SCCM Client
Hi
I have an SCCM environment where top root is parent primary, below is primary and below is primary or secondary site. my Query on SCCM client is -
will the client of parent primary be installed on all clients and it will discover site code approprite site in hierarchy as per network boundaries
or
Specific site client needs to be installed.
We are suppling client at the time of imaging so in Task sequence a single client needs to be supplied. or diifernt packages .
Thanks.
Regards Sushain KApoor
Hi,
Is this a SCCM 2007 or SCCM 2012 environment?

Sccm client v4 wont install and install client v5 - SCCM 2012 R2
Hi, I am coming to the end of a SCCM 2012 R2 client deployment. I have come across 2 machines (so far)that have the SCCM 2007 (v4) client installed, and although the task is set to uninstall from the server the v5 client will not installed. iI have been
using this an as template:
http://eskonr.com/2010/11/sccm-client-installation-troubleshooting-steps-check-list/
I have ran the install seperatelty from the server (boxed ticked - Uninstall existing Config Manager client) - No Install
The ccmsetup folder is created - c$\Windows\ccmsetup, but only has 3 files, no logs folder
Other machines on site has the v5 client
Checked ping from client to server and vice versa (no firewall enabled)
Boundaries/Schema/DNS - ok
Checked all local event logs.
i know you can run the local uninstall command, but as the network is vast i would like to fix to come from the server, rather than having to do this on the client.
Any tips would be great going forward.
SCCM 2012 R2 - Windows 7 Enterprise SP1Hi,
I ensured the account used for the install was in the local admins group.
From the ccm.log on the server, i got these erros, been googling but nothing yet:

Also, is there a way to run a report on which machines dont have the sccm client/install issues?
Thanks -
Hello everyone,
I’m having issues with workgroup computers, not domain systems when I request a certificate.
It’s extremely weird. It has something to do with Windows 7 and Windows 2008 machines. In 2003 server I can request a certificate manually with certutil and it see the certificate template. I copy over the exact command
on windows 7 and it can’t see the certificate template.
I have the following configuration:
CA Enterprise
I have created the SCCM Client Certificate
I have created the SCCM Web Server Certificate
I have created the SCCM Distribution Point Certificate
GPO is configured
SCCM 2012 R2 CU2 configured to do HTTP and HTTPS
Installed SCCM Client Certificate
Installed SCCM Web Server Certificate
Installed Distribution Point Certificate
Deployed to a domain computer good on PKI
Workgroup Computers:
I’m having issues with deploying certificates
Windows 7 –
(ERROR) not successful
Windows Server 2008 R2 –
(ERROR) not successful
Windows Server 2003 - successful
Windows XP – successful
How I’m getting the certs for the clients is by utilizing the following scripts from this URL.
http://www.ithierarchy.com/ITH/node/48
I did find a couple of errors in the code, but if it’s working on my Server 2003, then it should work on the others. Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 seem to have the same issue. The error I’m getting is the following:
Command line requesting the cert ---- CertReq –new –f testcomputer.home.pvt.inf c:\client\testcomputer.home.pvt.req
Error --- Template not found.
SCCMClientCertificate (this is my template)Just to give an update on what’s happening with this. I found out this format is unsupported by MS with Windows Vista and newer OS’s.
Instead you must utilize two other additional roles on the CA to have this work. The caviate is, I’m down to the testing and it’s not working as in the document. I have MS Support
working with me to resolve this issue since it was written by MSFT.
http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2010/05/25/enabling-cep-and-ces-for-enrolling-non-domain-joined-computers-for-certificates.aspx
and use this doc for similar workgroup computers for rolling out certs. This was written for RT devices, however, it should work once I get to that point.

SCCM Task Sequence no longer installs SCCM Client
I am using SCCM 2007 R3 with SP2 and MDT 2010
My task sequences were all working fine until one of the other SCCM admins "Synced all sites" by transferring the site settings of one site to all the other sites. How this broke OSD I don't know.
At this point the best I can tell is that the SCCM client is not being installed in the Task Sequence and so when it reboots to the installed OS there is no longer any communication and the task sequence fails with an error of "Windows could not configure
one or more system components. To install Windows, restart the computer and then restart the installation.
I have run out of ideas to fix it so I am asking for the collective knowledge of the Interwebs for help. Please post the contents of C:\Windows\ccmsetup\logs\ccmsetup.log in order for us to help you further

SCCM Client on Site Server from Different Site within Same Domain
Our desktop team has a site to manage desktops.
We have a site to manage servers.
Do you see any issue with the Server site managing the Desktop teams servers as their clients?
In other words, desktop wants us to patch and manage their SCCM servers with our site. Placing the SCCM client on their servers pointing to our site.
Thanks for any gotchas! Are you talking about different (standalone primary ConfigMgr) sites (e.g. site abc is used for managing desktops and xyz for servers)? And now you want to assign the ConfigMgr clients (on servers used in site xyz) to site abc? This does work, but I am not
sure if it is supported.

Need help with a simple Rename/Join Domain/Install SCCM Client Task Sequence
Good morning everyone,
I need to create a very simple task sequence that will run an .exe that we have created that renames the computer based on a prefix-serialnumber...then restarts, adds it to our domain, restarts, and then installs the SCCM client.
1) run rename program
2) join to domain
3) install sccm client
Can someone help me with the steps that will be required for this?
Thank you very much!
**note, these will not be formatted/have an OS installation ran on it with this task sequence. The situation is that we are receiving 400+ custom configured laptops, and we're going to have to rename/join/install sccm on each...trying to simplify
this
any recommendations are greatly appreciated!Narcoticoo : Which boot image am i supposed to be using to insure that it boots into Standard Windows, NOT WinPE? I have a standard x86 package / boot image i've been using. If it boots up with this, it goes into WinPE (correct me if I'm wrong,
for this seems to be what happens each time it boots off the boot image...it does not go into windows standard/full)
When I go into properties of the one i'm using, and take the check off of "Use a boot image", where it will not boot to WinPE, it will not even show up in my list of available task sequences for
1) when I PXE boot to try the task sequence, or
2) when I try to make stand-alone media for this task sequence as you have suggested
When I run the standalone media, the only log files I find are the following with errors:

Send state message to SCCM after uninstall of SCCM client
Hi Everyone,
I have a batch file to uninstall the client from PC's, how would I could I send a state message back to SCCM to say the uninstall was successful? Asking because the console doesn't come back with success info, just waiting, and accepted on the program.....as
the client is uninstalled etc.
Currently running a simple ccmsetup.exe /uninstall as below, thanks for any help in advance.
I know there's a Vb script to force any existing messages to be sent, but as the CCM WMI will not exist, there would be nothing to send, right?
And I have to do this for a POF......Is this even possible??I could write to a log file with the name of the computer that just uninstalled, but really wanted to use a report.....or if there's another way to uninstall client and get the info in SCCM then
please let me know, it's been a very long few days..... cheers :)

many thanksDon't you think this is a bit of a silly question? The client is what sends state messages therefore what would you expect to "send" the message that the client was removed? Seems about as effective as putting the address on the inside of an
envelope and expecting the post office to just know where to send the mail.

FROM v_FullCollectionMembership
GerkinHi,
I recommend you use Report Builder to create the report.
Using Matrix and LookupSet to merge the table.
=join(LookupSet(Fields!Name.Value, Fields!Name.Value, Fields!CollName.Value, "DataSet_name"), ",")

Internet based management of SCCM clients and management points ?
We have an SCCM backend infrastructure which is used to manage what is in affect multiple external organizations over the internet. Currently each SCCM client is managed by the primary server directly over the internet.
Am I right that we could place a configmgr management point on the internal networks and for the clients to talk to this server when connected to the company network instead of all clients getting patched across the internet connection ? Meaning that
just the MP would communicate with our backend infrastructure ?So your internal clients are now connecting over the internet to the local MP? How does this setup look like exactly? How were the clients installed (parameters)?

Its showing client is already registered.. but its not showing in SCCM console.
Any idea -
Hello,
I have tried running the Client Push wizard for a single computer or a pilot collection of 8 computers, the result is always
the same - no SCCM client is installed on any computer.
The computers are running 32-bit Windows XP SP2.
The Windows firewall is disabled.
The client push installation account is setup and have domain admin and local admin privileges. Client Push automatic method
is not enabled.
The domain is AD WIndows 2000.
The SCCM server is running Windows 2003 R2 SP2 64bit Standard.
The AD schema has been extended.
MP, and SLP are installed and published. (MP is published in DNS as well.)
FSP is installed.
MP, SLP and FSP are running on the same server.
SQL 2005 server is running locally.
System management container is created and all rights and permissions delegated.
With the Push installation account I can access C$ share on the client computer from the SCCM server.
RPC, Remote registry, WMI services are running on the client machines.
All prerequisites are installed from the client folder on SCCM server- latest BITS 2.5, Windows installer 3.1 and MSXML6.
All computers are in the same IP subnet which is listed in the boundaries.
Yet, the client is not being installed.
No CCMSetup folder is created on the client machines in Windows\System32 folder, so it is really difficult to troubleshoot
what the is the issue. I do not see anything helpful in the ccm.log on the server.
I have tried running the CCMSetup.exe manually on one of the workstations and that was successful and reported back to the
SCCM server / console.
What else I should check / try? I really want to push agents via the wizard.
Thank you,
PeterHi Wally,
I have changed 2 things:
1. Enabed automatic push installation (so I am not usign the wizard any more)
2. Changed the IP subnet to IP ranges in the site boundairies.
After runnignt the discovery, I was able to see some activities in the ccm.log. A ccmsetup folder is now created but the agent is still not instaleld. Here is the ccmsetup.log

Problem installing SCCM client in remote untrusted forest
Hi,
My configuration is :
My network is in two parts : intranet and a DMZ. In the DMZ there is another forest and domain. There is no trust between the forest in the DMZ and the internal network. I configured the remote forest in SCCM with a user account that has Domain Admin acces
in the DMZ forest/domain.
The primary site server is located in the internal part of my network. SQL is installed on a remote server. Management point, distribution point, Fallback Status Point roles are installed on the primary site server. SMS Provider is installed on the primary
site server.
In the DMZ part, I have a management point, distribution point installed on one server.
The forest discovery works fine. I can query AD in the remote forest (DMZ).
I have a problem installing the SCCM client on computers located in the remote forest with client push or with the command line.
CCMSETUP.EXE /MP:DMZ site server /DP:DMZ site server /FSP: primary site server SMSSITECODE:SIT
In CCMSetup.log I can see that the client try to communicate with my DMZ site server but it reverts to the management point and distribution point located in the internal part of the network. The installation fails and will try in 10 minutes.
Do anyone has seen this problem before? Am I missing something? Could it be a configuration issue?
Could you help me whit this please?
Thanks in advance for your time!
JacquesDoes the client installation work when you install the client manually on the untrusted domain client? What does the CCM.log say on the site server?
Have you double checked the firewall ports for the client push installation? The ports needed for the client push to work are as follows (from the site server to the client):
SMB - TCP 445
RPC Endpoint Mapper - TCP 135 / UDP 135
RPC Dynamic Ports
And to Management Point:
HTTP - TCP 80 (When using HTTP)
HTTPS - TCP 443 (When using HTTPS)
Also a quote from
TechNet: "In addition to the ports listed in the following table, client push installation also uses Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo request messages from the site server to the client computer to confirm whether the client
computer is available on the network. ICMP is sometimes referred to as TCP/IP ping commands. ICMP does not have a UDP or TCP protocol number, and so it is not listed in the following table. However, any intervening network devices, such as firewalls, must
permit ICMP traffic for client push installation to succeed." -
SCCM client uninstall from the SCCM console
Hi All,
Would it be possible to uninstall the SCCM client already installed on a workstation via the SCCM console?
Or the only method would be via ccmsetup /uninstall ?
Thanks.Hi,
You cannot uninstall the client from the console "out of the box". But if you modify the console you can add the feature. You can get the feature from the right click tools - http://www.myitforum.com/myITWiki/SCCMTools.ashx or from the Config Mgr Client Center - http://sourceforge.net/projects/smsclictr

SCCM Client entry in SCCM console for new VM with same hostname
HI,
I have Hyper V server with several VM's running with server OS. Recently I have stopped 2 VM's with OS windows server 2008 & 2012 & recreated new VM's with same hostnames & IP addresses. Problem is I am unable to install SCCM client on New VM
as old enrty lies in SCCM consle with client status Active. I tried to uninstall the client from console, But its showing "can not ping".
So is it ok to simply delete this entry from console so new entry will come in front?Hi,
You can delete the object in the SCCM Admin Console, you can also install the client manually and then they will register again creating a new object with the same name.

SCCM Client PC's failing to download/install Windows Updates
Hi,
Last month I noticed that our client PC's, shortly after they had built (using SCCM Task Sequence) were downloading and installing Windows Updates using the usual Windows Update process. What I mean is, I had Software Centre showing Updates as installing,
but also had the Windows Update agent installing various updates. It was also showing in the start menu (Yellow icon saying Shut down and install updates). Now my understanding is, that that shouldn't of been happening, and only SCCM/Software Centre should
be showing Windows Updates as installing.
I noticed that we had some GPO's set for Windows Updates, which I have disabled, as I believed these were not necessary. Also, I like to control my Updates via SCCM Software Update groups after testing them, and not just allow clients to grab any updates
that are required and approved.
My problem now is, none of the clients are getting/installing any updates. I'm getting the following errors in the WUAHandler.log:
Unable to read existing WUA resultant policy. Error = 0x80070002.

So, I've checked in:
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windowa\WindowsUpdate\ & HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
and neither have a WSUS server set. I'm assuming this is correct?
RSOP shows all policies in \\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update as
DISABLED
GPEDIT shows \\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update\Specify intranet Microsoft update service location as
Enabled and as our server (https://XXX.XXX:8531) - I'm assuming this is what SCCM client sets as if I changed this setting and then restart the setting comes back. If it was a Group Policy conflict then I
would expect to see it in RSOP.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm puzzled as to what to look at next. Is my first assumption of having 0 group policies configured for WSUS correct? Am I also correct in assuming Windows Updates shouldn't show in Control panel, or at the Start > Shutdown
prompt, and only show in Software Centre?
Thanks, and sorry for the long winded post!Hey Jason,
Thanks for replying and explaining the WUA stuff. That made sense to be but my mind was being clouded by the issue all of the PC's/Clients onsite were, and are still getting. I cleared out the Group Policy cache as detailed on the link.
- Cleared C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Group Policy\History\*.*
- Ran a gpupdate /force
- Restarted PC
Issue still remains. Here is the output from the WUAHandler.log
