SCCM 2012 SP1 Beta Site System Roles Installation issues

My apologies if this isn't the correct place to post this, but I didn't see any SCCM 2012 forums to post this. If there is a better place for this post, please direct me to the proper location. In the meantime this is my scenario:
I am currently evaluating SCCM 2012 for our company. I have installed SCCM 2012 SP1 Beta on a test server running Server 2012 and SQL 2012. I am testing its ability to manage Windows 8. The server is a member of our company domain. I have enabled Active
Directory Forest Discovery and CM has detected our forest and domain and set up boundaries automatically.
I am trying to add the Application Catalog Web Service and Website Roles. When I start the wizard I get exclamation marks next to Active Directory forest and domain fields in the wizard. It shows our proper forest and domain names but won't proceed
because it insists that the FQDN for my forest/domain is invalid. If I enter any other forest/domain name (e.g. yahoo.com, google.com, help-me.com) the exclamation marks clear and the wizard will proceed. SC seems to recognize our forest/domain name and
denies it. Adding different suffixes (e.g. .net, .org, .local) changes nothing. I've even flipped our forest-domain name (e.g. "a-b.com" to "b-a.com": we have a "-" in our name) and it STILL denies it. If I add a prefix to the forest/domain name, the
wizard is happy and lets me proceed (e.g. "domain.a-b.com") Did I miss something in initial setup? If this is a bug in the SP1 beta, how do I let anyone know about this? Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

  • SCCM Site System Roles - Installation/Configuration chronological order

    Hello folks,
I have been reading quite a few documents in order to expertise my SCCM knowledge. I wonder is there any best practice that we need to follow while implementing the Site System Roles.. Like 1. SUP, 2. MP, 3. DP? and what makes the difference in doing so?
    Thanks,

This cannot be answered in a single forums thread because there are too many factors involved (business needs, customer's environment, LAN/WAN setup, budget etc). Adding multiple roles will provide load balancing (kind of) and high availability (also
    kind of).

    2) Able to telnet 1433 and 4022 from both primary to secondary and vice versa
    3) SQL server Configuration Manager , TCP IP port was set to 1433.

    Thanks

    Hi Guys
Exact same problem as described above:
Been told to install SQL Express manually first, but even after that, we continued to get the same problem.
The SQL Communication between the 2 sites doesn't seem to work.
I noticed that the Primary's SQL Security Account doesn't get created on Primary DB, in the Database replication the link has not yet been created either.
The "Exec spDrsSendSubscriptionInvalid 'Secondary 3 digit site code','Primary 3 digit site code','configuration data'" worked on 1 Secondary, but fails on all the rest.
Uninstalling/Installing the Secondary doesn't work either.

  • Issue getting WDS to Install for PXE in SCCM 2012 SP1 Primary Site

    Hi All
I'm trying to get PXE boot working from our SCCM 2012 box but it never actually gets to the point of installing WDS when I check the box for PXE booting. I don't have  SMSPXE.log since it never gets to that point and the distmgr.log  never reaches
    that point either. I've tried
uncheck pxe boot option - restart - re-check
uncheck pxe-boot - restart - install wds - leave it unconfigured - reboot - check pxe boot
uncheck pxe-boot - uninstall the vcredist 2008 packages - rebooting - install vcredist - check pxe boot option
the above with installing wds unconfigured
Below is the relevant portions of the distmgr.log file after I enable the pxe boot option no matter what manner of software is installed. We are running it on a VM in a Hyper-V 2012 enviornment in Windows 2008 SP2 x64. This issue is similar to this link

HI again, sorry for the late reply.
By saying that WDS don't get configured, I mean that when i enabled the PXE functionality, the WDS role got installed but the folder remote install wasn't created.
I ahve now actually gone back to an earlier snapshot from before I started play with the PXE settings of the VM and now nothing happens when activating PXE on the distribution point, but not even the smspxe.log is created.
The Account used is a local admin and the distribution point is located on the primary site server.
EDIT: in the events log, it states the following:SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER on computer XXX.XXXX.XXX reported: SIte comoponent Manger failed to to install on this site system.
    On error (source: MsiInstaller) below:
Product Application Web Service -- Internal Error 25001. 80070490
I havent mentioned it earlier, but the Server OS is Server 2012.
I hope this might help you help me :)

This laptop is in an OU with bitlocker related settings applied via GPO, including allowing enhanced PINs, requiring backup of the recovery passwords and key packages to AD, and to require TPM+PIN for the startup authentication.
Bitlocker provisioning is working on my production server using only MDT (No SCCM), with a task sequence deploying Windows 7.  I copied some of the variables from the customsettings.ini over to a collection variable in SCCM for
the collection I'm testing deployment to. Putting those same variables in collection variables should work the same as if they were in the custom settings, but only for members of that collection, right?
The variables set in the collection variables area are
    BDEInstall - TPMPIN
    BDEInstallSuppress - NO
    BDEPin - SET
    BDERecoveryKey - AD
    BDERecoveryPassword - TRUE
    TPMOwnerPassword - SET
OSDBitlockerMode - TPMPin (This one wasn't copied from the other MDT share, but added just for sccm.
I didn't copy the BDEWaitforEncryption variable, it didn't seem like that one would be necessary with the pre-provisioning.   What am I doing wrong here?

If not you could add a set variable action to your task sequence after the UDI wizard to set OSDBitLockerPIN to %BDEPin%. You could add a condition to the action to only run if BDEPin exists.
I don´t quite fallow, how I can switch these variables between. I admit I some time have difficulties to understand the variables. Could you mark discribe me the settings of set variable step I have to enter. Thanks!
With Confmgr step Enable Bitlocker I have another issue - it does not allow to to enter pin code with letters.
No problem :-). There is a task sequence action called "set task sequence variable". Just add one of these actions to the task sequence after the UDI wizard. There are only two things you have to configure in the action, the variable you want to set
and the value you want to set that variable to. The UDI wizard will create the variable BDEPin with a value equal to the PIN you enter in the UDI wizard page. So in your "set task sequence variable" action enter the variable name as OSDBitlockerPIN
and the value as %BDEPin%. This action will then create the OSDBitlockerPIN variable with the value that was stored in BDEPin by the UDI wizard. The built in SCCM action will then use this as the PIN rather than whatever value is configured in the task sequence
    editor.
However the best solution would probably be to get the UDI wizard to set OSDBitlockerPIN rather than BDEPin in the first place. I think you can do this in the UDI wizard editor or directly in the XML. I don't use the editor these days so can't recall offhand.
I will take a look at this next week.
Most of the task sequence actions support variables and it enables you to configure the action dynamically at runtime. For example the same sequence can be used to deploy systems into different domains, languages, applications etc. all by setting variables.
It's the basis of how the UDI wizard works, it just sets variables which are then consumed by either MDT scripts or task sequence actions. The variables can be configured by UDI, collections, MDT customsettings.ini, MDT database or scripts. Dynamic deployment
is definitely the way to go :-).
I think you are correct about the built-in action not supporting enhanced PIN. I think it only supports standard numeric PIN. Whether setting the PIN via the variable works around a restriction in the task sequence editor I am not sure, I suspect not.
    Mark.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 system discovery

    Hey,
I need to know that how does a SCCM 2012 SP1 discovers the systems.
Is it using a  Boundary range or using the OU added in Active Directory System discovery. if suppose the systems are discovered using boundary than whats the need of adding OU in Active Directory System discovery and vice-verse. Please clear my concept
    on this.

    Awating response,
    Hasan Reza

Well Finally I sorted my issue ,
Just want to share the solution, may be it would be helpful to some one else and save some times
The problem was that the Xp images has lot of hidden NIC installed , this would not allow the system to work with the correct NIC card and Ip address (System -> View Hidden Devices) , what I did 2 things
    1) Copied the OSD Script folder from the SCCM Server to the Client pc and ran that ztigather.wsf and captured the output , it was evident that it showed capturing multiple adapters , (There are some blogs that pointed out that OSD can capture only one nic
due to the only one Adapter0 section being defined in the ZTIgather.xml file,)
    2) I open the registry at the xp pc navigated to HKLM-> System ->Current Control Set-> Services-> TCPIP -> Parameters-> Interfaces ->
Expect for the NIC card that had the Ip address assigned I deleted all other nic card's guid,
As then post running deleting the old scanstate (USMTUTIL /rd c:\statestore) , reran the task and VOILA..
All worked fine , below are the two post I followed , though notvery relevant but they were helpful and help me reached the conclusion.
    Thanks,
    Hasan Reza.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Secondary site server will support the DMZ Zone?

We are planning for SCCM 2012 Migration, currently we have separate Primary server in DMZ.
Kindly suggest what is the best method to deploy in the DMZ (separate primary or secondary or DP) because we have only 500 Client in DMZ.

    Hi,
There is a blog talking about this error. You could try the method in the blog.
To summarise, when installing SCCM 2012 SP1 secondary site on a pre-configured SQL 2012 instance regardless which SQL edition is being used, “NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM” account needs to be given
securityadmin and sysadmin rights. If SQL Express is used, there are few additional steps need to be carried out to configure the SQL TCP connection as documented in my previous blog:

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 - Native SQL backup

    HI Experts,
I got native SCCM 2012 SP1 SQL backup content (But no site server backup). Can i still restore the SCCM 2012 SP1 primary site server. Please advice
    Regards, Pratap

With Configuration Manager 2012 SP1+, it is possible to recover a site (secondary sites don’t count) using a standard, native SQL Server database backup.
"Configuration Manager can recover the site database from the Configuration Manager backup maintenance task or from a site database backup that you perform by using another process. For example, you can restore the site database from a backup that is performed
as part of a Microsoft SQL Server maintenance plan. Starting in Configuration Manager SP1, you can restore the site database from a backup that is performed by using System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager (DPM). For more information,
    see
Using Data Protection Manager to Back up Your Site Database."

  • Can I have an SCCM 2012 R2 server and a SCCM 2012 SP1 server in the same site?

We are currently using SCCM 2012 SP1/MDT 2012 Update 1 to deploy Windows 7, and to migrate existing XP installs to Windows 7 (using the offline USMT functionality in MDT).  We are moving forward with Windows 8.1, and understand that
we need to upgrade our SCCM infrastructure to SCCM 2012 R2/MDT 2013.  We also understand that this will cause us to lose the ability to migrate XP machines, since MDT 2013 uses a newer version of USMT that doesn’t support XP.
What do we need to do to continue to support our XP migrations, and enable deployments of Windows 8.1?
Can we have two SCCM servers in the same Site running different versions of SCCM? Do we need a separate site?

You don't explicitly need ConfigMgr 2012 R2 to support Win 8.1. SP1 CU3 will suffice although managing a few things like boot images is a little more difficult: http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2013/10/21/how-to-enable-windows-8.1-deployment-in-sc-2012-configmgr-sp1-cu3.aspx
You could create two separate site hierarchies, but that would be painful and involve tons of duplication. There would be other issues also if the systems are located on the same subnets and in the same AD forest.
The best option is to get rid of XP. EOL is in less than 30 days!
Next best is to stay on SP1 CU3 until you get rid of XP. I know that sucks, but keeping XP around is the root cause of this and many other coming issues in any organization wanting to keep it around.

  • SCVMM 2012 SP1 Beta Installation Errors

    Hi All,
Pulling my hair out trying to get SCVMM 2012 SP1 Beta to install on a Windows 2012 machine. The machine was a new installation and had IIS installed, Hyper-V Role, Failover Clustering, SQL Server 2012, AD (it is a domain controller).
Getting an error regarding Failover Clustering, which is definitely installed with all management tools and powershell module. Have even tried uninstalling it and then running the VMM Setup, and I then get a different error. Logs from both installation attempts

  • SCCM and ForeFront Endpoint Protection point site system role

Thanks for looking at this......I am working with SCCM 2012, and ForeFront Endpoint Protection has been set up as an Endpoint Protection point site system role.  Up to now we just haven't had to mess with it much, it just has worked.  I
have been busy packaging applications for the eager public. I have one pc that has had the Endpoint client self destruct.  Had to remove it via the control panel.  I next did a machine policy retrieval and evaluation cycle (among others) and sccm
shows that it is aware that this particular machine needs FEP. It lists it as "To Be Installed".  How long will this take?  I have things set for "as soon as possible".   Am I at the mercy of Sccm?  Also, is there
a way to force the install?  Thanks for any light you can shed on this!

This will depend on your SCCM client policy settings to allow SCEP installation outside of maintenance windows (if you have any).
It will also depend if you are using 2 hour deployment "randomizer" option in your SCCM client policy.
Lastly, you can install it with BITS that have already been downloaded with SCCM client install.

Working with SCCM R2 in a lab environment and I'm Stumped.  I expanded my primary site into a hierarchy and on the new CAS I don't have the add site systems role menu when connected to the CAS.
This is what I see when connected to the primary site:
This is what I see when connected to the CAS:
Logged on as the domain administrator account used to install both roles, full administrator on both sites.  I can't find any documentation that this is a designed change.
    Any Ideas?

At this point that's not relevant, I'm not even getting the menu item to start the wizard.  I'm logged in with the account that did the installation yet it's almost like I have view-only permissions. I'm beginning to think there's a trust issue between
my systems so I'm starting over (i.e. applying the snapshots before I installed) and resetting the trust for my CAS system.

I have this on my primary and secondary servers as well.
Is upgrading to R2 recommended and will that solve this issue ?
When googling to this issue i found that there is a solution for this: remove MP, upgrade Client, install MP.
