  • How can I browse third party software

I have spent the past hour trying to locate a listing of Third Part Software (Applications) presently on the Apple website.  In addition, there seems to be "Community" whereby this can be addressed or at least nothing containing Software or Applications or any other similar name.  I DO NOT want to have to activate iTunes as this would seem to indicate that I wanted to buy something but since all I am presently doing is RESEARCH into what is capabilities, all i really need is software titles to see if I can discover anything that even close to what I am looking for and usually that is ONLY available on the developers website.
    Can this be done?  HOW?

    What do you mean?

If, by "Apple website" you mean the Mac App Store, AFAIK there is no such listing. However, you can go to
    <http://itunes.apple.com/us/genre/mac/id39?mt=12>
and then browse the apps on offer by category -- no need to 'activate' anything. Whether there is or not a way of querying exclusively for third-party software, I don't know.
If you're looking for a listing of all Mac OS X third-party software in the world, there is no such thing. But, if you're looking for sites which list Mac software, here are a few suggestions:
<http://www.macupdate.com/> (is, IMHO, the best of the lot)
<http://download.cnet.com/mac/> (used to be quite good as VersionTracker; but it's gone downhill since acquired by CNET/CBS)

  • How can i download third party Softwares from Support tab in Apple site?

    Hi,
Previously i downloaded third party softwares for mac like Browsers, Anti- Virus softwares from Apple site but now i can download only Apple products (softwares) not third party softwares from download links so any one please let me know the status.
    Thanks in advance,
    Suresh Balakrishnan.

Apple no longer hosts a website for 3rd party software.  Instead it runs the Mac App Store, which offers a good range of software.
If you are very keen for the apps and other things that are not in the Mac App Store, a good app to download is "Bodega" - which provides another app store experience.

  • How do i uninstall third party software

I just purchased a Mac Pro Restina this week end, so am new to Macs and Lion.....I have installed a 3rd party software that i would like to uninstall. How do I do this?

It's always best to use an uninstaller program, if one is provided. Check the developer's web site to see if there is an uninstaller.
If there is no uninstaller, then you can simply drag the application to the trash (as suggested). However, this will not remove other files associated with the application. These files usually are not a problem, but they do take up space.
Removing the various support files "by hand" can be done, but you need to dig around in your account's Library folder and it can be difficult to locate all the files. Also, deleting the wrong one can cause problems with other applications. Usually it's a minor inconvenience.
There are several applications that will try to hunt down all the associated files and allow you to delete them. I use AppZapper, for instance.

  • Third party software for transferring music content to new laptop

Help! My laptop died and I need help finding a third party software to copy my music files and transfer them from my Iphone to my new laptop's Itunes. Apple tech support helped me set up Itunes and transfer my purchased content, but I have 1,000 songs left that I don't want to reload. I found a link to Aniosoft through searching the web, but wondered if anyone who has been in my shoes might be able to lend advice on how best to handle this.
    Thanks, Sam

That I don't understand. As cheap as backup sources have become, there's really no excuse for not backing up. We probably get two or more posts a day...they all start the same way...my computer died...my life's work is on my phone...what can I do...I have no backup...
Think about that for a minute, why on earth would you store ANY valuable data on a phone, for crying out loud, & not have any backup?

  • Uninstall third party software

How do I uninstall third party software. I want to make sure all the application has been deleted.

In general, if the program has an uninstaller, use it. Third party modifications to OS X require an uninstaller to ensure those modifications are removed.
Otherwise, simply drag its icon from the Applications folder or wherever it happens to be installed (not the Dock) to the Trash. If its icon remains in the Dock, drag it a distance away from the Dock sufficient for it to disappear in a cloud of environmentally correct smoke.

  • What is the 3rd party software installation procedure

    Hi,
I am new to mac, so this may be a basic question. Third party software installation files usually have the dmg extension. What is the procedure to install apps that come in this form? I know that once I double click the dmg file, a virtual disk appears on the desktop. Can I copy the disk to the applications folder and delete the dmg file? Actually I have tried to do this and mac wont allow me to delete the dmg file beyond trash. What is the procedure that should be followed?
I also realize that my understanding of this disk image and disk utility concepts is weak. If you can, please explain these terms too.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Murali

What you've done is copied the .dmg to your applications folder, not the application itself.
a .dmg file is a 'disk image' which will mount a 'virtual disk' when double-clicked. A virtual disk behaves as though it was a real physical disk - even though it's all software.
In your case the virtual disk contains the Firefox application. The window you posted on Flickr is the contents of this virtual disk - with a useful (or confusing) diagram telling you to drag the application to your Applications folder.
Since you've put Firefox into your dock without first copying it to your Applications folder, OSX is running it from the virtual disk, not from your real disk.
When running 3rd party applications normally, you shouldn't need to have any virtual disks on your desktop.
What you need to do is this:
-Take Firefox out of your dock
-find the .dmg file you downloaded and double click it to mount the virtual disk
-drag the Firefox application (.app file) into your Applications folder
-drag the virtual disk to the trash to unmount it
-drag the .dmg file to the trash to delete it
-put Firefox back in your dock, from your Applications folder

I want to change the settings (brightness, contrast, gamma) for my internal cam on Macbook pro. I find having to but a third party software (iglasses, webcam settings) to control basic settings as unnecessary and exploitative. Does anyone have a solution?

It is not about payment of $19.95 (Igalsses) or $7.99(webcam settings). This is a very basic setting that should be available in the system settings. The automatic setting of the internal cam does not work great on low lighting as everyone is aware.
i am just amazed how users take in lying down and suggest solutions such as paying for a 3rd party paid app or improving the lighting in your room.

How much of a hurry are you in, and are you considering upgrading to Lion?
File Vault on Snow Leopard only encrypts home folders you select, and doesn't work well with Time Machine.
But Lion will have "full disk encryption" of local or external disks.  See File Vault 2 here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/whats-new/features.html

Have no BD-Burner - but I think I tried to Save as a DiskImage of full movie in BD-Quality

    Drag, drop, burn
    Drag, drop, burn
Toast 11 is the easiest and fastest way to burn your music, video, photo and data files on to CD, DVD or Blu-ray Disc™ for both Mac and PC. Archive up to 50 GB on high capacity Blu-ray Discs.
Indicates to me that a full BD-movie could be burned as this.

  • How to publish pages made in third party software

On my "homepage" websites I can upload html pages created by third party software (Adobe GoLive CS2 in my case) onto my .Mac sites.
I can't find anything in iWeb about publishing custom-made webpages in iWeb and/or on the iWeb. Is this possible with iWeb? Or do I have to stick with the old way of doing things (creating new .Mac sites online and uploading my custom pages there)?

Well, I half-answered my own question here. I went into my iDisk folder, went to Web, Sites, iWeb, then chose the site I had created and put my own custom-built html page there. It uploaded automatically and now I can access it via the web without a problem. It shows up the way it's supposed to look as well.
So basically I can load them up, but there's not a way for me to fully integrate them with the other iWeb pages on that site. My custom page does not appear in the iWeb application under the site name, I can't add web counters to it, etc...

  • How to configure Solaris that third-party software can use Netscape

    Hi,
I don't know if this is Solaris configuration issue.
I have Storage Foundation installed on Solaris 10 SPARC.
And I am using the VEA GUI application to manage storage. Then I intentionally made some activities that the Error window appears with the link.
This link point to the Veritas web page.
After clicking on this link the error appears:
"Error attempting to launch web browser.:
    netscape: not found"
Please tell me whether this issue is because it needs some changes in Solaris or maybe the Storage Foundation needs to be configured properly?
The internet connection works fine while executing the Netscape from CDE.
    Kind regards,
    Daniel

I don't think it has anything to do with the third-party software. When you click on a link or document, the OS tries to access it using the associated application. In your case, clicking on a hyperlink tries to load the default web browser which on your system is Netscape.
If say, you installed Firefox and configured it to be the default web browser then Solaris would launch it instead.
Try to manually launch Netscape and in the preferences, set it as the default web browser. See how you go with that.
