SCCM 2012SP1 and XenDesktop MCS implementation
Are there any guides or articles out there on the best practice set up of SCCM 2012 to work with a MCS implementation of XenDesktop? In particular guidance on updating the master image and catalog procedure so that updates are implemented on this and not
the rest of the VDI's
Cheers
Hi Gerry,
Great to see you here!
Citrix Zendesktop (don't need SCCM client)
My current production (at work) SCCM environment SCCM 2007 SP2 R3, I used to setup SCCM boundaries to only discovered Default-First-Site-Name and since we have Citrix Zendesktop span-up for a handful test users, Citrix guy don't want to apply/install SCCM
client on Zendesktop.
So, I did remove Default-First-Site-Name from the boundaries and started adding individual IP subnet to our boundaries. It happen a lot where we’ve missed IP addresses (the one that we’re not aware of it) either new VLAN for servers or workstations by the
network team.
What's the best way to handle this situation? Any recommend on the Citrix Zendesktop? I will be happy to pass it along to our Citrix guy! Thanks. Reza

Hi All - I've re-posted this as I put it in the wrong thread initially under 2007.
I've configured a cross forest SCCM scenario, with all the SCCM config in one Forest and a single Windows XP SP3 desktop in the other. There is a trust between both Forests/2-way external but I haven't added Forests/Domain to SCCM to enable searching
etc. I deployed the agent manually in the external Forest using a mapped drive and ccmsetup /mp:........ this all works fine.
After installation, after the client is approved, when I click on the client in the SCCM console and try to initiate any of the "right-click" features, I just get a stack of access denied errors back "0x80070005". I've tried rebuilding
WMI, re-installing the client to no avail. Im thinking that its related to the cross forest config but I see no provision for setting up external credentials for the other forest - am I right in thinking that the only account that needs to be configured is
the "Network Access Account" that the agent uses to make network connections (the rest being run under the guise of the "Local System" account) if so - this is already done too.
I'm not seeing any access denied entries on the XP desktop and I've been through the DCOM config and local policy to make adjustments/slacken off the permissions...still no dice.
Am I chasing my tail with this? can I manage a client from the console that actually sits outside of the Forest where the SCCM installation is actually installed?
The installation is pretty much inline with scenario 1 from the following blog:

is the original thread. You shouldn't cross post -- you should wait for a mod to move the thread as now we have multiple people answering the same question without the benefit of seeing what others have answered.
As mentioned there, this really has nothing to do with ConfigMgr and stems from the use of right-click tools.

Hi,
I see same question has been asked in the past with older versions of SCCM, BMC and Opalis...but would like to know if there are any specific benefits or advancements or even higher feasibility of implementing below, using Orchestrator
1) Data load: Load HW/SW Inventory from SCCM into BMC Remedy System. Is it even possible to load Asset Intelligence data so that both systems can correlate common data
2) Create a flow which connects both BMC remedy & SCCM using Orchestrator
a) End user to raise a request in BMC remedy system
b) Shoots an email to Assset Mgmt & Mgr etc for approvals
c) Record their approvals back (thru email or over webisite/url)
d) If approved to create an instruction (deployment) in SCCM for that system
e) Retrieve the status codes received by SCCM, if successful then short mails to user & service desk
f) Modify BMC Remedy Asset Mgmt for that software to reduce availability by one count
g) Close the ticket
or any other simpler connectors available out there ?
VasuHi,
You can try IP for BMC Remedy from Kelverion’s website:

again done this.
what i have done so far:
Run the media from mounted iso and locally
run as local admin, domain admin,
ran the setupdl.exe on my computer and copied the files to the sccm server and pointing the install to the download directory
but i still get the same error.
we have tried to run it from another server but the application again failed to run, do you think this could be an environmental issue. -
Training and Event Management Implementation based on competencies
Dear Friends,
My client is going ahead for Training and Event Managment Implementation. They have a basic requirement to start with and that is :
1) They have done competency mapping for all its employees and they want that the competencies of each employees(along with the skill levels) to be recorded in the system and that has to be the starting point of using Training and Event Management module.
2) They want, if the competencies can flow based on Job/ Position.
3) Some identifier to the competencies, whther it has flowed from Appraisal or any other sources in the Final Training Needs.
Kindly provide me help, as to how I will be able to achieve that and in what Infotypes the data pertaining to Training and Event Managment will be stored.
If u all can kindly share with me the User Manuals and Configuration Docs of Training and Event Management, it will be of great help.
Thank you all.Hi,
Competencies can be stored as qualifications in PD and then by activation of PD PA intergration can be seen from pa30 infotype 24.
Qualifications can be stored against a Job/Position and are called as the Requirements. They are seen as a separate Tab and to which ever position the person is linked to the corresponding qualifications of the position will appear in the requirements tab.
You can maintain the proficiency and a note along with the qualification when assigned to a person.
Also Appraisals can have qualifications in the template rather than criteria and criteria groups.
Also after training is completed during the follow up we can create an appraisal and transfer the qualifications or simply transfer the qualifications to the employee.

Logical Database design and physical database implementation
Hi
I am an ORACLE DBA basically and we started a proactive server dashboard portal ,which basically reports all aspects of our infrastructure (Dev,QA and Prod, performance, capacity, number of servers,No of CPU,decomissioned date,OS level,Database patch level) etc..
This has to be done entirely by our DBA team as this is not externally funded project. Now i was asked to do " Logical Database design and physical Database
implementation"
Even though i know roughly what's that mean(like designing whole set of tables in star schema format) ,i have never done this before.
In my mind i have a rough set of tables that can be used but again i think there is lot of engineering involved in this area to make sure that we do it properly.
I am wondering you guys might be having some recommendations for me in the sense where to start?are there any documents online , are there any book on this topic? Are there any documents which explain this phenomena with examples ?
Also exactly what is the difference between logical database design vs physical database implementation
Thanks and RegardsLogical database design is the process of taking a business or conceptual data model (often described in the form of an Entity-Relationship Diagram) and transforming that into a logical representation of that model using the specific semantics of the database management system. In the case of an RDBMS such as Oracle, this representation would be in the form of definitions of relational tables, primary, unique and foreign key constraints and the appropriate column data types supported by the RDBMS.
Physical database implementation is the process of taking the logical database design and translating that into the actual DDL statements supported by the target RDBMS that will create the database objects in a target RDBMS database. This will generally include specific physical implementation details such as the specification of tablespaces, use of specialised indexing (bitmap, clustered etc), partitioning, compression and anything else that relates to how data will actually be physically stored inside the database.
It sounds like you already have a physical implementation? If so, you can reverse engineer this implementation into a design tool such as SQL Developer Data Modeller. This will create a logical design by examining the contents of the Oracle data dictionary. Even if you don't have an existing database, Data Modeller is a good tool to use as a starting point for logical and even conceptual/business models.
If you want to read anything about logical design, "An Introduction to Database Systems" by Date is always a good starting point. "Database Systems - A Practical Approach to Design, Implementation and Management" by Connolly & Begg is also an excellent reference. -

-aReading more closely, I notice now that you said "right-click tools". That explains it as those truly have nothing to do with ConfigMgr. Essentially, what all right-click tools are are individual scripts run on your local system that directly connect
to the remote system to perform an action. The console initiates these scripts but that's it. Thus, the credentials of the user logged into the console are used to launch those scripts and the problem here is that the user you are running the console
as does not have permissions to remotely connect to that remote system.
As mentioned, this has nothing to do with ConfigMgr though because ConfigMgr never ever connects to remote clients -- call client agent communication is initiated by the client.
Thus, the right-click tools, while sometimes/often useful, should not be confused with native ConfigMgr functionality.

SCCM 2007 and Active Directory - On-boarding and Off-Boarding Process
Currently, when a user resigns from our company, we rebuild their computer immediately and provide to another user.
From a best practice perspective, should we delete the computername from AD and then rebuild and join to the Domain? We also have SCCM 2007 in place. Are there other best practices for SCCM 2007 and AD that we should be following for on-boarding
and off-boarding users? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :-)With respect to AD, it will be better to reset the account rather than deleting it. This way the SID is retained and all permissions (for DNS records etc) and AD group memberships will be retained. AD group memberships will be more significant, depending
on whether it is used for SCCM collection definition rules
In SCCM, if the record is not deleted, it will be identified as a known computer and OSD advertisement can be pushed on the client. Ideally task sequence should use same name as the SCCM resource record for naming the newly built computer. In case AD/SCCM
objects are deleted, duplicate records may get created depending on the timing of client registration and AD system discovery cycle. If SCCM client gets installed and registered before next AD system discovery cycle, there shouldn't be any issues.
But if AD discovery cycle runs before client registration, two records will show up in SCCM console and one will be obselete, which has to be deleted manually. This issue can be resolved by adjusting the frequency and schedule of AD system discovery cycle.
My suggestion will be to reset the computer account in AD and retain the SCCM resource in case of machine rebuild scenarios. In case of task sequence not retaining the computer name, custom steps can be added in TS to set variables as required. -
Difference between EDN-DB and EDN-JMS implementation
Experts,
Looking for a difference between EDN-DB and EDN-JMS implementation. We have EDN implementation going on, where multiple source systems will be publishing business events. Events can be published using SOA Suite or JMS Bridge from AQ and MQ. In this scenario which implementation approach is suited better ?Oracle Apps Adapter can be used for many other products other than E-Business Suite (JD Edwards E1, OTM, and others). The apps adapter was mainly used in ERP systems and was strong when you needed have added functionality other than just polling a db for a status / calling a stored procedure... It could connect out to other business services, xml gateways and so-on.
From a technical aspect / development perspective I always thought of that the Oracle Apps Adapter simplifies the development but, may is not flexible. The App Adapter's strength is the services that are difficult to integrate with (business services, xml gateway). If you need to hook in to these types of services, use the APPS adapter. (Again like it is named the "Apps Adapter" its for interacting w/ other applications to enable real-time processing / functionality.
That being said the dbAdapter can be very powerful but, like it is named is database focused (to poll some table to know when to kick off other logic and enable real-time functionality through database interaction.
Looking at the Oracle 12C Roadmap I had heard that there is more planned for the Oracle Apps Adapter moving forward, especially as Anuj said in the "Financial Apps" side of the isle at Oracle. Who knows what is real and what isn't though =]
Hope this helps!

Advice on how to better delegate SCCM installation and roles between VMs
Hi guys!
So my company is finally deciding to go with SCCM 2012 and we're setting up our first environment. In the end when all is configured SCCM will be supporting 1000-1500 client computers - PCs and MACs. The scenario and plan is the following: They have bought
a Dell PowerEdge T320 Server. The idea is that I will set up a working virtual environment on this server and later this summer a new, more powerful server will be bought (Better CPU, more RAM etc) and I will import the existing virtual environment into the
new server. The T320 comes with 16GB of RAM, and Xeon E5-2430L 2.00Ghz processor. With this in mind, how would you guys recommend I delegate resources between VMs and how many VMs would you suggest I create or if one is enough.
I was wondering if I would need to create a separate VM for a SQL installation/delegate roles between VMs so they don't become overburdened, for example when users start working with reports and queries, etc. How much RAM would you delegate for the VM(s)
on T320 and then on the actual SCCM server?
I would really love to hear any advice and suggestions :)
Thank you so much!!
SteveYou won't accomplish much with those disks at all, you have to have a way faster disks (10K / 15K SAS) for optimal performance. So you could consider this first setup as a POC like t.rich said. If you're planning to move the VM to the production as it is,
you should very carefully consider the disk configuration you're building. I'd built the new server from scratch and add the ConfigMgr from backup, a bit cleaner way to do it. For the new hardware, you need fast disks and enough RAM.
Johan has an excelent post on disk configuration for ConfigMgr: http://www.deploymentresearch.com/Research/tabid/62/EntryId/115/Sizing-your-ConfigMgr-2012-R2-Primary-Site-Server.aspx -
SCCM 2012sp1 Cumlative Updates Supercedence
If I install CU5 for SCCM 2012sp1, will it contain all the previous updates, or is it necessary to install the previous cumulative update bundles as well?
Cumulative updates are as the name states = cumulative. So CU5 includes everything that CU1-CU4 include. So no, you do not need to deploy any previous ones.

Security properties of jks and jceks keystore implementations
Hi,
could somebody point me to a description of the security properties of the jks and jceks keystore implementations, which allow me to judge how secure they are?
Thanks in advance!
Bastihttp://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/security/crypto/CryptoSpec.html#KeyManagement
Both are only as strong as the password used to protect them. Apparently JKS is relatively weak, JCEKS is probably equivalent to a PKCS12 as both can use 3DES PBE.
If you want good private key storage you need to move to hardware tokens and the PKCS11 interface.
