SCCM 2012 - Standalone media

Hi All,
I need some advice on the standalone media which is given to an engineer.
For example if i have media image with v1 and i got v2 now which i need to create and give it to engineers. Is there any option i can expire v1 so tat no engineers can use it further. Please advice
Regards, Pratap

  • Huge wim files with sccm 2012 capture media.

So I'm making new image of two new HP models. 850/840 G2.
    Win 7 and Win8.1
Image will have only newest win updates
    Newest device drivers
Problem is that when I use capture media from SCCM 2012 R2, the WIM files are around 40-50Gb. And I'm a bit lost with this and don't know what to do.
I did all the things in same way like it was with G1 models. And then the WIM size was 9-11Gb.
I checked the inside of the wim file and there was hiberfil.sys files etc  that are 16Gb as the RAM on the machine is the same ammount. Ram ammount was same in the G1 models also and this didn't happen. Also winsxs folder was under windows and that was
    way over 10Gb.
Also one thing that is strange is that during capture, it captures 3 volumes. Disk should only have that 350MB and the windows installation.
Anyone have had this kind of experience?

    Hi
I don't know exactly how I should go with the virtual machine thing .
This is just a small part in my work that I do, so I have done it the most "fastest" way for my self.
Basically I just need 2-3 images with machine drivers and windows update installed.
If making image trough virtual machine would require me to create driver package for each model and then notice that x amount of devices still don't get installed and I would need to create installation package of those missing drivers. That is something I
    don't have time for...
Also when using driver package and installation for some special drivers from their won packages it feels that it takes long. And if i have my stuff already in the WIM file, things go smoothly much faster.
But if the virtualmachine trick is somehow superior, hit me with url. Thank you!
Strange thing is that some time ago all worked fine. And I was thinking that if someone has seen this kind of problem before.
It somewhow feels that it's capturing all the drives I have attached to machine. Volyme 3 of 3. And volyme is a disk? Not a partition?
I had usb stick (sccm capture media), machine harddriver with 350mb partition and the windows partition. Also external USB disk that it should save the WIM into.
Probaply next I will test the same machine with different harddrive...

  • SCCM 2012 Prestage media - and bootwim prestart commands?

    Hi,
I am using SCCM 2012 SP1 with MDT 2012 and will be using the Bootwim prestart commands.
Prestart Commands for Task Sequence Media in Configuration Manager
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj651034.aspx
    Specifically:
"Enable prestart command - Commaand line"
"Include files for prestart command - Source directory"
Windows PE Background - specify custom background image (UNC Path):"
Ok so far so good. Now we want to create prestart media - to give to our
hardware vendor. Am I going to have an issue that the prestage media might
include the bootwim plus its customizations - and can go out of date.
So lets save I give it to the vendor on Monday - all fine. I then make a
change to it on Tuesday - update something inside the boot wim.
How smart is this prestage media will it check the server for a later copy
and use that or am it going to be locked in from when I give it to them.
I also might want to put things like active directory lookups for machine
    validate as well.
So can somebody please clarify how the above would work.
    Thanks,
    Ward.

Normally when you run a Task Sequence and the assigned boot image is different from the boot media you initiated the Task Sequence from, it will download the correct boot image, stage it, and reboot.  By default though this creates an issue because
it assumes you booted from removable media and will prompt you to remove it before rebooting to continue.  There's a way to bypass this via the tsmbootstrap.ini file, but the default behavior is to prompt.
I have also seen issues with boot image concurrence between prestaged media images and the selected Task Sequence when the functionality was originally introduced in CM07 (http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2012/07/12/multi-site-dell-cfi-follow-up/) but I
have not heard of it being an issue recently.  It should be relatively easy to test; apply the prestaged media image to a test machine, change or update the assigned boot image for the Task Sequence, then see if it successfully pulls down and boots to
    the updated WinPE.
Another option is to have your prestart script be relatively generic and have it download the files from a server at run time (ex - download a .CAB from a web server, expand the contents, and launch a script from those downloaded files). That way all you
have to do to update functionality is update the .CAB file, not the prestaged media or boot image.

  • Configure SUSDB_log.ldf Autogrowth Size on SCCM 2012 Standalone Primary Site Server

I have configured the rest of my .ldf log files for SCCM use according to best practices by SCCM MVPs, but I have not read anywhere that states how I should go about configuring the auto growth for the WSUS database log file (susdb_log.ldf) itself.
If someone can offer some guidance here, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks

    Thanks Torsten.
So after I run the first full sync, I can just use that value to set the initial size like you stated and then use some other value to set the growth rate? There is only about 1,000 clients in this organization and I want to get this WSUS db log file configured
prior to installing the SCCM primary site on the server. I have used Kent Agerlund's instructions on pre-configuring the SCCM 2012 R2 database and everything looks good there, but just wanted to know how to go about NOT using that 2TB default limit on the
SUSDB_log. What is a good rule of thumb to use to determine the file growth value? Like 2x or 3x the initial value size?
    Thanks

  • SCCM 2012 Capture media CD destroying HDDs

Hey guys,We're having an odd issue down here in our office. To give a little background we have been using SCCM for about over a year now with little to no issues. This might be about the 6th image we have made via this same capture media CD so we definitely aren't new to the process.Every time we attempt to use the Capture Media CD it will get through sysprep just fine but when the computer eventually reboots as part of it's capture process it throws us the wonderful 'Non System Disk or Disk Error" message. Popping in Partition Wizard reveals that the MBR of the drive is being corrupted and every option to format the drive or otherwise perform maintenance is greyed out.We haven't been able to find anything online about this and have tried multiple different systems & different HDDs. . Has anyone experienced any similar issues?

  • SCCM 2012 OSD with Multiple Drive letters using StandAlone Media

Hey guys I have a client who is required to partition their Windows 8.1 installation in three different partitions:
    C:(OS Partition)
    d:(SQLData Partition)
    E:(Client Data Partition)
    G:(CD-ROM)
I Already know that I should not use multiple drives for OSD but this is the requirement I have been given...
When I deploy my TS through PxE or USB Bootable Media all the drives are labeled correctly... C,D and E but if I Use Standalone USB Media then I end up with C, E and F and G as CDRom. I know that WinPE assigns a drive letter to the usb stick usually d: but
not always so how can I set the USB Standalone media to act the same way as PxE and Usb Boot Media? is there a way to have PE set the USB drive to drives latter in the alphabet? s, t or w?
    Please help

Hey Joyce thanks for the response but I am not talking about the fact that the drives are labeled differently in PE I am stating that once the imaging process is complete the drive letters are not the same when doing a deployment through PxE or USB Bootable
media... When using Full standalone USB media to deploy the exact same TS the drive letter assignment is not consistent so to be as clear as I can I will explain again...
When doing a deployment from PxE, USB BOOT Media or USB BOOT Media attached to a VM, all the drives end up correct at the end of the deployment so C: is the OS drive  D: is the Data Drive and E: is the Maps Drive (Keep in mind that if I do a usb
bootable media deployment and leave the USB in the computer I have the same issue as the standalone media)
But if I run the deployment from a STANDALONE USB Media then everything runs as it should but when I enter windows and look at my drive letter assignment the C: is the OS drive the D: drive is the USB the E: drive is the Data drive and G: is the Maps
    Drive...
Which means to me that when windows is assigning drive letters it is assigning the USB Drive as D and not something less intrusive like y: or o:
So the question is: How can I have the drive letters assigned properly when using full standalone media So that my deployments are consistent when deploying through PxE, Usb Boot Media and USB Standalone media? Did no one ever test this out? and if so is
this what I can expect from SCCM 2012R2 For consistency to not be available across all deployment methods?

  • Sccm 2012 R2 Standalone TaskSequence + MDT UDI applications, coud it work

hello, I'm trying to deploy Windows 8.1 to tablets, using a standalone media on a usb drive.
We don't have the pxe usb/network adapter or dockings.
I'm using sccm 2012R2 Cu3 with MDT 2013 integration, and the UDI wizard.
During the task sequence I'm able to connect to a wireless network and then join our domain.
Now I'd like to have some software choosen in the "Install Programs" page of the UDI, so that they wont be included in the media (no more space, 8gb usb key only) and won't be installed everytime.
I'm getting those errors in the smsts.log:
    cannot connect with winhttp; 80072ee5
    Will retry in 4 second(s)
    cannot connect with winhttp; 80072ee5
    Will retry in 11 second(s)
Failed to request policy assignments, hr=0x80072ee5
    Policy download failed, hr=0x80072ee5
Process completed with exit code 2147954405
Failed to run the action: Install Application from UDI.
Unknown error (Error: 80072EE5; Source: Unknown)
Is there a chance that it could work? or having a standalone media just mean that it won't check a all on the network for package or policy?
Any suggestions, way to workaround to implement this?
    thanks a lot!

no I know I use it already for other model actually.
just to make sure there is no misunderstanding for others who may want to achieve the same thing it won't work in this scenario. This is from the link you provided=)
"When the computer starts for the first time after the prestaged media has been applied, the computer starts Windows PE and connects
to a management point to locate the task sequence that completes the operating system deployment process."
so again for me at this point the tablets (surface pro 1, venue pro 11 and latitude 10) don't have network connectivity,
that come later after the image is installed (but still in the task sequence)
    thanks for your answer however!
still hoping for another solution/workaround, thanks.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - Capture Media - sysprep remains executing

  • SCCM 2012 R2 cannot create Task Sequence Media

    Hello,
We have installed SCCM 2012 SP1 and have trouble creating a Task Sequence Media, the error we are getting is "Media creation failed with error code -2147217406"
We have reviewed the CreateTSMedia.log and found the following errors:
    * Failed to create media generator (0x80041002)
    * CreateTsMedia failed with error 0x80041002, details = ''
    * Unable to delete all files in temp directory. Giving up. (0x80070091)
    * CreateMedia.exe finished with error code 80041002
We are trying to create the Task Sequence Media using the Capture option to use with the Media Type USB or CD / DVD, none works.
We tried to create the Task Sequence Media from a PC with Windows 7 and installed SCCM console and also we tried from the SCCM server, but it has not worked.
We have made sure to use the administrative account that SCCM installation was performed, but we have not been able to resolve this incident.
    I will appreciate your advices.
    Thanks in advance.

  • SCCM 2007 standalone USB is prompting for media

Hello.  I have been creating standalone media on USB for a while.  This week I needed to create new standalone media with an updated image and 3 new packages.
I modified the same TSs in SCCM 2007 I always use to create the standalone media on USB.  The USB sticks are 16 gig and I diskpart like usual.
After creating the new standalone media on USB, I tested the sticks.
It deploys the image and drivers successfully but when it is attempting to install the packages (applications) I get a popup asking me to insert the media for the install.
I checked the USB stick and the packages are all there and I can launch the packages successfully.
I also advertised the TSs and can deploy via advertisement.
Any ideas?  I have to get these done as soon as possible.  WIll appreciate the help.
    Charles

Did you find the source of the problem? I am running into the same issue but it appears to only occur on certain brands or models of USB stick.
Also, unplugging the stick, plugging it back in, and clicking OK on the media prompt allows the process to continue.

  • Remote reset PIN on Mobile Devices - SCCM 2012 R2 w/ Intune

    Hi Forum
I am wondering if this is possible. Can I reset a PIN on a phone (WP, Android, iOS, etc), mainly concerned with WP8 and WP8.1.
I know this is possible through Intune standalone. However, Windows Intune is connected to SCCM 2012 R2 as the authority. Can i reset the PIN remotely on these phones? Does this have anything to do with the Intune Extensions, if so which one?
    Thanks in advance
    NN

Quick thanks first for all the replies.
WP does not support this feature neither with Intune Standalone nor with ConfigMgr.
    Only iOS & Android support.
    http://scug.be/blogs/nico Twitter: @nsienaert
Is this right, I thought an update got released for this in Intune Standalone?
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/windowsintune/archive/2014/04/28/availability-of-update-to-windows-intune-for-windows-phone-8-1-and-samsung-knox-standard.aspx?loc=zYFCz&prod=zWIz&tech=zOttechz&prog=zOTprogz&type=zBLz&media=zOTmediaz&country=zUSz
    First paragraph states:
"...and the ability to remotely lock or reset a device’s PIN."
Although looking in my console at laptops, EAS managed devices and Intune Managed devices the option does seem to be greyed out???
The process seems to be the same as I thought for ConfigMgr, so thanks for clarifying.
    Thanks

  • Create Task Sequence Standalone media help required

    Hi,
    Environment is SCCM 2012 SP1
I have a Win 8.1 & Win7 OS image captured from reference machine and able to deploy to machines without any issues using TS.
Now I am trying to create Standalone media in USB/DVD.
    1. I am able to create .iso file when I select 8.5GB DVD type in the wizard. What steps should I perform to burn it to DVD? The normal burn from .iso does not work as it does not make it bootable.
    2. When I tried to create a USB standalone media it errors out indicating Not enough space on disk. The USB is 16GB of size and the Createmedia.exe formats the USB to FAT32. Hence, the install image does not get copied.
    Please advice.

  • SCCM 2012 - Configuration

    Hi All,
I need some clarity on the below points please
    1. I have created standalone media, can i content in the standalone media in to another USB and build using the same. Will it work?
    2. Is that adding boundary groups for each distribution is mandatory or the sccm client will detect the near distribution points
    3. Some KB fixes which is available online is not getting reflected in all software updates? some are missing in the All software update list?
    4. I am trying to create a subscription for software updates/infrastructure alerts but when i open the subscription wizard, it shows only the existing alerts which i can configure for alerts? is this normal?
    Regards, Pratap

  • OSD standalone media: query database for computername

    Hi,
    Please see
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a35812d5-7a3e-4e53-b38b-4ff3f9b1c4e1/osd-apply-prestaged-media-in-ts2-reboot-then-run-ts1-automatically?forum=configmanagersecurity
    for more backgroundinfo.
What I want to do is, in a standalone task sequence which applies prestaged media, query and apply the SCCM2012 sql database for a computername.
    I've found
this great guide for MDT, anybody has got exprience with that on SCCM 2012?

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 - OS Deployment - hash could not be matched for the downloded content

I've got a newly deployed SCCM 2012 SP1 running on Windows Server 2012. The W2K12 runs as vm on ESX 5.1. I'm having very odd issues with OS deployment. The TS keeps failing when processing SCCM client installation - it downloads the package but then it fails
straight away with the 80091007 - hash values couldn't be matched error - some extract from smsts.log attached below. It's very consistent, it happens every time - it downloads and applies the image fine straight after that it bombs out.
What is very interesting is that it works perfectly fine when I deploy vms (on the same or different host) - the issue seems to be be only affecting physical machines (laptops desktops). This might suggest some network issues (vSwitch with Cisco switches) but
the config on the switch is very simple and this shouldn't be the case.
I had a few virtualised SCCM 2007 installations (ESX 5 and 4) and it always worked with no problems.
I tried to recreate the package (changing source directory), turn binary differential replication on and off, copy the content of the package to the dist point or not copy. Push client installation (or other package deployments) work fine
When I tried to deploy with no download - sometimes it works but most of the time I'd get the files/folder corrupt error (can't remember the No)
This is starting to drive me crazy - There are some significant changes in the way SCCM 2012 is validating package integrity (like Content Lib folder) but the consistency of this problem is just very odd.
    Anyone has any clues?
    thanks

is this the only indication of a problem in your smsts.log file ? did you apply the
    authenticode hotfix or have you
downloaded the SP1 media after that hotfix was applied ?
