SCCM 2012 PXE issues with Acer Machines?

Hi,
I am having a strange issue with PXE trying to build a machine with a Windows 7 Task Sequence.
Ok here is the synario - I have 2 machines that do not get any offers from PXE - so I get that error No DHCP
or proxy DHCP offers were received. However if I make a bootable USB key and boot the *same* machines my
task sequence appears on the menu that I can select. (The task sequence is deployed to PXE and Media BTW).
Now it gets strange - if I take other machines and put the on the same network cable and F12 them PXE works
and I get the task sequence presented. So same PXE server - same DHCP server.
So from my logic I figure if I had a policy type problem then it would not present the task sequence when
I try the boot usb.
Both the machines I am having issues with are ACER btw if people know of any know issues. I am starting
to suspect I have faulty hardware etc. One machine is a Acer Travelmate P633-V Laptop and the other machine is
Acer Veriton VS6620G desktop.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this - it seem very strange.
My environment is SCCM 2012 SP1 btw.
Is there something I am missing here :)
Thanks,
Ward.

Hi,
Thanks for all the sugestions. I can confirm that the machines
when an OS is on them do register the IP addresses with the DHCP/WDS server (same box). Also I can confirm the Unknown computer support is turned on the box in SCCM 2012 on the DP.
Ok but I did get one working which I can't explain why it works
the way it does.
On the notebook if I enable secure boot (UEFI) and boot with PXE
it works :) It appears the stupid BIOS turns this on but disables
another setting called "Network Boot" which is crazy. So if
you turn both on Secure boot enabled and "Network Boot" is on it works.
Now here is the puzzle that still stumps me - switch this back to
legacy mode and no go - no PXE. Boot other non UEFI machines and
they PXE boot.
The WDS/DHCP/SCCM DP server is Windows 2008 (all on one box) as I understand it does not support UEFI PXE - this is in Windows 2012. I don't think there is an option in SCCM 2012 for it.
So can somebody offer me a technical explination?
Is there something else I am missing?
I still am trying to work out how to get the desktop to UEFI PXE boot if this is possible.
Thanks,
Ward

  • SCCM 2012 Multiple Domains with a single SCCM instance

    Hello:
Can SCCM 2012 be deployed to multiple untrusted domains within a single install?
I work for a company that maintains multiple client networks all Windows Domain and non are trusted / or are even aware of the other sites.
I would like to setup a SCCM 2012 (and also a Virtual Machine Manager for HyperV) at my office and manage all my different client sites from the single SCCM server.
The connection would be from my office over the Internet in through their on prem firewall
Currently we use Centra Stage and have used Kaseya in the past. I am looking to move from them and focus on SCCM to do this for me.
Is this even possible to do with the product?
    Thanks in Advance!
    -David

Yes, ConfigMgr can manage (un)trusted forests, but what exactly do you mean with "not aware of the other sites"? A requirement is that name resolution and a connection is possible.
For some good scenario's see also this series:

  • Lion 10.7.4 issues with Virtual Machines

    Hi,
I'm having lot of issues with virtual machines (both Parallels and VMWare)
since having update to lion 10.7.4.
    I make myself:
If I switch on Mac OS a run any vitrual machine software
I can run Windows XP and Ubuntu at same time with no issue and very fluently.
But, if I switch on Mac OS and start using Eclipse, Safari 5.2 and other production stuff and
want to use vmware or paralles
they become unusable even if I quit all the tasks ans "purge" memory.
(eg: if i click start button on windows I have to wait seconds before the start menu pops up)
    Any Idea?
I have MacBook Pro 13 Unibody mid 2009 with SSD Drive AND 4GB of RAM
and I had no such issues with Lion 10.7.3

    alex_75 wrote:
As you wrote before, virtual mchines need big chunks of contigous RAM and

No, it wouldn't. 2.5 GB of free RAM could consist of 5 chunks of 500 MB of contiguous RAM, separated by RAM allocated by other processes.
Here is a hypothetical memory map. Assume a is application memory, o is operating system memory, and - is free memory.
    boot:           oooo--------------
    run app1:    ooooaao-----------
    run app2:    ooooaaoaaaaaaoo---quit app1:   oooo---aaaaaaoo---
Maybe there is some issue in the way 10.7.4, in some perticolar situations, handle the process of freeing RAM.
What you can't accept, and I don't know why, is that before the update to 10.7.4 everithing was fine.
I don't know why you don't beleve me.
There is nothing in the 10.7.4 update description that mentions a re-write of the virtual memory system. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5167
I just worte here to see if someone could give any advice to do further invesigations.
I know the price of upgrading RAM but I think that this would be a "microsoft like" solution
and I'm trying to find what service or task or whatever is creating this issue.
The only thing "Microsoft like" about buying more RAM is the fact that you need it to run your Microsoft operating systems. It has been this way as long as I can remember. I upgraded my MacBook to 4 GB RAM in 2008 just so I could run Windows more easily.
Perhaps you have your virtual memory settings too high. Depending on what you are doing in the VM, you may not need the default settings. XP will run low-intensity tasks with a 500 MB VM size. It will run just about anything in 1 GB. Linux should run fine in the same range too.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 coexist with SCCM 2007 - DPs issue

    Hi all,
I have a SCCM 2012 R2 which coexists with SCCM 2007 and I'm not interested in a migration, but my question concerning the use of DPs. Is it possible for 2012 R2 clients to use a 2007 DPs, i.e. are there settings for a sort of compatibility? I've looked among
links, but most of them are related to migration.
    Please advise,
    Domenico

No, you can only share a distribution point during a migration between a source and destination hierarchy (see also:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712275.aspx). Without a migration that's not possible.

  • OSD SCCM 2012 R2: Dart on bitlockered machine

    Hi,
Please advise on implementing dart on SCCM 2012 R2 task sequence on bitlcokered machines.
Have to start from scratch (working task sequence with bitlocker though).

    Jan Hoedt

    Hi,
Using Dart as boot image is just like the other boot images. See the steps below to add a Dart into SCCM. Please notice my first post, you need to disable Bitlocker before booting into any PE to do an OSD.

  • Anyone got Issue with Time Machine on Mac OS 10.9.5 on External Hard Drive?

Mac Book Air June 2012, Mac OS 10.9.5 (fully updated) external Hard Drive, USB 3
    Dear all,
Just realized that my regular Time Machine back-ups don’t work anymore: despite several back-ups, Time Machine tells me that I did not back-up for 10 days but I did not get any error message.
Suspected an issue with my external Hard Drive, so took a brand new one 1TB, labelled Mac OS, USB 3, sold at Apple Corner.
Registered this new drive in Time Machine, started a full back-up of about 350 Gb, and it is hanging up, 13Kb copied in one hour.....
This become very critical as I don’t have back-up since a few days....
Your help will be upmost appreciated.
    Best regards to all,
    Bernard

Temporarily turn Time Machine "off". Make sure a backup is not in progress, then rebuild the Spotlight database according to the following instructions: Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes
(summary: drag the entire source volume to the exclusions list, click OK, then remove it by clicking the minus ("–") button.)
This will have no effect on any existing backups.
Let Spotlight finish reindexing and then turn Time Machine back "on". Select "Back Up Now".

  • SCCM 2012 Site Design with multiple agency seperation

I have read through some of the other posts, and none quite seem to match my scenario.
I have a new task to design a new SCCM 2012 Site. At first I thought this was going to be easy, but it seems to have become a bit of a challenge. I have been tasked with designing and implementing a site for about 45k clients that span about 25 agencies.
all of these machines are part of a top level AD forest, but are broken into domains under that. The forest admins have to be able to mandate software/updates from the top level for all machines, but each agency will have to manage their own machines/content.
If it wasn't for the political aspect of this project, everything would be easier.
I originally thought about a CAS/PS scenario, but when I tested this, I found that every PS connected to the CAS shares everything between each other, and that will not work.
So I need to be able to design a site where each agency will be able to create/manage their own content/machines that is not shared with everything else. They need to have a feeling like they are managing their own PS. And need to have a top level that can
mandate software/updates to everything and also get a complete inventory of all machines in all agencies. Can this be done with RBA and a single site, or is there a better option for this?
At this point there is no need to consider bandwidth because most of the systems are on the same campus network, and remote DPs and other site systems can be added and adjusted as needed. I just need to know if and how this can be done best.
Please let me know if you need anymore information.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Installation with Remote SQL Instance

I am trying to install SCCM 2012 R2 and during the install it asks for your SQL Server Name.  I have a remote SQL Server which I can ping all day but the installation is telling me "The network path was not found".  I turned the firewall
off on the SQL Server and the install proceeded to the next step so that told me it was a firewall issue.
On my SQL Server I opened the following ports but still the install doesn't get through until I completely disable the firewall.
    TCP and UDP 1434
    TCP and UDP 1433
    80
    443
    TCP and UDP 135
    TCP and UDP 2383
    TCP and UDP 2382
    TCP and UDP 4022
I know this is a little excessive but its ports I've seen suggestions for to open but I'm out of ideas.  I even tried suggestions from earlier posts by Jason Sandy's to setspn and I've verified it is correct with setspn -L but still nothing.  Any
suggestions on what ports are needed during install?  As mentioned, firewall off it works great but as soon as firewall is turned on (even with ports open above) I get no where.
Be kind and Mark as Answer if I helped.

Thanks for everyone' reply's.  It is using the default instance (i'm leaving the field blank as it specifies).  I have checked SQL Server Manager and ensured that under TCP/IP and the IP Address's tab that all the IP1, IP2, IP3, IPALL has nothing
(not even a 0) in TCP Dynamic Ports and the TCP port is specified as 1433 for all those.  I even made ODBC connections that "tested successfully" to the remote sql server.  I'm just confused.
I tried netstat and didn't get any viable results but maybe i'm missing a switch.  With firewall on or off during installation it was making established connections to ports  49320, 49321, 49322, 49323, 49254, 49278, 49302, 49220, 49223, 49224,
49259, 49262, 49263, 49295, 49304, 49332, 49154 and so on.  Obviously I don't think these are relevant and just normal chatter between the two servers.  Its on a VM so i snapshotted the SQL and CM box before the install so I'm able to revert back
(or even reload both boxes if necessary).  I'm going to try a few more things but any more suggestions are more than welcome.

  • SCCM 2012 Client issues

    Hi,
I am having issues with not all the SCCM client actions appearing in my clients.
So it might start at 11 actions - then drop down the 5 actions then go back up to 6 and then after a day go to 11. So this happens
after an OSD build. So I might build 12 machines at a site and get 4 with this issue. As well some machines will take an extended
time to install the same app from the same collection. Some will quickly others will take a few hours. (We have
machine policy set to 1 hour). And the machines are pre-populated in the SCCM collection.
BTW the task sequence to build the OS does complete successfully - so what you are seeing below is after the osd task sequence
    ends.
However they do seem to share the following error in the location services.log

So things seem to go south from this point onwards.

  • SCCM 2012 WinPE boot with fixed IP address

Is there an easy way of bootin a boot.wim image in SCCM 2012 and start it with a fixed IP address.
In our server enviuronment we do not have DHCP and when I create a virtual reference image within the server environment i now need to manually enter a ip address, subnet, gateway and dns server.
I want to automate that....but how.
I know the prestart script is not working since that script is started AFTER the task sequence is obtained from the server.
Ans I need to set an IP address first !! als i could now obtain the task sequence...
    any help is appreciated.

  • [SOLVED] Screen brightness issues with Acer 5372Z

The screen of my laptop goes black whenever I boot into ArchLinux, after "reading Udev events" on startup. Most of the time I have to use a flashlight to see the console on my screen and type
    sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=20
to set screen brightness manually. The `Fn` + `Brightness up` combination doesn't work on my machine, but that's not an issue with Arch, but fault to sugar in coffee.
There are a lot of similar threads in this forum, but none of the solutions described there really worked 100% or not at all, that's why I'm opening a new thread as this seems to be specific to my hardware.
    Details:
    Graphics controller:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
    Screen resolution:
    1366*766
    /boot/grub/menu.lst:
    # (0) Arch Linux
    title Arch Linux
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/sda10 resume=/dev/sda5 ro vga=775
    initrd /initramfs-linux.img
    /etc/rc.conf#DAEMONS:
DAEMONS=(hwclock syslog-ng network netfs crond laptop-mode dbus gdm)
I will describe here what I have did so far on hacking:
Installed the video driver for my Intel card as described here in the wiki
Set kernel mode to `nomodeset`, without specifying vga, of course, which surprisingly solved the issue, but prevented me from using Gnome.
The supposed solution in the Arch wiki doesn't work for me. It makes it worse, in the sense of dumping screen brightness even before "reading udev events" on boot.
My current workaround (to avoid using a flashlight) is to put this line into my `/etc/rc.local`:
    setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=20
I wonder if you can help me to solve this issue, or point me to any of the great documentation provided by the Arch community I might have missed...

rg_arc wrote:I have this problem as well for my Acer Aspire 4810TZ. The only thing I can think of is to make some sort of temporary fix. But I agree with you, There should be a permanent fix. Every time I've installed Arch on this computer the same problem arises and the only way I can change the brightness is the setpci terminal method.
This is bad news for new Arch (and Linux) users. This will be probably the point where they will turn over to another distribution.
It seems to be something which has been included in newer kernels, because I can remember that in the 2.6 series this issue did not exist.

  • SCCM 2012 database issue /question

    Hi All
We have 2 recurring errors on our Primary Server (SQL locally installed so a local database).
We have recently updated SCCM 2012 RTM -> SCCM 2012 SP1 (no CU), and we have upgraded SQL 2008 R2 (CU6) to SQL 2008 R2 SP2.
We have exactly the same issue in our TST environment.
Both errors are related to SQL
We checked the SQL server log,
    The fist error:
Warning: Failure to calculate super-latch promotion threshold.
I don’t now where to search for this error also google did not provide me with some useful help, I hope someone here can help me with this one.
    The second error:
This one has something to do with the stored procedure DRSMsgBuilderActivation
The activated proc '[dbo].[spDRSMsgBuilderActivation]' running on queue 'CM_XXX.dbo.ConfigMgrDRSMsgBuilderQueue' output the following:
'ERROR: Sync of type Configuration Data failed, see previous messages for details.'
And the previous message is the following :
The activated proc '[dbo].[spDRSMsgBuilderActivation]' running on queue 'CM_XXX.dbo.ConfigMgrDRSMsgBuilderQueue' output the following:
'ERROR 3961, Level 16, State 1, Procedure spDRSSendChangesForGroup, Line 1, Message: Snapshot isolation transaction failed in database 'CM_XXX' because the object accessed by the statement has been modified by a DDL statement in another concurrent transaction
since the start of this transaction.  It is disallowed because the metadata is not versioned. A concurrent update to metadata can lead to inconsistency if mixed with snapshot isolation.'
I did some checking and there is no problem with the tempdb
Also with this error I hope that someone can help me
Perhaps someone has had the same error
    Regards and thx in advance
    Johan

hi, one thing I did not understand is, what is the effect on the non technical side of this error?
On the technical side you can find some information in error logs. This it's what I understood.
Is your sccm server working? Or is it not even possible to finish the sccm installation?

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 issues

    Hello
I have a SCCM 2012 site configured.  This is a signle site setup.  I wanted to upgrade to SP1 but unfortanetly it isn't working.  When I try to run the update I go through the wizard and when the install is supposed to happen it just returns
to the splash screen.  Also now I can't get into the managment console.  I have tried uninstalling the console and reinstalling the console with no success.
    Please advise.

I made sure that all the permission are correct on our SQL server and they appear to be good.  I tried to run the setup again and downloaded all the files again and the same issue.  Here is the log.
