SCCM package distribution priority
I have in my environment SCCM 2012 SP1 installed.
I created a small testpackage to test upload of that package to all my distribution Points, and created it as a Medium priority package. I saw in the content status view in the console that it was put "In progress" in a queue, I knew
there were other packages uploading to all my DPs. To speed things up, I changed the priority to High after a day or so, because I wanted that package to be uploaded first to all my DPs. No other packages has High in my environment. From the link below, this
would not affect the queue in SCCM 2007, because once the package has been created, you can't change it to distribute faster.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/76626568-a372-4996-8131-3934ed903805/deploying-packages-and-sending-priority?forum=configmgrgeneral
My question is, is this still designed the same way in 2012? Or will SCCM 2012 notice the priority has changed, and pull it in front of the queue?
Freddy
I tried to create a package. When the create wizard is finished and I've clicked OK, then I can go into the Properties, and set HIGH as the priority.
Then I tried to distribute.
This is what I see in the PkgXferMgr.log on the site server:
Wrote 1048576 bytes to

It finished after a few minutes on the other DPs, I don't know if they had a lot to be uploaded at the time i started the distribution. But CM-DP-IRL-001 is clearly uploading other packages first before the one with HIGH as a priority, am I right?

App v package distribution issue to sccm 2012 DP
Hi,
We are migrating app-v 4.6 packages to sccm 2012 , after importing the packages when we update DP its not copying the dependent scripts inside the appv package to Dp and hence when application launches it fails to launch the vb script.
the script is made to run when shortcut is launched, but no vb script is copied to DP , but I have all files intact in source folder iyt just copies .sprj,xml,osd.
Please suggest how to make all the files in package abcd.001 to get copied in DP.
Does App-v package distribution is different from normal package.
Thanks
ShuaibOpen up the app in the sequencer, add the file to your scripts folder. If the script requires to be run elevated, you'll want to use the Deployment config file and use Global publishing....
If you don't need elevation you can use the User Config and won't need to publish globally.

SCCM 2012: Package distribution fails.
Hi,
We have a package distribution that fails.
What I did: redeploy, fails again and again. So I went to distribution point properties, tab content, then removed the package.
I waited for some time but if fails again (note it is only 2 MB in size but takes like 20 minutes)!
Below the logging of what went wrong. It seems as if it has issues cleaning up the package.
My question: what is causing this/how to avoid?

SCCM 2007 Distribution Point Share on a Failover Clustered File Server.
Is SCCM 2007 Distribution Point Share supported on a Windows 2008 R2 Failover Clustered File Server? I can get the packages to copy to the DP Share. But if I create them on a non clustered server it works fine. Are there any special settings that need top
be configured for clustered shares?
Thanks,
Steve
SteveHi Steve,
As far as I know this scenario is not supported scenario, In Windows Server® 2008 R2, the Cluster Shared Volumes feature included in failover clustering is only supported for
use with the Hyper-V server role.
The creation, reproduction, and storage of files on Cluster Shared Volumes that were not created for the Hyper-V role, including any user or application data stored under the
ClusterStorage folder of the system drive on every node, are not supported and may result in unpredictable behavior, including data corruption or data loss on these shared volumes. Only files that are created for the Hyper-V role can be stored on Cluster Shared
Volumes. An example of a file type that is created for the Hyper-V role is a Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) file.

Package distribution through a bit torrent network
make pacman a bittorrent client, and servers seeders.
would this be too complicated and not worth the trouble? im sure someone already thought of this.
if noone is seeding, servers would offload traffic from each other.
and if users choose to seed, well, we all know how fast movies download, right?
any downsides of this package distribution topology? after all, this was the reason bt got created in the first place.
im sure package signing would be a requirement..Xyne wrote:
karol wrote:What is the use case for this? Who needs it?
A full p2p package network would allow anyone to distribute binary packages on par with the official packages. Users wishing to share their own binary repos would no longer need (access to) a dedicated server. Basically, everything on the AUR would be available in binary format somewhere, which would be very useful for packages with long compilation times and/or many build dependencies. It would open the doors for architecture-optimized binary package distribution through some sort of tagging system. With time all architectures would be represented. It would also make the entire package distribution system far more robust, as everything currently relies on a single server to distribute new packages to the mirrors.
There are advantages to not providing packages via bittorrent. Primarily, I ofter release packages, close my laptop and go to work. So the signle server at leasts guarantees seeds. Many of the AUR packages would have ~0 seeds, making that not very useful.
Xyne wrote:It would also eliminated the arbitrariness of the current "Trusted Users" and even the devs, not all of whom are equally trusted. It would be easier for users to decide whom to trust on an individual basis, including others who are not officially associated with the distro. The current trust system would remain, but it would not be "imposed" to the same degree.
I already disable some Trusted User's keys in my pacman keyring.
Xyne wrote:Instead of ordering repos, it would be possible to order packagers (with a matching dependency graph), which would make it easier to do things such as pull in all the Haskell packages from arch-haskell without having to give arch-haskell priority over everything in the community repo.
Until I package something haskell as part of a rebuild and then someone at Arch Haskell decides to provide a glibc build. Crappy example I know, but there is a point there!
If bittorrent were to be used, I recommend it using web seeds with our mirrors and only used to spread the load for large downloads. -
Hi !
Internet Information Services (IIS) is getting Disabled automatically on all of our SCCM 2012 Distribution Points.
Please help and share configuration steps.
Thank you. This is not anything ConfigMgr is doing. The cases I've seen similar to this have had a GPO responsible for this behavior from which the site systems needed to be excluded.

Is there a "SCCM Package For Windows 7 (64-bit)" for an X220?
Hey all,
i found the "SCCM package for Windows 7 (32-bit) and (64-bit)" for ThinkPad X230s here...
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS034785
...but is there one for the X220s as well? I only see ones for M82, M92p M92, and X230
any help would much appreciated. That sounds great - actually based on our early research that is exactly the route we've decided to go.
I don't see a document linked in your post, would you mind re-linking?
Specifically, we'll want to include drivers for lots of x210, x220 and x230 varieties - and there are a lot of them that I don't have available for testing - they are many miles away.
Appreciate the help!
EDIT - I found the document linked in another thread and we've used it to pull in all the drivers we require for the 4 models in our environment. thanks!

Query for package distribution settings
Is there a query to see what the "Package distribution Settings" are set to? For example how could I find out which packages are set to "Download
only content changes to the distribution point" or "Manually copy the content in this package to the distribution point"
without manually checking each individual package?Hi,
The PkgFlags stored in decimal format. You need to convert to hexadecimal format, then the last two digits of PkgFlags will show as below:
Automatically download content when packages are assigned to distribution points: 0x......00
Download only content changes to the distribution point: 0x......10
Manually copy the content in this package to the distribution point: 0x......20
When we check "Distribute the content for this package to prefered distribution points", the first digit of PkgFlags will be 0x4.......
Hope the data above (I observed from database) could help you.

Joyce Li

Package Distribution Failed on Specific DP
Package distribution failed on a specific DP and when i try to remvoe and add mulltiple time, it doesn't shows up any progress.
Still the DP seems to be not added in the package DP, Is that any bug?
Below is the pkgXferMgr.logThanks for your reply,
I have checked the site server is local admin on remote DP and also i didn't modify any permission of SMS_DP$ folder, it creates automatically. I able to access that folder outside the server too.
Checked the Antivirus exclusion is also there.
Last week the package distribution works fine, but today i failed to distribute package.
The strange thing is, when i try to add the DP to the package it doesn't shows me in progress tab. I tried to add the DP to the package multiple times it doesn't shows me in the report it is added.
I really don't understand this why, In 2007 SW/Distribution is simple. -
SCCM 2012 Application and Packages Distribution
Hi Giants,
Its Great to work with SCCM 2012 with plenty of New Features.
Let me explain my requirement.
1. Office 2010 Professional Plus SP1 with 15 Language Packs included
-----MSP 1. Without Access
-----MSP 2. With Access
-----MSP 3. With Access and Retain Old Version Access
Now My Requirement.
1. We want to deploy Office with Access to "Collection 1" and Office without Access to "Collection 2"
2. If i create Office 2010 as a Application, i can create two deployment type with different command line, but i can select the deployment type while creating Deployment. [ There should of been a drop down option like Packages. :-( ]
3. If i create Office 2010 as a Package, i cannot use the detection method or requirement rules and even i cannot publish it to Application Catalog.
Now the Scenario.
1. I can create 2 application with same source with different command line and deploy to different collection, but if i update the content in the source package, i need to give a update content to both the applications.
2. Its not a big problem to give update content to both packages, but the problem is for 1st application if i give update content, sccm will find the difference and sent the changes to DP, and when i give update content to 2nd application the same process
happens and changes are transferred to DP.
Now the Problem
1. the effort involved in transferring the changes to DP becomes twice, which means 1 GB of changes will make 2 GB transfer to DP and when adding to Content Library, SCCM is smart enough to save 1 GB.
2. Is there any where we can avoid multiple transfer to DP which will eat the bandwidth.
3. Or is there a way to define which deployment type to used in Deployment.
4. Or is there a way to publish Packages to Application Catalog.
Thanks in Advance.Hi Torsten,
Thanks for the reply.
1. if i create a single application with two different Deployment type, that is two different command line, which requirement rules i can use to differentiate them, because there is no logical separation for these command lines.
i.e. DT1. Office with Access and DT2. Office without Access.
this separation is done only for the license and is it possible to create a requirement in a way that only if this specific device in a specific collection user "With Access" or "Without Access"
2. Yes, CM12 is smart enough to save disk space with content library, but that smartness is missing while transferring the content to DP, which mean increase in Bandwidth utilization.
3. Great, i was not aware that Classic Packages can be published to Software Catalog.
Thanks Again,
SithaYuvaraj. -
SCCM 2012 Distribution Point Priority
Hello
When two distribution points are assigned to a boundary group and the connection speeds are assigned as "Fast" and "Slow", will the clients within that boundary group always attempt to download from the fast one first if it is available?
Regards,
MarkCorrect. You should also be able to see in the client log files that it, the site system with the "Slow" connection, will be treated as a "remote" distribution point.

I check cas.log and datatransferservices.log and execmgr.log........as the package is sucessfully downloaded to DPs, which i matched with source folder and DP smspkgZ$ package size is same but , i am having doubt that
package is downloading in client which you can check in cas.log with package ID C000121C entry
but when im checking execmgr.log it show it is waiting for this particular package content
but i hecked the dataTransferservices.log it shows every folder of package is downloaded.
now is it possible that client computer is not abale to download complete package from dp to client computer
will program run from DP work in this scenario ,because in our environment we are only downloading from DP then running the program setting is used.
thanks in advance. -
SCCM 2012 Distribution Point not working properly on a Windows 2012 Server
I have an SCCM SP1 site running on a Server 2008 R2 machine. I had a couple of distribution points, also running on 2008 machines. These served as DPs and PXE boot points. I had no problems with these.
I resently added a Server 2012 machine, and set it up as a DP, with a PXE boot point. The servers is part of a boundary group containing about 1500 clients. I distributed all of packages that are included in my main task sequence, and am able
to PXE boot, and image machines successfully.
However, I am having problems deploying other packages and Windows update packages from this DP. It seems like I am only able to deploy packages that have the "Copy the content in the package to a package share on distribution points" enabled.
If this is not enabled, the client will get the deployment policy, but will never download the package. The "In Progress" tab for the deployment status will just say "Waiting for content".
I have checked the rereqs for IIS on the Server 2012 DP, also checked the firewall. Everything that I see seems to be OK. Are there other things that I can check to determine why this DP isn't working right?Hello,
According to the following description, this behavior would be normal:
If you configured the option Run program from distribution point on the
Distribution Points page of the Deploy Software Wizard, do not clear the option
Copy the content in this package to a package share on distribution points, because this will make the package unavailable to run from distribution points.
