SCCM 2012 R2 coexist with SCCM 2007 - DPs issue
Hi all,
I have a SCCM 2012 R2 which coexists with SCCM 2007 and I'm not interested in a migration, but my question concerning the use of DPs. Is it possible for 2012 R2 clients to use a 2007 DPs, i.e. are there settings for a sort of compatibility? I've looked among
links, but most of them are related to migration.
Please advise,
Domenico
No, you can only share a distribution point during a migration between a source and destination hierarchy (see also:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712275.aspx). Without a migration that's not possible.

Hi
We have one central site server and three primary site servers in SCCM 2007 and completed the SCCM 2012 migration as single hierarchy.
During the migration, We have configured SCCM 2007 Central site server as source hierarchy for data gathering process and configured the "Enable distribution-point sharing for this source site" to make SCCM 2007 distribution points
as SCCM 2012 content shares to serve SCCM 2012 migrated clients. Now we are facing a problem that one of the primary site server's data gathering process did not gather SCCM 2007 DPs even though we configured "Enable distribution-point sharing for this
source site" but data gathering process is completing successfully.
Is anyone have idea, why these SCCM 2007 DPs did not appearing as SCCM 2012 content shares under "Shared Distribution Points"
Thanks in Advance

Earlier all the shared DPs are showing under Shared Distribution Points ? Or since starting itself these DPs are not showing down? Have you checked migmctrl.log for some clue?

SCOM 2012 R2 agent with SCOM 2007 R2?
Server: SCOM 2007 R2 (now); eventual upgrade to SCOM 2012 R2
OS to monitor: Windows Server 2012
I understand SCOM 2012 agents can be installed on Windows Server 2012 and report back to SCOM 2007 R2 MGs.
I haven't been able to find documentation for or against whether SCOM 2012 R2 agents can be installed on Windows Server 2012 and can report back to SCOM 2007 R2 MGs... Is this supported?
I can't find anything on any specific CU level that might be required on SCOM 2007 R2 to support this.Hi,
I have not found any document talking about this. The only thing I can find is SCCM 2012 r2 agent can talk with SCCM 2012 SP1.

Hi all,
some of our secondary servers management point is not working.throws internal server error 500.
in the mpcontrol.log we are getting error like SQL server access denied. When check with ODBC or UDL file able to connect to database successfully.
The issue is getting resolved when we give SQL serve name in the regisrty with port number. But after a policy cycle the changes we made in the regisrty is getting reverted.
Any one has any idea why the MP is not working ?and it works only when we give the port number also with DB server name in the registry.
There is no firewall in between the secondary server and DB server,
able to telnet to SQL port successfully.
Please help.
prajithHi All,
We are using SQL default port 1433 only.
SQL browser service is working fine and as i told earlier it is happening only in some of the secondary sites and there is no firewall in between these SQL server and problem secondary servers .
So i was completly lost.
As a work around i have added port number also with SQL server name in the secondary server registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\SMS\MP
SQL server name =Server name,1433
But these setings were getting reverted after a policy cycle,
and i have added port number in the below location too,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\SMS\SQL Server\Site System SQL Account
Server"="Server name,1433
Now the MP is working fine,But the root cause is still not identified.. :(
Anyone have any idea or suggestion why it was not working??? -
SCCM 2012 and SCCM 2007 Shared Distribution Points
I am building a new SCCM 2012 site (primary and 4 secondaries) besides a SCCM 2007 site (primary, 3 secondaries and 65 DPs).
I migrated all objects from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 which worked well.
I migrated a client from SCCM 2007 to my SCCM 2012 environment and that worked well. Then i push some packages from SCCM 2012 to my migrated client which worked as well either.
Then I switch on the SHARED DISTRIBUTION option in the migration section and now my migrated SCCM 2012 client only can access the SCCM 2007 DPs and packages from SCCM 2012 DP can't be accessed anymore...in Software Center the packages will stay at 0% downloading....
Is that normal behavior after enabling shared DPs ?Did you ever find a solution for this? I am experiencing the same issue.
I have an IP address range boundary for testing SCCM 2012. After enabling shared distribution option SCCM 2012 migrated boundaries from SCCM 2007. My test IP address range boundary has two boundary groups... One is the SCCM 2012 Boundary group
pointing towards the SCCM 2012 DPs. The 2nd is the automatically created "Boundary Group for SCCM 2007 distribution point."
With both of those in there I can only push SCCM 2007 packages to the SCCM 2012 clients. SCCM 2012 packages come back in the logs as "Calling back with empty distribution points list." If I remove the automatically created "Boundary Group for SCCM 2007 distribution
point" from the test IP boundary then SCCM 2012 clients will properly download from the SCCM 2012 DPs, but now the SCCM 2007 packages fail to download to the SCCM 2012 test clients.
I assume I have some kind of boundary issue but am at a loss of resolving it. Either that or I have the shared dp concept down incorrectly. Shouldn't I be able to have a boundary that has SCCM 2012 clients that uses the 2012 DP for 2012 content but the 2007
DP for 2007 content while I am migrating?
Thanks for any help

Hi,
Can we assign 2 IPs for a SCCM 2012 primary site server and use 1 Ip for communicating with its 2 DPs and 2nd one for communicating with its upper hierarchy CAS . ?
Scenario: We are building 1 SCCM 2012 primary site and 2 DPs in one domain . In future this will attach to a CAS server which is in different domain. Can we assign 2 IPs in Primary site server , one IP will use to communicate with its 2 DPs and second
IP for communicating with the CAS server which is in a different domain.?
Details:
1)Server : Windows 2012 R2 Std , VM environment .2) SCCM : SCCM 2012 R2 .3)SQL: SQL 2012 Std
Thanks
Rajesh VasudevanFirst, it's not possible. You cannot attach a primary site to an existing CAS.
Primary sites in 2012 are *not* the same as primary sites in 2007 and a CAS is 2012 is completely different from a central primary site in 2007.
CASes cannot manage clients. Also, primary sites are *not* used for delegation in 2012. As Torsten points out, multiple primary sites are used for scale-out (in terms of client count) only. Placing primary sites for different organizational units provides
no functional differences but does add complexity, latency, and additional failure points.
Thus, as the others have pointed out, your premise for doing this is completely incorrect. What are your actual business goals?
As for the IP Addressing, that depends upon your networking infrastructure. There is no way to configure ConfigMgr to use different interfaces for different types of traffic. You could potentially manipulate the routing tables in Windows but that's asking
for trouble IMO.

SCCM 2012 Client Communication Issue with SCCM 2007
My Clients was installed SCCM 2007 client version but somehow those clients reporting to SCCM 2012 Server
Note : My SCCM 2007 Server still active mode . and the SCCM 2007 client IP boundaries was not added into SCCM 2012 server
But still communicating to SCCM 2012 , what is the root cause ?
Best Regard's KrishnaEither, during the client installation the client was manually assigned to the ConfigMgr 2012 site (by specifying the site code), or during the client installation the client was auto assigned to the ConfigMgr 2012 site (that can only happen when there
is an overlap in the boundaries and that doesn't have to be the same type of boundary).

SCCM 2007 with MDT 2012 Update 1 - LTI Build Process - "UserLocale" setting is all lowercase.
Greetings all. I'm trying to resolve a situation where the "UserLocale" property is being set to "en-us" opposed to "en-US". Quick environment stats: SCCM 2007, MDT2010, using LTI build process with a
custom UDI. 2 Build Sites (customer build sites), both sites have branch distribution points.
Both sites are performing the exact same LTI builds. Same task sequence.
Both sites have MDT location records that have the "UserLocale" property defined as "en-US".
Both sites successfully build the same LTI build, but post build; Site A has correct UserLocale entry of "en-US", while Site B does not have correct UserLocale entry - it is set to "en-us". This wouldn't normally be a big
deal, however we have an enterprise application that is hard coded to look for case specific property of "en-US", so this application does not function as desired as Site B.
Both builds use the same task sequence, same OS.WIM (Windows 7 x86), and same unattend.xml. The unattend.xml does have UserLocale specified as "en-US" (and also the MDT location records for Site A and Site B both have "UserLocale"
property defined as "en-US", so I do not understand where the lowercase "en-us" is being populated from during the client build for Site B, when it works correctly for Site A?
Bdd.log for client build at Site A shows:
Obtained USERLOCALE value from SQL: USERLOCALE = en-USUpdated
C:\WINDOWS\panther\unattend\unattend.xml with UserLocale=en-US (value was en-US)
Property USERLOCALE is now = en-US
Bdd.log for client build at Site B shows:
Obtained USERLOCALE value from SQL: USERLOCALE = en-US
Property UserLocale_Edit is now = en-us;0409
Property UserLocale is now = en-us
Value for USERLOCALE is already set to en-us so database value of en-US will be ignored.
Updated C:\WINDOWS\panther\unattend\unattend.xml with UserLocale=en-us (value was en-US)
Value for USERLOCALE is already set to en-us so database value of en-US will be ignored.
Can anyone offer insight as to my next troubleshooting steps? I'm not sure why Site B, bdd.log - unattend.xml shows updating UserLocale to en-us instead of en-US?
(Please note I have verified that the OS.WIM, unattend.xml, and all MDT scripts that run during task sequence execution are exact matches on the BDP's for each site. Same size, date, and content)Well, there must be something that is different... If you zip up the logs (all of them) from each setup, and mail them to me, I can take a quick look.

SCCM 2007 and 2012 coexistence and Cross Forest support
Hi All
I have a question
My company has recently acquired another company
That company exist of 2 forests (forest A has one domain namely domain A : and forest B has one domain namely domain B) with a two way forest trusts between them
Domain A has a SCCM 2007 primary Site
Domain B has a SCCM 2007 primary site and 2 secondary Sites
The active directory schema is extended in both domains
We cannot migrate the SCCM 2007 environment because it is a mess , so we want to build a new SCCM 2012 R2 environment into Domain B and from that environment manage both domains (OSD, software deployment client management ...)
We want to install a SCCM 2012 R2 (CU3) primary server into domain B and add two distribution points instead of the two secondary sites and manage both forests (domain A and B) from that primary site server
Now my questions are
1 )
Can an SCCM 2007 environment coexist with a SCCM 2012 environment?
I believe it can If I make sure that in the new SCCM 2012 environment we only use boundary groups for content locations and not for site assignment and in the SCCM 2007 environment (domain A and domain B) I need to disable the client push account.
2)
Discovery , How do we make sure that systems and users are discovered from both domains?
Do we need to do some additional configuration to make that happen or will this be no problem because of the Two way trust and active directory schema extension.
3 )
Can we do all the management from the new SCCM 2012 R2 site , also OSD deployments for both domains ?
I hope someone can help me with these questions
Thanks in advance
Regards
JohanHi All
After talk with management and local support the decision is made not to deploy only distribution points but instead deploy secondary sites (of course with management point and distribution point) because the bandwidth to these sites is a
problem.
So the situation will be Domain A Primary site (SCCM 2012 R2) and for both remote locations a secondary site , domain B a secondary site (of course all the related ports need to be opened for both domains as explained here https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh427328.aspx
Question
Can we do all the management from the new primary SCCM 2012 R2 site (domain A) , also OSD deployments for both domains A and B ?
I hope someone can review this
Thx in advance

Can I use SCCM 2007 to deploy SCCM 2012 Agent
I was reading the scenarios for deploying the SCCM 2012 agent here
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682132.aspx
I have been planning to deploy the 2012 agent using an SCCM 2007 deployment package. I am not migrating any data/packages/collections/anything from SCCM 2007.
I am looking for a sane way to deploy 2000ish clients a day for 2 weeks and be done.
I figure they are all SCCM 2007 clients so lets deploy 2012 agent using SCCM 2007.
I read the following in the link above and it sounds like the way I want to go – use SCCM 2007 software distribution…
Upgrade installation by using application management
Upgrades clients to a newer version by using Configuration Manager application management. You can also use Configuration Manager 2007 software
distribution to upgrade clients to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager.
Then later in the same document there is this…
How to Upgrade Configuration Manager Clients by Using a Package and Program
You can use Configuration Manager to create and deploy a package and program that upgrades the client software for selected computers in your hierarchy. A package definition file
is supplied with Configuration Manager that populates the package properties with typically used values. You can customize the behavior of the client installation by specifying additional command line properties.
You cannot upgrade Configuration Manager 2007 clients to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager by using this method.
In this scenario, use automatic client upgrade, which automatically creates and deploys a package that contains the latest version of the client.
What???!?? There is no Automatic client upgrade feature in 2007 – so how does that even make sense? In one section, it says I can deploy the 2012 Agent using SCCM 2007 software distribution, and then later in the same document, it
says I can't. I am probably misunderstanding somthing.
Is it possible to make a package/program in SCCM 2007 that will make targeted clients upgrade to Agent 2012 and join the new SCCM 2012 Site?I tested this (deploying 2012 agent using existing 2007 SCCM infrastructure) with a few test systems at my desk and it seems to work pretty smoothly. I made a package to deploy SCCM 2012 SP1 and added it to my SCCM 2007 Site. Then I deployed
the 2012 agent from 2007 and it worked great. If it works this well in production, I will be able to migrate all of my clients in less than a weeks time.
I have not published the 2012 site information in AD - and I don't plan to. We would have some overlapping site boundaries - and in 2012 it seems its unnecessary in a single site hierarchy. I AM planning to use boundaries to assign
DPs, but thankfully site and DP boundaries have been separated. It works great to just specify the site in everything and not worry about auto discovery. My clients don't move among sites since I only have one large site.
Sorry that I somehow posted this same question twice, and thanks for cleaning that up.
In my installation, I just called ccmsetup.exe with the following command line...
/mp:myMP.mydomain.com CCMLOGMAXHISTORY=5 CCMLOGMAXSIZE=1000000 SMSCACHEFLAGS=PERCENTDISKSPACE;NTFSONLY SMSCACHESIZE=10 SMSMP=myMP.mydomain.com SMSSITECODE=CCM
I am not sure that I need to specify the MP twice, but it is working to do so. I'm also not sure whether the log and cache flags will be honored since there are existing settings from SCCM2007 agent. I think that the 2012 install will not change
these settings upon installation, but it does not appear to hurt the process to include them just in case it does work. -
Distribution-Point sharing (SCCM 2007 - SCCM 2012)
I've some problems by gathering data from a SCCM 2007 Hierarchy, into the SCCM 2012 environment.
Gathering Data without enable Distribution Point sharing is successful, enabling Distribution Point Sharing the Process always fail.
In migmctrl.log i recogniced that the process alway stucks on the following Row for about one hour:

Thanks in advanceHi,
1.Please examine reports “All active package distributions” on SCCM 2007 to check whether have package is currently being installed or removed. Then refresh all DPs on SCCM 2007.
After completing these actions above, try to re-gather data.
2.If fail, please check the transaction log both on SCCM 2012 and SCCM 2007 SQL Server. Then, a SQL engineer should be involved in this case.(This forum do not support database issue)

SCCM 2007 Migration to SCCM 2012
Hello,
I read http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/58ba35e5-d84e-4741-8089-624f5269a2ca/sccm-2012-design-consideration-advice?forum=configmanagergeneral&prof=required with the following notes:
Secondary vs. DP is a subjective call based on two factors: client count and available bandwidth. More clients and/or less bandwidths means secondary site, less clients and/or more bandwidth means DP. Both use a server OS so there's really no cost difference, just some added complexity for a secondary site. Without knowing the bandwidth, no way for me to be able to say one way or the other.
As for IBCM, correct, it's no a primary site server, it's simply a site system that typically hosts an MP, DP, and SUP. The App Catalog Website Point is also applicable.
Are you planning on managing legacy mobile devices or Mac OSX? If not, the Enrollment Proxy Point is not needed -- it's not applicable to IBCM anyway to my knowledge.
Also, the FSP must be on a separate site system so that clients can communicate with it via HTTP.
I have for now two sites:
- 25,000 Desktops on one site
- 1,500 Servers on the second site
in SCCM 2007 I had three sites: One Parent doing the reporting and two child sites handling the inventory, distribution, etc... (No SUP do far)
I have on each child sites 1 DP.
What should be changed for SCCM 2012?
What is "More Clients" or "Less Clients" ?
"More Bandwidth" or "Less Bandwidth"?
Thanks,
Dom
System Center Operations Manager 2007 / System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 / Forefront Client Security / Forefront Identity ManagerHello Dom,
If you have Two Primary servers you may need to plan for a CAS (Central administration site), in SCCM 2012 when you have more than one primary server you need a CAS to connect them. But remember the CAS does not
process any client data, DPs nor MPs (hardware nor software inventory), and bear in mind that a primary stand-alone can support up to 100,000 clients, and in SCCM 2012 the big idea is to simplify the hierarchy. So if you have a primary site you can manage
a lot of clients, and you can separate them in your case in boundaries, boundaries in 2012 do two things: Site assignment and content lookup, but they only work with boundary groups, in which you set the limits in the boundary, and latter associate it with
a boundary group.
You can then just have a primary server and remote DPs, and decide how the clients will look for content in the DPs with the boundaries and boundary groups. The bandwidth needs to be really important about sending
packages between sites, or if the boundaries are not configured properly the clients can end up looking for content where it should not. Also don’t forget about fallback packages and content, because DPs and packages can be set as fallback, so if clients
cannot find in a local DP they will search those packages.
Below a few references that may help you with your migration.
Any more questions, please let me know.

Hi,
We have an empty SCCM 2012 R2 environment (only testmachines in it).
Now I would like to migrate some first Windows 7 machines by pushing a SCCM 2012 client to it. Therefore first the collections and packages of SCCM 2007 should be migrated.
So I started an SCCM 2012 Collection migration job from SCCM 2007 to 2012:
1.Selected only the Windows 7 collections (only those should be migrated, not the XP ones)
2.selected software assigned to it (it comes from a DFS-share \\ourcompany\share
3.all with default values, except "Enable programs for deployment"
My questions:
1.It took only 10 minutes to complete (share is 100 GB) but I see now software is not distributed to distribution point.
=> Is that normal? Should I run distribute to distribution point for all packages are rerun migration job with differen values?
2.After step 1, I can now migrate a Windows 7 computer fro SCCM 2007 to 2012, right?
Everything looks fine to me. There is also the object migration but don't think I need it.Just want to doublecheck.
Please advise.
J.
Jan Hoedt#1: that's default behavior. Packages are migrated, but not distributed to DPs automatically. That's up to you right now.
#2: yes, but that's independent from step #1. You can install the CM12 client to the clients anytime.

Hi, I need your help on consolidating two different SCCM 2007 infrastructures into a single SCCM 2012.
We have two different SCCM 2007 Hierarchies, Lets say 123 and ABC
About 123 SCCM 2007 -- On 123 Hierarchy, we have already started migrating clients from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012.
About ABC SCCM 2007 -- On ABC Hierarchy, This is still running on SCCM 2007 (This hierarchy only be started migrating once we
are completed migration on 123)
Out of which, we have few co located offices across the globe for both 123 and ABC. Now we are decided to replace the hardware on all these locations by removing the existing two servers (one for 123 and other for ABC,with two different Forest and domains),
and consolidate them into a single server.how can we plan/design to ensure that we covering both hierarchies SCCM clients for the operations.
===================Below are some possibilities we are discussing on================================
1.Is there any way on "System management" in AD to enable access either in 123's domain or ABC's domain.
2.Since we are planning to replace the hardware with Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V, Create two instances and migrate 123 hierarchy to SCCM 2012 and other instance will serve ABC until we start the migration on this.
========================================================================================
correct me, If i am in wrong direction. Please suggest me the best of doing it. Thanks in advance.
srkr1) In CM 2012 you can publish data to System Management in other forest but you have to configure the permissions manually and create the forest object in the ConfigMgr console.
2) CM07 and CM2012 instances can co-exist as long as you don't create boundary groups in CM12 for site assignment (that will cause overlapping boundaries if you still have boundaries in Cm07)

SCCM 2012 Client delpoyment in SCCM 2007 Native world
Hi Team,
In my account I have SCCM 2007 running in Native mode.... we do not support internet based clients there..but work on HTTPS only. Now I have implemented SCCM 2012 R2 there and now testing the client migration so that I can upgrade the SCCM client agent from
2007 to 2012. In SCCM 2012 we have to support internet based clients and so the SCCM 2012 client which we need to install should be compatible on internet and intranet both
The plan is to use the existing SCCM 2007 infra to do that. Send the ccmsetup.exe ( of SCCM 2012 ) in a package to all the clients via SCCM 2007 Software Distribution and trigger SCCM 2012 installation.
Just to do a small test I did this :
1. Created a folder in C drive of a client machine and copied the ccmsetup.exe ( of SCCM 2012 ) in it.
2. Tried to trigger the installation with below mentioned commandlines..... but getting error as mentioned below.... Please help.
Command line used :
Here ABCD.contoso.org is the intranet MP and PQRS.dmzone.org is internet MP
CCMSetup.exe /UsePKICert /NoCRLCheck smsmp=ABCD.contoso.org ccmhostname=PQRS.dmzone.org smssitecode=ABC
CCMSetup.exe /UsePKICert /NoCRLCheck smsmp=ABCD.contoso.org smssitecode=ABC
CCMSetup.exe smsmp=ABCD.contoso.org smssitecode=ABC
