SCCM / Citrix Provisioned Desktops

I followed some advice I received in a thread a couple of weeks ago regarding Citrix PVS and SCCM.  Before sealing and deploying the image I installed the client, allowed it to process policy / update, stopped the service, deleted certificates and deleted
the smscfg.ini. Today the servers booted from the image but I only see one active server per image.
Checking the smscfg.ini, all servers have the same unique identifier.  Any ideas on how this happened?

Hi,
Have you tried to mount the image, then check if the smscfg.ini file and certificates still exist in the image?

I verified all of that.  The issue I'm seeing now is that they appear to be booting up with the correct UID (verified against the 2012 console), however policy updates, etc, don't show under the device record in SCCM.  For example, it's processing
policy but the device record in 2012 shows the last policy request as from 10/2.
Randomly checking logs, I found these errors in the ccmnotificationagent.log:
Failed to receive buffer from server with err=0x80090304.
BgbAgent 10/16/2014 7:55:09 AM
5700 (0x1644)
Failed to receive expected response from server with error 80090304.
BgbAgent 10/16/2014 7:55:09 AM
5700 (0x1644)
Also, if i do a machine policy update on one of the systems in question, no log files update with new timestamps.  The service is started, virus definitions are installing, but client operations seem to be completely failing otherwise.

  • Provisioned desktops / multiple users

We have provisioned desktops for several users. This is done by Citrix Provisioning Services.
We have a golden master (read only) which gets booted by X machines.
Everyone who logs into this machines with their very own domain account is allowed to use the installed CC products.
In CS6, this was no problem. Installing a pre-packed CS6 with the master AdobeID and everything was fine. Will this work in CC, too?

    Hi SupVog,
We currently do not recommend using CC apps in a streamed virtualized environment. Each time an end user is presented with a streamed virtualized instance, from our perspective it looks like a new machine. What this means is that a user may be able to login, active and use that app for that instance but if the user closes that instance and comes back and logs into a new instance, that will count as new machine towards their activation count. After doing this more than three times, they are locked out of using the app since they have hit their activation limit. We are looking at ways of overcoming this limitation but don't have  a date on when we will be able to support it.
Please refer the FAQ for more information: http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/faq.html .
For activation queries please refer the kb: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html .

App-V:  A Configuration Template for Deploying to Stateless RDS Clients on Citrix Published Desktops with Citrix UPM for Profile Management
Just posted this to the wiki:

I would not recommend this and keep the package cache and the client on the same non-persistent drive and enable the Shared Content Store. If you separate the cache and the App-V client they could get out of sync and strange behaviour can occur.
You can use a temporary local profile with Citrix UPM or UE-V and specify what to roam/save.
You can use the Shared Content Store so packages will stream over the network. When the user logs on there is a publishing phase where shortcuts etc are created for the user, this will take some time.
Are you using the App-V full infrastructure?
Are you using a boot disk, partition or PXE in combination with PVS?

  • EULA reapears after streaming the disk to another machine with Citrix Provisioning Services

We have a Citrix Xenapp 6.5 farm and we use Citrix provisioning services to stream 1 disk to multiple servers in the farm.
We use Adobe acrobat professional X and the EULA pop-ups keeps appearing for each user. During the installation of the master image the ACCEPT_EULA property is set to "yes"
The only way to get rid of these popups is to unistall acrobat and re-install it.
Is this the only way to fix this or is there a quicker method, script or registry entry or whatever to fix this issue?

How are you setting the property? Is it command line or via the Wizard?
If CMD, then get the Admin Guide and double check your syntax.
If Wizard, verify the property is set by inspecting the UI and the installer tables with the Direct Editor.
    Post back.

  • Identity Based Firewall doesn't work using Citrix Published Desktop environment

    Hi!
We are using the newest release of AD Agent (1.0.0.32.1, built 598). The ASA Firewalls 5520 are having the software release 8.4(3)8 installed.
    The problem:
When somebody tries to connect thru the Identity based firewalls from a citrix published desktop environment (PDI) the connection is not possible. Checking the ip-of-user mapping on the firewalls (show user-identity ip-of-user USERNAME) mostly doesn't show the mapping of the USERNAME and the PDI the user is logged in. The user-of-ip mapping of the PDIs IP-address shows mostly other users, which then are used to authenticate the acces thru the firewalls.
What is interesting, that on the AD Agent using "adacfg.exe cache list | find /i "USERNAME"" i can't see the PDIs IP-address neither because it is mapped to another user.
    Questions:
Is Citrix Published Desktop environment supported to connect thru Identity based Firewalls?
Anybody knows how AD Agent, Domain Controllers and Firewalls are working together?
On the firewalls with "show user-identity ad-agent we see, the following:
    Authentication Port: udp/1645
    Accounting Port: udp/1646
    ASA Listening Port: udp/3799
Why Cisco does use 1645 and 1646 and not 1812 and 1813?
The Listening Port is used for what purpose?
Remark: we tried the AD Agent modes full- download and on-demand with the same effect.
    Thanks for your replies
    Walter

There are no Firewalls between the AD-Agent and the DCs. We checked the names using nslookup. Everything ok. I asked our AD responsibles to doublecheck the firewall settings and the logs on the DCs and on the AD Agent. As soon i get an answer I will let you know.
What I saw on the firewalls is, that just one (the first) DC is communicating with the firewalls. Is this normal?

    Hi techs,
I am desktop support and am supposted to learn the basics of SCCM.  I know some functions like finding the collection and adding a computer, and how to check the status of a collection, etc.  Im looking for something like a quick reference site.

No, it doesn't require your MPs and DPs to be running HTTPS. Also, you seem to be right about the certificates required for Out of Band Management. For more information see the following links:

  • Accessing Citrix/Remote Desktop

Remote access to my work involves connecting to a Citrix server and then accessing my work PC via Remote Desktop. The first time I did this at home using my personal laptop I had no issues.  The Citrix web client installed and I got to my work machine just fine. It has not worked again since then.   I still get to the Citrix box fine, but time out when signing into my work PC.     I have tried the following: 1. Turned off anti-virus software2. Tried a different laptop from home3. Using a network cable to connect directly to the ATT modem instead of wireless4. Took my personal laptop to work and tried to remote in using the state's wireless network.  This worked just fine. Any thoughts on things to try?   Are there settings for ATT internet that could affect this? Jeff

    Hello
With some corporate networks and applications, there might need to be a VPN access set up, that's how it works with me. I have to use a VPN server software first, then I'm able to access all my corporate systems. That might be an issue with your service, and the reason why it works fine when connecting to a work network. I'd check with your company's IT helpdesk first, you can also contact our team via a private message by clicking here and our team will be happy to help with whatever we can on our end.

  • Microsoft Citrix-Remote Desktop Commands

I'm having trouble successfully operating via remote desktop.
I'm connecting through citrix to my desktop at work (windows based with microsoft office).
Do I need to install the Mac Microsoft software first or will I ever be able to successfully work remotely?

I connect with Citrix to work as well.
If the Citrix connection is successful, you can run MSTSC.EXE from your citrix session to remote to a windows desktop inside your company. I do this all the time.
If you are are not able to Citrix in, try and make sure you have the newest clients from citrix.com. There are 2: A web only client meant for the XenApp web interface, and the standard online plugin which uses Dazzle to configure your connection. (Similar to the old Program Neighborhood).
Remote Desktop =/= Citrix. They are based on similar technologies, but the implementation is very different.
EDIT: Link to Mac Citrix Plugins
    http://www.citrix.com/English/ss/downloads/details.asp?downloadId=2303485&produc tId=186&c1=sot2755&c2=ost12726
Top Download is full client w/ Dazzle. Bottom download is browser plugin only. (Your Citrix (now called XenApp) setup will need to have a web interface for the bottom download to work).
All you need to connect to Citrix is one of the above 2 programs. Once connected, you are in a Windows environment and can use the windows remote desktop (MSTSC.EXE) to connect to your work computer.

  • Adobe Captivate and Virtual Desktop (citrix)

I have captivate 5 and I'm using it through a virtual desktop in citrix. The problem I have it when I try to start a recording, the application stops responding and closes without leaving any event. The captivate 5 it´s supported for citrix virtual desktop?

    Hi there,
It will be helpful if you can give us the following information
    1. Has this scenario worked for you when using Captivate 4?
    2. What are you trying to Capture? You can let us know the type of application, type of capture setting, and when does it close the application.
    3. Apart from recording, are other workflows in Cp 5 working as expected?

  • Load testing Citrix Desktop Client applications

I need to simulate multiple simultaneous users of an application using the citrix client desktop for Great Plains 10.
We are moving from local desktop client installs of GP to citrix clients in a VM environment, and there is a concern about performance for the users.
How can I setup and perform such a simulation?

I should also note that GP is a Microsoft company.  A Microsoft Partner can get you set up with a test center that can emulate your test needs outside of your production systems. This may be the best approach and the most cost-efficient.  They
can usually set up a full virtualization of your network environment and run tests that will tell you what to expect.
Consider that GP scales well with Citrix.  GP should easily follow the rules of resources demand for users as "superusers'  Those rules are dependent on the hardware and can be gotten from Citrix.  You should start by doing the arithmetic.
If it missies by more than negative 20% you will need to research with the hardware vendor on how to set up the analysis more accurately.
I have done these exercises for mid-sized platforms.  They can be don in two to three days of research and math.  Once you are in the ball park you can still look at a test.  At least the test will not be telling you that your hardware is
less than 50% of the n3eeded capacity.  You can discover that with match and research.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • PVS 7.x, Citrix UPM, XA 6.5, & AppV 5.0 SP2 HF4 for Stateless Shared Desktop

Note:  I have read and followed this tech net recommendation closely as the basis for my technical design (I have also read many other articles, Citrix recommendations for UPM, Microsoft Performance Guide, etc):
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/25318.app-v-a-configuration-template-for-deploying-to-stateless-rds-clients-on-citrix-published-desktops-with-citrix-upm-for-profile-management.aspx
I have a few questions and I'd be interested in community thought:
    1.  In this design they are placing the PackageInstallationRoot on a persistent locally attached drive, which they then have to spend time wiping at every startup.  This can be incredibly time consuming to do all the icalcs commands if the AppV
Package Cache has a lot of apps (~10 minutes for my environment with 6 apps).  Is there a flaw with placing this within Non-Persistent space instead (i.e. RAM Write-Cache with Disk backing in PVS 7.6).  Rationale:
    A) It is a much quicker wipe than the linked approach.  PackageInstallationRoot gets completely wiped instantly upon PVS Target reboot.
    B) I could place this on my persistent volume and do the lengthy cleanup on startup, but this is the same SAN-attached persistent volume that PVS Ram Cache with Disk Overflow uses so I am not sure I see the benefit.  Perhaps there is a bit more overhead
to run to PackageInstallationRoot through PVS WriteCache overhead instead of direct filesystem call to SAN Volume, but that is the only thing I can think of.
    2.  Direction talks about the exclusion to AppData\Microsoft\AppV, but for environments that use Folder Redirection for AppData I don't believe this is possible?  I'm guessing they are using UPM for AppData and LocalAppData.  I have implemented
all other exclusions (LocalAppData, HKCU Registry, etc) except for AppData and don't see any problems.
    3.  Author states apps are available for users immediately, but there has to be overhead for the very first user for each app after every reboot in order to re-populate PackageInstallationRoot and Re-Publish the app.  The only way I can think to
reduce this burden a bit would be to either A) Cache (Add-AppV) application into the master image (not ideal for us), or B) have a script that caches (Add-AppV) application whenever a PVS Target boots.  This would just leave the user having to publish,
which appears to be quicker based on my testing.
    Thanks

  • Office 2013 Prof Plus -Licensing on Citrix

    Hi Experts,
I am looking forward to deploy Office 2013 PP, Project and Visio though Citrix XenApp 7.5. The servers are windows 2012 R2.
I am looking forwards to understand the latest licnesing model for Citrix/Remote desktop/Terminal server for Office 2013 PP.
How does volume licnesing work for Citrix/Terminal servers.
    There are two requirements .
    1. User accessing from office : In office users will have Windows 7 desktops , with office 2013 PP installed on it. Licensed with KMS. Some office users will be accessing OFFICE 2013 PP Apps published through Citrix xenapp 7.5. say for example
the number of such users is 100. As user is already licensed (office on windows 7), do we need a seperate license if these 100 users access the xenapp published version of office? Office 2013 pp will be published on 4 xenapp servers.
    2. Users accessing from Home: When those 100 users are at home, user will login to vpn, open the browser and access office pp apps throught citrix. The office will run on the 4 xenapp servers in datacenter. In this case the
client machine is user's own home desktop. Does a user licenses for office makes us complaint with licensing in this case.
Please could you clarify my licensing doubts for above 2 scenarios.
    Regards,
    Abhishek

    Hi,
To get the answer to the licensing questions, since it may be related to your local policy, I suggest you ask the local Volume Licensing Service Center:

  • Display issues T540p, Windows 8.1, Intel, Citrix????

    Hi Everybody
We have numerous users who has the T540p laptop as their mobile office. When they are in-house they use the docking station that has an external monitor connected.
However, when they start a citrix application, the application Is all screwed up. See posted pic. The application window freezes and the mouse curser bounces around the edge!
    Link to picture
The application also shows the citrix desktop, as if the application window was moved off screen.
I’ve tried all the know solutions from Citrix, that concerns multi-monitor setup – no luck.
I have narrowed it down to Windows 8.1 with or without update 1, and the newest Intel driver for the HD4600 graphics card.
The problem does not show with Windows 7 or Windows 8 with the same version of intel drivers.
All tests have been done on clean installations of windows with “Intel Iris And HD Graphics Driver” version 15.33.22.3621 (10.18.10.3621)
Have anyone else experienced this issue.

    Michael,
I have the same problem to but on a Windows 7 machine, with two monitors.
While launching Citrix Fulld desktop(FD) the window spans across two monitors every time it is launched.
Once the title bar is double clicked , FD settles on the secondary monitor
User launches a published app,on the primary monitor.
Then at random, FD spans across two monitors (user is unable to see the title bar to drag and rest)
Now has to Shift+F2 and then do the adjustments again. ( this happens quite randomly)
Could you tell me what was your fix to see if this can be of any help?

  • Adobe Reader X - cannot view local PDF's fully or web PDF's at all

I have downloaded Adober Reader X onto my Windows XP IE v8 PC, yet I cannot fully open any PDF documents. On local PDF's I can see part of them, scroll up and down them, and print them though. When looking at local docs I can also see the desktop behind where the toolbars should be; no toolbars are visible.
For PDF's through IE, when I try and download the PDF I just get a black screen where the PDF should be.
I have tried uninstalling (reader and acrobat), re-installing, clearing temporary internet files, all to no avail. Any ideas as to what the problem (and solution!) might be?

I have adobe reader 11.0.09 installed on Windows 2008 R2 configured as Terminal server with Citrix XenApp 6.5 installed. The Server is hosting on average 14 - 15 simultaneous sessions. Adobe reader is installed on the server. The server is provisioned via Citrix Provisioning server 6.x
    The problem:
The User with regular credentials opens two PDF files with writable fields at the same time. The user accesses the environment via remote access with Citrix receiver installed on his / her local desktop. The user fills up the text field on the first form and copies the text from the fields of first form to the appropriate fields of the second form. After few minutes adobe reader crashes.
After I was investigating the issue, I found that at certain point the application crashes and throws a record into the ProcMon list
    More details from ProcMon
After the crash of the application, the highlighted section in the snapshot above disappears and the application at this time is dead.
This issue happens only when the PDF forms are opened with Adobe reader on Windows 2008R2. I have tested Adobe Reader 11.0.7 and 11.0.8 all of them are crashing the same way.
    Help is more than welcome.
    Thank You
