SCCM 2012 R2 Pull DP fails, works on Update Distribution Points

I'm seeing some odd behavior out of a DP, in particular around driver packages. The system is running SCCM 2012 R2.  When I create the driver package I deploy it to the DP on the Primary Site Server. That usually happens in a couple of minutes or less.
I then deploy to a remote DP configured for Pull.  This generates the log entries below in the PullDP.log. Even waiting hours doesn't seem to help. If I do a Update Distribution Points for the package, it runs successfully.  I know
there was something similar fixed in SP1 CU3.

We ended up changing the DP back to a standard distribution point.  That allowed the driver package to distribute successfully.  so as a result I can't access the logs any longer.
I should note for anyone who goes searching for this that we had problems with every one of our driver packages.  As I dug into it I found the contents, it looked like for some reason that it wasn't being transferred from the download location into
the final DP distribution location.  It almost looked like SCCM was ignoring driver package types.  I don't know if its a bug or just something quirky about this environment.
We were hoping to use Pull DP to handle our distributions more effectively, but we've backed off on that because of all the issues we've had with it.  I hate say it, but it appears to be another SCCM 2012 feature that sounds like a good idea, but the
implementation leaves a lot to be desired.

  • SCCM 2012 Software Metering is not working

SCCM 2012 Software Metering is not working in our environment. Other than software metering, reports work just fine.
I have created a few simple software metering rules with “Acrobat.exe” and “Outlook.exe”. Rules are enabled. Rules were on at least 6 months.
When I go to software metering reports, Month parameter value is empty and I can’t choose any value.
I ran runmetersumm.exe on our server, it did not work as intended. :
Summarizing data up to 0 hours old.
File Usage Summary added -1 rows in 0 seconds.
Monthly Usage Summary added -1 rows in 0 seconds.
I am stumped. Why would it add minus rows?
Any ideas how I can make software metering work on our environment?
    Thank you

    Finally figured it out.
mtrmgr.log did not find any rules when I ran executables. So I knew it wasn't working on the server side.
After searching for a while, I found the solution from the link below:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/8f048512-c357-437e-89ec-cee5356a10b1/software-metering-reports-empty?forum=configmanagergeneral
    1. Deleted RULECHG.RTA under policypv.box folder
    2. Removed and recreated metering rules again.
    Everything is working again now.
    Thank you.
I do wonder how to avoid those problems going forward though.

  • Failed to Update Distribution Point

I have an interesting issue with distribution point updating a deployment package.  I have ADRs that run for AV definition updates.  The rules run, add to an existing deployment package and update distribution points.  This works great for
about a month at a time.  After that, I have to delete the package and recreate it.  I can try to update DPs, use Powershell to update, remove all DPs and add them again as if it were a new distribution, but none of those work.  Does anyone
else experience this or have seen it in the past?  The error I'm getting is the 80070003 in Package Transfer Manager.  Note, this happens every 4-5 weeks and I've experienced it now for the 3rd time.  Thanks in advance.
    Best, Jacob I'm a PC.

0x80070003 = "The system cannot find the path specified."
Make sure your deployment package where you download definitions is configured properly and accessible.
Is the source folder of the package on shared storage or saved locally on SCCM server?
What release of CM12 are you on?
I would also recommend looking at A/V exclusions for SCCM server:

  • Change "Update distribution points on a schedule" in SCCM 2007 via powershell script

    Hi
I would like to change the Custom Schedule start time in the "Update distribution points on a schedule" on a package in SCCM 2007 with out logging into the SCCM console.
I have following line code to query the package.
    Get-WmiObject
    -Namespace
    "Root\SMS\Site_$sitecode"
    -Query
    "SELECT * FROM SMS_PackageBaseclass WHERE PackageID='$PackageID'"
    -ComputerName $ServerName
The problem is I only get the "SourceDate" and "LastRefreshedTime" from the query. I am not sure if I change the "LastRefreshTime" that it would change the start time in the Custom Schedule

    Hi Jason
I progressed a little bit with you help. I now have the following bit of code.
    $Package = Get-WmiObject  -class SMS_Package -Namespace "Root\SMS\Site_$sitecode" -Filter "PackageID='$PackageID'" -ComputerName $ServerName
    $RefreshPkg = $Package.RefreshSchedule()
    $RefreshPkg.RefreshSchedule
    I get the following error:

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Pull distribution fails on remote DPs

I have a few remote distribution points that I've been able to distribute driver packages to in the past, but after loading updates on my primary site server and the DPs, distribution of new driver packages fail even though it distributes fine to my primary
    site server.
All DPs are in remote subnets connected via VPN.

Actually when you use pull DP that mean there will be a standard DP as source, where all the content will be downloading on pull DP from the source DP. so pull DPs should have good enough network from standard DP to pull DPs. and distributed content should
be available on source DP, otherwise content distribution will be failed.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 & Pull Distribution Point Casuing 0 Byte amd64 folders

    Experiencing an extremely frustrating problem.
    ENVIRONMENT:
1 Primary Site Server / DP (Main Office)
    40 DP's (Remote School Locations)
    - Hosted on a file server VM
    - Contains 3 partitions: C: (System), E: (Data), I: (PKG share)
OS: Server 2008 R2 (Primary Site Server and File Servers / DP's)
    SCCM Version: SCCM 2012 R2
We recently upgrade to SCCM 2012 R2. I have confirmed that this has not caused the problem I am about to describe. The only other change that has occurred recently is that we configured all of our DP's at each of our 40 sites to be pull distribution points.
While this seems to be working fine we are now seeing a whole bunch of 0 Byte alpha numeric folders with a 0 Byte amd64 subfolder. These folders seem to attach to the E: drive on all of our File server distribution points....for the life of me I cannot figure
out why and this occurred as soon as we switched to pull distribution points. While this does not seem to be having an erroneous effect on our environment, it is annoying and somewhat disconcerting as I have not been able to ascertain what is causing it. Any
SCCM admins out their ever encountered this?
    Thanks

Yes, I have examined the logs using cmtrace and done a search for the amd64 string to see if any of the logs indicate its creation as part of the pull dp process. I have not found anything as of yet.
    Thanks

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Upgrade Error - Fails on SQL

    Greetings,
I am currently working to upgrade our current SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3 servers to SCCM 2012 R2.  i have ran all the pre-checks and all comes through without error.  when doing the upgrade the following errors appear and as such it will not move forward.
can anyone please assist on this one?  I have searched and searched but not found anything that will point me towards a resolve.

  • SCCM 2012: failed to connect to distribution point

    Hi folks,
I have an intermittent issue and can't figure out the reason so far.
I have a primary server and multiple distribution points. The primary does not have a DP configured. When I deploy a new distribution point, I have the following messages:
Distribution Manager failed to connect to the distribution point. Check your network and firewall settings.
    and
Distribution Manager failed to find or create the defined share or volume on distribution point.
    DistMgr.log shows the following:
    CWmi::Connect() failed to connect to \\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\root\CIMv2. Error = 0x800706BA
    STATMSG: ID=2391 SEV=E LEV=M SOURCE="SMS Server" COMP="SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER" SYS=BBD-SCCM-E.domain.name SITE=IDC PID=2120 TID=3376 GMTDATE=do jun 28 07:24:17.463 2012 ISTR0="["Display=\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=IDC"]\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"

Cannot find or create the package share.
Error occurred. Performing error cleanup prior to returning.
However, after a while (couple of hours), it looks like everything is distributed on the DP. But this message keeps on coming back during the course of the day and every time a new DP is deployed.
I checked permissions, IIS, WMI, but I can't find out the cause of this behavior. I have events about WMI (id 5605) but I can connect to the WMI workspace (root\MicrosoftIISv2) with no issues.
Can anyone shed some light on this please? It would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Safdar.

To clarify: it's not enough to tick "Windows Authentication" in Add Roles/Features - it actually has to be enabled in IIS configuration.
There are also suggestions to run mofcomp.exe smsdpprov.mof

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - Migration TS Failed in Release Request Step with Error Code 0x80004005

    Hi
I have Upgraded my lab from SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2. Now, While I am running TS for Refresh/Replace Migration, its successfully captures all the Data & settings and can also restores all Data & settings, but at release request Step TS got failed.
In SMSTS log file error was "Release Request Failed with error code 0x80004005".
Is there any KB released by Microsoft to fix this issue?? Due to this issue I am unable to run any other TS.

I've seen a few weird scenarios with task sequences after an upgrade from SP1 to R2.
In most cases I've been able to fix these "problems" by simply creating a new task sequence, and copy all the custom steps to the new task sequence.
Also make sure to update boot images, mdt packages, usmt etc. to new versions.
So thats what I'd try first....

  • SCCM 2012 R2: Forefront Endpoint protection via automatic updates only work when manually triggering automatic updat rule

    Hi,
I followed this manual to configure forefront endpoint protection on clients: http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/6106-using-system-center-2012-configuration-manager-part-6-adding-the-endpoint-protection-role-configure-alerts-and-custom-antimalware-policies/
Now in short: everything works fine ... as long as I trigger the audomatic deployment rules.
    Current situation:
    1. ADR ran fine (3:30 this night)
2.Software update group is NOT ok
3.I run ADR manually (right click on ADR, run)
4.software update group is ok (green icon)
Then virusupdates are succesfull. This means that clients only update their virus definitions when I manually run the ADR-rule.
    I'm missing something here.
    Please advise.

  • SCCM 2012: F8 debug widow not working (At-least not visible) after entering into the "Currently installed Windows 7 Image": F8 works in winPE

F8 debug widow not working (At-least not visible) after entering into the "Currently installed Windows 7 Image"
F8 option turned on in the boot image.
F8 debug window works in Windows PE.
F8 debug window does not show-up on F8 key-press after entering the 'Currently installed Windows 7 Image" all the way to the end of the task sequence.
But after a 'Restart Step' (and if F8 was pressed) the Task Sequence tends to pause indefinitely as if the
F8 debug screen is open in the background.
    I am using SCCM 2012 SP1 (CU 1 is
not an option at the moment).
Any ideas as to how I could get the debug F8 option back?

There have been a couple reported occurrences of this (or something similar) to my knowledge with no resolution in the forums. Your best bet may be to open a case with CSS.
Also note that if you were going to do a CU, why would you pick CU1 instead of CU4? And, can I ask why it's not an option out of curiosity?
