SCCM 2012- Wake on LAN

Has anyone tested Wake On LAN with SCCM 2012? I am getting error 0x80072741 in wolcmgr.log. Any help is much appreciated.
Divya

Hi, here is the snipped from the wolcmgr.log. Also another update, now during our testing we can see that if the machine is in Sleep mode, they wake up at the time specified. However they don't wake up when they are in Hibernate mode.
Even though the machines are waking up, but we still get the same errors in WOLCMGR.LOG. Not sure if we can ignore them or if they are something to worry about.
Any help will be highly appreciated!

  • SCCM 2012 - Very slow LAN software deployments

Earlier this week I created a package containing office 2013 SP1 ready to deploy to our workstations
I have been installing the office 2013 package onto desktop computers on our LAN and it is being very slow on downloading the application from the DP.
The DP is on the same as the workstation and it appears to utilize less than 1mb of the 100mb local NIC card. I have also checked and the boundary config is set as a fast link. Has anyone come across this before?
When looking at the NIC on the DP server it is using 2% of its 1GB connection. I have also checked the distribution log and it is downloading from the local DP.

Thanks for your quick response :) That seems to be exactly the setting.
One question if you know the answer, If you define a boundary as having a slow link what happens to the traffic? Does this no longer do this slowly using BITS.
I can see this would be why this setting was set as we also have slow link sites without a DP

  • SCCM 2012R2 multihomed client, Wake on LAN unreliable

We are seeing a strange problem related to Wake on LAN on client computers with both wired and wireless network interfaces.
All clients are initially imported with the wired MAC address, booted via PXE and image installed. The client then boots up and contacts SCCM. End users then typically use them via wireless and one would expect SCCM to "learn" both the IP/MAC configuration
of the wired and the wireless interfaces. (These networks use separate vlans and IP subnets)
SCCM and our routers are configured for directed broadcasts.
Network sniffing has confirmed that for these clients, SCCM attempts to send the broadcast to the wifi subnets instead of the wired subnets. All directed broadcasts sent to wired subnets have been confirmed to arrive as expected and those clients wake up
    as expected.
However, over time the wired network interface appears to be dropped by SCCM, causing Wake on LAN to fail because it obviously won't work using the IP/MAC information for the wireless adapter. When checking the client properties in Configuration Manager,
some clients are incorrectly listed without a wired network interface.
How should we proceed to troubleshoot this issue? Any pointers/ideas/suggestions are welcome.

"one would expect SCCM to "learn" both the IP/MAC configuration of the wired and the wireless interfaces."
    Why would one "expect" this?
ConfigMgr uses heartbeat discovery to discover IP address information. What is your heartbeat discovery interval set to?

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Power Management - Machine Wake Up Time is Randomly Offset

We have recently migrated to SCCM 2012 R2 from SCCM 2007 R3. Since moving the clients to the SCCM 2012 R2 server I have noticed that the Power Management Wakeup Timer is not working as it used to.
Power Management is configured as follows:
    Peak Hours: 5:30AM - 6:00PM
    Wakeup Time: 5:30AM
Previously, all power management configured clients would wakeup at around 5:30AM, some a minute or so before, some a minute or so after. Now they are on SCCM 2012 R2, I'm finding that they are waking up anywhere from 5:30AM to 7:30AM. At first
I thought this was due to the Deadline Randomization settings, so I set "Disable deadline randomization" to Yes on the Computer Agent. However, the machines are still waking up at random times. To ensure the change was propagated properly,
I changed the Wakeup Time by 1 min to 5:29AM and updated policy on a few test machines, but no joy.
Does anyone know why this is occurring?
    Thanks
    Kate

    Hi,
This setting determines whether the client uses an activation delay of up to two hours to install required software updates and required applications when the deadline is reached. By default, the activation delay is disabled.
If required software updates and required applications must install without delay when the configured deadline is reached, select
    Yes for this setting.
For more infomation, please review the link below:

  • Re-image computer with no user interaction at all - SCCM 2012

I have searched many posts and havent found a clear solution for my question.
Basically, I have OSD task sequence ready to go on my SCCM 2012 R2. It is fine to run it as "Available".
If I deploy the OSD through Software Center as "Required" and "ASAP", then I login the client, the client will run OSD task sequence sometime after about 30Min-1 hour later, not sure. And there will be no user interaction needed. However
this means I need remotely log into each computer to let OSD happen.
If I deploy the same TASK Sequence as "Required" and "ASAP" through "PXE", it will first ask PXE Password(Which I set in DP->PXE Panel), then I need hit "Next" again to start the assigned OSD, which means I need
physically go to each computer to do this. (EDIT: If needed, I can remove PXE password and add VB scripts in other Task Sequence, however I want to know if I still need press NEXT to start the OSD).
The clients are not AMT enabled but Lan Wake up enabled and also can be set to LAN WAKE UP Enabled with boot from LAN. I can wake up/shutdown the whole collection with command if needed.
Is there a way that I can Re-image one collection of Computers without any interaction on client side?
The other question is how long to wait for OSD when it is set to "ASAP"?
    RockyOZ

Guess I just answered question myself. With PXE Password removed, the OSD runs without user interaction. Thanks. I will add the password in task sequences instead.

  • What best way to turn on all computers remotely using sccm 2012 sp 1

what best way to turn on all computers remotely using sccm  2012
and what the difference  between wake on lan and out of band service point role

Hey!!! I am a 1E engineer and MVP... we started the power management movement with our very first software product, created around 12 or so years ago, called 1E WakeUp. The complete solution which manages power on (integrated with SCCM, or stand alone if
you are not an SCCM shop) and power off (under a tightly controlled process) is called
    NightWatchman
    Here is a
recent blog post I authored that was the last in a series documenting the entire wake-up process including how it integrates with SCCM or stood up standalone. It contains links to those earlier posts that explain our entire technology, so you will likely
want to read all of them in order for a full understanding of our technology. It works incredibly well, is the most mature solution in the industry, and is extremely simple to install with minimal resources.

  • Wake on LAN using get-cmdevice ?

Is it possible trigger the WoL feature that is used by SCCM to deploy apps and updates using a Powershell command?
    I'm thinking of something like:
    get-cmdevice -devicename xyz | do-CMWakeOnLAN
We have WoL functioning but sometimes it is useful to be able to wake up a PC without deploying anything.
    Any thoughts?
    Neil
PS I know there are 3rd party WoL tools but they don't use the information that SCCM has collected about a device

You may not need to leverage ConfigMgr for this.

  • Satellite Z930-14F - cannot install Win 8.1 from SCCM 2012 R2 environment

    Dear all,
Sattelite Z series laptops cannot install OS (win 8.1) from our SCCM 2012 R2 environment.
Either no installation is starting, or pxe boot aborted error is showed.
The environment is used to successfully install OS (win 8.1) on different other vendor computers (dell) and virtual machines (hyper-v and vmware).
I've tried both UEFI and CMS boot options and tried to switch off the secure boot. Please advice.
Also, i've read about the "SCCM installation package for Toshiba". Will it help in my situation or is it just driver packages for SCCM?
    Best Regards, Evgeny.

I guess you are speaking about this Toshiba package:
    http://www.toshiba.eu/services/on-demand/business-computing/sdp120gs-v/
I dont have much experience using such SCCM drive package but it definitely compatible with the Toshiba business notebooks. The Satellite / Portege Z930 belong to the business range and I think the package should be compatible.
This package seems to be for all IT administrators who manage devices on the corporate network with SCCM 2012 R2. Toshiba offers with the new Toshiba SCCM package a solution to integrate other notebook into an existing IT infrastructure quickly and smoothly and all Toshiba Driver and application packages and a demonstration task sequence are integrated.
However, it seems that you could get more details about this package directly from Toshiba [email protected]
By the way: The Win 8.1 installation requires the UEFI mode (in case the UEFI BIOS is available). But booting from another, external source requires the disabled secure boot option.
So maybe you should use the UEFI mode but should disable the secure boot option in order to boot from LAN.

  • SCCM 2012 monitoring - Site Status - Reporting Services Point - Status Critical

    Hi all,
I have noticed that the Site Status under Monitoring shows Reporting services point as in Critical state though we do not see anything wrong with SCCM as such (at least we haven't been reported any problems thus far). There is nothing in the event viewer
on SQL Server. Just wanted to know how to resolve this issue. Could you help?
When I try to open status messages for Reporting Services (for any days) it does not return anything as if there are no status messages for this role. Also, could you let me know the log file locations/names for Reporting services point?

Here it is... I have replaced server names with a dummy name.

  • Client Push Not Working SCCM 2012

I am new to SCCM and have a test rig SCCM 2012 for testing, problem is the client push fails every time and I am at a loss to explain why. I have tried removing and reading the DP, FSP and MP roles (Both these are on the SCCM core server) I have run IIS
reset, removed all AD configured Boundaries and Groups in favor of IP range but I keep getting the same errors. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated... Below is this mornings logs highlighting the failure.

Does you MP/DP use HTTP or HTTPS? I recommend to start with HTTP and when you have successfully installed a few clients, you can switch to HTTPS if desired. HTTPS based communication requires more steps e.g. client certificates.
Have you extended AD schema and do you see objects in \System\System Management container in AD?
Also, you might have DNS name resolution problem or the firewall is blocking the traffic from the client to MP.
The client is having troubles to successfully talk with MP:

What will be the IPV6 values to configure boundary?

Depending on how the clients connect use the IPv6 prefix of their 6to4, Teredo, and/ or IP-HTTPS tunnel. Just keep in mind that it could become a long list...

  • Support for Internet based client Management - SCCM 2012

    Hi There,
My Company wants to go for Internet based client Management in SCCM 2012 SP1 R2 and here is the design I'm proposing. I'm getting a bit confused at one point and need suggestion....
Everything would work on HTTPS ( PKI Certificate based )... LAN and Internet.
1 Primary ( with non-client facing roles installed ) on LAN with two site systems.
    - One Site System configured for INTRANET support only with MP, DP and SUP -> To support LAN users ( Allow
    Intranet-only connections )
    - One Site System configured for INTERNET support only with MP, DP and SUP -> To support Internet users ( Allow
        Internet-only connections )
The INTERNET facing site system is in DMZ network connected to parent Primary via Firewall.
We want internet clients to talk to ONLY DMZ SCCM Site System and no connection to corporate LAN. We cannot open any ports for internet based clients to LAN.
If this is the supported scenario, then why we need to put the Internet FQDN in the Primary server Site System property. This server would not be available to internet. It should only be my DMZ SCCM server client should connect for MP, DP and SUP and only
this DMZ server should be accessible to client over internet.
Also, what least ports should be opened between :
    - Parent Primary and its internet facing site system kept in DMZ
    - DMZ Site system and internet clients.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
    Sam

The FQDN has only to be specified on the Internet facing site system. You can leave this field blank on the primary site Server.
    Ports to Open:
    Internet --> DMZ Site Server:
    TCP Port 443
TCP Port 80, if Fallback Status Point is installed
DMZ Site Server --> Primary Site:
    TCP 135, 49152-65535
    TCP 445
    TCP 135, 24158 (fixed with
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb219447(v=vs.85).aspx )
    TCP 80, 443
If you have some other roles installed, please consult this page:

  • SCCM 2012 - 802.1x authentication for zero touch installation

    Hi guys,
I'm setting up a demo environment for sccm 2012. Our customer has the requirement to enforce 802.1x authentication (username & password without certificates) on the network. So I need a 802.1x integration into the WinPE image, that clients can access
the install vlan instead of the guest vlan during the zero touch Windows 7 OS install process.
    What I did before:
     - mount the SCCM modified WinPE image (boot.XXX99999.wim)
     - integration of the KB972831 hotfix into the WinPE
     - creation of a lan profile and eap profile file
     - copy both files into the mounted image
     - creation of new wim file
I've booted the boot wim via a usb stick to test the 802.1x integration with the following commands:
      net start dot3svc
=> The Wired AutoConfig service was started successfully
netsh lan add profile filename="X:\8021x\Local Area Connection.xml " interface="Local Area Connection"
=> The profile was added successfully on the interface Local Area connection
netsh lan set eapuserdata filename=x:\8021x\Wired-WinPE-UserData-PEAP-MSChapv2.xml allusers=yes interface="Local Area Connection"
=> Error setting user data for interface Local Area Connection. The operation is not supported.
Actually I can't post web links here. If the files are needed I can send them per mail.
What can I do to solve this problem?
    Thanks!
    Regards
    Bastian

    Hi!
Did you gave a look at this website: http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/lakey81/archive/2011/07/06/configuring-802-1x-network-authentication-for-winpe-3-0-and-configmgr-deployments.aspx
I've followed those steps and it worked as a charm, even for WinPE 4.0.
If you have questions let me know.
    Cheers.

  • Recommended SCCM 2012 R2 Minimum Hardware Requirements For Small Environment?

We plan to deploy SCCM 2012 R2  CU1 and SQL 2012 SP2 for the following purposes and want to use the minimum hardware to do the job reliably:
Keep reports on hardware and software inventory and monitor performance and events on clients and servers.
Deploy operating systems with MDT integration.
Install and uninstall applications on clients on the local LAN (as replacement for GPO software installation during reboots) as well remote laptops on the Internet (we do not have Direct Access do not have Direct Access and do not want to depend on remote
laptops needing to being logged into VPN to reach them).
Install Windows Updates and third party patches and updates (Adobe/Java updates etc.) on local LAN as well as to remote laptops on the Internet.
We only have about 500 clients.  80 percent are on the local LAN all in one building and the rest are laptops for people working on the road and at home who only sporadically connect to VPN.
Can we do it all on one server or will we need a separate server for LAN clients and a different server in the DMZ to reach remote clients?
Will we need separate disks for OS, SCCM and SQL with such a small environment or can it be all on a single physical disk or VM VHD?
Is 8GB RAM, 1 CPU and 500GB disk space enough for this (assuming 50 GB WSUS database and similar amount is OS deployment space for MDT)?

It will work, no doubt. My point was that if you want fast and responsive system, focus on the disk speed. You're good to go with single server, all in the same box.
I understand that it will "work" because I just installed SCCM 2012R2 and SQL 2012 CU10 in a lab in a VM using a single VHD and it is working fine with zero clients.
Should it still work with reasonable performance on a fast hard drive (10-15K drive or SSD) with 500 clients without having to break it out into separate dedicated disks for OS, page file, SCCM, SQL and logs?
