SCCM 2012 R2 with Server 2003 DIstribution Point

Does anyone know if Server 2003 SP2 can be used as a distribution point? I have a fellow co-worker having issues with getting PxE to work.

That's right. Windows 2003 Server is not supported. Your original question was about Windows Server 2003 SP2.
That is supported for PXE but does not support multicast or PXE booting of EFI.

  • SCCM 2012: failed to connect to distribution point

    Hi folks,
I have an intermittent issue and can't figure out the reason so far.
I have a primary server and multiple distribution points. The primary does not have a DP configured. When I deploy a new distribution point, I have the following messages:
Distribution Manager failed to connect to the distribution point. Check your network and firewall settings.
    and
Distribution Manager failed to find or create the defined share or volume on distribution point.
    DistMgr.log shows the following:
    CWmi::Connect() failed to connect to \\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\root\CIMv2. Error = 0x800706BA
    STATMSG: ID=2391 SEV=E LEV=M SOURCE="SMS Server" COMP="SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER" SYS=BBD-SCCM-E.domain.name SITE=IDC PID=2120 TID=3376 GMTDATE=do jun 28 07:24:17.463 2012 ISTR0="["Display=\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=IDC"]\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"

Cannot find or create the package share.
Error occurred. Performing error cleanup prior to returning.
However, after a while (couple of hours), it looks like everything is distributed on the DP. But this message keeps on coming back during the course of the day and every time a new DP is deployed.
I checked permissions, IIS, WMI, but I can't find out the cause of this behavior. I have events about WMI (id 5605) but I can connect to the WMI workspace (root\MicrosoftIISv2) with no issues.
Can anyone shed some light on this please? It would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Safdar.

To clarify: it's not enough to tick "Windows Authentication" in Add Roles/Features - it actually has to be enabled in IIS configuration.
There are also suggestions to run mofcomp.exe smsdpprov.mof

  • SCCM 2012 R2 unable to install Distribution Point on Windows 7

We have a SCCM 2012 R2 CU 2, single site. We would like to deploy the distribution point at 1 of the branch but hit with issues.
We tried various workaround. Reinstall IIS, manually install IIS.
We had repair WMI, and test WBEMTEST to the WMI and proof it able to connect, given security permission to everyone. Problem still persist.
    The distmgr.log shows

  • Can we assign 2 IPs for a SCCM 2012 primary site server and use 1 IP for communicating with its 2 DPs and 2nd one for communicating with its upper hierarchy CAS which is in a different .Domain

    Hi,
Can we assign 2 IPs for a SCCM 2012 primary site server and use 1 Ip for communicating with its 2 DPs and 2nd one for communicating with its upper hierarchy CAS . ?
Scenario: We are building 1 SCCM 2012 primary site and 2 DPs in one domain . In future this will attach to a CAS server which is in different domain. Can we assign  2 IPs in Primary site server , one IP will use to communicate with its 2 DPs and second
IP for communicating with the CAS server which is in a different domain.?
    Details:
    1)Server : Windows 2012 R2 Std , VM environment .2) SCCM : SCCM 2012 R2 .3)SQL: SQL 2012 Std
    Thanks
    Rajesh Vasudevan

First, it's not possible. You cannot attach a primary site to an existing CAS.
Primary sites in 2012 are *not* the same as primary sites in 2007 and a CAS is 2012 is completely different from a central primary site in 2007.
CASes cannot manage clients. Also, primary sites are *not* used for delegation in 2012. As Torsten points out, multiple primary sites are used for scale-out (in terms of client count) only. Placing primary sites for different organizational units provides
no functional differences but does add complexity, latency, and additional failure points.
Thus, as the others have pointed out, your premise for doing this is completely incorrect. What are your actual business goals?
As for the IP Addressing, that depends upon your networking infrastructure. There is no way to configure ConfigMgr to use different interfaces for different types of traffic. You could potentially manipulate the routing tables in Windows but that's asking
    for trouble IMO.

  • Connect SQL Server 2012 from Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0

    Hi,
I currently have a setup where ETL tool Ab Intio, running on a Linux server, connects to the SQL Server 2005 through a passthrough Wintel server with Windows Server 2003 OS using SQL server native client 9.0
Now I have the requirement to upgrade the SQL server from 2005 to 2012.
My question is, will it be possible to connect to SQL server 2012 through Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0?
As per the specs, I need native client 11.0+ to fully support SQL Server 2012, but then, as per specs, native client 11.0 doesnot run on Windows server 2003. OS upgradation is currently not on the cards.
So will it be possible to the run the basic queries we use currently, if we can connect SQL server 2012 through Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0/10.0, without updgrading the OS of the Wintel server?
    Thanking you in advance!

    Hi Soumya,
Yes, you can use the SQL Server Native Client shipped with SQL Server 2005 to connect to a SQL Server 2012 instance, and there is no need to upgrade the operating system.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 with remote WSUS on Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012

I am rebuilding my SCCM 2012 lab on Server 2012 R2 x64 OS now.
I have 1 primary site, remote SQL server 2012, and remote WSUS server.
Is the WSUS console still required on my primary site running server 2012? If so are the below the correct steps to get this working?
    Install Console on primary server:
Go to Server Manager à Add Roles and features, Navigate to the features section.
    Remote Server Manager tools
    >Role Administration Tools
--Select Windows Server Update Services Tools Only
Are there any post hotfixes to install?
Intalling WSUS full version on remote server:
Go to Server Manager à Add Roles and features, Server Roles section.
    Windows Server Update Services
Do I need to select this as well on the remote wsus server? >Role Administration Tools -Select Windows Server Update Services Tools Only
Since my SQL server is on a remote server do I select the below only?
Are there any post hotfixes to install?

    Hi,
One Part of the question is already answered. The second part is: If you want to use a remote SQL Server you need to select exactly what you selected in your screenshot.

  • Procedure performing a "Retry Secondary Site" Operation in SCCM 2012 R2 Secondary Server

    Dear Brother,
My SCCM 2012 R2 Secondary Site Server, unfortunately crashed and required to be restored, doing this I end up performing a "Retry Secondary Site Operation.
One by one I am clearing out the errors but there are few remaining errors on the prerequisite checks:
1.[Failed]:The logon account for the SQL Server service cannot be a local user account, NT SERVICE\<sql service name> or LOCAL SERVICE.  You must configure the SQL Server service to use a valid domain account, NETWORK SERVICE, or LOCAL SYSTEM.
Actions Done: SQL Related Services use Logon As Domain Account "Microsoft-Domain\BillAdmin" , but still the above message still appears in the logs.
    Actions Done: None
2.[Failed]:The collation of the site database does not match the collation of the parent site's database.  All sites in a hierarchy must use the same database collation.
3.[Failed]:The site server might be unable to publish to Active Directory. The computer account for the site server must have Full Control permissions to the System Management container in its Active Directory domain. You can ignore this warning if you have
manually verified these permissions. For more information about your options to configure required permissions, see
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=233190.
Actions Done: None, as this machine is previously a working Secondary site for 1 Year already. So I do not suspect anything from the current related configuration.
4.[Failed]: Either the user account running Configuration Manager Setup does not have sysadmin SQL Server role permissions on the SQL Server instance selected for site database installation, or the SQL Server instance could not be contacted to verify permissions.
    Setup cannot continue.
Action Taken:  Domain Account "Microsoft-Domain\BillAdmin" has a
Sysadmin roles and actually all the check boxes are chosen to acquire all SQL account roles"
    5. [Failed]:Prerequisite checks complete with failure - check ConfigMgrPrereq.log
in the root of the primary site server system drive.
6[Failed]:Unable to complete secondary site server installation - check ConfigMgrSetup.log in the root of the secondary site server system drive.

  • Running WMI repair script on SCCM 2012 primary site server

    Hi,
running WMI rebuilding repository script on SCCM 2012 primary site server. Any idea what kind of issue on SCCM environment it will cause.
    Regards,
    Gopi

Gah!  did you already do so? I hope your resume is up to date.  As to what kind of issues:  it'll break everything, and nothing will ever work right ever again.  Ever. Again.

  • Deploying Applications with SCCM 2012 R2 to Server 2008 R2 RDS servers

I'm having some trouble finding some concrete information from Microsoft regarding the deployment of applications to RDS servers using SCCM 2012 R2. There seems to be a lot of conjecture, old information and old wives tales floating around and I was hoping
I could get some information confirmed!
    1. MSI installs automatically switch to install mode on RDS servers?
I've seen this mentioned a few times. I've also seen it mentioned that it is only true when running the MSI from the console session manually (i.e clicking the MSI file) not running as SYSTEM as SCCM would usually do. Can someone confirm if they do this
    themselves or not?
    2. Users still logged in when deploying applications?
Is it possible to deploy an application while users are still logged in? Is this only related to going into 'install' mode and taking the chance that a user will do something that will cause issues? Or is it known to cause issues?
I guess those are the main ones, I'm experienced in SCCM but not with deploying to RDS servers, I cant seem to find any straight answers!
    Anyway, thanks in advance!

I've never had large enough RDS environment to use SCCM for app push, but from my experience in managing 2012/R2 RDS and local installs, I never bother with switching to install mode anymore and it works fine.  Now if you're skeptical, you can
easily build this into a script that runs as a pre-req to your .MSI as part of the software package in SCCM so it's not a big deal.
As for installing apps while users are logged in, shouldn't be a problem if you're installing a new app., if however you're updating an existing application or uninstalling it, then it may be best to drain that RDS host first of all user sessions then do
the work just to be safe.  this also helps avoid reboots.

  • Package content on Primary Site Server (no Distribution Point Role)

    Hey,
I have the situation that there are 3 Servers with following roles installed:
     1.File Server
2.SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 Primary Site Server / Database Server (Was a distribution Point previously to update to CU3)
     3.Distribution Point
Our packages are all stored as "source" on the File Server.
Now some SCCM Applications / packages are created and distributed to the distribution point.
Unfortunately on the Primary Site Server the folder "SCCMContendLib" extends as it does on the distribution point (so this means that all packages are distributed to the primary site server, too.
My question is now- why? :)
Is this really needed (I see no reason for it) or is it a problem in the infrastructure (if yes - how can I resolve it)?
    Thank you for help
    Kind Regards

Not a problem with your infrastructure. What you're describing it the default behavior for ConfigMgr, in terms of storing content on the primary.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 site server client installation error: The client version 5.00.7958.1000 does not match the MP version 5.00.7804.1000.

    Hello,
When I try to install the client on the site server itself it gives me this error message and fails the ccmsetup. I only have this on the site server. Clients to other servers and computers are pushed fine. If I check the version of the MP it says 5.00.7958.1000
in ADSI. I removed the MP object in CN=System, CN=System Management. Waited for it to be regenerated automatically by SCCM but the installation doesn't work still.
I tried to install with several methods including directly from ccmsetup.exe in ccmsetup folder, pushing by sccm itself, running from commandline, ...
I run SCCM 2012 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and the database on SQL 2008 on Server 2008 R2

    Kind regards

I agree with Idan. You can easily remove the Management Point Site System role and add it again with no adverse effect. This should solve your problem.

  • SCCM 2012 issue with HTTPS

    Hello,
I have been trying to get a new SCCM 2012 environment running and I’ve hit a road block and hope someone can help.
    I have installed SCCM 2012 SP1 w/ CU2 on a Windows 2012 server w/ MS SQL 2012.
When I installed SCCM I chose the PKI option and followed the instructions below to setup all the required certificates.
I have not yet installed any clients until I’ve verified everything is working correctly on the server.
    PKI Setup Followed -> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682023.aspx
    The errors I’m seeing-
Both the Management Point and PORTALWEB are not responding to HTTP requests.
“The http status code and text is 401, Unauthorized.”  I was chalking this up to how I have SCCM setup for HTTP only, but I could be wrong in thinking this.
    If I navigate to either
    https://<ServerName>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist OR
https://<ServerName>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mpcert I get the error “HTTP Error 403.7 – Forbidden”.

NOTE – “Certificate [Thumbprint xxxx3324]” is the certificate binded to the Default Web Site as instructed in the PKI setup documentation.
    What I have done-
Verified that the web and client certificates have the same and valid trusted root certificate.
Disabled CRL checking on web server.
If I modify the SSL Setting for SMS_MP in IIS to anything other than “Client Certificate: Required” then the 403 error goes away for the MPLIST and MPCERT checks and they are successful.
But this is changing the default setting and I am cautious to do this since it will decrease security.
Also I’m not sure where else would need to be changed and potentially breaking other functionality.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you

    Hello,

Anyone else seen this issue?  Have a possible resolution?  Thanks!
When you use Internet Explorer to test out the Management Point, you will have to ensure that you have installed a
Client Authentication certificate into your Current User certificate store. When Internet Explorer is running under your user account, it will not search for certificates inside the
    Local Computer certificate store.
Go ahead and enroll your user account in a Client Authentication certificate, and then try the request again. Internet Explorer will detect that a
Client Authentication certificate is required for the IIS website, and will prompt you to select the appropriate certificate to use for the request. See the screenshot below for an example.
After selecting the appropriate Client Authentication certificate, the request should succeed, and the XML response you are expecting will be displayed. In my screenshot below, the reason the certificate is not showing as "valid"
in Internet Explorer, is because it uses the Subject Name format that ConfigMgr requires for site system roles that are accessible from Internet
    and Intranet.

  • Server 2012 replacement for Server 2003 catalogs and ixsso.dll

Previously, we used the Indexing Service on Windows Service 2003 to set up catalogs and then used ixsso.dll to write web apps that could query the catalogs. With Windows Server 2012 things apparently have changed. How would I accomplish something similar
with Windows Server 2012? I've been searching but I guess I don't know what I'm looking for. Can someone point me in the right direction? What buzzwords am I looking for with Server 2012?
    Thanks
    Terry

    Hi,
In Windows 2012 the indexing service has gone. To work around for this we may try putting the windows indexing service command line tool and dll’s in the System32 folder.
