM Windows 7 and 8.1

    Good day
I've looked for solutions and there are very similar cases to mine but none of the solutions worked... unless I missed something...
    I'm running out of ideas.
I had an issue with my boot image drivers not wanting to distribute and I got an error every time I try to update the boot image.
So I removed all of the drivers, distributed and the error went away. Then I reloaded my network drivers and lo and behold, I can't PXE to VMs anymore!
Deploying to physical hardware works 100%, its just my virtual machines. When I deploy, it loads up my WIM file, gets to the stage
where it says preparing network connections and then it restarts without an error (basically bombs out at the part where it is supposed to start formatting the disks).
I've confirmed network connectivity by using the F8 command window.  Here is my SMSTS log file.  Any help is appreciated.
Hyper-V storage drivers maybe? Yes... before anyone asks, I am using a legacy NIC on the VM and I'm on a subnet that
    is setup in SCCM boundaries.
Logs are from x:\windows\temp\smstslog for anyone from the future reading this and having the same issue as me.
    Help would be greatly appreciated!

I found the answer! FINALLY! Solution!
So, only a couple of things you have to do:
Go to Administration in the console and go to Boundary Groups.
Right click on the item and go to properties.
    Go to the Reference tab.
And enable “Use this boundary group for site assignment” and choose for the correct site.
Also add the content location. Choose for your distribution point.
I was on a subnet that was set up in boundaries, BUT I did not assign the boundary group :-/
I hope this helps someone one day.

  • SCCM 2012 pxe boot issue

My test machines cannot PXE boot.
My lab environment is very simple:
    10.10.0.0/24 subnet
    10.10.0.5 = Server2012, DHCP, DNS, SQL Server 2008 R2 Sp2
    10.10.0.7 = Server2012, SCCM2012
All machines are Oracle VM Box virtual machines connecting through the same virtual network.
Setup the PXE service from DP properties.  I let SCCM install WDS.  WDS in Server
Manager does not have a server node, but the WDS service is running.  DP PXE tab is configured as follows:
"Enable PXE support for clients" is checked
"Allow this distribution point to respond to incoming PXE requests" is checked
"Enable unknown computer support" is checked
"Require a password when computers use PXE" is not checked
"User device affinity" is set to "Allow user device affinity with automatic approval"
PXE is configured to respond on all network interfaces
The PXE server response delay is 0 seconds
The DHCP server has options configured as follows:
    Option 66: 10.10.0.7
    Option 67: smsboot\x86\wdsnbp.com
Both DP and MP on SCCM server are configured for HTTP.
Both x86 and x64 boot images have been distributed to DP.  The media was updated after
PXE was enabled on the DP.
Both x86 and x64 boot images have "Deploy this image from the PXE service point" enabled on the Data Source tab of their properties

  • MBAM 2.5 integrated with SCCM 2012 SP1 compliance issue

    Hi,
I have installed MBAM 2.5 in a SCCM integrated topology. GPO for encryption on the OS drive only have been deployed and encryption completed using the MBAM client. When running the compliance report and evaluating using the SCCM client the compliance comes
back as non-compliant. I have tried several tweaks to the GPO but had no luck getting it to report as compliant. Using the dashboard report to try and pin point why it is non-compliant shows as non-compliant but using the reasons in the top right corner all
    have 0 instances.
Is there a log file on the local system that can tell me what aspect is causing the status?

In the Event Viewer, there is MBAM node, you will find all MBAM client events there.
Also, review your GPO and see what encryption types are allowed and which are required. Maybe one reason would be, that your GPO requires something, which your client hasn´t done yet, like PIN code.
I´ve seen issues with not being compliant to policy before, and there was some explanations of this, if you google around. I´m also intrested to get knowing this, because I couldn´t solve this compliance issue.
For customer reporting, I just did query in SCCM where I listed ecrypted status and drive letters, that was a "customized report method" to tell customer, are all their Computers encrypted or not.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - OSD issues after update to CU4

Over the weekend, I updated my SCCM environment from RTM to CU4.
All seems to have gone well, except for OSD
When attempting OSD, I receive the following error:
"An error occurred while retrieving policy for this computer (0x80004005)..."
So, a quick look over at smsts.log and I see the following:
I did some bing'in and googling around for this and found plenty of pages about this error and all pointed to incorrect BIOS times.  I checked the BIOS time on the system I was trying to image, and it was correct (including date).  Just in case,
I tried two more machines and I had the same issue.  Each machine has the correct BIOS date/time as well, so the issue I have doesn't seem related.
... and that brings me here.  Does anyone have any insight as to what might be causing the issue?
    Thanks!

I noticed two thing in your log file that are worth a check:
    I noticed a 404 error in your log file that might indicate an issue with some files that can't be found. Check the IIS log file for more information;
I noticed that you're using HTTPS. I've seen weird issues after a CU update in which the distribution point certificate got missing. In that case, check the distribution point properties and update the boot image.

I did miss the 404 message... silly me.
This definitely pointed in the right direction.  What we found was that it wasn't an issue IIS or the https certificate, but our certificate chain had issues.  We cleared out the certificate chain issues and re-installed the MP role.   This
    cleared the issue immediately.
    Thanks Peter for the guidance!

  • SCCM 2012 Client install issue

    Hi ,
I am trying to install SCCM client on one server. But the installation is keep on failing. I am not able to start or stop WMI services.
Is there any solution for this issue. Please help.
    Regards,
    MTM

    Hi,
It sounds like a reboot would be a good place to start, I have had similar issues with WMI, there are some hotfixes for WMI memory leaks and so more  that perhaps could help as well if you can restart the service after a reboot.
