SCCM 2012 R2 Trial VHD - Expired SQL

Setup the 2012 R2 VHD and attempted to open the console and (of course apparently) doesn't connect. On inspection I found the SQL service not running and not starting with "SQL Server evaluation period has expired".
I look into it and the SQL used is an evaluation tied to the date the VHD was created. Microsoft's only official comment I can find is to turn your clock back...
Looking further into it same issues and comments for 2012 and 2012 SP1 VHDs.
So for three products in a row, same issue which renders the EVALUATION VHD useless. It is 100% useless. Unless I pull a SQL key out of my ass or turn back the clock (which is not in anyway a solution vs fixing this after the last 3 times) this is a waste
of a day downloading, extracting and configuring a VM.
I was going to sell SCCM to a customer. Probably around $50k over 2 years in licensing to first get their servers then PCs covered. But when Microsoft treat their partners and customers like scum, not fixing a huge issue just with the evluation of their
product, I would be beyond irresponsible selling this GARBAGE to them.
Like if you won't fix the evaluation what does that say about the product and support?
And what irks me more is no one actually involved in the products or in any position to fix this will ever read this or care. Nothing will be done. Microsoft won't change from doing this shit over and over. They hate their partners and customers and will
never change.
If you are a partner or customer considering SCCM DON'T. Microsoft don't even fix their evaluation after releasing it 100% broken 3 times in a row.

Still tuned Torsten if you ever got a response.
I sent an email to our distributor. I got a "we've forwarded your email blah blah blah" back and never heard another thing despite following up again. Let them know they missed a $20k this year and $30k next year sale because of it, they don't
care I guess (Synnex in Australia by the way).
Really this just isn't good enough from Microsoft and I stand by what i said above. If you're looking for a solution find a non MS one here. Their distributors don't care one bit and MS don't care one bit even about their evaluations. Too many managers and
teams and BS at MS for anyone to take ownership of something like this and have it fixed.

  • Can we recover SCCM 2012 R2 site Servers and SQL DB from hyper V or Vmware VM snapshot

    Hi Folks
Can we recover SCCM 2012 R2 site Servers and SQL DB from hyper V or Vmware VM snapshot
if yes is there any challenges or any document available from Microsoft on Hyper V SCCM VM snapshot recovery.

I've made it work and it "should" work. However it's not the best practice method of site recovery. You should recover using a SQL restore.
    See good example
    http://anoopcnair.com/2012/07/01/sccm-configmgr-2012-primary-site-server-and-database-recovery-part-1/
Note that you should be using snapshots only on occasions when you are carrying out a risky operation. You can revert it the operation fails. It is not a substitute for a robust backup solution.

  • SQL Service error on SCCM 2012 R2 Evaluation VHD

    Hi
I've downloaded the VHD SCCM 2012 R2, but, SQL Server evaluation is out of date
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40840
I've one error "SLQ Server 2012 has expired...."
    How I do now ?
    Thanks at all
    Scorpio92

Or you could fix this Microsoft?
This issue is at least 2 years old going back to the previous product (SCCM 2012 SP1):
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/151f6aa0-5391-4396-998f-d5d5782ed08f/system-center-2012-service-pack-1-configuration-manager-evaluation-vhd
How was this not fixed when you created the 2012 R2 VHD?
This is literally unfathomable how you could do this even once - you create a VHD for evaluation with a date specific eval of SQL? But then you imbeciles manage to do it at least a second time?
None of you at the team behind this deserve your jobs.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Installation with Remote SQL Instance

I am trying to install SCCM 2012 R2 and during the install it asks for your SQL Server Name.  I have a remote SQL Server which I can ping all day but the installation is telling me "The network path was not found".  I turned the firewall
off on the SQL Server and the install proceeded to the next step so that told me it was a firewall issue.
On my SQL Server I opened the following ports but still the install doesn't get through until I completely disable the firewall.
    TCP and UDP 1434
    TCP and UDP 1433
    80
    443
    TCP and UDP 135
    TCP and UDP 2383
    TCP and UDP 2382
    TCP and UDP 4022
I know this is a little excessive but its ports I've seen suggestions for to open but I'm out of ideas.  I even tried suggestions from earlier posts by Jason Sandy's to setspn and I've verified it is correct with setspn -L but still nothing.  Any
suggestions on what ports are needed during install?  As mentioned, firewall off it works great but as soon as firewall is turned on (even with ports open above) I get no where.
Be kind and Mark as Answer if I helped.

Thanks for everyone' reply's.  It is using the default instance (i'm leaving the field blank as it specifies).  I have checked SQL Server Manager and ensured that under TCP/IP and the IP Address's tab that all the IP1, IP2, IP3, IPALL has nothing
(not even a 0) in TCP Dynamic Ports and the TCP port is specified as 1433 for all those.  I even made ODBC connections that "tested successfully" to the remote sql server.  I'm just confused.
I tried netstat and didn't get any viable results but maybe i'm missing a switch.  With firewall on or off during installation it was making established connections to ports  49320, 49321, 49322, 49323, 49254, 49278, 49302, 49220, 49223, 49224,
49259, 49262, 49263, 49295, 49304, 49332, 49154 and so on.  Obviously I don't think these are relevant and just normal chatter between the two servers.  Its on a VM so i snapshotted the SQL and CM box before the install so I'm able to revert back
(or even reload both boxes if necessary).  I'm going to try a few more things but any more suggestions are more than welcome.

  • SCCM 2012 - Install WSUS Off Box SQL

    Hi all,
installed SCCM 2012 R2 CAS on a 2012 server. The SQL is off box on a server cluster. I've installed WSUS through the 'Add Roles and Features'. I configured it to have local storage for the content and a remote DB instance
(called SQL1 on our cluster). All this worked well and the install completed as expected. I checked the SQL cluster and the "SUSDB" database was created ok.
As a final step, i went to Tools in Server Manager and launched Windows Server Update Services. This brought up the 'Complete WSUS Installation' dialogue box. I entered the exact same DB info as i had done when completing
    the initial install of WSUS:
Yet when i hit 'run' the following message returns:
The relevant bit of logging is shown here:
    2015-01-14 16:58:42  Starting service W3SVC
    2015-01-14 16:58:42  Configuring IIS...
    2015-01-14 16:58:42  Start: ConfigureWebsite
2015-01-14 16:58:42  System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80070422): The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
    So i guess i have two question;
1] is this Post-installation failure something i need to fix? (I presume it is)
2] If i do need to fix this to get sccm running properly, does anyone have any suggestions as to where i should start?
    Thanks

(for three forests which have no trust relationships).
That's not a valid technical reason to have multiple primary sites at all. ConfigMgr does not care about, use, or rely on domain or forest boundaries or client membership in any way for client management. Using multiple primary sites and a CAS will
significantly increase complexity and latency, will add additional points of failure, and will increase overall operational costs.
Concur with Jason here. CAS not needed. You can add in untrusted forests to the Configmgr Console so log as you have an account with permissions in the destination forest, extend the schema, create the system management container and open up any firewall
ports that are need for communication from site server to dc.
Neil Peterson has a great set of blogs on how to achieve this
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/neilp/archive/2012/08/20/cross-forest-support-in-system-center-2012-configuration-manager-part-1.aspx
and ports are listed in this TechNet article under site server -- > Domain Controller. Ensure your RPC ports match the OS of the DC.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/hh427328.aspx
Final agreement with Jason - push to get that SQL local.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - will it support SQL 2012 AAG?

    Dear all,
can't find any information about supported SQL Servers for SCCM 2012 R2.
We are completing the testing phase of SCCM 2012 SP1, but we are not happy about keeping its databases on SQL 2008R2.
Moving DBs to SQL 2012 AAG will significantly simplify our DR plan for SCCM.
Will really apreaciate any useful information on this topic

    Hi,
As far as I know, no support for Always On Availability Groups has been anounneced. The new features in R2 can be found here:

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 is Running on SQL Server 2012 with NO CU

I am working in an org that has SCCM 2012 SP1, it is and always has been running on SQL Server 2012 RTM, with NO CU installed it seems (judging by the file versions 11.0.2100.60, which are not the same as as documented here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2703275).
    sigh..........
So before I upgrade to R2 I will ensure I installed SP2 and CU3 onto SQL Server.
However, I am concerned about WHY SCCM 2012 SP1 requires SQL Server 2012 CU2 as a minimum and what damage may have been done as a result of this configuration?
Are there any actions that can be performed as remediation or health check?
    Can anyone speculate?

However, I am concerned about WHY SCCM 2012 SP1 requires SQL Server 2012 CU2 as a minimum
Because the Microsoft product group decided it that way. All supported SQL versions are listed here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SupConfigSQLDBconfig
Damage? Hard (impossible) to tell. You would have seen errors in various components if there were problems.

  • SCCM 2012 Setup error when setting SQL connection info "Network Path Was Not Found"

    Hello.
I'm facing an issue during CCM 2012 SP1 Beta Setup on step "DB INFORMATION"
My lab is set like that:
1x Front-end WS 2012 rtm "CCM Install on it" (Fresh install = no features installed)
    1x Back-end WS 2012 rtm SQL Server 2012 SP1 (I don't know if this is supported).
On the sql Side there is already a first instance with SCVMM 2012 SP1(beta) environment that work well.
A second dedicated instance is ready for CCM install.
Named Pipes enabled , TCP/IP Enabled
Firewall rules for 1433 and 4022 are enabled on the Domain profile ,other profiles are disabled.
Instance Service is running with a domain account
Everything is published in AD (delegations for computer account), Schema Prep already done manually.
I'm Able to resolve dns name of the SQL server on the CCM VM and telnet 4022 + 1433 ports.

    3 Steps are neccessary:
    1. Make sure the Windows Firewall Service on the SQL Server is running and set to automatic
    2. Add the SQL EXE as a Program Exception to the Firewall on the SQL Server:
To add a program exception to the firewall using the Windows Firewall item in Control Panel.
    - On the Exceptions tab of the Windows Firewall item in Control Panel, click
    Add a program.
    - Browse to the location of the instance of SQL Server that you want to allow through the firewall, for example
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.<instance_name>\MSSQL\Binn, select
    sqlservr.exe, and then click Open
    - Click OK.
    From http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc646023.aspx
    3. The last step neccessary, on the SQL Server, is to set File and Printer Sharing "on". When this is off, the following error occurs: "Network Path was not found"

  • Upgrade to SCCM 2012 R2 Fails by ADD SQL ACCOUNT

    Hello,
im Testing Today the Upgrade to R2.
in  Step to Upgrade the Database  I become an Error xxx\Compuertname not found to add SQL Account
My Server name is xxx.de\computername an not xxx\computername (netbiosname with dot and same with DNS Name) .
Have anywhere an Idea as Workaround for me ?

    Microsoft support were no help...
I found a couple work arounds:
Move the database to the site server, do the upgrade, move the database back to the database server
    Hack the DB:
create a login with a valid user account on the master DB on the SQL server
    stop the sql server
Start SQL in single server mode
From an elevated cmd (Run as administrator), access the right folder where sqlservr.exe executable is located and execute below commands. Normally you will find it at “C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL[InstanceName]\MSSQL\Binn”
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn>sqlservr.exe -m
start SSMS in DAC mode: start SSMS, cancel the connection to the server, click on the
Database Engine Query icon (to the right of the new query button),and put admin: in front of the server name
    run the following:
    select @@servername
    GO
    use master
    GO
    sp_configure 'allow updates', 1
    GO
    reconfigure with override
    GO
    then do this:
    update
    master.sys.server_principals
    set master.sys.server_principals.name
    = 'domain\servername$'
    where master.sys.server_principals.name
    = 'domain.com\dummyaccount'
    restart the sql server
    upgrade SCCM
keep in mind i am currently testing this solution to make sure it doesn't cause issues

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 SQL License Question!!

I have SCCM 2012 SP1 running on one server with the DB running on another server within SQL 2012 SP1. This was running grand for 5+ months green across the board.
Recently I lost SCCM access. I have discovered this is due to the trial of SQL having expired! I have performed quite a bit of research and see that SQL use is granted with the purchase of SCCM 2012 license. i.e. no SQL license is need.
    My questions:
Why has my trial expired if SQL is supposedly free with SCCM 2012 license?
Do I need to upgrade to full version and use SCCM license to activate SQL?
    Possible cause:
I have two instances running on my SQL server: SCCM DB and WSUS DB, is the expirey because of the WSUS DB and will I need to either remove this WSUS DB and, or, use a SQL 2012 license up?
    Quick responses appreciated Thanks!
    MichaelSpaulding

    Hi,
There is no license key provided for SQL server with the SQL User Rights that is included in the System Center license. So you need to get the SQL server keys/media from volume licensing site. There is no relation between the WSUS DB and the fact that the
    SQL trial version has expired.
If you downloaded the SQL Standard media from Volume licensing here is a guide for upgrading SQL server

    Hi,
If you use default instance, please do not fill in the instance name.
You could use “telnet sqlserver 1433” to verify the connection and port.

Does anyone have an idea where I'm forgetting to assign permissions?

Check the properties of your Reporting Point. See the user that is configured to connect to the data source. This user must have a SQL login (eg sysadmin)

  • SCCM 2012 DB migration - certificate chain error

    Hi all
I am having an issue with migrating an SCCM 2012 database to a new SQL instance that doesn't seem to be uncommon however have had no luck in resolving the issue with what other people have suggested on forums...I have an SCCM 2012 installation which currently
has the site database located on a co-located SQL 2012 instance. I am trying to migrate this database to a different SQL 2012 server with multiple named instances.
I have followed the instructions as per the following article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/configurationmgr/archive/2013/04/02/how-to-move-the-configmgr-2012-site-database-to-a-new-sql-server.aspx
I have backed up and restored the database to the new instance as per the guide however when running the Configuration Manager Setup Wizard I am getting the following errors:
*** Failed to connect to the SQL Server, connection type: SMS ACCESS. Configuration Manager Setup 22/04/2015 11:51:10 AM 4428 (0x114C)
INFO: SQL Connection failed. Connection: SMS ACCESS, Type: Secure Configuration Manager Setup 22/04/2015 11:51:10 AM 4428 (0x114C)
*** [08001][-2146893019][Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0]SSL Provider: The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted. Configuration Manager Setup 22/04/2015 11:51:13 AM 4428 (0x114C)
*** [08001][-2146893019][Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0]Client unable to establish connection Configuration Manager Setup 22/04/2015 11:51:13 AM 4428 (0x114C)
*** Failed to connect to the SQL Server, connection type: SMS ACCESS. Configuration Manager Setup 22/04/2015 11:51:13 AM 4428 (0x114C)
The errors will continue to pop up every 3 seconds for a few minutes before timing out and the wizard errors out.
I have tried as others suggested and performed the following with no luck:
    - added the SCCM 2012 service account (account that I'm running the Config Manager wizard as) and computer account to the local administrators group on the SQL server
    - given the SCCM 2012 service account (account that I'm running the Config Manager wizard as) sysadmin privileges to the SQL instance
    - from our internal CA I've issued a certificate for the SQL server and installed it on both the SQL and SCCM server
    - tried exporting the SCCM server cert from the SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER\Trusted People store and installed it into the Local Computer\Personal certificate store on the SQL server. Even tried installing it into the MSSQL$INST02\Personal store (INST02 being
the name of the SQL instance)
Articles that I've already referenced to try and fix this however without any luck:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/b5e1fc09-1f09-4de2-93c3-c0261fdda238/the-certificate-chain-was-issued-by-an-authority-that-is-not-trusted-when-migrating-to-sql-2012?forum=configmanagerdeployment#a294676b-d51a-4049-82cf-adde14f9711a

Does anyone have any suggestions? The ideal would solution for me would be to remove the need to use certificates for the connection to the SQL backend if that it at all possible.
    Cheers
    Brady

At this point I recommend that you connect Microsoft support CSS and ask them how to solve this problem.
IMO you shouldn't need the two certs from your internal CA but you will need the two cert from your site server.
