SCCM 2012 R2 Offline Servicing with Older Updates

We use to run Windows 7 Pro 32/64 Bit but we are upgrading to Windows 7 Enterprise 64Bit for BitLocker option on our machines.
I perform offline servicing on my reference build and capture .wim image but for some reason I still have to install over 100 updates. For example it will not install Windows 7 x64 SP1 and IE10.
I performed a search of Windows Updates Released on or after April 2011, downloaded the files to a new folder/group "Old Windows 7 Updates". I perform another "Schedule Updates" on the .wim file, still does not install the older updates.
I saw a post talking about using DISM to force the older updates on the image but that fails for me as I am beginner for using DISM.
Any suggestions would be great or help!

You can't inject SP1 using offline updates. You need to start with media provided by Microsoft that already has SP1 included and that will address your issues. You can easily download this from your MVLS site.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 - Offline Servicing failure - Failed to find or access the update binaries to be applied on the image

    Hi there
Trying to patch a new Windows 7 SP1 image within SCCM 2012 SP1, but it's failing.
I've searched for information on the failure messages I am seeing, but although there is a LOT of information online concerning Offline Servicing failures, I can't find anything on the errors I am seeing.
I've tried injecting a single update, five updates and ten updates, no difference, same messages.
We have McAfee Access Protection disabled, as we know Offline Servicing simply won't work if this is running.
In the console, in Schedule Update Status for the image I am trying to update, the following message is shown:
"Failed to find or access the update binaries to be applied on the image."
That sounds as if the process can't find the actual .cab file for any update I've tried to inject, but I don't know why it wouldn't be able to do that, we have Software Updates configured and the .cab files are on the same server.
When I looked at the OfflineServicingMgr.log file, I see the following entries:

I'm not sure what file "Failed to find properties of file 4" is referring to, whether dism.exe, an update or the image itself, but immediately after this message appears the image is unmounted. After that this message shows:
"Completed processing image package PackageID. Status = Failed"
As I say, there's a lot of information available re Offline Servicing but I haven't found anything with these particular messages.
If anyone has encountered this before, I'd appreciate any information you have.

    Hi,
I think file named 'NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS’ might be causing this issue. If this file is present in logical drives, then please give it a shot one more time after deleting this file from the logical drives.
Due to this file, it might be preventing 'smsexec' service to skip the drive when looking for content. So worth a try!
After deleting this file, you also need to restart 'smsexec' service to reflect the changes. You can also verify from below registry value & ensure that all of your logical drives (specially where SCCMContentLib directory resides) should be listed
    over there
    'HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SMS\DP\ContentLibUsableDrives'
    Hope this will help!

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - Reporting Services Point installation - "The Datasource does not exist"

    Hi all,
Quick bit of background, we have SCCM 2012 R2 installed on a Windows 2012 R2 server. We have the SQL back end off box, configured on a SQL 2012 R2 server running on a Windows Server 2012 R2 cluster. Then there is yet another server which runs the reporting
services. I've just tried installing the Reporting Services Point on the srs server but it doesn't appear to have worked that well. Here's the info i've got back:
A] Site Status > Reporting services point:

Has anyone come across this issue before? Must admit, I'm not too hot on the sql side of things so any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi guys, cheers for the swift response.
Garth, i can access SSRS in IE from the SCCM box and it looks a-ok.
Paul, nope can't say I've done any configuration of reporting services - the whole thing has been set up by the database team. Having had a trundle through Reporting Services Configuration Manager, it seems the Database team have set up SSRS in line with
    the walkthrough you posted.
Since i'm not seeing the ConfigMgr_XXX folder appear in SSRS I'm wondering if there's something preventing SCCM from being able to create it. The message
    "Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions
granted to user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM' are insufficient for performing this operation" sounds like the account SCCM is leveraging to perform the install might not have the right permissions in SSRS. Do i need to delegate specific rights to the NT
    AUTHORITY\SYSTEM account in SRS perhaps?

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - Reporting Services question

In testing SCCM 2012, I put it on a an existing remote SQL instance. This server also housed SCOM among other applications. I set up reporting services successfully and got reports working.
A few months later I decided to setup and test reporting in SCOM for Audit Collection Services (ACS). I did not know at the time but SCOM takes over SSRS and makes it unusable for any other application. This broke my SCCM reporting. I finally reinstalled
SSRS and got rid of the SCOM piece and all is back to normal.
I am now planning for deployment in production. Our DB team wants to stick the DB for SCCM on a server that will house many other databases (eventually).
My question is: Does SCCM reporting play well with others? That is, if I set up SSRS on a SQL server with other applications - should I request that SCCM is the only application using that particular SSRS instance? Or should it be ok to reside on an SSRS
instance that may eventually house other applications (NOT SCOM).
    Thanks in advance!

a couple hundred clients; base specs for the primary server; and it would be a VM
With all that said, I think our DB team still wants us to use their remote SQL server (physical) so I will probably go with that as it is still supported and our environment will be relatively tiny compared to typical SCCM deployments. Of course, if there
are known issues or advisories against having a remote SQL please let me know (and provide a link).
My main concern was using this remote SQL server and setting up SSRS and having other applications conflicting with it. As long as SCCM plays well with others - I am good to go. Thanks for the replies.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 ADR issue with proxy authentication

    Hi,
    We're migrating SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 R2.
In SCCM 2007, the proxy server is configured with user authentication, and this works.
In SCCM 2012 R2, the Software Update Point is installed locally and connected with a local WSUS 4.0 (Server 2012)
We use a proxy with user authentication for Update Deployment. (This user is the same as configured in SCCM 2007.)
The Proxy Server is Blue Coat SG.
The proxy account is used for:
The Synchronization works, but Automatic Deployment Rule (ADR) doesn't work.
When an Automatic Deployment Rule is started, it tries to authenticate 3 times.

It seems that the ADR uses a wrong password when authenticating with the proxy, but this same user works when synchronizing with WSUS.
We performed the following actions with no result:
run the ADR manually and automatic,
    reinstalled WSUS and SUP,
    changed proxy user account.
    Regards,
    Matthias

    Currently, the command shows:
    Current WinHTTP proxy settings:
        Direct access (no proxy server).
    We've been testing with:
    upddwnldcfg.exe /s:<proxyserver>:<port> /u:<user> /allusers
psexec -i -s iexplore.exe, set Internet Explorer proxy manually
All with same result, proxy user getting locked when ADR runs.
(These settings have been removed after the test.)
I think dekac99 would suggest netsh winhttp set proxy or import proxy.
then turn off proxy use on the role SUP (this way not SCCM will send auth but all winhttp will use proxy)
the problems with that for me are:
    - if MS implemented role-based proxy usage, why set at http layer - of course this might work as a workaround for the time being so it might be a good idea but I'm just not sure what unwanted issues it may cause
    - the other thing is where I'm not sure, with set proxy you cannot define authentication account. if you use import from IE and the IE prompted for proxy auth, the stored credential will be used on winhttp layer (though I'm not 100% sure of that) - so this
is just too uncontrolled for me
    - upddwnldcfg.exe will need to run in the name of system account (it stores credentials under HKCU so far I know it will be a per user based setting)
--> what confuses me, the catalog synch works which should use the same configured proxy and account(?), only ADR does not work. shouldn't they both use the same process for sending account auth info?

We are planning to replace our existing SMS 2003 server with SCCM 2012 R2 (running on Windows server 2012 R2).
Our requirements are to support client our Windows 7 client PC's in Domain A and also support Xen Desktop clients in a separate domain (Domain B) and forest. We have a one way trust established (Domain B trusts Domain A). The SCCM 2012 R2 server will be
in Domain A the same as our current SMS 2003 server.
What we want to do, at a minimum, using SCCM is:
Client inventory (hardware, software, user) and package distribution.
Is this do able or a no go? If not directly is there any work-around for this? Appreciate any helpful advice or feedback.
I have made the below diagram to better illustrate the scenario:
Note: Domain B does not have WINS implemented (Domain A does). Both domains are running DNS of course.

    Hi,
The following blog describes the technical requirements that have been put in place for the support of cross forest communication. You could have a look.
    Quote:
Inner-site Communication (site to site communication) exists in the form of both File Based Replication (SMB Port 445) and Database Replication (TCP/IP port 4022 by default).
In order to install and configure a child site (primary or secondary), the child site server must be located in the same forest as the parent site or reside in a forest that contains a
two way trust with the forest of the parent (CAS or primary).
Site System Roles (MP, DP, etc.) with the exception of the Out of Band Service Point and the Application Catalog Web Service Point can be deployed in an untrusted forest.
The SLP functionality as known in ConfigMgr 2007 is now performed by a Management Point. In this blog I will refer to this as the Lookup Management Point.
Most of these items were taken from this TechNet article – please refer to the article for more information -

Thank you for your reply. The below appears to make it seem as though this can be accomplished without requiring a trust:

  • SCCM 2012 Compliance 7 Customize for Total Updates Needed

I can't find single report in SCCM 2012 that lists the total count of updates needed for each computer. This really irks me and many others as this and similar info was readily available with the old WSUS console. It also takes a lot more
clicks to get the same info in SCCM (if SCCM even has it) as it did in WSUS. Anyway, I've decided to try to customize an existing report. I made a copy of "Compliance 7 - Computers in a specific compliance state for an update group (secondary)".
Try as I might, I can't get the query to work right to create a field for number of updates required for each computer. I'd really like columns for Failed/Needed/Applied but I'll start with just Needed. Why they got rid of this in SCCM reporting baffles me.
I have several SQL queries that pull this info for needed patches when run in Management Studio but I can't get them to work in a SCCM Report. Does anyone know how to do this?
    Ben JohnsonWY

I'm looking at Compliance 1, 5, and 7. The closest to what I want is Compliance 7 but with a new column for "Required Updates". I have that column made but it's not populated. I have a "Required Updates" Dataset now inside this custom
report. BUT the row of info in the table (computer name, last logon, etc) only lets you select fields from Dataset0. Where I'm stuck is how get to the "Required_Updates" field from the "Required Updates" dataset to appear in Dataset0.
I've spent a big chunk of time trying to get the code from the two queries merged but I can't get it to work. The other option is to somehow get the field to appear in the row's field selection list (ie, read field from both datasets).
Oh, and when I followed your steps above, I got the report created but it throws and "error during processing" error when I run it.

  • SCCM 2012 vs WSUS for Windows Server Updates

    Hi,
Can anyone assist with clarifying the benefit of using SCCM 2012 for server patching over WSUS. As far as i understand SCCM can manage updates for third party applications if configured correctly. However if this is the only benefit I cannot see a clear
    reason for using it.
Any information on the benefits of SCCM for server patching would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Michael.

    Hi,
There are many reasons to use SCCM for patching instead of WSUS, I wrote a blog post a while ago listing 12 reasons why you should use it.
    http://ccmexec.com/2012/08/top-11-reasons-why-you-should-use-configmgr-2012-for-managing-software-updates/
    I hope that helps!

  • Sccm 2012 agent not installing with error CcmSetup failed with error code 0x80041013

We have sccm 2012 r2 enviroment , when we deploy client agent to one DC , client agent is not getting install with below error .. I can able to install agent to all the machines except one DC.
    CcmGetOSVersion failed with 0x80041013
CcmSetup failed with error code 0x80041013
    Any idea ?

The error code 0x80041013 translates to:
    Provider load failure
    Source: Windows Management (WMI)
Like Briij suggested, you should try to fix the WMI repository.

  • App-V 5.0 SP2 user applications published via SCCM 2012 to VDI workstations with roaming only

    Hi,
The environment consists of App-V 5.0 SP2 (KB2956985) user based applications published via SCCM 2012 to Windows 7 VDI snapshotted workstations that are reset at user logoff.
When a user logs on the SCCM 2012 client initiates App-V client package publishing.  After a couple of minutes after logon the shortcuts appear and the user can launch their applications.
The issue is that at logoff, even with roaming enabled, the publishing information disappears.  This causes the next logon process for that user to repeat, the applications are not available until the SCCM client has completed it's publishing cycle.
Roaming profiles are implemented. %APPDATA% is redirected to a UNC path.  The following registry key is set
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\AppV\Client\Integration\PreserveUserIntegrationsOnLogin=1
U-EV, global publishing of applications, and AppLocker rules are not an option.  Also, I have read this already - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn659478.aspx#BKMK_PE
I do not want to wait for the SCCM client to kick in prior to the user applications being available.  What do I need to roam or run to create a seamless transition for the user between sessions?
    Eddie.

Hi Tywin (bad username considering the last GoT Episode ;))
If you ask Microsoft, they always recommend using SCCM for deploying App-V packages and reuse your current SCCM infrastructure if that is already in place. Problem is, as you now experience, is that there is some big caveats both in regards to publishing
time and to roaming of settings.
As Nické states I would suggest looking into the Full Infrastructure Model for App-V 5.x, which gives you much better performance in what I call "from no apps" to "being able to click the shortcut" - the add and publishing phase. If you don't have the time/budget/whatever
to start looking into that, you could look into some community tools like App-V Scheduler which is developed specific by Citrix guys to ease the publishing and management in a Citrix world.
Microsoft have a great article about Performance Guidelines, which you have read, but it mostly presumes you work with Full Infrastructure. Have you looked into Steve Thomas' session from TechEd NA? It talks about "implementation trends".

  • Mac OS X Server v10.6.6 Software Update Service Host Older Updates?????

Is there a way to manually add older software updates to the software update service?
My issue started out like this. I would click change version beside both Mac OS X update/combo update v10.6.6 and select v10.6.5 because I want to push the older version. When I clicked save the check marks went away on those two items. I then figured I would refresh everything by renaming /var/db/swupd/http to /var/db/swupd/http-old and /etc/swupd/ to /etc/swupd-old. I restarted the service and all of the files were recreated and updates were downloaded but now when I click change version the older version is no longer available. Keep in mind that I still have the old folders so I can always go back and I can always download old updates from the Apple web site if need be. So if there is a way to manually add older updates hopefully my issue will be resolved. It was written in the description of Mac OS X Server v10.6.5 that a new feature was available that allowed hosting older updates but I can't find instructions on how to do so.
I welcome any takers. Thanks in advance!

I understood the older version only being able to be hosted/downloaded when they come available, but were updated on SUS due to a bug or something, so as far as I understood, apple wont let you host that VERSION of that file again, unless you had it before.
Essentially, they only allow sus to download the last version of it, if you had the one before the last version, you could keep it. I could/might/usually am wrong though.
    my 2 cents

  • SCCM 2012 report on computers with local shares and share permissions

Very new to SCCM 2012, want to put together a report to show computers with local shares and the permissions on those shares (for security purposes, need to investigate any systems that have open shares_.
Managed to add and now collecting information that populates v_gs_share and I have a handle on the report itself, just wondering how to collect the share permissions - I've seen other qustions on the boards that are similar but reference earlier versions
of SCCM so wondering how to do it in 2012.
    Thanks

So, where are you at?  The script is running, and the clients have the data in their local WMI namespace, root\cimv2\sms_sharepermissions ?
So all that's left is to modify hardware inventory to pull that custom WMI Namespace in?  If so, it's not too horrid.  Take note of a workstation (or server) to which you have remote rights to; and which has run the script, so that on THAT specific
    machine, root\cimv2\SMS_SharePermissions exists.
In your CM12 Console, Administration, Client Settings.  Right-click "Default Client Settings", Properties.  On the left, select "hardware inventory".  then on the right, Set classes..., now the fun part.
    Add...
Connect..., and put in ThatServerOrWorkstation (for computername), and wmi namespace is root\cimv2.  Click the option "recursive", Connect.  (the trick here is rights to the target).
From the results, it might be easiest to click on "classname" at the top for sorting, then go find SMS_SharePermissions.  Select that, ok ok ok ok (however many times you need to agree); and... we're done here.  Sit and wait for inventory to report
that data up.  If you're paranoid, you can monitor dataldr.log; and force policy refreshes and hinv deltas on some boxes; but the key is patience.  if you think you've waited long enough; you probably haven't.  ;)
    Standardize. Simplify. Automate.

  • Automaitc Updates through SCCM 2012 not showing up on the updates status

    Hi,
I have configured Automatic Update rule on SCCM 2012 and it works fine but on the client machine i see this.
This is the update status it shows which means updates are not being installed since long time.
But when i see the update history it shows me the latest updates installed.
Why would this happen? please suggest.

    Hi,
That is as expected as the updates are installed using SCCM and not the Windows Update Agent, if you deploy a client using SCCM OSD and install software updates using SCCM and not WSUS/Windows Update it will actually say:
    "Updates were installed: Never"
