    an equivilant for 2012 R2.
    Thanks for the help

    Hi,
To add to that the ports for PXE is missing as well if you are going to use it. Have a look at this great excel spreadsheet where you can add a servername a roles in excel and it will give you what ports needs to be opened.. great help.

  • SCDPM 2012 - backups are running dead slow

SCDPM 2012 - backups are running dead slow.
Below is the details of software and hardware.
    Server OS : WIndows Server 2008 R2
    DPM version : SCDPM 2012 , Version : 4.0.1920.0
    Server Hardware : Prolinet BL 460C G1
Tape drive - LTO 4 drives
    Network : HP NC325m PCIe Quad Port Adapter , driver version 16.1.0.1 ( 10/16/2013 )
Could you please help me to resolve this issue. Thanks
    Raghavendra Bhat

we've got a Windows Server 2008 R2 server that has been running DPM v4.0.1920.0 since it was released in
    10/18/2012.
    we are using D2D2T
We did have tape throughput performance issues initially, but after switching to the in-box LTO tape-drive drivers included with the operating system (instead on HP drivers), and setting several registry values associated with tape ports, we got it working.
     see http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/3cda9c6a-688d-4c2d-8dc0-9d04b8ea1f05/dpm-2012-not-filling-lto3-tapes?forum=dpmtapebackuprecovery
The best advice to speed up the D2D part of the backup is to configure any antivirus software if present to not perform any real-time scanning made by the DPMRA.EXE and DRSR.EXE executables.
Don't backup the system drive of the DPM server to tape, because there are as many junctions as you have protected volumes define, which makes the backup not work at all.
Also, for the system being backed up D2D,

  • New SCDPM 2012 Deployment Scenario and tape Library Sharing.

    Folks
I am having one SCDPM 2012 SP1 on Server 2008 R2 with one tape library. I am going to build another second DPM on Server 2012 and I want to share the same library which is on first DPM.
Before I build second DPM server I want to make some doubts clear so it does't create issues later.
    Both DPM will be physical.
I am reading technet link to share tape ibrary : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh758124.aspx
    And My queries are:
    1) The tape library must be in a storage area network (SAN) environment.
     >The tape Hewlett Packard LTO Ultrium-5 drive I have is attched to first DPM server through SCSI array.Dont know if it is SAN supported.
    2) We recommend that the system configuration of the library server computer and all library client computers be as similar as possible, and that you do not configure any protection groups on the library server.
       >As I have attached library to my first DPM server which is having 22 Protection groups with 562 datasources. Can it be promoted as a Library server? If not then what is solution for this.
3)All DPM servers using a shared library must use a similar SQL Server setup for hosting DPM databases. You cannot have some DPM servers using local instance and others using a remote instance.
       >My first DPM is hosting its Database on its own (local) So should I setup SQL on second DPM localy?
4)SQL accounts should be DOMAIN accounts? On the technet link it is showing SQL failover cluster, where does it require? As image showing it is required between library clients but I will have one library server and one library client, will I needed SQL CLuster?
This was related to Tape, now other queries I have if second DPM and tape sharing deployed successfully.
    1) First DPM has reached LDM records occupancy 79% and I have identified non-colocated datasources/Protection groups which are occupying larger amount of LDM. I will move/recreate these protected groups on 2nd DPM with COLOCATION so they cant use much LDMs.
a)Should I stop protection on 1st DPM and add these protection groups on 2nd DPM. Will it allow me to add since Inactive replica there would be on 1st DPM for 30days
       b) Or should I Migrate these PGs?
       c) What is best practice for this?

Figured it out.  Since I'm on a preconfigured RDS server, the RDS Session Host role is already installed.  So technically Session-based desktop deployment is already set up.  It's the difference between the session host role and the Virtualization
Host roles...slightly confusing when you walk into the middle of the deployment.
It would also explain my second part of the question since the session host role is installed....

  • Error while opening SCDPM 2012 r2 console

    Hi,
on a new SCDPM 2012 R2 UR3 console only the user that performed the installation is able to open the console. All other users are not able to. Those other users are members of local admin group and some also sysadmin on DPM instance of SQL Server.
Error message appearing: Error ID 948 Unable to connect to <DPM Server>. I checked that all DPM Services are running and that I am able to start the Manual ones. No errors there. I also checked if there are sync Job open, nothing there.
The only other message I found is a "Information" message in application log - Source: <MSSQLInstance> –Event ID 18456 –Information: Category Login;  Keywords: Classic, Audit Failure
Login failed for users XXX. Reason: Could not find a login matching the name provided.        It seems to me that there is a permission problem here. I found a similar entry for SCOM. There the problem was that a Domain account
was used but it was treated as a SQL account (no Domain transfered) against the SQL DB. I am assuming that something like that happens here but I have no idea how to move on. I am not sure what credentials are used against the SCDPM-DB when a user tries to
log on. Maybe I am going in a wrong direction? Does someone have an idea?

    Hi Sroe,
they are many causes for a 18456 Event. Can you post the Event Details here?

  • What are the ports required for the Audio, Video and A/V conferencing when the following end points are enabled for QoS in Lync 2013 server?

    Hi All,
What are the ports required for the Audio, Video and A/V conferencing when the following clients are enabled for QoS in Lync 2013 server?
    Client Type
Port range  and Protocol required for Audio
Port range and Protocol required for
    Video
Port range and Protocol required for
    A/Vconferencing
    Windows Desktop   Client
    Windows mobile App
    Iphone
    Ipad
    Andriod phone
    Andriod Tablet
    MAC desktop client
    Please advise. Many Thanks.

Out of the box, 1024-65535 for all of the client ports.  :)
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398833.aspx
You'll want to tune your client ports a bit
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204760.aspx as seen here, and then the client ports would use those ranges which is easier to set QoS markings.  I'm not sure the mobile clients respect that setting.
Elan's got the best writeup for Windows clients here:
    http://www.shudnow.net/2013/02/16/enabling-qos-for-lync-server-2013-and-various-clients-part-1/
However, the marking of the packets is the tricky part.  Windows can do it via Group Policy, but for the other clients you'll need to have the network specifically prioritize ports regardless of DSCP markings.  You have to do it based on ports
as the traffic could be peer to peer.

  • Reporting services for SCDPM 2012 R2

    Hi all,
We are planning to implement SCDPM 2012 R2 with Chained protection concept (DPM1 is the primary and DPM2 is the secondary), here my question is it possible to host both (two) SQL reporting services in same instance ?
    Thanks,
    Sengottuvel M

    Hi,
What's new in System Center 2012 - DPM
Starting with DPM 2012 we added support for multiple DPM servers to share one instance of SQL Server for DPMDB.  This also means that they will share the same SQL reporting.  You should not use that shared instance for any other purpose.

    Hi Everyone,
What are the exact ports which are required to be opened between the client machines and the Report Server so that users are able to use the Reporting Studio. (I guess opening port 8200 only will not suffice, will it?)

  • Restore Online Backup in SCDPM 2012 R2

    Dear all,
    i have a question on SCDPM 2012 R2 + Azure Backup.
i had deployed such solution and disk backup are perfect! However, i had configured online backup policy to Azure Backup since February and i noticed i do not have the options to allow me to perform online restore!
Below is my online protection policy:
i believe i configured it correct to adhere below policy:
    - perform a monthly backup and keep for ONE year
    - perform a yearly backup and keep for SEVEN years
but when i go to recovery tab, it just doesnt show February backup, nor March 2nd have any backup. all the backup available are disk short term of 30 days.

    Hi DeVaLiaN,
    Thanks for posting here!
Each DPM backup to Azure Backup is a recovery point. With an Azure current limit of 366 recovery points your retention time for all backups shouldn’t exceed the 366 limit. In other words the retention times you set for you daily + weekly + monthly
+ yearly backups should sum up to 366 or less.
You might want to double check your configuration.
Refer to the below listed articles which might help you narrow down the issue.

For the default instance no. Your SQL server is on another server? No _ in the name of the server?
Do you mount the ISO or extract it and launch the setup?
Ensure that the DPM ISO is not corrupted. I had a similar problem one time, I downloaded the ISO again and it works fine.

    Hello Everyone,
Can we Install SCDPM 2012 R2 in High Availblity Mode?
If yes What's the Design for SCDPM high availibility?
    Thnks.......
    Hi,
There is not a High Availability solution for DPM such as clustering DPM servers. The options you do have are
Primary and Secondary DPM servers, DPM chaining, or
Cyclic protection. Here is a breakdown of each:
Primary to secondary protection: The database and replicas stored on a primary DPM server can be backed up to a secondary DPM server. If the primary server fails the secondary server continues to back up protected workloads.
For more on Primary to secondary protection:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj244598.aspx
DPM chaining: A chain of DPM servers provide protection, and each server protects the next one in in the chain. For example:
DPM1 is protected by DPM2 (DPM1 is the primary and DPM2 is the secondary).
DPM2 is protected by DPM3 (DPM2 is the primary and DPM3 is the secondary)
    To setup chaining:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh758194.aspx
Cyclic protection: One DPM server is backed up by another DPM server, and vice versa. So that DPM1 protects DPM2, and likewise DPM2 protects DPM1.
    More on Cyclic protection:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj244597.aspx#BKMK_Cyclic
I hope this adds some clarification around this.
