SCCM 2012 OS deployment fails post loading.WIM

I am trying to install an image on a laptop - I get the PXE boot and it downloads the NBP file and starts loading the files for the .wim - it does this (I suspect) and after about 30 minutes of doing that (loading files.....) it goes to a login screen but
it is not the new image, it is what came with it.
How do I troubleshoot this.
In the smspxe.log it shows that it is looking for the bootimage HQ200005 (which corresponds to my x64 boot image) then I get some Begin validation of certificate and completed validation of certificate and then that's all.

Also, it's always a good rule of thumb to make sure you've got all your content properly distributed, boundaries and boundary groups setup and good to, and a network access account created.

  • SCCM 2012 - App deploy - Configuring a dependency in an app which is also configured for supersedence.

    Hi there
I am replacing an app with a newer version via SCCM 2012.
So lets call the existing app App1 and the new app App2.
I have an application created which has App1 configured to be superseded (uninstall) and App2 to be installed as a msi deployment type.
The issue I have ran into is that the install/upgrade fails if App1 is currently opened and running. The uninstall only works if App1 is not opened.
Anyone had to deal with something like this before without reverting to a script deployment type which runs taskkill commands and then a msiexec /x command? Is there a more sophisticated way to do this using the new application model?
The sequence would need to be:
    1) App1 if running on the target machine is killed
    2) App1 is uninstalled
    3) App2 is installed
Anyone put anything like that together?
    Regards
    John

    Thank you for replying.
Yes the key is indeed the uninstallation command and behaviour on App1; as my question makes clear I am aware of that.
I am hoping someone has come up with a clever way of achieving such a requirement, or I will simply have to use a script, which seems a bit unsophisticated given the range of options available in the application model.
    Regards
    John

Here is what I have tried. I have tried recreating the DeploymentShare. Moved my Deployment Test Share to the standard 2008 Server running MDT 2012. I have setup a Win7 x64 box as the Deployment Manager. I am still getting the following error:

Finally checked some of the Google, technet and forums for any assistance but non seem to do the trick.
I'm new to the process but have been working with a fellow tech who has been working with MDT for six months and he can not find the issue either.
Thanks for all your help up front.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 -CU3 fails at 'Create Software Update Catalog'

    Hi
I am trying to upgrade SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 to CU3 (skipping CU2) but the upgrade fails in the middle with following message in the log
Task 'Create Software Update Catalog' completed, state is 'failed' ExceptionText: Error: Setup detected an unexpected problem during installation. Error message: A valid file name is required.
    Parameter name: fileName
I have checked following article but it does not fixed mine.
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/05ddea79-ca6c-4958-bd54-ceac4b787dd9/problem-installing-sccm-2012-r2-hotfix-kb2905002-wdsosd-slowness-issue?forum=configmanagerosd
Already uninstalled CU3 and reinstalled it with no luck so I was wondering anyone has any ideas as what might be causing it?
    Thanks

    ** RESOLVED **
After attempting several times and uninstalling when it failed, finally it got installed successfully.
Since I was skipping CU2 so I thought to install that as well before installing CU3. However, the CU2 also failed at Admin Console update.  Re started installing CU3 but this time I choose not to create deployment packages for client, server and console.
Not sure if that fixed it or CU2 but I am glad its over now. After installing CU3 successfully, ran the installer again to create all required deployment packages for console, client and server.
    All looks good now.

From successfully installation i typically see folders created in C:\Windows\CCM\* but in this particular case there are only a couple .tmp files and other misc.  Where should i look next?  I have tried ccmsetup.exe /uninstall and then ccmsetup.exe
    /mp:<machine> SMSSITECODE=<code> /noservice and also with /service.
    I have tried winmgmt /resetrepository
I have checked that BITS service is running.
What else should i look for?
    thanks

Did someone able to find the root cause of it and able to it resolve it, i'm currently facing the same issue:
Error 1904. Module C:\Windows\CCM\DCMADQueryProvider.dll failed to register.
HRESULT -2147024703. Contact your support personnel"
    This error is not
restricted to any 1 dll but it's random like DCMADQueryProvider.dll,
    statusagent.dll, ccmcore.dll
•I'm getting this error while installing
    SCCM 2012 client.
    Steps i tried:
    1.I did try manually registering
oringinally but when the client fails to install, it removes all the source
files including the ccmcore.dll. So, ccmcore.dll doesn't reside on the system
after failing to install the client or at least not that I can see.
    2. I
have tried timing it just right so that my "regsvr32 ccmcore.dll" is run during
the install process while the file is in the CCM folder but that didnt work
    either.
    3. I had manually created the directory CCM\x64\ccmcore.dll and
copied the file from a working client and try to register but it gave me an
error " Failed to load .dll"
    4. i have tried uninstalling the client from
ccmclean and tried to reinstall it but still it fails.
Currently not sure what is wrong with the client install, so still
investigating the issue, please help if someone was able to solve the issue.
    There are some
articles out there which points to resolving this issue by registering
    ATL.dll.
    However, in this
case ATL.dll has been registered only 1 times using regsvr32.exe (system32 and
    syswow64 folders).
    Based on procmon :
    HKCR\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{44EC053A-400F-11D0-9DCD-00A0C90391D3}\InprocServer32\
While installing, it was looking for ATL.DLL and found the location from
    registry as "“%systemroot%\system32\atl.dll”

  • SCCM 2012 Client Install Failing ONLY on 8.1 Machines - Advice?

    Good morning,
I've got a rather interesting situation.  We have a SCCM 2012 site configured for https, the site server is acting as the MP and DP, and we are installing the client via the SCCM 2012 Client GPO.  Our cert is an InCommon cert.  We have 4000+
Windows 7 machines that are able to install the client.  We tested on a Window 8 machine and the client install works as well.  Whenever a Windows 8.1 machine tries to install it fails.  We have checked the boundaries (we can't specify IP ranges
since we don't manage the whole network).  I can manually browse to the source files on the MP/DP.  The switches we use when installing via the GPO are /usepkicert /mp:[redacted] CCMHTTPSSTATE=63 SMSSITECODE=[redacted] SMSCACHESIZE=12288.  However,
    it always fails with:

  • SCCM 2012 Task sequense fails and reboots

    Hi,
I've red a lot for this problem on the net, so first i am going to describe it, then explain the troubleshooting steps i have taken.
So i have SCCM 2012 and i am creating Build and Capture task sequence. I am using the default x64 build of SCCM 2012 R2 and i have injected the drivers in the image! I have configured everything and started VM with pxe to deploy the os. The task sequence
started and then instantly failed on Preparing network connection.
The next time i rebooted and got to the TS i presed F8 and was able to view the smsts.log In there i found the following error:
Failed to download pxe variable file. Code (0x80004005) Now correct me if i am wrong, but error 0x80004005 is Access Denied!
Next i tested my network with ipconfig and i was able to receive answer. I have ip assigned, but interesingly enough i don't have ping to my sccm 2012 server.
So i've redistributed the os, re-created the ts and the same result. Any ideas would be appritiated :)

I am trying to ping it with its ip. I set it up to a static ip 10.10.10.10
This is SCCM12 server as well as dns, dhcp, dc server :D
The machine on the other hand have ip 192.168.195.137
If it doesn't have connection to the server how is it starting the task sequence on the first place?
    I have no idea.
PS. Interesting enough i discovered that i can in fact ping the server. But what i fot in responce was not ipv4, but instead ipv6?! Does this mean that i have to set up DHCP on ipv6 with options 60, 66 and 67?

  • Sccm 2012 simulate deployment for task sequence / OS or applications

    Hi
I have been getting a lot of problems with Os/Application Task Sequences and have been asked a few questions.
I cannot find anything on the Web about Limitations for a simulated deployment in SCCM 2012.
I know SCCM allows you to create them but does it work/Are the results accurate?
I need to know the following:
Can you simulate an OS Deployment Task Sequence?
Can you simulate an Application Deployment Task Sequence?
Are there limitations to Simulated Deployments?
Thanks guys Hope this makes sense and you can help.
    Regards
    Anthony

If you have the MDT integration with SCCM 2012 you can simulate the settings used by the task sequence, but not the actual task sequence deployment. However, seeing the settings is often enough.

  • SCVMM and SCCM 2012 R2 - Deploying VM's - Which method

    Hi guys,
Looking at deploying SCCM 2012 R2 and SCVMM 2012 R2. I've used SCCM 2012 quite a lot in a previous environment, but not SCVMM.
I'm aware SCVMM is for bare-metal Hyper-V (as well as Xen and ESXi), and for managing the virtual environment, but do I create VM templates and create my VM Servers within SCVMM, or just the shell and PXE boot into a SCCM Task Sequence to deploy the OS?
Will also be running Orchestrator too.... So to deploy a VM would a runbook be used to create a VM shell in SCVMM, and then kick off a TS in SCCM?
Or should I be building the server templates and basically replicating some of SCCM's OSD capability for VM servers in SCVMM?
    Thanks - Steve

    Thx Stevehoot.
Yes, you might see that there are some "overlapping" technologies involved, but please remember that SCCM is the general approach, that has been supporting physical servers/computers since day one. This requires PXE boot for the VMs as well, in order to
deploy the OS, install the agent and then the applications.
Using VMM for VM deployment, the VMM agent will handle this all for you and you can manage your datacenter from this single console. Currently, Gen2 has lacking support in some areas, like service templates in VMM, VM roles in Azure Pack and replication
to Azure using Microsoft Azure Site Recovery.
Moving forward, it would be smart if you could invest in deployment using VMM if the majority of your workloads will be on virtual machines. What we basically sees in the field is that people are using SCCM to deploy their traditional applications onto these
servers where service templates may not be the right solution. But again, then SCCM is something that kicks in post the VM deployment.

  • SCCM 2012: PXE deploy: import boot images?

    Hi,
We fully configured sccm 2012 and did osd via bootable media. Now we want to configure PXE.
    We enabled it (http://prajwaldesai.com/deploying-sccm-2012-part-14-build-and-capture-windows-7-64-bit/).
    My questions:
*Is that all that needs to be done?
*It seems to me we need to import boot images in WDS?
*If we do, which to import then (both x86 and x64 probably) + there is a winpe and a winpe.....wim made by sccm, which one to import then?
*on DHCP we change the boot server hostname but what about the bootfile name, what is the path of that? \boot\x64\wdsnbp.com?
    Please advise.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Deployment assistance and guide lines required.

    Hi All,
We have purchased the system center suit and planed to deploy the below products in our environment.
SCOM - Plan already made and architecture is ready with no issues
    SCCM - In planning state.
We are planning to use the same SQL server for both SCOM and SCCM, Which is a SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 CU6. So the database engine service is available to host our database.
But the Business has said we need to deploy reporting on another machine which may be a SQL 2012 SP1.
What i want to know is does SCCM 2012 R2 support using different versions of SQL server for its features? As i see there is no documentation for this.
How ever MS has given the document for SCOM that it is not supported and we need to use the same version of SQL for all the features.
Also is SQL Express edition supported for other Primary sites if i use a licensed SQL in my CAS ?
Does any one have an idea on SCCM 2012 R2 for the above ?
    Gautam.75801

    Thank you very Grath.
Also my last and the remaining question is about the SQL Server version inter operability.
Does using different versions of SQL work in SCCM ? i.E I use DB Engine SQL 2008 R2 SP1 CU6 and if i use SQL 2012 R2 for reporting.
Will this work in SCCM ? As for SCOM MS has said this in there document that using different versions of SQL's for features is not supported.
So what is the case with SCCM is it the same or is it supported ?
As the Microsoft documents do not talk about this question.
The reason i asked is as the business does not have cost for Hardware for a SQL server and they are asking to use a SQL server in another domain for DB engine.
And another SQL server for reporting as the DB engine server does not have reporting.

  • SCCM 2012 - sms_notificaiton_server install fails, bgbisapi.msi could not be installed

    Hi,
installed a SCCM 2012 R2 Primary site on a 2012 R2 server on the D: drive. Everything seemed to go well, however i am am now encountering issues with the SMS_NOTIFICATION_SERVER in that the site component manager is unable to install it. The status message
viewer informs me that, "Site Component Manager failed to install this component, because the Microsoft Installer File for this component (bgbisapi.msi) could not install."

Having done a bit of reading, it seems a few other people have come accross this issue before:
    https://rikkoss.wordpress.com/2013/12/11/tip-do-not-change-the-default-installation-location-for-configmgr-2012/
    http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/7401-sms-notification-server-failed-critical-sccm-sp1-sql-2012-sp1/
The solution for these folks seems to be to edit 2 files in the .Net folder,InstallUtil.exe.config and Regsvc.exe.config,
    and insert the following code:
    <runtime>
    <loadFromRemoteSources enabled=”true”/>
    </runtime>
However, this hasn't worked for me and i'm still getting stuck with the same error messages. Since i'd really like to avoid reinstalling SCCM on the C: drive, can anyone suggest any possible solutions to this issue?
