SCCM 2012 R2 Upgrade - Side by Side

Hi All,
I'm new to SCCM. I have a scenario where I suppose migrate (side by side) SCCM 2012 R2 from SCCM 2012 RTM and upgrade it client and remap with new setup.
Configuration Settings: 01 Primary Site with inbuild SQL, 2000 client and will be used only for software update.
Question: Kindly someone help me with the High level steps with reference document to proceed?

You can only migrate from R2 to R2 according to
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg699364.aspx
That document also covers the steps needed.

  • Reports are not opening after SCCM 2012 R2 Upgrade

    Hi,
I have upgraded my SCCM 2012 SP1 to R2, After that I am unable to run a report and getting below error
System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The DefaultValue expression for the report parameter ‘UserTokenSIDs’ contains an error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
Seems it is a known issue after R2 upgrade,To resolve this issue we need to change the registry value for "EnableRbacReporting" to "0" under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\SRSRP.
It was fine for some time,Later its value reverted back to "1" on its own and again reports stopped working.
Is there any other way to resolve this issue in order to make sure my reports are always available
    Please help me.Thanks
    srkr

    Hi Paul,
We recently upgraded our SCCM 2012 R2 servers to OS 2012 R2, Now i could not able to see the path you mention in your blog.
    mofcomp.exe “C:\Program
    Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Shared\sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof”
Bear in mind that the above command is for SQL Server 2008 and it assumes that SQL is installed in its default location.
The command for SQL Server 2012 is:
    mofcomp.exe “C:\Program
    Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Shared\sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof”
    I can only see D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\<Below
    folders>
    DTS
    SDK
    Tools

  • SCCM 2012 R2 upgrade & broken reports

After upgrading to R2, everything went off w/o a hitch until we tried to run reports (see below for error)
Weird part is *some* of the admins can run reports just fine (for instance, two separate AD groups that are a part of the Full Administrators within SCCM, one can run, while the others cannot).  We can also do this solution: http://www.netdavidic.com/2013/11/how-to-fix-sccm-2012-r2-reporting.html .
While this works, it is not a viable solution moving forward.
Our setup is pretty simple; single site server w/ all services, 2-3 DP's etc.  Server 2012, SQL 2012 SP1.  We upgraded from SCCM 2012 SP1.

    Update:
TL;DR If you're running SQL services under a different context other than Local Service, you'll have problems.
The ultimate solution was this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/77bad9b6-de0e-42d3-ae9f-e7c9d26b4330/reporting-error-after-upgrading-to-sccm-2012-r2?forum=configmanagergeneral
However, I'll provide a bit more detail in case anyone else runs into this.
In our environment, we run all SQL services as a separate account, say domain\CMSQLSERVICE account (so if you looked at the services, you'd see SQL Server, SQL Server Agent & SQL Server Reporting Services all running as CMSQLSERVICE).  We also run
reporting as another account, say domain\CMSQLREPORTING account (SCCM console, Admin, Site Config, Servers & Sites, Reporting services point).  Placing CMSQLREPORTING account into the Windows Authorization Access Group did not resolve the issue as
I had thought.  We then placed CMSQLSERVICE account in there & everything worked as intended.
You'll be able to easily see the errors by looking on the reporting point / server with the SQL database for C:\Users\ACCOUNTRUNNINGSQLSERVICE\AppData\Local\Temp .
It took procmon to lead me to that location for the ultimate solution.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 upgrade: upgrade clients

    Hi,
Please advise on client upgrades. After upgrading the server (Windows 2008 R2 &  SCCM 2012 SP1) to R2, we need to upgrade the clients. Client push is not enabled and we do not want to enable it.
What is the correct way to go then? Right click on client and choose "client install" (that did not do the trick for me), creating a package with the upgrade "from definition" (that loaded the cpu for half an hour to 100 %).
    http://anoopcnair.com/2013/02/19/how-to-automatically-upgrade-sccm-configmgr-2012-rtm-clients-to-sp1/
    Please advise.

I would use the Automatic Client Upgrade feature to get the new client out there..

  • SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 CLIENT upgrade

    Hi,
We have some Windows XP machines with a SCCM 2007 client, connected to a SCCM 2007 server. Meanwhile some client are already migrated to Windows 7 but still connected to SCCM 2007 (and their packages/collections).
    Now we would like to:
-migrate the Windows 7 machines to SCCM 2012 and keep their packages (so no re-run of advertisements) run
-migrate the Windows XP machines by migrating the SCCM 2007 clients then advertise a task sequence (Windows 7) to it
    Questions:
-should we push the sccm client from 2007 or from 2012 server to keep the membership of collections?
-if we have to push from 2007, please advise howto: use ccmsetup.exe, the msi (is this the way to go: http://blog.metasplo.it/2012/10/how-to-upgrade-sccm-2007-clients-to.html)?
    Please advise.

    Jan Hoedt

It doesn't seem to be published on the site.
I'll paste it here. Could you advise?
I would like to test with a cmd, so I made an install.cmd which contains.
    @echo on
    Cscript ConfigMgrStartup.vbs /ConfigMgrStartup.xml
    pause
    Then I edited the configmgrstartup.xml:
*Commmented lab1 since I'm not sure what to put there, why put a machine name and why the forward slash?
    I'd expect domain\administrator.
*Commented out hotfixes since we don't need it
Launched the cmd but nothing happens, no loggings either.

  • Sccm 2012 R2, upgrade, sms agent host,

    Hi
We have today updated from sccm 2012 sp1 cu2 to sccm 2012 R2 however stupidly when R2 had finished there were 3 post upgrade actions I needed to do but I didn't write then down I hoped this was going to be in the configmgrsetup log but hasn't.
Now I find I cant use config manager and the sms agent host, dsm sa data manager and dsm sa connection service all wont start.
Does anyone have any pointers for me please other than to write things down proper.
    Regards
    Dave

    Hi,
    Have you seen this KB.
A service does not start, and events 7000 and 7011 are logged in Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2008 R2

  • SCCM 2012 OS Upgrade

    Dear all,
We have SCCM 2012 SP1 which runs on Win 2008 OS , we would like to upgrade to Win2012 , Can you please let me know the things which need to consider before and after upgrade.
    Thanks,
    Senthil

Upgrade of the Site Server Operating System
Configuration Manager supports an in-place upgrade of the operating system of the site server in the following situations:
In-place upgrade to a higher Windows Server service pack as long as the resulting service pack level remains supported by Configuration Manager.
In-place upgrade from Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2012 R2.
Configuration Manager does not support the following Windows Server upgrade scenarios.
Any version of Windows Server 2008 to any version of Windows Server 2008 R2 or later.
Any version of Windows Server 2008 to any version of Windows Server 2012 or later.
Any version of Windows Server 2008 R2 to any version of Windows Server 2012 or later.
When a direct operating system upgrade is not supported, perform one of the following procedures after you have installed the new operating system:
Install System Center 2012 Configuration Manager with the service pack level that you want, and configure the site according to your requirements.
Install System Center 2012 Configuration Manager with the service pack level that you want and perform a site recovery. This scenario requires you to have a site backup that was created by using the
Backup Site Server maintenance task on the original Configuration Manager site, and that you use the same installation settings for the new System Center 2012 Configuration Manager site.

  • Sccm 2012 sp1 upgrade, new client install hangs

I just upgraded from 2012 to 2012 sp1. When i try the "Install Client" ccmsetup.exe appears to hang on the remote machine. Thoughts?

Thanks for helping me track down the issue. Now for the actual problem.

  • Endpoint Protection Role fails after SCCM 2012 SP1 upgrade 0x8004ff84

We have been in the process upgrading our SCCM RTM to SP1 in order to get to R2 in the end. After upgrading the PRimary Site server to SP1 it seems the Endpoint protection update did not succeed. I removed the role and after that tried it to install again,
    results below.
    EPSetup.log
    I<09/26/14 14:24:25> Installing the SMSEP
<09/26/14 14:24:25> Passed OS version check.
    <09/26/14 14:24:25> File E:\BO\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Client\SCEPInstall.exe version is 4.4.304.0.
<09/26/14 14:24:25> EP version 2.2.903.0 is already installed.
<09/26/14 14:24:25> EP 2.2.903.0 is installed, version is lower than expected installer version 4.4.304.0.
    <09/26/14 14:24:25> Invoking process "E:\BO\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Client\SCEPInstall.exe" /s /q /noreplace /policy "E:\BO\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Client\EP_DefaultPolicy.xml"
    <09/26/14 14:24:25> CreateProcess: E:\BO\Microsoft Configuration Manager, "E:\BO\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Client\SCEPInstall.exe" /s /q /noreplace /policy "E:\BO\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Client\EP_DefaultPolicy.xml"
    <09/26/14 14:25:00> CreateProcess: -2147156092
    <09/26/14 14:25:01> SCEPInstall.exe returns 0x8004ff84
<09/26/14 14:25:01> SMSEP could not be installed. The return code was -2147156092
    <09/26/14 14:25:02> ~RoleSetup().
When I manually try to run the SCEPInstall.exe setup asks for certain msi files it cannot find. Anyone seen this behaviour before? I'm not able to find information on this one.

It seems the uninstallation of the current SCEP client fails. It uses the new SCEPinstall.exe version to do the uninstall which fails. I copied the old version from another computer and used that to do the uninstall manually scepinstall.exe /u
It asks a few times for a location to find the msi files used to do the uninstallation. You have to point at a temporary map created at the drive root location. The Uninstall succeeds.
Now the Endpoint Protection role can be added again and will also succeed.

  • IBCM not working after SCCM 2012 R2 Upgrade from SP1

Just upgraded to CM2012 R2 from SP1, 1 primary site and 1 internet facing MP for IBCM in DMZ - both are on Server 2008 R2.  PKI has already been setup and was functional before upgrade.  After R2 upgrade, my internet clients cannot
communicate. CcmMessaging.log on the client states: "Post to https ibcmsiteserver,domain,com/ccm_system/request failed with 0x87d00231".  LocationServices.log shows: "LSUpdateInternetManagementPoints: Failed to retrieve internet
MPs from MP ibcmsiteserver, domain, com with error 0x87d00231, retaining previous list"
(Had to edit the links to allow post)
Has anyone run into this before and how do I resolve it?  Thanks,

CRL checking setting was enabled, not sure if this was enabled before the upgrade or not.  Once I disabled CRL checking, the internet client still wouldn't communicate until it was connected to the domain network and received the new policy settings
    (I assume).
Now, the question is how do I update the rest of my internet clients without them connecting to the domain network?  (VPN is not an option)
    Thank you for the help!!

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Clients are not retrieving policy

Hi - I know this question has been asked many times before - but I have tried almost everything and a no closer to solving the problem.
Background: Recently a SCCM 2012 SP1 single stand-alone site was upgraded to SCCM 2012 R2. The site is a single stand-alone primary site with a single DP, single MP, using mixed mode
(HTTP). The R2 upgrade ran without any problem and all SCCM components are showing as healthy.
A few test SCCM 2012 SP1 clients were upgraded to the R2 client using client-push.
However the upgraded clients are not retrieving policy from the Management Point. In the Actions Tab of the SCCM client, only Machine Policy Retrieval and User Policy Retrieval are available. But kicking of those actions does not
result in any of the advertised applications, Task Sequences becoming available. Infact Custom Client Settings are not being set either (e.g. Organisation Name in software Center).
I have checked and rechecked the following:
The upgrade of the client completed successfully (checked ccmsetup.log) and the version number went from 5.00.7804.1000 (SP1) to 5.00.7958.1000 (R2).
The MP health in the SCCM console is showing healthy.
The MP access URL's load correctly when run from SCCm client computers
    “http://<ServerName>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist” is ok
    “http://<ServerName>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mpcert” is ok
The SCCM clients are assigned to the site correctly – verified via the SCCM client and
    ClientLocation.Log
ClientIDManager.Log is not showing any errors
CCMExec.log and ExecMgr.log don't show any advertisements being executed (Execmgr.log is almost empty and only has "Software ditrbution site settings policy does not yet exist on the client). If the client is not yest
    registered this is expected behaviour")
The SCCM clients are Approved and NOT Blocked in SCCM
I have attempted to upgrade the SCCM client and also completely removed and reinstalled - and both have the same result (no client policy dpwnloaded)
I have also deleted the above clients completely from SCCM, Run divoery again and pushed the client to the machines again ...with the same result (SCCM client installs, assigns to correct site and then no policy downloaded)
SCCM 2012 Boundaries are configured correctly and assigned to Boundary Groups correctly
The SCCM client’s do not have the firewall enabled
Changed boundary from AD Site to Subnet to IP Address Range: Same issue exists
Uninstalled MP role and reinstalled it: same Issue exists
Tried to connect to SCCm client using 3rd party SCCM Client center tool but cannot connect
??? Not sure what else to try ???

Hi all - sorry for the late response.
We managed to resolve the issue after logging a job with Microsoft Support.
The issue was that the SCCM 2012 R2 upgrade corrupted 2 tables in the SCCM Database - leading to corrupt SCCM client policies.
I am pasting the resolution email from Microsoft below:
(NOTE: This may not be the exact sypmtoms you are experiencing so do not implement this fix assuming it will fix your problem!)
    ISSUE:
    - All clients are unable to download policies from the server
    CAUSE:
    - Bad policies in the Database
    RESOLUTION:
-Issue with PADbID - Run below query against SCCM DB to verify corrupt entries:
    SELECT * FROM
ResPolicyMap WHERE machineid = 0 and PADBID IN (SELECT PADBID FROM PolicyAssignment WHERE BodyHash IS NULL)
Confirmed Bad policies entries in the SCCM database
Run below query to delete the bad policy after which we resolved the issue:
    Delete FROM ResPolicyMap
WHERE machineid = 0 and PADBID IN (SELECT PADBID FROM PolicyAssignment WHERE BodyHash IS NULL)"

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Client TroubleShooting

    Hello,
I have  a SCCM 2012 R2 Upgraded environment where I have 1000+ clients. but only 600 clients are reporting active in the console.
Atleast 200 clients doesn't have the site information at all.
Rest of the 200 is reporting with Client as No
Kindly help me with the Troubleshooting steps for the same.

Most common issues for client installation failures are:
SCCM server unable to ping the machine or resolve name.
    FW enabled on remote machine.
Unable to access admin shares (C$, Admin$) on remote machine.
    WMI issues on remote machine.
BITS service disabled in remote machine.
Less than 500MB free space on C drive.
Ports Used During Configuration Manager Client Deployment
Windows Firewall and Port Settings for Client Computers in Configuration Manager
    Troubleshoot administrative shares
    Computer Client Hardware Requirements
Check that ccmsetup folder was created under C:\Windows.
Check the following 2 files with
    CMTrace.exe: ccmsetup.log and
    client.msi.log  under
    C:\Windows\ccmsetup\Logs and look for errors.
For client with no site information, you need to make sure your boundary group match client IP or AD site.

  • Applocker with Windows Installer rules and SCCM 2012

    Hi,
We have been running Applocker since two years on Windows 7 Enterprise clients with SCCM 2007 as management and distribution tool.
This setup was working fine until we migrated to SCCM 2012 and started to encounter problems with msi-packages not being able to self-heal when the source was the sccm client cache.
We have recreated this scenario in a lab environment.
    Our setup is this:
    Windows 2008 R2 (DC)
    Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 (Client)
    Standard user (not admin)
    SCCM 2012 R2 (upgraded from 2007)
    Applocker with these rules:
    Executable Default rules enabled (Enforced)
Windows Installer Default rules enabled (Enforced)
Exception for %WINDIR% (where SCCM cache is located)
    Script Default Rules enabled (Enforced)
Application msi-package with self-heal (omus) and advertised shortcuts
We install the application from the sccm cache (%windir%\ccmcache) and then trigger a self-heal (user components being copied to the user profile).
What we see on the client is: Error 1718. File C:\Windows\ccmcache\54\application.msi was rejected by digital signature policy.
Event log is showing: Event 1008: The installation of
    C:\Windows\ccmcache\54\application.msi
is not permitted due to an error in software restriction policy processing. The object cannot be trusted.
It looks like the file cannot be evaluated by Applocker and therefore is not trusted. We get an Access Denied error when testing AppLocker-policy with the following PS-command,
Get-AppLockerPolicy -Effective | Test-AppLockerPolicy -Path C:\Windows\ccmcache\54\application.msi. This command works fine when accessing files in the cache-folder on a SCCM2007-client.
For testing purposes we recreated a similar folder structure: C:\Windows\Folder1\Folder2\application.msi where the user has no permissions on Folder2 and read on the other folders and the File.msi.
This is how the permissions look like in SCCM 2012 (no user permissions on %Windir%\ccmcache). Applocker cannot evaluate the trust-level of application.msi.
The GPO setting “Bypass traverse checking” is set to everyone.
As we can see, the permissions are the same on SCCM 2007 client cache (%Windir%\syswow64\ccm\cache) but we do not have this issue there.
Has anyone got Applocker (with windows installer rules actived) to work with SCCM 2012 and windows installer self-heal?

More info. I found some people also encounter this same issue, but specific msi, take a look at

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2 - Side by Side

    Hi Friends,
Currently our SCCM infrastructure is running with a CAS site, 2 Primary Sites and 8 Secondary sites with SCCM 2012 SP1. Now we want to update this infrastructure from SCCM 2012 SP1 to 2012 R2. But we want remove CAS site and to keep only single Primary Site.
Can this be done in Side by Side migration from SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2 ? If yes then please suggest how to migrate all data (Packages/Clients) from SCCM 2012 SP1 to new infra on SCCM 2012 R2.
    Thanks in advance.

You don't have many (supported) options here. Detaching a site is not possible, so indeed your only option left is to migrate. Problem here is that the supported scenario is from a ConfigMgr 2012 R2 site to a ConfigMgr 2012 R2 site (see:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682006.aspx). That means you should first upgrade your old environment before you can start with your migration.
